11. A NEW HOME

2016 | AVENGERS COMPOUND — After the girl had got ready with Natasha's help, the Black Widow decided to continue showing her around her new home. Natasha didn't know why, but strangely enough, the girl reminded her of a friend she once had...

The two continued down the long hallway and in the direction of the huge living room, where a delicious smell was already spreading from the kitchen. When the girl saw the living room, her eyes widened as she stared curiously around. It looked quite big and made an extremely cozy impression. But in her mind everything looked better than her old Hydra cell.

Natasha then led the girl into the kitchen, where she was allowed to meet the very first Avengers member. A girl with long brown hair and dark clothes was standing next to the stove and was just cooking something for tonight. Without magic, of course. She apparently heard the two of them coming and slowly turned around.

"Oh, hey." Greeted the brunette girl and stood in front of them. She stretched out her hand to the girl and gave her a  soft smile. "I'm Wanda." She said with a thick Sokovian accent. But just as the girl was reaching for Wanda's hand, a tiny tear rolled down Wanda's cheek shortly afterwards.

The girl noticed this and quickly pulled her hand away from her, fearing it was her fault. The girl looked over at Natasha out of guilt and hoped she had an explanation.  Siren must have thought that Wanda would hate her.

"I'm sorry." Wanda apologized, however, and quickly wiped the tear away while she looked at the girl with a sympathetic look. The curious Maximoff witch had tried to read the girl's feelings and was deeply saddened by what she saw. She could feel her pain, her feelings of guilt, her fear ... her loneliness. "It's- It's nice that you are with us. I promise you, with us you are safe."

"Everything is okay. Don't worry about Wanda." Natasha said, trying to reassure the girl that she had done nothing wrong. "Umm ... she owns the room next to yours. "  Natasha tried to remind the girl to distract from Wanda. "She also wanted to cook for us today. You're gonna love her food. "She praised Wanda.

"You both look really hungry." Laughed the masterchef, trying to quickly cover up her sadness as she watched Natasha and the girl staring hungrily at the food that was sitting in the pots and pans. "The meal will be ready in just an hour."

"Peanut butter sandwiches only take a minute." Natasha pouted impatiently. The girl looked at her again, confused, not knowing what peanut butter was. "It's really delicious, we'll make some later." Wanda was still listening to them, remembering her own time at Hydra. She was given little to eat there and often starved.  Wanda knew that the other girl probably felt the same way and hoped she could make her a little happy with her meal today.

"How long had you been there?" Wanda wanted to resist the question, but she had to know. "Wan-" began Natasha, wanting to keep the girl from feeling even more uncomfortable. "Excuse me ..." She apologized and looked away briefly. "I was at Hydra back then, too."

She told and finally got the girl's attention.  "I- I always had a certain image of myself.  But after this thing. "Wanda raised her hand from which little scarlet sparks were now glowing." Am I something else. I think I'm still me but ..." She paused.

The girl listened sympathetically to Wanda and understood how she felt. Yet she was also amazed at her powers.  "That's not what everyone else sees." The girl finished her sentence and looked at her hands herself. After Siren had finished she cleared her throat and wished deeply to be able to speak again without pain. "Exactly."  Wanda agreed and gave the girl a sad smile.

Natasha decided not to keep Wanda from cooking any longer and pulled the other redhead with her and continued the tour.  As soon as the two were almost finished, the two stood again in the middle of the living room and were slowly greeted by the other residents of the compound who were present today.

The first to arrive was Thor, who introduced himself to his new roommate in a very friendly manner.  "Welcome, M'lady. My name is Thor Odinson, I am delighted to make your acquaintance." He held out his very large hand in a friendly manner, which she slowly took and only then noticed how strong it was when he shook it. „Lady Natasha already told us a lot about you."

Natasha continued from then on, since Siren couldn't talk a lot and continued to explain to Thor about the girl and every now and then she tried to answer as well. Thor was extremely understanding and by no means was rude to her, which gave the girl some courage to get to know the other Avengers.

