Thirty-eight
Day XIV of the internship; 25th October:
"So, what is everyone's plans for today?" Nate asked at the breakfast table.
"Well," Coco began, "it's Adalyn's last day today, so me, Ruel and her are going out for the evening."
"That's great." Nate said. "And Adalyn when is your flight tomorrow?"
"It's at 1.30 pm." She replied. "I need to be at the airport till 12.00 noon."
"Okay."
"Nate," Ruel began, "for how long are we in London?"
"All of us will be going back to Sydney on 28th of October. We have some important work to do here. After that all of us will go back."
"Adalyn dear you'll be fine going back to Adelaide alone right?" Kate asked. Adalyn was going back alone, as Michelle and the rest of the team had to be in London for the work Nate mentioned.
"Yes I'll be fine." Adalyn smiled. "I know what all is to be done at the airport. So, I think it will be alright."
"Okay. If you face any sort of problem while checking in or anything, you can call any one of us."
"Thank you."
"I'll miss you so much." Coco said.
"I will miss you too. And don't forget, I'm coming to Sydney soon."
"I personally can't wait for that." Michelle piped in the conversation.
"Me neither. I'm excited to meet Lorelai though." Coco said.
"Yes I can't wait for you both to meet. You'll like her. She's wild, like you." Adalyn chuckled.
"I already love her." Coco chuckled along with Adalyn, her newfound best friend.

Current time: 4.30 pm
"Adalyn come on get ready." Coco groaned.
"Coco, the date is at 7.00 pm. Why should I start getting ready," she switched on her phone to check the time, "2 and a half hours ago?"
"It's your first official date!"
"That doesn't mean I should spend more than 2 hours to get ready." Adalyn reasoned. "I have to wear clothes, brush my hair and do some light makeup. How much time is that going to take? No more than 30 to 45 minutes. I'll start getting ready at 6.00 pm."
"But," Coco groaned again, "I wanted to straighten your hair."
"Why?" Adalyn asked with a distorted face, as she knitted her eyebrows together.
"They'll look nice. I'm not saying your hair isn't beautiful; they are extremely beautiful. You can do something new for the date."
"No."
"Please?"
"No."
"Come on."
Adalyn sighed. "Fine."
"Yay!" Coco got up from the bed and pulled Adalyn off the bed. She made her sit on the chair and brought out her hair straightener. She began to straighten them. Adalyn's hair is long, so it took an hour to straighten her hair.
"And done." Coco said as she kept the straightener aside and switched it off. Adalyn got up from the chair and looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her hair was perfectly straightened, no messed up hair in sight.
"Wow!" She exclaimed. "It looks amazing! Thanks Co."
"You're welcome. Now, what are you planning to wear?"
"My flannel with ripped jeans." Adalyn said proudly. Coco looked at her with a disgusted expression.
"What?" Adalyn asked.
"Flannel and ripped jeans for your first date? That's low. Wear a dress. Ooh, where the black one which you bought few days ago."
"Really?" Adalyn asked, unconvinced.
"Yes!" Coco exclaimed. "You look beautiful in that."
"Fine." Adalyn took the dress from the closet in their room and went in the washroom to change. She came out within minutes, wearing the dress and looking beautiful.
"Wow! You're just- wow." Coco said, as she struggled to form her words properly.
"Thanks." Adalyn smiled.
"And now your shoes. What do you want to wear?"
"My conv-"
"No! No converse!" Coco sighed as she looked at her own pairs of shoes. "Wear this." She said, as she held a pair of sandals.
"I- fine." Adalyn gave in, as she knew Coco will make her wear those sandals, no matter what.
"And now I will do your make up." Adalyn sat down and Coco did her magic on her. It was 6.55 pm now, and both of them were ready. Adalyn for her date and Coco to visit Eva. At exact 7.00 pm, there was a knock at the door. Knowing who it was, Adalyn's heart began to thump loudly.
"Don't worry." Coco said softly as she got up to open the door.
"Hey Ruel."
"Hey Coco. Is Adalyn ready?"
"Yup." Coco said as Adalyn got up from the chair she was sitting on and walked up to Coco and Ruel.
"Hi Ruel." Adalyn said.
"Hi Adalyn." Ruel smiled. "You look beautiful."
"Thanks." Adalyn smiled as she began to blush, just like Ruel.
Adalyn noticed that Ruel had a guitar slung on his shoulder.
