"I'm thinking I want this forever like Drake. 'Cause I'm his nurse and he my Dr. Dre."

SAMIR MONTGOMERY
MARCH 21st, 2008.
FRIDAY 4:27 pm

"WELL...THAT WAS awkward." Kamaria broke the silence, sitting in the car with Samir.

He was really being her driver and he enjoyed it, because it gave them more time together, but he swore she was aggravating him out loud.

"How," Samir was curious as to what felt so awkward for her. He was perfectly fine honestly, but of course she would feel different.

"I don't know. Maybe it's 'cause you was there. Or maybe that doctor was just looking at us like 'this lil girl grown as hell.' You know?" Kamaria muttered fiddling with her fingers.

Last weekend, Tamika and Simone had a talk with the two. It was very awkward, but noticing how serious they were getting, they weren't sure if the two were having sex.

"We just wanna talk to you guys for a quick second. Come here." Simone assured them as they left Samirs room, making their way to Tamika's living room.

Kamaria could admit, she was a little worried about what they wanted. Her stomach was churning, but she didn't let that stop her from taking a seat on the opposite couch with Samir right next to her.

"Yeah?" Samir questioned.

"So," Simone started while Tamika side eyed her, bringing her cup to her lips remaining quiet. "We just want to know," she paused once again and kamaria wanted to jump on her mom for purposely building unnecessary anticipation. "Are you two having sex?"

The question made Kamaria's eyes go wide. "Huh?" She questioned before she could even process what she wanted her answer to even be.

Did she want to tell the truth? Did she want to lie? Or did she want to remain quiet like Samir was doing.

Samir didn't like being interrogated, actually he hated it with a passion. So, if they thought they were going to gain answers out of him they were crazy. A person could only know what Samir wanted them to know.

"Well, are y'all?" Tamika questioned widened her eyes from the lack of answers.

Kamaria crossed one of her legs over the other and leaned into Samir as a signal of her silence. She wasn't going to answer that, because truthfully, not answering was still answering. She just didn't want to say it out loud, with their parents.

"Well, okay." Simone muttered, "a better question is are you guys having safe sex. I mean you two are really young still. And both of you have future plans that a baby doesn't include in." Simone continued.

When Samir slouched into his seat clearing his throat and wrapped his arm around Kamaria, they continued.

"Okay, well we brought y'all out here to see what lil bit thinks about trying birth control. Just for precautions when you do decide to have sex if you haven't already." Tamika stepped in, not wanting Simone to think she was alone in all of this.

"I love you boo, so I want you to know we think it's for the best." Tamika continued.

"Would it be something you consider?" Simone looked directly at Kamaria, unsure of what she would answer or how she would feel. "I mean I would prefer condoms, but I was a teen once. I had you and Kyaire young, so I know shit happens." Simone explained her reasoning.

"Okay..." kamaria paused, "doesn't birth control stop your period." She questioned now interested slightly, only because she hated her period so much.

The only reason she hadn't thought about it was because the horror stories of hormones, and weight gain, which her everyday life couldn't really handle at the stage she was in her life.

"The shot does." Simone nodded her head. "You don't have to decide now, just take that into consideration and get back with us on it." Simone nodded her head.

"Well, thank you, and I will." Kamaria responded.

Now, it was the next Friday, and Kamaria had just got her first shot after deciding to go on a three-month trial. If she didn't like the side effects after three months she would opt out on it for further notice.

"She probably was, but so what. Who gives a fuck." Samir shrugged his shoulders, pulling into the driveway of Kamaria's home while whatever you like by T.I played on the radio.

"Dang, k3 back already?" Kamaria was surprised seeing her brothers' car pulled up in the front because he had to go to Riverview after school, for whatever. She had no idea, but he always went so she didn't question it.

Samir shrugged, just as surprised. "Do you feel weird or different?" He questioned in attempt to monitor her. He had no idea how birth control worked.

"Boy, I got the shot a half hour ago. I doubt anything will happen that fast." She giggled, reaching in the back seat in order to collect her things from school.

"I was just wondering damn. You don't need something?" He questioned her, and she shook her head briefly because she was okay for now.

With that, they both took an exit from the car, rounding the front and walking side by side up the porch steps.

"Do you wanna go to cold stone later since we don't have work later and—damn it took y'all ass long enough! I been waiting for hours!" Kamaria was cut off as soon as she stepped through the door.

Kamaria felt so dramatic when her entire jaw dropped, and even Samirs heart dropped at the fight of Zayden. Even after years of not seeing him, he recognized him anywhere.

"You— but you—" Kamaria couldn't even form a sentence as Zayden smiled pulling both Samir and Kamaria into a hug at the same time.

"Where was y'all at?" Zaydens' deep voice chuckled almost catching her off guard. He sounded different from the phone calls they got from him every once in a while.

Both of them didn't answer, because zayden was behind on a lot so that would catch him off guard to just tell him she was getting put on birth control.

"I'm still stuck on how nigga said he been waiting for hours, and we pulled up ten minutes ago." Kyaire spoke sitting on the couch with a bag of ruffles.

