โGood morning, Miss Yn,โ Jungkookโs deep, velvety voice sliced through the peaceful morning, pulling Yn out of her half-asleep haze. The events of the previous night rushed back to her like a tidal waveโher drunken call to him, waking up in his house and leaving the house.
Her cheeks flushed as she slowly lifted her eyes to meet his. He stood near the doorway, leaning casually against the frame, his shirt slightly unbuttoned, exposing just a hint of his collarbones. His dark hair was messy, as though he had run his fingers through it too many times this morning, unlike other days when his hairs were always slicked back maintaining a professional persona.
Jungkookโs gaze lingered on her longer than necessary, his lips twitching into a small smirk as her blush deepened. There was an undeniable glimmer of amusement in his eyes, but also something warmerโsomething softer that made her chest tighten.
โGood morning, Jungkookโฆโ she murmured, her voice hoarse from sleep and the awkwardness she felt.
Jungkook's heart skipped a beat at the sound of his name on her lips. The way she said it, with a hint of shyness, made it feel like she was unknowingly staking claim on him. โAngel,โ he said, his voice low and smooth, as if testing how it sounded in the quiet morning air.
Yn blinked, the nickname making her heart do somersaults. He had started calling her that in a teasing tone weeks ago, but now, it felt far more intimate, as though the meaning had shifted between them.
โHowโs your head?โ he asked, stepping further into the room.
She rubbed her temple, feeling a dull throb. โBetter than it should be, thanks to you,โ she admitted, her fingers nervously clutching the papers in front of her. โIโIโm sorry for last night. I didnโt mean toโโ
โStop,โ Jungkook interrupted gently, crouching to meet her gaze.
โYou donโt have to apologize, Angel. Iโm glad you called me. What kind of man would I be if I didnโt take care of you?โ His voice was sincere, and the intensity in his eyes made it impossible for her to look away.
Yn bit her lip, her heart racing. She wasnโt used to someone being soโฆ kind, so attentive. โStill, I feel bad for troubling you,โ she whispered.
Jungkook chuckled softly, shaking his head. โIt wasnโt a problem. If anything, I liked having you at my house..โ His eyes flickered to her lips for the briefest second before clearing his throat.
Yn's heart skipped a beat at his confirmation of him liking her at his house.
Jungkook leaned casually against the desk, his eyes fixed on Yn with that signature smirk of his. โIf you feel so sorry for troubling me,โ he began, his deep voice teasing, โthen go with me to dinner.โ
Yn blinked, caught completely off guard by his sudden proposition. Her lips parted slightly, but no words came out. The memory of last nightโher drunken call, waking up in his house, his gentle careโwas still fresh in her mind. And now, here he was, casually asking her to dinner as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
โDi-dinner?โ she finally managed to squeak out, her voice betraying her surprise.
โDinner,โ he repeated, tilting his head slightly, his smirk growing wider. โYou know, the thing where two people sit at a table, eat food, and talk. Or, if youโd like, I can call it a favor for saving you last night.โ
Her cheeks flushed, and she looked down, fiddling with the pen in her hand. โIโI donโt know if thatโs necessaryโฆโ
โOh, itโs very necessary,โ Jungkook interrupted smoothly, stepping closer to her desk. His towering presence made her pulse quicken. โConsider it a chance to repay me, Angel. Orโโhe leaned down slightly, his voice dropping to a whisperโโare you afraid you might actually enjoy it?โ
Ynโs eyes snapped up to meet his, her breath hitching at the playful glint in his dark orbs. His confidence was intoxicating, but it also made her nervous. โIโm not afraid,โ she shot back, though her voice trembled slightly.
Jungkook straightened up, clearly amused by her attempt at defiance. โGood,โ he said, crossing his arms over his chest. โThen itโs settled. Tonight at seven. Iโll pick you up.โ
Yn stared at him, her mind racing to come up with an excuse, but he didnโt give her the chance. He pushed off the desk and turned to leave, throwing her one last smirk over his shoulder.
โDonโt be late, Angel,โ he said smoothly before disappearing out of the office.
Yn sat frozen in her chair, her heart pounding. Dinner with Jungkook? The idea both thrilled and terrified her. What had she just gotten herself into?
Was she really ready for this? Ready to step into a world she wasn't sure of?
The thoughts crumbled her into a crust of confusion where it was haunting and giving her pleasure too. She won't resist a man like him, who showed her affection after she got drunk and wasn't herself. He didn't take advantage of her even if that situation, he carefully let her come in his house and took care of her.
It was just a repay dinner with him right? Nothing more? Her thoughts ran wild. Her heart beating against her chest loudly, let's take it slow.
She wanted to slow down but her heart was too stubborn to listen to her brain. Both fought like cats and dogs but slowly her heart is winning.
A sigh left her lips, her eyes looking towards the direction he went into. The meeting room. She picked up the files and followed him, knowing his unspoken orders and composed herself before entering the room.
Her eyes caught the glimpse of Jungkook busy on his phone, the other teams hadn't arrived till now which pissed Jungkook a little.
He looked up and saw Yn at the doorway, his eyes softening a little. He motioned her to sit down beside him.ย She quickly nodded and walked beside him towards the seat. โDid you call the team?โ his question made her look at him as she nodded vigorously, she wasn't herself right now. He was taking over her mind and body.
God Jungkook, what are you doing to me? I can't even sit and speak properly right now.
Her thoughts ran wild as she looked at her lap.
Her fingers fiddled with each other as she didn't dare to look at him. Her cheeks turning pink, she hadn't experienced this from a long time. She thought it wasn't made for her but no, right now it felt like it was just made for her. This feeling was everything she needed in her chaotic and useless life.
A chaotic, useless life with a hint of love.
But was she deserving of it? Does she even deserve love after all that?
The team entered the room, their footsteps echoing softly against the polished floor as Jungkook and Yn greeted them with polite nods.
Ynโs gaze followed the line of assistants entering one after another, her professional demeanor intact. But just as her eyes moved past them, her breath hitched. Behind the assistants stood a man whose presence sent a cold wave crashing through her.
Her body froze, the air around her seeming to still. Her heartbeat slowed unnaturally, a hollow sensation blooming in her chest as nausea crept up her throat.
It was him. Hyeonju. The boss of Jeoung Enterprises.
The ex who had once left her with nothing but shattered memories and scars too deep to show. His sharp gaze met hers, and for a moment, she felt like she was back in the pastโvulnerable and small. But this wasnโt then. Not anymore.
She slowly greeted them all alongside Jungkook, her voice steady but her hands cold. As the meeting progressed, Yn kept her eyes glued to the notes in front of her, avoiding Hyeonjuโs piercing gaze. However, the moment she had been dreading finally arrived.
โYn, could you elaborate on the marketing strategy for the upcoming quarter?โ Jungkookโs smooth voice brought her back to reality, his subtle glance offering reassurance.
She inhaled deeply, forcing herself to push aside the nausea threatening to consume her. Rising from her seat, she felt the weight of everyoneโs attention, including Hyeonjuโs. Her heart pounded in her ears, but she masked her nerves with a calm exterior.
โYes, of course,โ she began, her voice carrying a quiet confidence as she flipped through her documents. โOur approach for the next quarter focuses on targeted digital campaigns aimed at maximizing engagement and brand visibility...โ
As she spoke, she refused to let her gaze falter, her professionalism shielding the inner turmoil roiling within her. For the briefest moment, she felt a flicker of prideโthis was her arena now, not Hyeonjuโs.
