"Who wants that perfect love story anyway...anyway?"

SAMIR MONTGOMERY
DECEMBER 12th, 2007
WEDNESDAY 5:46 am

"SAMIR!" THE LOUD, repeated, and unexpected calls for him made him jolt out of his sleep.

"Samir!" His father yelled again from the other side of his room door again, twisting the locked door knob once again knocking on his door some more like he had been doing for the past three minutes.

Samir smacked his teeth with a huff since his mind immediately drifted back to last night, and he was now realizing it was a dream, again.

He couldn't lie and act like he wasn't disappointed, only because he thought she had actually reciprocated the feelings he had for her. It seemed like dreaming was the only time he could get peace.

"Huh!" Samir yelled back in a groggy voice still laying on his back in his bed wondering what his dad was doing all that for. His alarm for school hadn't even went off yet.

"Why your door lo—Nevermind. You seen lil bit? Simone and nem don't know where she at, and tameeka said she was wit you last." Aaron spoke through the door.

Hearing that they didn't know where she was, woke him all the way up as he immediately tried to sit up.

His heart skipped a beat when he realized he was being weighed down by another body, and he almost wanted to jump up feeling alarmed before he quickly came to his senses realizing it was indeed kamaria laying next to him with half of her body draped across his.

His lips parted realizing she was wrapped around him securely. Before he could think about it he was lying to his dad, "she probably wit Kourtney. I'll call her in a minute." Samir spoke.

"Alright let me know soon." Aaron said before walking away from his door going into the den to call Simone back. Once his foot steps were far enough he pulled his hand back and tapped on kamarias shoulder.

She didn't even do much as twitch and Samir pursed his lips, tapping her again. "Kamaria, you gotta get up mama." He muttered lowly praying he wasn't too loud.

"Hmm?" She lifted her head up quickly after hearing his voice. His eyes followed her, as her head lifted and they made eye contact knocking all their air out her lungs. Everything from the previous night had came flooding back to her.

When they locked eyes butterflies erupted in her stomach. After lowly clearing her throat she brought her leg from over him and with her body off of him he sat up quickly after.

She had seen this too many times, and she wasn't dumb enough to think he wasn't going to start acting strange towards her and distancing himself after this because of the circumstances they were under.

"Yo mama lookin for you." He informed her, his eyes shifting everywhere in the room never landing on her.

"Aww shit, I forgot to tell her I was staying." She whispered crawling out of his bed, walking to his chair to get her jacket.

He stood aside saying nothing, watching her slide her arms in the sleeves zipping it up. Truthfully, she was trying to get out of his room, and his house as quick as possible to save the embarrassment, it was literally still dark outside.

As she slid her feet in her shoes Samir ran his tongue over his lips, "so...you just finna ignore me?" He tilted his head, and his right eye twitched unintentionally.

She paused lifting her head lookin in his direction,"W-what...?" She trailed off as if she was surprised he was even addressing it. She thought he would act like it never happened.

"What you mean what? Ion know what type of crazy shit you into but you not finna ignore me after last night, if that's what you thinking." He acknowledged.

It had already been established that he wasn't one to hide his feelings, and the only reason he had been doing so was because of the circumstances, but after the night before there was no going back. Everything was out and on the table.

"I just thought that.." she trailed off softly knowing her heart was plummeting against her chest like it was about to pop out.

He looked at her waiting to see what she would say, but when she stayed quiet he continued. "I wasn't saying shit or doing shit to act on my feelings cause of our circumstances and shit, but we crossed the line now and ain't no going back. So you not gonna ignore me or act like the shit ain't happen, and as long as you know dat you can go. We'll talk about it later." He shrugged.

She looked at him a little longer before turning to go to the door. "What are you doing?" He spoke up again, and she swallowed the lump in her throat.

"Slim, you just said to g— you crazy?" He cut her off with furrowed eyebrows.