The next ones to show up were Tony, Sam, Bucky and Steve. And Steve in particular couldn't wait to get to know his savior. The four strolled down the hall until Tony saw a strange redhead standing in the living room and knew completely well that this must be the mysterious girl, everybody wanted to get to know better. "Ahhh there's our little Ariel." He exclaimed happily, which made Natasha, Thor and the girl turn around.

"Ariel?" Asked Steve, who was apparently just as confused as the girl, as she looked over to Natasha with her big blue eyes searching for an answer. "The Little mermaid." Explained Natasha, the girl and Steve.

"It's a movie, Rogers." Tony began, rolling his eyes because he thought Steve had a lot of catching up to do. Tony moved over to the girl and held out his hand to her with a warm smile. "Tony Stark. Nice to finally meet you." Tony kept talking to the girl until he finally gave Steve the chance to thank her.

The girl looked over from Tony and recognized the captain immediately, whereupon a small smile appeared on her face. She looked up at him and remembered him very well.  Whether Steve wanted to admit it or not, something also prevented him from forgetting his brave savior...

"Captain." The girl smiled, her voice almost only a whisper. This made the captain's deep blue eyes shine a little. He was surprised that she remembered him, which made his heart race a little faster. "Steve." He corrected and held out his hand, which she carefully took and shook. Steve felt her hand and felt an inexplicable sensation when she touched it.  A tingling sensation ... warmth.  "Thanks again for saving me. I hope I can return the favor at some point."

Steve helped the girl into her freedom. That was the least she could've done. Without him, she would probably still be in the clutches of Hydra. "You saved me first." She blushed a little and smiled, but suddenly felt great pain after she finished her sentence. She let go of his hand and turned away from him to cough a little. Natasha, who was standing next to her, noticed that she felt worse again because of speaking and put a hand around her arm.

"It's okay, you don't have to talk that much." Nat reassured her, trying to remind her. "We know it hurts you." Steve noticed this and felt sorry for the girl, she didn't deserve to suffer like that. Hydra had already taken so much from him and the others and he hated them for it.

Steve stepped aside so that the next one could introduce himself to the girl. The girl turned around and was now standing in front of a familiar face. "James?" She asked with a surprised, sad look and finally moved her hand to her mouth. She couldn't believe that he was standing there in front of her again. She immediately pulled him into a hug but Bucky just stood there confused and didn't recognize her at all ...

"You know each other?" Asked several voices confused and surprised. The girl let go of him.

"Friend." The girl smiled and hoped she understood what she meant. It was true, the Winter Soldier and the Siren knew each other. They were sent on missions together. Often, however, Bucky was also standing in front of the girl's cell and had to guard it or listening to orders from the Hydra agents. In fact, when no one was listening, the two of them often talked to each other.

In Siren's Hydra days, the Winter Soldier was the only one who didn't treat her badly. They were both the puppets of Hydra and shared their suffering. But Siren and the Winter Soldier were never enemies ... Hydra ordered her soldier to keep their Siren safe.

The other Avengers understood what the girl meant, but they didn't know why only one of the two remembered.  However, Steve suspected that it had to be the memory erasing machines. The girl was extremely happy to see her old friend outside of Hydra. It reminded her of something she had promised him back then.

"You are a good man, James. We'll get it out of here together someday. I promise you." She said and leaned against the bars of the silver cell door. The soldier only gave the siren a sad smile and unfortunately lost more and more of his hope of freedom.

Bucky tried to remember it in vain, but it didn't work. The doctors had just played too much with his memory, completely destroyed it.

Sam was the last to introduce himself, after all. She thought he looked really chilled and funny. That was all for today and now the girl tried to remember all the faces. Inwardly, somewhere, the girl gasped with relief, as she found that everyone seemed very friendly and although they knew their past no one was prejudiced ...

The girl felt something that she had thought for a long time she would never be able to feel again.

She felt free.