"Nigga shut up nobody asked you." Zayden pulled back, but Samir pulled him closer again trying not to get emotional. It had been a long four years.

He didn't even get to see him when he got out, because he had got locked up a month before Samirs release date, so finally after years, they had reunited again.

"I missed y'all ass too man, y'all look so different." He stated once he was finally pulled away and stepped back to view them.

The last time he saw Kamaria it was last year, and she was freshly 15, and the last time he saw Samir, they were 14 in the eighth grade, now both Samir and Kyaire were seniors and 18.

Zayden didn't know if he was going to finish school. If he would, he would have to do a whole year because he missed one semester, and half of the second, but he didn't want to think about that now.

He needed sleep.

"You do too, I feel like you got taller or something. You up there with Samir." Kamaria bent over grabbing her backpack from the floor since she dropped it upon seeing him.

"I been tall, nice try though." He plopped back down, snatching the bag of ruffles from Kyaire since they were his after all.

"Imma go change clothes and be right back." She announced before sauntering off towards the back of her house quickly, and Zayden squinted his eyes with a confused look.

"The fuck she got to change for?" He mumbled out loud, but he was more so speaking to himself. Samir laughed, plopping on the couch next to Kyaire.

"She got this thing where she don't like to keep on the same set of clothes all day. Ion know." Samir shrugged. He never questioned it, because Kamaria was going to be Kamaria. Simple.

"Oh okay," he nodded. "So, where you coming from, y'all was together?" He questioned trying to spark up a conversation, and Samir nodded mindlessly.

Silence took over them since Zayden was kind of waiting for him to speak more, but Samir was just trying to process everything at once. So everyone wasn't moving on each other's pace.

"I give up. Y'all ass ain't gone tell me where y'all was for shit. I don' asked 'bout 3 times." Zayden waved him off, and Samir finally shifted his gaze to his second best friend finding it funny how defensive he was getting. As if he was hurt because they weren't telling him. "Who the fuck keeps secrets." He muttered bitterly looking away.

"I swear you so soft, youn gotta do all dat." Kyaire shook his head smiling too. It was just something about all three of them being in the same place and free again felt so good. They hadn't had this in a long time.

"Shut up nigga, bald headed ass. Why the fuck you go and cut yo hair." He shook his head disappointedly, "mannn, when I tell you I didn't even know this was k3 I looked right over him when he was outside to pick me up." Zayden told Samir.

"Bro, he looks the same just shorter hair." Samir gestured towards Kyaire. Kyaire had gone with a shorter hair style, a taper fade to be exact. He actually looked good too, it wasn't hard to get used to either. He pulled it off very well.

"Yeah, but I never thought this nigga would cut his hair off. He had that good shit." Zayden shrugged his shoulder. Zayden had a nice amount of hair, enough to wear them in his signature cornrows, with a criss cross braid on his left side. He always got them like that too.

Hence why it was his signature look.

Zayden stood at 6'2 so he was kyaires height, and he had a smooth dark brown skin, being just a shade darker than Samir with a few tattoos going down his right arm, his chest, and his neck because he was a tattoo junkie. He was really skinny, just like Samir but it seemed both of them had built slight muscle while away. He had a mouth full of braces and he was attractive in his very own way.

"Me either. When he told me, I was shocked. But the fresh start don't look too bad." Samir agreed with his best friend.

"Okayyy, I'm back." Kamaria sauntered back into the living room with a smirk on her face. Samir already knew she was up to something too. He could read her so well she wanted to slap him for it sometimes. It was an even trade though, because she could read him well too.

"It doesn't take ten minutes to change." He muttered, eyeing her suspiciously.

She rolled her eyes and walked between his legs sitting on his lap. Samir wrapped his left arm around her since she was facing the right.

Zaydens' entire jaw dropped, "hold on! When the fuck that happen?" He finally caught on and felt a little stupid for just now getting it.

"Mannnn," Kyaire just shook his head because the way he was first shocked when he found out about them, his reaction was definitely normal.

"Huh, watchu mean." Samir yawned feeling sleepy.

"Oh I see y'all just like to play dumb." Zayden gave up. It was clear they were together, and he felt so behind now that he knew, so he would have to play catch up. When they allowed him, because clearly they wouldn't say anything.

"How are we playing dumb." Kamaria giggled , she was starting to realize she liked playing with people's emotions and that's exactly what she did.

"I mean...are y'all together—well duh cause Kyaire wouldn't even let no other shit slide. But when? How?" He was confused. He had never known either of them to show interest in each other, but he also knew the last time he seen them together together they were fresh teenagers in middle school.

Kamaria just shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know. We have to spend so much time together something was bound to happen between us I guess." She explained, and Samir found himself nodding letting her be the voice for both of them.

"Damn, that's crazy." Zayden was still in a shocked state, but he couldn't say it was completely surprising. He suspected something from the way Samir acted when Kamaria didn't talk to him after being locked up. He was acting like he was dying.

"Hey hey heyyyy, I'm here and—" Kourtney busted through the door trying to make her normal dramatic entrance, but gasped once she saw Zayden.