She was whole heartedly confused about what was going on and what he meant, up until he put his arms out. She deflated trying to bite back her smile as she walked right into them feeling him wrap his arms around her tightly, simply giving her a hug.

He truly didn't know what she was used to, and honestly if they hadn't kissed he could've went without telling her and showing her how he felt, but they did. So now, no matter what the consequences were, he wouldn't hold back.

She didn't expect him to openly admit to having feelings, or even to give her the time of day anymore either, but now she had to go home and think about a lot of stuff. The reaction she was expecting versus the one she got threw her in for a loop.

She had already assumed he would distance himself so she was trying to do the same, only for him to show her how wrong she really was, and she didn't know whether to be happy, or worried.

"You gone be good to go home right now by yourself, cause I can walk wit you if you give me a second." He offered quickly not knowing if he wanted to let her walk alone.

She wasn't exaggerating, they really only lived six houses down from each other , but he still didn't like that. "No I'm good, I gotta go before my mom and brothers kill me." She sighed scratching her head.

"You positive? I can just— Samir. Thank you I appreciate it, but I got it, I promise." She cut him off seeing the glint of worry flicker in him eyes which made her heart warm.

"Aight but call when you done getting in trouble, so I know you at home." He told her, watching her roll her eyes.

"Ion have the number to ya line." She spoke simply.

He smacked his teeth feeling like she was finding excuses after excuses. His eyes shifted around his room quickly, then he reached to the side of him picking up a washable crayola marker, it wasn't a sharpie but it would do.

"Here," he muttered softly bringing her arm up, then he pushed the sleeve of her jacket up, writing down small but big enough to read, capping the marker afterwards. "Now youn got a excuse, don't play wit me." He warned her.

"Okay okay, I gotta go now for real." She told him opening his room door, walking out and he followed her. He knew his dad wouldn't leave from the den, but he would follow her to the door just in case.

Once she left he watched for a little until she got far enough, and figured she would be okay which she would. He didn't want her to walk by herself so bad, but she really needed to get her head together, because she had no idea what last night meant for them.

Granted he made it clear what there wouldn't be, she was still unsure of what they would be. That was enough to have her zoned out for hours thinking of the possibilities.

Samir closed the door locking it back before he shouted, "dad!"

"What! You talked to her?!" He questioned sitting in his recliner watching the sports channel.

"Yeah, she said she finna walk home." He replied already halfway in his room by now, closing the door right after. The way he was feeling, he didn't know if he wanted to go to school.

He locked his door back because his dad had been getting way to comfortable, and he was glad it had became a habit because things could've went up shit creek had it been unlocked ten minutes ago when kamaria was laid up with him.

"Hey momma," Samir sighed as he slid in the passenger side of his mothers car, closing the door.

She smiled putting the car in drive, "hey baby how was your day." She greeted him, driving away from the gas station next to his school that he met her at.

After a long day of school, he had his mother pick him up instead of riding him with Kyaire and kyree since he wanted to talk and catch up with her.

Kamaria didn't go to school, claiming she had a stabbing headache, and no one questioned it because she never missed school.

With that being said, he figured she wouldn't have wanted to study at four like usual and he had no problem with giving her a little space because of their circumstances. He wasn't trying to come on too strong, but if she thought he was going to drop it she was crazy.

That was how he landed with his mother, he wanted to talk to her about kamaria, she always had the best advice in his opinion. He wasn't a mamas boy in his earlier teenage years which was why he originally lived with his dad, but recently he went to her for everything and he missed staying with her because he didn't even talk to his dad. His dad was never even home.

"It was alright, what about you. You did anything? You was off today right?" He questioned her referring to work as he stared at the side of her face carefully examining it.

"I got my sleep in that's all. I'm finna go home, eat and go back to sleep too." She explained because she had been sleeping good all day, her bed felt even better all of a sudden.

"What made you wanna come over after school today." Tameeka questioned as they cruised down the street, the radio coming through the speakers at a low volume that it didn't interfere with their conversation at all.

