My mind wandered over everything but the present. I wasn't able to focus on anything. Eliana ma'am instructed me about my job which I was going to join by the weekend. She was a writer by profession and a few of her books were also added to the list of bestsellers of the city. She had left her passion for writing for the past thirteen years for her family. Recently, she had been offered a huge amount from a publishing house for a project and that's when she wished to follow her passion. Her husband was present during this formal meeting but his features weren't like last night. His expressions were not gentle. It seemed as if he had blinded his mind with an invisible rock, prohibiting any emotions. He did not have a great bond with his children while ma'am was too affectionate towards them. He continued to flick through the pages of the magazine while she watched him, his scowl grew ever more pronounced.
Β "What's up?" he said. She shifted near him, resting her palm on his shoulder, placing her lips on his, which he did not resist. I looked away feeling uncomfortable or specifically feeling conflicted. Envy, that's the right word to describe my emotions.Β
"You can join by this weekend, Amana. I will mail you the schedule of your job by tonight." I nodded. It was surely a dream of mine. I thought to myself, as I saw him not interested during the whole conversation. I didn't want to think much about the situation and his presence was surely affecting me.Β
"You can come for a house tour so that you don't get lost on the day your job starts."Β
"But love, I have to meet a few people regarding my work. I will drop the children at my friend's place. Will you be able to show her the house then?" He just shook his head in response. After a few minutes Eliana ma'am left along with her children leaving me and him alone. None of us spoke, I'm nervous or anxious that I just can't face him. "Still not able to overcome what happened yesterday, hmm?"Β
"So, that wasn't a dream?"Β
"A sort of. I waited for you for thirteen years."
"For me? Why?"
He did not reply but continued staring at me. After paying off the bills, we left the restaurant. Instead of taking me to his home for the tour as he had mentioned to his wife, we went to a nearby park. He gestured to me to sit next to him and I did so.Β
"As I said, I have been waiting for you for the past thirteen years. You may have a lot of questions in your mind but I don't have time to answer all of them. You just need to know that our meeting was destined to be."Β
"I knew that since the first day I saw you," I mumbled in a low voice pointing at his half-shadow which was just like mine. "What does this mean?"Β