Samir twisted his lips to the side realizing that's what took Kamaria so long in the back. She was back there calling Kourtney to come over.

"I was wondering when I was gone see yo ass." Zayden said, in the process of Standing up, and he wasted no time embracing her in a hug even while she was in shock.

Zayden could truly say he wasn't expecting the girl to walk through the door or to see her so soon, but he felt relief in seeing her after so long. "I missed you girl." He stated honestly, kissing her on the cheek and she blushed pushing his face away.

It was like a light bulb went off in Samirs head, and things finally made sense. For a while, he thought Kyaire had a thing for Kourtney, but in reality, he had been looking out for her because Zayden was away, and he couldn't.

Kourtney was trying to hide her giddy state. "I thought you was mad at me." She was trying to pull out of his grasp, but he wouldn't let her. She didn't want him to see she was kind of tearing up from the sight of him.

Kamaria leaned her head into Samir, just watching the two. She watched her best friend try to move on, but she couldn't and always ended up with someone worse than before. It felt good seeing her actually blush and melt again instead of being broken and seen as a dummy when that wasn't who she was.

"I never said that though, I thought you was mad at me." he started then he took a glimpse back noticing everybody was watching the two interact. "Come on." He turned her body around ushering her out the front door onto the porch.

"Oh, boooooo!" Kamaria booed them putting her thumbs down since he was taking away her source of entertainment.

"You be on to some messy shit huh." Samir muttered lowly, kissing her on the lips making her smile.

"Yesss, they are just too cute." Kamaria sighed in admiration.

"Y'all fucking disgusting. I can't watch this shit anymore." Kyaire stood up walking towards the kitchen so he could partake in stress eating.

"He's such a hater." She muttered watching her brother walk away, getting even more comfortable in her boyfriends' lap as if her brothers' outburst didn't mean anything because it didn't.

"Since when did Zay and Kourtney have something going on with each other." Samir asked her curiously, caressing her thigh with his larger palm.

"For years actually." She answered matter of factly, which was news to him. Ever since he had been home, it hadn't been mentioned—actually he had seen Kourtney with someone else who wasn't Zayden.

"They would always do the harmless flirting thing, kind of like us, but you know zayden and Kourtney, so it was way more intense. They started officially dating for six months with no problems but one night they got into a big argument and broke up, and then zayden got arrested the next night so Kourtney called herself trying to move on to prove she didn't need him, or whatever she call it." Kamaria explained, "it was kinda hard seeing her settle for less just to prove a point to him because I knew she could do better. But after dontrell she just gave up completely and hasn't tried again, but i do know they have talked on the phone a few times in the last couple months. And it look like Zayden trynna pick up right where he left off with her too." Kamria smirked almost as if she was proud of him.

Samir took a second to let it all sink in, and after that he was kind of rooting for them too. He'd never thought about them being together until now, but watching how his best friend became putty at the sight of Kourtney told him all he needed to know. "Our group just full of surprises I see." He muttered playfully, tickling her on the side causing her to giggle trying to move away from his body. "Now all we gotta do is get Kyaire a girlfriend."

Kamaria caught her breath, and then sighed loudly. "Oh don't be so gullible, Samir." She used her thumb to caress his soft cheek. "Me and my brother have a lot in common, and he in fact does have a love interest. We're just on his time, and he'll tell us about her when he is good and ready. You know he got rough edges, he gotta see if he really like her before they get serious." She shrugged her shoulders.

Samirs tongue darted out to lick his lips while staring at her in admiration. "You so smart, I really love that shit. Sexy ass." He spoke softly, but she still blushed. That was her second favorite compliment.

"I would hope so," she had to add with a slick eye roll, "I kind of thought you liked bird brains and shit, cause of Cayeton." She coughed the girls name in order to disguise it slightly.

He instantly smacked his teeth, "I never liked that fucking girl. Y'all gone stop trying me, we was just friends." He side eyed her, feeling the shade she was throwing.

"Yeah well no more friends for you , okay? We only surround ourselves around smart people. Don't dumb yourself down for your friends." She playfully pouted, repeating what her mother told her growing up.

"Okay then stop hanging around Kourtney." He shrugged carelessly, but Kamaria gasped in offense.

"No you didn't, my bestfriend is smarter then your ass." She mushed his head and his deep chuckle bellowed from him.

Eventually, Kourtney and zayden came back inside the house and Kourtney looked like she was on cloud nine with zayden by her side and his arm wrapped around her.

"Lil bit you messy as hell, but you be knowing what you doin, I'll give you dat one." Zayden pointed at her with a nod, and all she could do was grin.

"Oh shut up, did you guys make up and kiss or what?" Kamaria came off in a joking way but was actually anxious to know.

"Huh?" Zayden gave her instant karma since they played stupid when he wanted to know about her and Samir, and Kourtney gave her a subtle nod with excitement evident on her voice.

"Why you told her." He mushed her head but she was so happy all she could do was laugh.

Now y'all see why she ain't wit Kyaire? Like chill let me work my magic!