"Ion know, dad house is just a place I gotta sleep at for probation . I'm never there. And Kyaire still trynna play games but I can tell it's bothering him." Samir laughed at the end.

He actually had no idea how petty his bestfriend could be, and like Kyaire wanted too, he sure did show him.

"You need to tell him sorry," tameeka snickered. Samir smacked his teeth at her suggestion.

"Sorry for what? All I did was hang out with my brother." Samir laughed shaking his head. "I can see why his feelings hurt—we chill every day thats like my twin brother or something , but going a whole week and some days without talkin to me is just overdramatic."

"A little, but he gets it from his parents. And plus it's easier for him to ignore you since he sniffing after some lil girl—and so are you. They taking up yall time." She pointed out.

"You don't know me like that." He stated with a mug on his face, "ian sniffin after no lil girl—what ever that means." He muttered the ending looking out his window.

"Yes you are. Who is she? I mean I thought it was Cayeton but you shut that down when she called and you told me to hang up and stop taking her calls." Tameeka jested trying to get intel.

Samir kept his eyes looking outside the window as if he hadn't heard a word she had just said ignoring her. He had plans on talking to her about kamaria but he didn't know how to go about it. Telling her about kamaria would get her hopes up, and honestly he was loosing faith by the minute the more he thought about it.

He was infatuated by the girl, he really did have genuine feelings for her. It puzzled him, but it also made sense because he could remember crushing in her when they were younger.

Yet, the more he thought about this morning and how she was quick to jump and trying to leave before he could address anything that went on between them had him in a hard place. He didn't want to ignore the signs, but it was right smack in his face.

She had obviously planned to ignore him, and he didn't how to feel about that.

"Nah Cayeton done." He deflected deciding not to bring up his and kamaria situation just yet, until he knew how to approach it.

"What did she even do? You never told me."

Samir huff at the thought of the situation. In some people's eyes he was wrong, but to him he wasn't. No one could say he led her on in his opinion because he had always been straight forward, and it wasn't his fault that she mistook one thing for another even after establishing things.

He hung out with her a handful of times, he barely talked to her, whenever she cried on the phone he calmed her down, but that didn't mean he wanted her. He gave her chance after chance to address what it was she really wanted from him.

He tried not to be harsh on her because for the last six month of his sentence she was a cool person, but he saw that giving her an inch led her to believe she could take a mile. So he didn't understand how telling her that she wasn't his girl was equivalent to earning a deserved slap as some people put it, but it pissed him off that people thought he deserved to get slapped for keeping it real.

He knew it was a lose-lose for him anyway. If he were to tell the truth he would be wrong in everyone's eyes, and if he were to lie and give her empty promises as well he would be wrong. The society didn't know wrong from right in his opinion, they just wanted to victimize Cayeton because she was the female, and since he was the male of the situation he must have did something wrong—or that's how they put it at least.

Still, Samir let it slide because he could tell she was the type to act off of emotions, but it had been almost two months and people at his school who didn't know their situation or Cayeton had still been putting their input in.

Claiming what they would've done if they were her. He was so over it.

"I told her I didn't want to be with her because it was clear she wasn't understanding I was cool with her on a friend level. I never even gave her the hope of us being in relationship—but let any one else tell it I led her on. The most I've even done with her is hug her, not even a kiss." He shrugged.

"I said—and I quote, "it is nobody else because there isn't even a you, we just coolin." And then she slapped me like—she what?!" Tameeka cut him off almost slamming on the breaks.

" yes she slapped me like I had said the most disrespectful thing in the world. If anything I said it the nicest way possible that would go through her head and not over it. I just wanted to be her friend because she was nice to me especially when I was in juvie but I guess I'm the bad guy for not leading her on." He ranted.

"Okay so what happened after that—cause I don't condone hitting a woman but a little push wouldn't have hurt." She ran her tongue of her top row of teeth thinking about the fact that Cayeton put her hands on him.

