KAMARIA WOODS
NOVEMBER 22nd, 2007
THURSDAY 10:03 am
KYREE BURSTED INTO kamarias room quickly just in case she was doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing. He then eyed her suspiciously as she fixed her natural curls deciding on what to do to her hair.
"Oh yeah, that's what I thought. Being a good child I see." He nodded looking around for anything suspicious. Kamaria laughed shaking her head.
She gathered more 'don't shrink' hair gel on her fingers before running them through her curls. "Momma said are you gonna help them cook." Kyree raised his eyebrows.
Kamaria picked up the hard brush, starting to brush back the hand full of hair she had on the top of her head, deciding she would do a half up-half down style.
"Yes, tell her to let me finish getting ready and I'll come help." She spoke softly, watching her hair slick with every thorough brush.
"Alright." Kyree said simply before backing out of her room closing the door behind him. She already knew that slim, Savion, and tameeka had already arrived at their house.
She was starting to wonder why all the family gatherings occurred at her house, but she wouldn't complain out loud, not wanting to hear the mouth of her parents, she just felt frustrated .
The previous day when they played kick ball, it was an awkward tension in the air that everybody could feel. They just rounded it up to zayden being missing, and Samir being back.
They still had a good time, but now the same people would be coming over to kamarias home for thanksgiving, and part of her was ready while part of her wasn't.
Kyree walked back in the living room sitting on the couch as the movie norbit played on the tv having all of them intrigued. Samir moved his legs in and out before finally speaking up.
He had been contemplating rather he wanted to tell Kyaire or not because it had all been in his head, but he didn't see a reason not too. "K3, I think yo sister feeling me." He blurted playing with them hem of his shirt.
"Who lil bit?" Kyaire questioned keeping his eyes on the tv, barely caring what he was saying. If his sister did like him that was nothing he could do about it, as long as she didn't get carried away.
"NahโI was talking bout Sarai. But you think lil bit like me?" Samir arched an eyebrow curiously.
Kyaire licked his lips staring into space for a second, "nah. I just thought you meant her cause y'all be hanging. But wassup why you think Sarai like you?" He replied making Samir nod, shaking it off.
"Ion know though, yesterday at kickball she was doing everything in her power to be up under me, and ian trynna be that nigga but ian feelin her like dat. She yo sister so maybe you can tell her to chill cause ian trynna make her feel no typa wayโno cocky shit." Samir explained.
"Ian gone lie I noticed that shit too but I thought you was entertaining bc it, that shit had me side eyeing you. Preciate you for being honest though, I can talk to her." Kyaire shrugged appreciating him being straight forward about not actually feeling her instead of stringing her along like others would.
Samir was never the type to lie about wanting someone, or even showing interest if it wasn't genuine, so he wouldn't even entertain Sarai. He hated to say it but what kamaria revealed was a big reason why. He felt like his loyalty lied with her, and Sarai being into him just wasn't the type of scenery he was looking for.
"Aight cool, so what we finna do to kill tiโ" Samir asked at the same time that kamaria submerged from the back coming from her room. Samir shamelessly gulped feeling his words become lodged in his throat eyeing her without a care in the world.
The girl sported on a black long sleeved body suit that hugged her body tightly and a cream colored knitted cropped sweater that stopped above her breasts topped off with black Tory Burch sandals giving a clear view to her light pink polished toes. She wore silver necklaces and silver bangles from guess, her lips were coated with clear lip gloss and her hair was neatly done in a half up half down style slicked to the core, with her baby hairs swooped framing her face perfectly.
"Nigga." Kyree snapped her fingers in Samirs face making him smirk.
"My fault I got off track." He dragged his eyes watching kamaria until she disappeared from his eyesight, then he shifted his gaze towards Kyaire and kyree who were looking at him. "Like I was saying, what we finna do to kill time til everybody get here and the food ready. I'm bored." Samir quickly resumed.
"Shit ion know, watchu trynna get into?" Kyaire shrugged ready for whatever.
"Can I come? Y'all never let me come." Kyree frowned looking between the two. He hated being the youngest sometimes because that was a ticket to be left out.
"Yeah you can ride out wit us today ky." Kyaire easily agreed since he knew they would just be keeping it light.
The ringing of the phone all made them look towards the kitchen as kamaria paused from helping clean the greens and got up from the table walking over to the phone.
She picked up it placing it to her ear, leaning to pick up the dark blue towel wiping her wet hands. "Hello?" She questioned, and her eyebrows immediately shot up hearing the automated system.
