THE GIRL SAT QUIETLY as Gally paced around the room trying to figure out what to do. He needed to find a way to get Rosie out of there. It was his fault leaving her unattended and confused after the kiss they shared. "You're going to drive me nuts if you don't sit back down." She stated her tone sounding irritated and overly annoyed.

Gally glanced over to her pissed off from her attitude but decided to ignore her and turn to his other acquaintances. "Is there any change?" He asked.

The man in front of the computer screen shook his head, "sorry kid, there's no response. We aren't going to be able to find her."

     "Are you sure?" Gally asked

"Yeah, all we can do is wait and see if somehow her chip is turned back on." He explained. "But till then, we're out of luck again."

The girl stood up reaching the two males as she crossed her arms together, "I told you so." She states. "She's gone, Gally."

Gally looks down at her hating how rude she was becoming to him. But then again, the girl had every right after getting dumped last night after her boyfriend called out a different girl's name in bed. He shakes his head replying before walking off, "you don't know that."

The girl scoffs following him out of the room as she starts to respond, "it's true! You need to get it in your head that she's not coming back! They got her! WCKD's never going to let her out of their sight!"

Gally keeps walking away responding with short answers, "I'll get her out of there."

She lets out a dramatic groan, "I can't believe you're stuck on a girl who doesn't even remember you! How on earth do you think you and her will ever work out? Huh?" The boy clenches his jaw as he walks down the stairs, the girl still following him closely not caring about the anger she's causing him to feel. "Why is she so important to you, anyway?"

The girl almost stumbles back once Gally turns around rather abruptly and raises his voice at her, "what the hell do you want from me? Huh?" Her eyes widen as she's never seen the boy this way. He's never cared about her the way he's caring for this girl that has gone missing. "For me to give her up so that I'll stay with you? Is that it?"

"I justβ€”" she spoke her lips trembling as she tried to hold on to the last bit she had of him, "I, I love you, Gally."

"But I don't love you!" Gally let out stressing out before taking a deep breath controlling his anger and sounding more controlled. "I don't. I'm sorry. I really am."

Tears started to flow down her face as she couldn't control them anymore. "Why?"

"Because I love her." Gally admitted not wanting to hurt the girl more than he already did but he had to get the message through to her.

The girl takes a few steps back feeling her chest start to hurt and tears not able to stop. Her eyes scanning for a lie in his face but she couldn't detect any. "You're lying." She spoke softly trying not to break apart. "You don't mean that."

Gally shook his head, "I'm sorry, Eirene."

"Gallyβ€”"

"I gotta go." Gally turned around leaving the girl frozen in her steps. Eirene watched him leave. She watched him walk away from her not just physically but from everything they built together. The girl wanted to sob and shut herself away from the world. That boy was the first one who had touched her heart in a way no other guy had done so. And for her, Gally was the world. He was the man she dreamt of but Eirene had realized she wasn't the girl he dreamt of. She wasn't his world. She was just another girl he had been with. And that killed her.

Gally let himself into the dark room without letting anyone know where he was going. He stared at the ground trying to figure out what to say and how to let the news out. How was he going to explain it? He failed again.

"I'm sorry." Gally let out running his hands through his hair that needed a trim. "I couldn't get her out of there."

Silence filled the dark room as Gally awaited the words but nothing was said. He knew the person couldn't get up by themselves so he awaited for the person to ask him for help but nothing was being said so he started to speak again.

"I'm going to find her. I promiseβ€”" Gally didn't even get the chance to finish what he was going to say before the person interrupted him.

"Leave." Someone in the darkness had raised their voice sounding broken and out of hope. The person tried to sit up and tell him off because they were mad he had failed to rescue their friend but they couldn't even lift themself up against the headboard.

      "Anderβ€”"

     "Gally, get out!"

"THE WHITE ROOM." Doctor Clarke announced to the staff that would be participating in helping the experiment run smoothly. "Visually the subject will be deprived of all color. The room is going to be entirely white. The surfaces will be entirely smooth robbing them of the variability of touch sensations. This includes the walls, ceilings, clothes and food."

"How would they get rid of shadows?" One of the staff members questioned.

The doctor switched the slide on the tv and displayed tubes. "These neon tubes will be positioned above the subject in such a way that no shadows appear."

     "What about sound?"

"The room is soundproof. It will be void of any sound, voices, or social interaction. Guards will stand outside in silence wearing padded shoes to avoid making any sound. Subjects can't hear anything but themselves." The doctor explained as he continued to answer questions.

"You also mentioned food, correct?" Another one asked as the doctor nodded. "What food will you be providing?"

The doctor smiled as he replied, "the main food will be unseasoned rice. It's enough to keep her alive."

"What is the goal for this experiment?"

The doctor turned to his assistant, Teresa, waiting for her to explain. "The goal of this experiment is to deprive the subject of their senses. It will help us understand her brain patterns and what she remembers more clearly."

