ROSALIE SAT, MOUTH AGAPE LOOKING AT A FEARFUL ADA.

"why the fuck wasn't i invited?!" rosalie screeched, looking at her sister in what seemed like betrayal.

ada sighed, "no one was there. just me, pol' and freddie. if thomas knew he'd have all of our heads."

"i'm fucking offended, ada shel- thorne, as your only fucking sister i wasn't the maid of honour" the girl scoffed, "disgraceful, really."

"i know, i'm sorry" ada sighed, her hands placed gently onto of her sisters. "really, if i could have you there i would've. it upset me too, ya know... not being able to have your family, let alone your little sister at your wedding" ada spoke tearfully, sniffling slightly.

"oh ada" rosalie sighed, speaking softly now. "i'm proud of you, happy for you, even if you married freddie thorne" rosalie smiled.

"i'm glad i have you. wouldn't survive without ya' don't know how i did before you were born" ada laughed, quickly swiping a tear that spilled.

"i forget your older sometimes, and you only hit the age of storing memories when i was born — so you probably didn't, survive that is" rosalie shrugged, causing ada to shove her softly.

the smile dropped off ada's face as her face fell to her hands. "tommy's gonna' kill me, and freddie.. and now you and aunt pol' because you's know" the woman stressed.

rosalie's head jerked back, "first of all, thomas wouldn't dare kill me im the only one who puts up with the bastard, and two — as much as he might yell and scold ya' he wouldn't dare make you unhappy. hell, he knows what it's like to loose the person he loves. he was so torn up about greta he signed up for literal war" rosalie scoffed.

"thomas fears not being obeyed, yes he may be a dick — but he loves you, ada and if you being happy with freddie fucking thorne is is what you want, he'll let it be" rosalie finished, ada had tears dripping down her face as she let out a small sob and crashed into her sister.

rosalies arms wrapped around the woman, as
if she was protecting her from all things that go bump in the night.

"i love you, rosie" ada hiccuped.

"and i you."

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

"rosalie, have you seen freddie or tom?!" the woman stressed, her hand coming to hold her bloated stomach.

"woah, ada love, sit down" rosalie exclaimed, her hands coming to grip her arms and gently pushing her into a chair. "drink this" rosalie nodded, handing her a glass of water.

her hands shook and a damp sheen laid across her skin.

"we have to find freddie" ada cried, tears brimming in her eyes and she rapidly looked around and attempted to stand up.

"ada shelby, sit your arse down!"

"they're going to kill eachother" that was when ada broke, tears streamed down her porcelain cheeks and the glass that once stood in her hand fell to the floor.

rosalie instantly placed her arms around her older sister, attempting to comfort her. "no they won't ada, as much as they fight they'd never put you through the pain. you know that" rosalie sighed, her hand brushing down ada's frazzled hair.

"i can't choose between them, rosie. thomas is my brother and freddie's the love of my life. why can't they just be civil" ada hiccuped, her head resting against rosalies shoulder as tears dampened the girls t-shirt.

"they're both two stubborn bastards, love — but they will eventually move past this. you know just as well what thomas is like when he doesn't get his way" rosalie smiled softly, once again rosalie proved that she would be there. always.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

the men in the garrison stared at a head strong rosalie shelby as she marched into the snug. james, arthur, thomas and john sat around the table smiling and laughing.

"rosie!" john cheered, his hand shooting up to the ceiling in joy.

"john" she smiled, before her head whipped to stare at thomas. a sweet smile etched on her face as she batted her eyelids.

"what is it, rosalie. c'mon spit it out" thomas encouraged with almost a ghost of a smile on his face.

"please, please! can i come to the races?" rosalie begged, her hands coming to clasp together in a motion usually used for praying.

"rosalie-" thomas began, before rosalie butted in.

"it's for business, blah, blah, blah" rosalie huffed, lowering her voice and broadening her shoulders to imitate her brother. "please, i'll be good. i'll act like a proper posh bitch if i have to!" the girl pleaded, thomas was getting fed up with her whining.

"one condition" thomas began, lighting his cigarette. "you stick by a peaky boy all night, you never go anywhere alone" thomas explained.

james head shot up, "i'll, eh.. i'll do it thomas" the boy spoke.

"alright, there we go — you will spend the day with james. i'll say this once though, no romances will be made... he works for me and your my sister" thomas nodded, clapping his hands against his knees.

"now go find a nice dress, petal" arthur smiled brightly.

rosalie smiled brightly, skipping over to thomas — her hands clasped his cheeks as she pressed a tight kiss to his forehead. "thank you, tommy!"

as she went to leave the room she paused and turned her head, her face was void of emotion.

"oh and also, if ada ever comes to me in the state she was in this morning because of you—" she paused, a sickly sweet smile appearing once again on her face. "i'll have ur head on a stick" she grinned, turning around and walking out to find a dress.

"she's mad" john laughed, clipping thomas on the back of head.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

"james this dress is way to nice for you to get blood on it" rosalie complained, she thought about scoffing — she really did sound like a posh girl but the hiding she'd receive off polly for ruining the dress clouded her mind.

"yeah okay, princess" james scoffed, the pair walking into the ballroom after chasing the lees off the track.

"what!? look me in the eyes and tell me you wouldn't be scared of polly gray" rosalie mused, looking around the room of dancing drunks.

"oh i am, woman's scary" james murmured, feeling rosalies arm slip through his.

rosalie paused, her eyes narrowing as thomas and the barmaid waltzed towards them. "why's the irish girl here" rosalie quizzed as her eyebrows furrowed together.

james sighed, "no clue, words goin' round that thomas shelby has found his match" james recalled, his eyes too trained on the pair that had now stopped infront of them.

the blonde nodded, disgust smeared her face as if she was a painting.

grace had stopped infront of her, an awkward smile was presented as she nodded at her coworker. "hello, rosalie" grace greeted.