"Why do you have your guitar?" She questioned.
"It's a surprise." He said.
"Okay lovebirds let's go." Coco said as the three walked out and went down to their already booked Uber. They sat inside, with Adalyn in between Ruel and Coco. They reached the first destination soon, Eva's home.
"Okay guys have fun." Coco said as she got out of the car and waved them goodbye.
"You too. Bye." Adalyn said.
"Bye." She said for the last time as she closed the door of the car and walked towards Eva's house.
"Where are we going?" Adalyn asked Ruel.
"You'll see." Ruel winked, making her chuckle as the driver began to drive again.
As the car began to move, Ruel slowly moved his hand towards her own. He intertwined his hand with hers, and she gladly let him.
"We're here." Ruel said after 10 minutes of drive. They both got out of the car and paid the driver. Adalyn turned around to see a very aesthetic looking café.
"I know how much you love such cafés." Ruel smiled as both of them walked inside, hand in hand. They both sat at a table next to a window. A waiter came to take their order.
"Adalyn what will you like to eat?" Ruel asked.
She thought for 5 seconds before replying. "Chicken wrap along with hot mocha and a chocolate lava cake for dessert."
"Okay. And I would like creamy pasta with chicken with a cappuccino and a chocolate lava cake for dessert." Ruel said as the waiter noted their orders. After noting, he went back to the counter.
"Thank you Ruel, for bringing me to this amazing café." Adalyn smiled.
"You don't have to say thank you. It's your last day, so I wanted to spend some good time with you." Ruel smiled back.
"I'll miss London a lot. And you and Coco and Michelle and everyone else. I had so much fun here."
"I'll miss you too. Having you around was amazing and I can't wait for when you come to Sydney."
"Me neither. Sydney seems like such an amazing place. And to get a chance to study there with my best friend is just awesome."
"There is so much I want to show you. The beach, the cafés I visit there and my home. Oh, and I can't wait for you to meet my friends. You'll love them so much."
"I would love to meet them too."
"And the best part," Ruel said as he held her hand in his own, "you'll be mine." He said as both of them began to blush beet red.
The same waiter came with their food. They both moved their hands back as he kept their food on the table. Both of them began to eat, as they continued to talk more and more.
Their relationship, it was something unique. How 2 weeks ago she had no idea who he was, and how now she is in love with him. They felt comfortable around each other. Like they could talk about what bothered them without feeling any sort of distrust among themselves. Their hands in each others felt just right. They both hugging each other felt just right. And they both kissing each other felt just right.
"I'll pay."
"No. I will."
"Oh come on Ruel."
"Nope."
Before Adalyn could interject, Ruel swiped his credit card in the machine.
"I've paid now. Let's go." He took her hand again and walked out of the café.
"I don't like how you paid." Adalyn pouted.
"It's alright now Addie. Leave it. Wanna go to the park?" Ruel asked.
The park had become an important place now. It's the place where they held hands for the first time, it's where they kissed for the first time, it's where they kissed for the second time and it's where they both had their first fight, when Adalyn ran away.
"Yes! I feel like it's such an important place now."
"Yup, it is."
Within a few minutes, they reached the park and laid down at their usual spot, looking at the night sky, holding hands. They didn't talk, they just savored the joy of the other person's company.
"Adalyn," Ruel said softly as he sat up, making her sit too.
"Yeah?" Adalyn asked, as she sat up while brushing off the grass off her dress.
"I wrote a song for you." He said. "Will you like to listen to it?" He asked nervously.
"Of course!" Ruel pulled out the guitar from his case and positioned it according to himself. He strummed a few chords and then began to sing.
You said we'd just drop by but
I wasn't invited
You'd already decided
That I was coming too
I can't stand all these people
All trying to please you
They don't even see you
The way I do
2 am, haven't left
No one cares
Just me I guess
But I can't leave you
I wasn't gonna say nothing
But I'm about to break something
How you gonna take all of my time?
You know that I hate this place
But if you wanna stay I do too
We'll let the night turn to day
Yeah, I'm down either way
'Cause I'm so down for you
Yeah, I can't find the patience
For all the conversations
And all of these blank faces
I should leave, I haven't yet
But when you smile I just forget
But I can stay a while I guess
I wasn't gonna say nothing
But I'm about to break something
How you gonna take all of my time?
