LONG AGO, nigh upon the Doom of Valyria, under the word of his daughter Daenys, Aenar Targaryen fled his home. The other Valyrians saw this as a desperate plight of cowards, until another dreamer saw the impending fall.

Among the dragonlords was another house, the House Praenomen. These Valyrian mages, along with their dragonriding, were seeped in blood and fire, said to be forged from the depths of Hell itself. Their abilities however blocked them from prophesying for those of their own line, and it would be years after Aenar and his family had left that Maiela Praenomen could finally corroborate Daenys's vision.

Maiela's father, Draelor, now feared it to be too late. He, along with his remaining family, took to the skies in search of safe haven, following the path unknowingly set by Aenar a decade earlier. The Praenomens landed at Dragonstone, met by their fellow dragonlords, and begged for solace. The once terrifying House was now considered weakened as it sought refuge with the Targaryens, unable to find their feet in this new foreign land.

These two Valyrian families, along with the Velaryons, lived in contentment among Westeros for close to a hundred years, until one man would taste a power that intoxicated his blood and stained the land, trickling down his descendants and eventually corrupting his entire line with madness. Aegon Targaryen aimed to seize the seven realms, impervious in his conquering of the land for his own gain. The Velaryon House willingly bent their knee, but the Praenomens could not be swayed as easily. Regardless of this, the Praenomens lay quiet, and continued to live under the watchful eye of the Targaryen King.

Ten years after Aegon's Conquest however, the bloodmages had grown restless, and Vaenyron Praenomen, firstborn son of Draelor's great-grandson Vaelon, sought to challenge Aegon's claim to the throne. He claimed that the Targaryens were the weaker lords, that they relied heavily on their dragons to rise above others, and without their beasts, they would be nothing. Thus began the Call for Blood, with Praenomens landing the first blow upon the Targaryen House.

The war waged for years, as Aegon refused to admit defeat, but he among many knew that the Targaryens and their armies were no match for the magic that Praenomens had harnessed for centuries. Unbeknownst to the people however, an agreement was sought and a treaty formed; the Praenomen family and their followers would flee in silence, and Aegon would remain the Conquerer and rightful King of Westeros. As the Praenomens fled, Aegon's dragon Balerion decimated the land the Prae once occupied, further feeding the lie that the Praenomens were defeated.

The Praenomens and their followers settled in the Northern Isles, on the mountainous land they named Myranis, where the ever-present chill was still no match for the fires within their veins. The people of Westeros knew little of their survival, and now breathed relief that the war that bid dragon against dragon was over.

Aegon and his kingdom had rightly feared the House of Praenomen, and the Isle of Myranis became the stuff of legend. Naught had laid eyes on the Praenomen for near a century, and while some rumours had spread, most believed they no longer existed. Little knew that the House lay in wait, observing and calculating, ready for their hour to strike. For in part due to their prophetic abilities, the House of Praenomen knew that Valyrian blood would be spilt for the throne of Westeros once more.