She was infuriated that she was just now finding out after so long. Had she known earlier they would've been made a house visit so she could have a conversation with the woman who raised the little girl who thought it was okay to put her hands on people because her feelings were hurt, and she probably still would.

Samir had always been taught by her to respect women, so she knew for a fact that If he said he wasn't disrespectful towards her then he was most likely telling the truth since he had no reason to lie. She didn't want to be one of those mothers who could see her son doing no wrong , but she was a realist and she knew he wouldn't lie about that.

"Before I could even really say anything and comprehend why my face was stinging you know lil bit jumped in. I think it was like a reflex—but again she was close enough she probably felt that slap in her soul and it wasn't even her. That's how hard it was." He explained making tameeka smile.

"I can be mad about her jumping to defend me cause I know if a nigga slapped her in my face it would be over for him. But I ain't want them to fight over me—or not even me just the fact that Cayeton didn't like the truth." He went on.

"So exactly why didn't you reciprocate cayetons feelings then?"

Samir huffed pausing to gather his thoughts, "If i'm being honest I appreciated her efforts and gestures, but at the end of the day I didn't feel like she was genuine—or had real and genuine feelings." He felt good to vent to his mother.

"Like first of all, she was interested in me without even knowing who I was, what I looked like, or why I was in juvie, I could've been crazy for all she knew." he stated, "then when I got out she went on and on about how she loved the fact that I didn't get around and no one could say that they had me and stuff like that, and that made me realize she didn't really like me for me but the idea of me." He explained knowing it was such a cliche line but it was so real.

"I understand what you saying. And I understand her to an extent—I'm not saying she had the right to hit you at all but I thought y'all were something and you never cleared it up." She pointed out .

He furrowed his eyebrows, "so when she came here with us I didn't say she was my friend in front of her face and yours when i introduced you?" He asked and her face fell recalling it.

That made her want to back track because he was right, it had been solid since day one but it went over her head.

"See that be the problem, y'all over think too much when it's written in black and white in your face. I said she was my friend and I meant that, but because she was a female you assumed we had something going on. I said it out my own mouth that she was my friend and you disregarded that when I was 100 percent serious. its like y'all took me for a joke" He went on.

"Your right, you did say that. I'm sorry." She apologized because she felt bad for trying to make it seem like he led her on a little when it wasn't that.

She cleared her throat to get rid of the awkward silence, "so is there a new girl? I can tell she isn't just a friend because you avoided the topic." She changed the subject to a more light hearted topic.

"See? I can see in your face, that lil smile you think your hiding." She teased pulling in the drive way of her home. She placed her car in park before turning it off turning side ways to face him.

"I can't tell you ma." He insisted shaking his head no.

"Aww she got your nose wide open." She cooed. "So what makes this mystery girl different from the lil girl that slapped your ass." She raised her eyebrows.

He smacked his teeth, "see ...ion know." He openly admitted. "Wit tayta, stuff just different you know. She care about how I'm doing and helping me get on my feet while I'm still young and got that opportunity feel me? stuffjus come natural with us." He questioned.

He was so glad that tayta was just a nickname he used around her and only her, because he could openly talk about her and no one would ever know it was her.

Hearing the name kind of threw her off, she could've swore he had something for kamaria, but the way his face lit up when he talked about this girl made her think otherwise as much as she didn't want to admit that.

"It's just one thing, I think she scared to commit to me cause of the people around us and I feel like that could be a problem in the long run." He admitted. "I don't know what to do, cause I love her—woahhh" tameeka cut him off.

"You can't be saying you love her after such a short period of time, I haven't even met her." Tameeka frowned. She feared her son became too attached too quick.

Samir stared at her in confusion for a moment trying to rack his brain.

He did love kamaria, he had told her on many occasions and vice versa. They literally said it after every conversation, so him saying it so casually didnt make him think about it before saying it to his mother.

He loved her, but now his love for her was growing into something romantic , and that's what he meant. Yet, his mother got the wrong idea simply because she didn't know that the girl he was talking about had known their family for over six years.