"This is a collect call from Zayden Mitchell," his voice rang giving her insight on exactly who it was. "...an inmate at the hillsborough juvenile detention center. This call is subject to being monitored and recorded by hillsborough juvenile detention center. Press 1 to accept all charges."
Kamaria pressed one and the went silent before zayden spoke. "Yo. Who on here?" He questioned knowing he only had ten minutes.
"Mariiii," she dragged out playfully hearing him smack his teeth since she was playing on purpose.
"Waddup lil bit, you good?" He questioned.
"Yep, are you?" She questioned while everybody stood wanting to know who had called.
"I'm straight, but aye happy thanksgiving, I miss you, I love you, and imma talk to you before I hang upโso give yo brother the phone real quick." He instructed her making her huff.
"Okay, love you too." She rolled her eyes before looking up, "K3 and slim, zayden is on the phone." She held it up watching them get up quickly making her snicker at how fast they got across the living room using their long legs as an advantage.
Once slim grabbed the phone from her, she walked around the table getting ready to sit back down when Simone spoke up, "lil bit go stick a fork in the chicken and see if it's done." She told making kamaria groan lowly but stood anyway.
She swore she hated this, they claimed to be preparing her for when she was old enough to be cooking thanksgiving dinner for her own family, but she swore it was bull. She didn't even like cooking, or anything like it.
Still, she would help out since she had nothing else to do there until Kourtney and her family arrived at least. That way she could have someone to socialize with. Doing what her mother said, she glanced back at the two on the phone with their third and missing friend and her heart swelled.
Zayden was really their missing puzzle piece, and just like slim, he was family to them. Over the years he stayed in trouble, in and out of juvie, but regardless he was still the best friend both of them could have, and he even treated their family like his.
She had a love hate relationship with zayden, she loved him like a brother and he loved her like a sister, but she hated that on the contrary because he loved her like a sister he treated her as such, so he was just as protective over her as Kyaire and slim. She couldn't get away with anything with zayden.
Still, that was her big brother whether they shared blood or not.
"Where's savy , wasn't he here?" Kamaria asked with a yawn standing next to tameeka who was prepping the mac and cheese faithfully.
"Girl, he went to seminole to mingle with his daddy side of the family for a little before he drive back here to spend the rest of the day with us. You know." Tameeka offered her an answer easily.
"His dad nem rich ainnit." Kamaria pondered, wondering so. Seminole was just a few city over, but in certain places there were nice and large homes and she was positive savions father lived in one.
"Yep, they got bank. Too bad they don't mess wit me cause I would milk em dry." She joked, somewhat.
Kamaria giggled shaking her head continuing to help her mother and tameeka throughout the kitchen.ย "Here lil bit." Kyaire finally said after a few minutes holding the phone out.
She wiped her hands quickly , then walked over to the phone taking it back. "Thank you sir." She said as Kyaire and slim walked away with their days fully made already. Hearing zayden and taking to him like nothing had changed had brightened them completely.
"Hello?" She spoke again.
"Wassgood lil ass girl you stayin outta trouble?" He questioned making her smack her teeth.
"Sound like my dang dad. Yes I have been staying out of trouble and what about you, you don't got that long til you can come home." She raised her eyebrows.
"Yeah I heard you, I been cool. I just talked to slim I'm happy he stayin outta trouble trynna get his life on track thanks to you. So I'm guessing you back talking to him now?" Zayden smirked.
"Oh shut up when will y'all drop it. Okay I was stubborn and iced him out, but he know I'm sorry. That's why I'm helping him, and I could help you too if you just choose to stay outta trouble nigga." She shifted all her weight on one foot knowing she was lying to him and herself.
As much as she would've loved to claim she was helping him because of their past and her icing him out , she was helping him because she felt something for him, and she wanted to see him succeed to his best ability and to his full potential. With the help from her he had a good chance.
She felt so cliche and corny to have a crush on her brothers bestfriend, that was so childish to her but she couldn't deny the attraction. She got butterflies in her stomach everytime he stared at her, or even called her the nickname she swore was ridiculous. Then he would do things like kiss her on the cheek, play fight with her and did pretty much anything she wanted him to do.
She openly trusted him and opened up to him as well. He was like a fever dream. She knew that's all it would ever be though, a simple mere dream, a fantasy at most. It would never be real.
"I'm just fucking witchu girl." He laughed at her practically hearing the eye roll in her voice. She had always been feisty and he was accustomed to it. They bickered all the time, really the only time where she put away her childish behavior with him was when he was locked up and she missed him. Then once he got home they would be back on their childish games.
"What ever boy I'm not finna argue with you." She shook her head.
