For many generations, the Quileute Tribe had been faced with deciding to be the hunter or the hunted.

The cold ones, they were called.

The group of bloodsuckers that took over their land and strives for death and chaos of their families. Gatherers, leaders, mothers, children. Slaughtered before their families eyes. Sobs and screams ran through the land, as blood seeped into the ground below. One of their own calling upon the power of those before, transformed into a wolf— powerful enough to stop more bloodshed, but it did not come without a cost.

For years, the Clearwaters and their close families maintained to stick to their land if the cold ones stuck to theirs. No drama, no death, no hunting on different grounds. Yet, like always, Jacob Black tended to bite more off than he could chew.

She watched her best friend choose a human over his own. Risks of betraying generations of trust rushed to the present as he found himself drawn to the girl who, herself, was drawn to a man of the same species that almost ended their tribe. Anger ran through this veins, and she didn't dare bat an eye towards his sudden explosion of feelings.

Hell, they all had some sort of wall towards Bella Swan. She blended herself with the Cullen and Hale family so tightly. Vampires and Werewolves, with a human caught between. Selfish, maybe. Hera didn't understand it. She'd never been in love before, certainly not to the extent she's seen Jacob and Bella put themselves through.

Hera wouldn't be caught dead without Jacob Black by her side through all this. Through her own transformation, though wouldn't come until a redhead cold one decided to go on a hunting rampage, she would stick by Jacob's side through it all. Call it loyalty or stupidity, if you will. But dare she say she started to understand why Bella did it. Why she put herself through hell for the sake of love. She never asked for it, why would she? But it was there, and there was no denying it.

Hera Clearwater understood better than anyone at that point, all when her transformation caused her to imprint on Emmett Cullen, a cold one who would stop at nothing to protect the ones he loves . . . One of the things they find themselves to have in common.