      "What are the side effects?"

"The main side effect is depersonalization. It may consist of the subjects detachment within the self including the mind and body. It will be short term. I assure you." The doctor stated reassuring his staff that this wasn't going to be a permanent effect despite the more serious risk that he decided not to disclose, the chance the subject drives themself to the brink of madness. "It helps the subjects be more open to telling us information."

"Here is our first participant." Two soldiers walked on both of Rosie's sides making sure she was under custody. The three entered an interrogation room sitting her down in front of a two way mirror. Rosie couldn't see anyone on the other side of the mirror, but everyone on that side could see her and the soldiers who had cuffed her hands into the chair leaving the room. "This is Subject A53. She's been having a lot of trouble cooperating with the doctors and won't admit to anything. So, she'll be the first person to be admitted into this program."

Rosie looked around her surroundings trying to find a way to escape. The girl tried to think the same way her old self would think. Gally told her she was capable of anything. All she had to do was think but the girl didn't have much time as two guards and two staff members walked in. One person held clothing and the other carried a plate of rice. Rosie tried to figure out what they were planning to do and then it clicked.

     The White Room.

The girl had read about it in one of the documents she was using for research. This technique had been common in the 1900's but WCKD themselves had never tried it before. There had been no record of it. Until now. She was going to be their first subject.

Rosie was pulled up from her chair and restrained by two soldiers on each side of her. Her eyes searched between the staff members who took out scissors and approached her with them. "What are you doing?" Rosie asked frantically. Two people started to cut through her shirt which she quickly tried to stop. "Wait! People are watching!" Rosie exclaimed frightened as nobody seemed to care.

The shirt was cut falling on the ground and exposing Rosie in her bra and pants. "I can change by myself!" Rosie argued trying to move away from the people with scissors. There was no way they were going to strip her down in front of a group of people watching her through a double sided mirror. The moment she tried to pull away and use some form of force, one of the soldiers took out his stunner and tased the poor girl in the stomach.

A scream left Rosie's lips as her knees gave out almost falling to the ground but was held back by the soldiers keeping her up. Tears poured down her face as she could feel the scissors rip through her pants leaving her in only her undergarments. Another scream but quieter left her lips when one of the staff grazed her bullet wound. Her lips trembled and all she really wanted at this moment in time was her mom. She wanted her comfort but the girl didn't know that her mother was dead and she was the one that killed her.

Teresa's lips parted, her hand covered her shocked expression as she held back the tears she could feel start to form. The girl watched them take her clothes off and start to cut through her bra exposing her chest to everyone. "I can do it myself, please," Rosie begged crying trying to cover herself up but wasn't able to.

A hand on her back grabbed Teresa's attention as she turned back to see who wanted her attention. Chancellor Janson smiled warmly, "There's no need for you to see this, let me walk you out." Janson stated motioning to the exit. Teresa glanced one more time at Rosie before nodding and walking out of the room. "Take a walk, Teresa, I'll let you know when it's done." Before she could respond, Janson shut the door leaving her outside by herself. Even with the shut door and her hands covering her ears, Teresa could still hear Rosie's screams full of fear and horror.

The girl turned back around wanting to stop the process but when she tried to open the doorβ€”it was locked. They locked her out. Janson had made sure she wasn't going to be able to change her mind or try and stop the process. They had started and nothing was going to stop them from continuing it. Teresa turned around waving to one of the staff members with a key to the room, "hey! Do you think you can open the door? My key isn't working."

The woman smiled but shook her head, "I'm sorry, T, but the higher up's told us to not give you any access to any rooms."

"What? Why?" Teresa questioned as the woman shrugged her shoulders waking away. Teresa banged on the door trying to get herself inside. "Let me in! Let me in! Stop it! Stop!" Teresa screamed continuing to bang on the door. "She's a kid! Let her go!"

Teresa let the tears fall as guilt consumed her consciousness. The girl fell on the floor crying hating herself for letting all of this happen. She wasn't suppose to feel this way. She promised herself that she was going to find a cure no matter what happens. But Teresa cried for Rosie. The two had never been great of friends but they both cared for each other and she knew Rosie would have never done something like this to her. None of the gladers would.

Trying to take deep breaths, Rosie trembled as they had ripped her clothes apart leaving her completely bare naked. They had done it to check how far her infection had spread but quickly realized it was almost gone there was barely any trace of it. Dr. Ava Paige studied her body trying to find any evidence of her infection but couldn't find any.

Rosie had left the maze infected. She left the warehouse infected. She endured the scorch infected. How is she healed? What did she do to cure herself? Ava Paige needed Rosie to remember. If they were strategic with their plan, Rosie could be a missing piece of the puzzle. She could lead them to a cure. They needed to open up her mind and the White Room was the first step in doing so.