"You have one minute remaining."
She heard the deep sigh on the other line. She poked her bottom lip out sadly hearing the frustration. She wondered how many times he had to go through this before he learned that it was getting him no where. "My brother put money on your stuff?" She questioned.
"Of course, but if you wanna put some more be my guest I need to restock the snacks innis bitch." He pursed his lip's hearing her laugh.
"I gotchu."
"Preciate you, tell ya Kourtney dem and ya momma I said wassup. I'm finna go aight lil bit." He said getting ready to hang up.
"Okay." She spoke sadly.
"Aight I love you baldheaded ass lil girl." He playfully spat making her grin.
"I love you too zayden, see you later." She refused to say bye. It always broke her heart so she learned to stop saying it.
The phone hung up and she groaned slamming the phone on the hook turning in her heels finding Simone and tameeka smiling sadly.
"Can we just break him out or something." She muttered walking to flop in her seat. She wished he didn't call because now she felt like doing nothing.
Nobody couldn't tell her that wasn't her family. Zayden had gotten one free call for the holiday and he didn't even call his own household, he called them.
"I wish." Simone sighed shaking her head as she cut up the green bell peppers in front of her.
Kyaire and Samir were more so relieved to finally hear from him in a while so their day had been made while kamaria was left feeling bad. She didn't see how people did it, one positive phone call still got her down. Either way zayden only had two more months he was missing out on a lot, he missed Halloween, thanksgiving, and he would miss Christmas and new years.
"You wanna go chill in your room for a little?" Simone offered peeping how her energy had changed. "You look like somebody killed yo dog." She threw in. Kamaria smirked at her shaking her head , still pushing her seat back to stand back up.
"Imma go lay down for a little." She informed them rubbing her nose in the process since it was so itchy. Once they told her okay, she left the kitchen walking through the living room going into the back, entering her room. She closed the door behind her, and slid her feet from her sandals before taking a seat on her bed picking up her remote.
She turned her tv on, pressing play on the high school musical movie she had on DVD inside the tv, laying back resting her hands on her stomach. The girl crossed her ankles comfortably, laying on her fluffy comfortable pillows.
After watching the movie, she had made it to the middle when her door opened, and she looked up with a straight face wondering who was entering her room, being met with her sister Sarai. This meant her dad and Bianca were also now here.
All they needed was Savion, and Kourtney and her family now. "Heyy sis." Sarai sauntered into her room after closing the room door behind her, removing her sneakers from her feet next to her door.
"Hey, wassup." She spoke softly , scooting over on her bed. Sarai took the empty space next to her that she had just provided laying next to her.
"Your mom and miss tameeka told me how you don't feel good right now cause zayden called." Sarai expressed why she was coming to see what she was up.
"Oh nah, I'm fine. Just watching high school musical." Kamaria explained briefly, never tearing her eyes from the tv.
Sarai nodded with a shrug, "okay that's what's up, as long as you cool." She spoke softly. Sarai was in a tough spot, she knew what she had done, had broken her sisters trust, and she never got the opportunity to gain it back because kamaria wouldn't let her get close enough to rekindle their bond again, rightfully.
Yet, what was done was done, and there was nothing she was willing to do out of her comfort zone to gain her sisters trust back. Them being at a distance was good enough for both of them.
She knew she hurt kamaria, and Sarai felt horrible about the fact that she didn't care that she hurt her sister. Kamaria could put on a facade all she want but sarai saw right through it, she was hurt by her actions no matter what she said. If kamaria wouldn't acknowledge it, then neither would she, and that was the hard truth.
"Do you feel like talking about something really quick?" Sarai asked randomly, wanting to get insight on Samir, and she had noticed her sister spent a lot of time with him because she lived in the home he constantly resides in when he wasn't in his own home.
"What's up," Kamari offered, dragging her eyes away from the tv carefully latching them into her sister who had a curious look on her face.
Sarai tucked her lips in her mouth nervously, before just killing all her nerves, "slim...you ever see him with anybody? I know you feel like you don't got no right to help me get with anybody and I can understand that fully but , he's different." She breathed out like it was killing her inside to finally admit.
Kamaria gulped, unsure how she wanted to go about this. "What do you mean ...he's different?" Kamaria furrowed her eyebrows at her sisters unintentional rant. She didn't know why but her sister revealing her true intentions to her made her entire body heat up.
"I don't know how to explain it, at first glance you would think he a fuck boy or something. Still, since he been home I haven't heard shit about him, he don't be in all these hoes faces, and he so laid back you know." Sarai expressed.
