"What does this mean?" I asked but he chose to stay silent. His palm was still placed on my thighs but I wasn't thinking about sexual desires. Neither did he have such intentions. I had questions while he knew the answers. His hands travelled upwards, beneath my skirt as if he was trying to feel my skin against his warm palm. "There's something more serious related to this issue, right?"
"This isn't an issue but a solution. An ultimate solution." He said firmly and glanced at me.
"What will this lead to?"
"Peace. This is a part of the prophecies made long back. If things go by the way it is meant to be, our souls will rest in peace. You will have to trust me during this process."
"It's strange. I have always waited for the person with whom I would live forever. And when I have finally found such a person who I find genuine it is so hard to trust."
"I won't lie to you since I have waited for you for all these years. And I feel waiting for all these while was worth it. My only wish is to spend memorable last moments with you before everything turns into ashes." He said as his fingers moved across my skin. I loved the way his every touch blurred up my vision. It was an illegitimate relationship, still it felt perfect. It felt as if the missing pieces of my life were falling into the right place. This heartbreak was enough to shatter my mind, to leave my soul feeling like dust in the wind and my body unwilling to live.
"What's the prophecies?" I asked. He stared at the sky as his lips tugged a bit. "One of the prophecies is that, the day I meet you, my soul mate, that would be the last day of my life."
He took a pause noticing my changing expressions. "But that doesn't mean death."
"Then what does that mean, sir?"
"It's a complex thing which we must not speak about as we have less time left and complete the unfinished job." Unfinished job? He got up from the bench and gestured to me to follow him. We drove to his house, I didn't know what to expect. My powers of questioning seemed to stall when I was with him. I did whatever he asked me to do. He went into his room, while I simply followed him. He took out a pile of papers from the shelf and shove it into my hands.
"All these years, I have written down what I did every single day. Once you leave this mansion, I want you to burn it off before tonight. You aren't allowed to read this. Do as I say, burn it and let each word on these sheets disappear into thin air." I nodded my head in a way of understanding.
"Is this the end of us?" He didn't reply to me, leading us to another round of making love.
I knew by heart, I was in love with this man before me. It's weird and sounds like a fairytale when I say I fell in love with a person in a single day, but that's the truth. After a few hours I left his house after a heartfelt goodbye. The first thing I did was to go to Ubbin Ground. I remember theories of a person killing kids related to this ground due to which parents never let their kids come to play here. I placed the papers on the ground and lit it with a matchstick. I stared at the flames lifted off from the ground towards the sky.