You know that I hate this place
But if you wanna stay I do too
We'll let the night turn to day
Yeah, I'm down either way
'Cause I'm so down for you
You know that I hate this place
But if you wanna stay I do too
We'll let the night turn to day
Yeah, I'm down either way
'Cause I'm so down for you
You know that I hate this place
But if you wanna stay I do too
We'll let the night turn to day
Yeah, I'm down either way
'Cause I'm so down for you
I'm so down for you
So down for you
For you
I'm so down for you
So down for you
For you
He stopped playing the guitar and looked at Adalyn.
"It was- it was beautiful." She said. "I love it so much."
"Thank you Addie."
"Really, it was amazing." Adalyn complimented as Ruel kept the guitar aside. He didn't say anything; he pulled out a box. He opened to reveal a charm bracelet in it.
"Ruel-" Adalyn said, completely taken aback by the beautiful bracelet. Ruel took her right hand softly and put the bracelet on it.
"It's beautiful." Adalyn whispered.
"The infinity symbol symbolizes the never ending love we have for each other." Ruel said.
"But I didn't get you anything."
"You didn't have to. You're coming to Sydney, and that's the biggest gift you can give to me."
Adalyn didn't say anything, she pressed her lips against his. He kissed her back, with her arms around his neck and his around her waist. Adalyn pulled away and leaned her forehead against his.
"I love you Ruel."
"I love you too Adalyn."

The day after the internship; 26th October:
Current time: 11.30 am
"Give me my jacket please."
"Here you go."
"And my cardigan."
"Yup here it is."
"And my flannel."
"Yeah."
"And done." Adalyn closed the zip of her suitcase and rolled it out to the entrance of their room.
"Here's your handbag." Coco handed it to her.
"My phone, camera, wallet, toothbrush, passport. Yup, I have everything." Adalyn said as she checked her handbag for one last time.
"Okay. Let me bring my phone." Coco went inside the room at picked up her phone. She came back at the door where Adalyn was standing to see her looking around the room.
"I'm gonna miss you." Adalyn said.
"Me too Addie." Coco smiled. "But we're meeting soon!"
"Yup." Adalyn smiled.
"Let's go." Coco said as she got out of the room along with Adalyn and locked the door. They both went downstairs to the reception together for one last time. Everyone was standing there, waiting for them.
"Have you packed everything?" Michelle asked.
"Yes." Adalyn nodded.
"Great. You can keep the suitcase in the trunk of the van."
"Okay."
"I'll help you." Joel said as both of them went out to the van and kept Adalyn's suitcase in the trunk. Everyone else came out and sat in the van, moving to the airport.
The mood in the van wasn't sad, it was enthusiastic. Even though Adalyn was leaving, they all were excited to see her again when she comes to Sydney with Lorelai. Everyone was chatting in the van, discussing some of the best memories of the internship. At exact 12.00 noon, they all reached the airport. Everyone got out and Joel helped Adalyn with her suitcase.
"I had so much fun here with all of you. I can't wait to come to Sydney." Adalyn said.
"We'll miss you." Nate said as he hugged her.
"I'll miss you too." Adalyn said, hugging him back.
"See you soon Addie." Joel hugged her.
"You too Joel."
"Can't wait for you to come to Sydney." Jack said as he hugged her.
"Me either."
"Have a safe flight Adalyn." Beau said with a hug.
"Thank you Beau."
"Girl I'll miss you so much!!" Chelsea said as she gave her a tight hug.
"I'll miss you too Chelsea."
"Adalyn you are amazing. Stay the same." Kate said as she gave her a hug.
"Thank you Kate."
"Adalyn take care dear. I'll miss you so much! You have been a wondrous intern." Michelle said, hugging her.
"And you've been an amazing teacher Michelle. I'm definitely going home as a better photographer."
"Addie my literal other half. Take care bubs." Coco said as she hugged her and swayed the both of them side to side.
"You too Coco."
"Bye Adalyn. You're an amazing photographer and I can't wait for you to come to Sydney." Ruel said as he hugged her.
"I can't wait to come to Sydney." She hugged him back. "And I'll be all yours when I come." She whispered, making him smile.
"I love you Addie."
"I love you too Ruel."
They both said to each other, before Adalyn went towards the entrance of the airport.
"Bye guys! See ya soon!" She exclaimed waving her hands.
"Bye!" Everyone exclaimed back at her, giving her flying kisses and waves.
With that she walked inside the airport, her figure going far and far by every second.