Kamaria hooded her eyes with a straight face, this sounded oddly familiar. In fact, she remembered having a conversation just like this with her sister about her ex, and she went and messed with him. Clearly there were blurred lines, but it seemed like a never ending cycle.
Kamaria felt her stomach churn, and before she could stop her self she was lying straight to sarais face, hoping it wouldn't get back to him. "He not available." She spoke simply.
"And why is that? He has a girlfriend?"
Not like you would even care if he did. Kamaria thought to herself, biting her tongue to ensure she wouldn't speak out of term. It was too early in the day for drama to start, so she knew she needed to be on her best behavior.
"Something like that." Kamaria shrugged, keeping her calm composure as her mind was rapidly all over the place. She couldn't believe she just lied to her sister because of jealousy.
"Damn, I mean they can't be that serious if everybody don't know about them right?" Sarai questioned letting her intrusive thoughts get to her. She hated not getting what she wanted with a passion.
"Do you hear yourself Sarai? Why do you think that's okay?" Kamaria scolded her as if she hadn't just lied on his name. She felt horrible about herself, and she knew she had no right to be jealous but something about Sarai just ignited that in her.
Samir was her friend, she couldn't ever have anything without Sarai wanting it. Sarai saw how close they were and chose to take it a step farther. It was exhausting, and she had been playing this game all her life. She was tired.
"You right, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have even came to you of all people when I know how you feel about me deep down." Sarai muttered scratching the back of her head.
Sarai was such a pretty girl , way to pretty to be going after things that weren't hers when she could have her own.
Sarai looked at the side of kamarias face, since she refused to look at her. The fact that kamaria didn't deny that she had ill feelings towards her told her all she needed to know.
Sarai sat up, swinging her feet off the bed standing up straight.ย Without a word she picked her shoes up from next to the door and made her exit without another peep.
Kamaria laid there, staring into space, before she finally decided it was time to come from all cooped up in her room. She let out a frustrated huff, beating herself up on the inside because she was more confused than ever.
Standing to her feet, she picked her remote up pressing pause on her movie before tossing it back on her bed. She easily slid her feet back into her open back sandals, and then snatched her room door open.
She walked back out, the smell of food smacking her in the face since it had been a while since she was out, and the food had began the cooking stage, and left the prepping stage in which she was originally helping in.
She pursed her lips closing the door behind her, walking into the front room seeing Kyaire, Kyree, and Samir still seated in their same positions like they never moved.
Instead of going in the kitchen this time she turned and made her way to the couch knowing that if they were in the living room, everyone else had to be in the kitchen and she wanted to avoid that awkwardness.
Nobody could tell her that her parents didn't feel anything for each anymore, actually it was very obvious. So them being in the same place made the tension so thick.
She sighed, plopping right on the couch next to Samir. The smell of vanilla invaded his nostrils from her close proximity. Kamaria crossed her right leg over the left.
"What wrong wit you?" Samir questioned softly, bitting his bottom lip afterwards.
This caught the attention of her other brothers, looking over at her to see what Samir saw to make him think anything was wrong.
"Nothing." She assured to make her brothers shift their attention elsewhere.
Samir stared at her longer than she anticipated making her shrink under his gaze. He knew for a fact he saw Sarai go back there in her room , and come out not to long ago. From what he knew, they didn't get along, so kamaria coming out with a soured expression alarmed him.
He didn't feel comfortable putting her on the spot and asking her because he knew he wouldn't her want to, and he knew the only way for them to stay on good terms was to respect the boundaries they had set. He promised he wouldn't say anything about it to anyone besides her so he had to stand on it.
"Aight cool."ย Samir muttered with a nod.
Kamaria appreciated that he let it go. She laid her head on his shoulder getting comfortable eyeing the movie playing on the tv screen.
Samirs body tensed, before he exhaled a breath.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Kourtney eventually bursted through the front door with her brother and mother in tow. Saint had a pan of ham with cinnamon glaze and pineapple rings covering it.
"Ouuu yall, that smells so so good." Kamarias face lit up keeping her head on Samirs shoulder as he nodded his head to greet them.
"I know right, my momma threw down." Kourtney agreed with a large smile going to sit next to her friend. "Heyyy slim, I see you and my girl." She raised her eyebrows amused.
"Oh hush." Kamaria mushed her head back away. Kourtney cackled at her trying to down play and deflect but didn't speak on it again.
"So what? Y'all ready to get fat ? Cause I am." She went on basically bringing life to the dull living room. She rubbed her flat stomach knowing she would be bloated by the end of the night.
"Girlaaaa, hush we trynna watch this Christmas movie."