"But I do love tayta." He stated watching as her face form into many different expressions. "It's just now, my love for her is starting to become something stronger and I don't know how to feel about that." He swallowed.

"Well...I'm a little hurt that you love this girl already and I don't know her. But I will say don't let all your fears get in the way of true happiness. If she makes you happy, fuck what everybody else gotta say, including me. As long as she treats you right." She advised before getting out the car to leave him in his thoughts.

Tameeka walked in the house leaving Samir in the car, feeling like a teenager as she hurried to her house phone picking it up, dialing Simone's residence.

It rung four times before it answered, "hello?" Kamarias voice rang and tameeka smiled.

"Hey daughter, just the person I wanted to talk tooo." Tameeka beamed before she got sad again. "I got some bad news for you girl!" She exclaimed looking out the blinds to see Samir hadn't moved yet.

"What's wrong? Is Samir okay?"

"Oh he's fine! He's better than fine, but I guess y'all ship has sailed because he just told me how he love some girl. I could've swore it was y'all two but he's moved on!" She aired out. She loved Samir but she loved kamaria, and something in her told her that kamaria liked Samir, but tameeka wouldn't give her false hope either.

"H-he did?" She stuttered feeling her words lodged in her throat.

"Mhm Yep, he was going on about how he loves her and how she treats him so well ." Tameeka raised her eyebrows childishly, kamaria could feel her heart breaking the more she spoke. "Yep, some girl named...tayta or something." She went on.

Kamaria audibly gasped at the realization. She wasn't stupid, and it was clear he used her nickname to vent about her to hide her identity, but she couldn't lie that for a second she was about to have a heart attack.

"Wow.." was all kamaria could say, and she let out a giggle of relief, sniffing afterwards. "Where is he right now? Give him the phone." She instructed.

The door swung open and tameeka gasped, "you gone live a long time we was just talking about you." She spoke immediately making his head tilt. "It's lil bit." She concluded handing the phone out.

His heart skipped a beat wondering if his mother just snitched on him, he wouldn't put it past her. He squinted his eyes taking the phone placing it to his ear, "hello?"

"Hey," she cleared her throat while he kept his eyes trained on tameeka who was standing in front of him. "I'm gonna assume your mom is standing right there so just let me talk okay?" She went on.

"Alright."

She gulped feeling her stomach bubble as a ball of nerves hit her, but she had to be straightforward and she knew that. "I been thinking about last night all day, and I know that it will be easier if we just forgot about it and moved on..." she trailed while he pursed his lips keeping his eyes on his mother who so desperately wanted to know what was being said.

Samir wanted to be mad at her if he told what was said because that was confidential, but what he didn't know was her telling kamaria gave her that push she needed.

"But I don't want too." She stated. "It's a lot of stuff that we would make awkward, including your friendship with my brother. I don't want things between us to be awkward either, we only kissed one time and stuff is already changing between us ."

This wasn't a conversation she wanted to have on the phone, but in person she probably wouldn't even be able to say anything. His eyes always pierced her soul like he could see through her.

"I do wanna see where we can go—but I don't want everybody else to know yet because one everybody would be in our business way more, and two we would lose most freedom that we do have together." She explained and she was right.

Now, they could go in each others room without a fuss, they could do a lot of stuff alone that would be limited if it were clear that they had a thing for each other.

Kamaria had, had all day to think about this and more endless possibilities

"So can we just figure out where we stand before we get everybody else involved?" She offered.

Samir bit back the grin daring to show, it was a start and he was appreciative of that, so because she could compromise so could he.

"Yeah."

Thoughts and predictions?

Idk, I didn't want them to act weird like it didn't happen because that's so predictable and happens all the time so I tried something different—they still finna sneak around though. Y'all know that's my specialty. I love sneaky shit.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes, I couldn't reply individually to you all like last year cause it's WAY more of y'all, but I appreciate it. I'm sixteen nowwww😊