"grace" rosalie politely nodded.

"you look lovely" grace complimented, a soft smile on her face.

rosalies eyes flickered over graces figure, "i know."

tension filled their small vicinity. graces swallowed, looking anywhere than rosalies judgemental eyes.

"we chased the lee's across the track and down to devon's road. got every penny back" arthur spoke breathlessly, throwing sacks onto the polished floors, thomas hooking them over his shoulders.

"nice dress you two, fancy wearing them to my pub" arthur sighed, looking at his sister and grace.

"arthur we're barmaids, and the garrison is hardly the races" rosalie laughed, grace just looking at the shelby's with confusion.

"buy the boys a drink. anybody hurt?" thomas asked, placing a proud hand on his brothers shoulder.

"a few cuts a bruises" arthur shrugged, thomas patted his shoulder proudly before turning to grace. "off we go lady sarah" he nodded, walking away from the three.

"i don't like her" rosalie spoke, not caring if she was in earshot or not.

"you don't like anyone, petal" arthur laughed, causing rosalie to shrug.

james sighed, holding his hand out to rosalie. "care for a dance" he asked with a raised eyebrow. morphing his accent into a clean, posh one.

rosalies hand clapped down on his, her fingers clasping between his as she led him along.

when they had reached the area, james' arm slipped around her waist — rosalies hand gently was placed on his shoulder and both of their hands joined together.

their feet stepped quickly as they danced to the upbeat music that blared through the ballroom.

"that dress, phew — if you were my girl" james pondered. his grip growing tighter as he spun her around.

"watch your tongue or i'll cut it out" rosalie snapped, yet a ghost of a smile made its way to her face.

"huh! tommy said the same about my eyes when he seen me looking at ya' " james smirked, his eyebrows raising as they continued to dance.

rosalie laughed, it was joyous and she couldn't comprehend why she was now finding interest in the boy.

"you were looking at me, huh?" rosalie teased, feeling james pull her closer — their faces only inches apart.

"who wouldn't" jame's smiled bashfully, slowing as the song came to an end.

"shall we go to the bar" rosalie offered, a small smile on her face.

"lead the way, darling" james nodded, his hand still on her waist.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

rosalies legs were draped over james' as they passed a bottle of whiskey between them. her dress was ruffled up to her thighs as the heat from james' fireplace warmed the room.

the two were far from sober, giggling at the shadows that were created from the flames.

"i dunno' how ya' deal with them all" james chuckled, taking a drag from his cigarette.

"neither do i, i feel like a mother looking after ten kids" rosie chuckled, grabbing the open bottle.

"my head does be wrecked and i only work for ya's" the man huffed, a trail of smoke leaving his mouth which rosalie thought was incredibly attractive.

"that's worse, you only get the shitty moods, maybe a good laugh if drink is involved but you don't see the real us... behind the 'big bad shelby clan' is just broken men and women who try to glue them back together" rosalie shrugged nonchalantly, she wasn't one to show she was sad over her family although that's all she felt. she loved them dearly yet they were broken people.

james sat silently, not knowing how to respond. he lived alone, his da dying in the war and no mother to care for him.

"so" rosalie spoke, clearing her throat. "what does big bad james abbot do beside cut a few smiles and remove eyes" the girl asked with a taunting smile.

he looked up in thought, "i also do legal shit in the betting den.. i read" he chuckled, watching the girls body shoot up.

"you read" she spoke in disbelief, an accusing finger pointed at his chest.

"is that so hard to believe?" he laughed, pushing away her hand watching as her body slumped back once again.

"yeah it bloody is!" the girl exclaimed, eyes wide.

he hummed, "so what about you?" he asked.

"what about me?"

"what do ya' do besides being tommys mini me" james quizzed, looking at her intently.

"well i mean i look after finn" she offered, but james pushed her with a nod. "i go round with billy treasure — you know him, your mates think it's funny to rip the piss out of him, and connie mace — you must know her too because again your mates sexually harass her every chance they get" rosalie said, she spoke with unintentional venom yet she wasn't remorseful because after all james' so called friends were dickheads.

"yeah they're pricks but it's kinda' hard to find mates when people run and hide anytime you walk past them" the chap shrugged.

"agreed."

rosalies head turned to the clock that hung lob-sided on the wall. she let out a sigh and took her legs off james and stood up.

"i should go it's late" rosalie sighed, fixing her dress as she headed for the door.

jame's paused for a minute, alcohol poisoning his brain. he advanced towards her, taking long strides. rosalie felt a gentle grip on her arm, she turned her body to face him. their faces were close, their breaths mingling together. "stay" he whispered, his eyes flickering to her lips then back to her eyes.

"i shouldn't, if tommy found out..." she began, her eyes trailing down to his mouth where his lip was between his teeth.

his face moved closer to hers, thete lips brushing against eachother. she could smell the tobacco and whiskey off of his breath.

"we shouldn't" she whispered, how badly she wished she could though.

"i know."

his lips crashed against hers. a fire was burning in rosalie shelby and james abbott was the gasoline, he let her flames roar and dance brightly.

james slipped his arm tightly against her waist allowing, their body's to clash together tightly as they stumbled towards the couch they once sat on.

rosalies heart pounded against her chest as her fingers slipped into his hair tugging on it gently, causing james to groan. her hands slipped to the edge of his dress coat, ripping it off of his body as their tongues mingled together.

his fingers danced with the strap of her dress before he pulled both of them off of her shoulders, his hand slipping to her back and when he finally reached the zip, he pulled it down, allowing the fabric to fall and puddle at her feet.

james pulled away, breathing heavily. his eyes travelling her body, before he himself quickly tore off his shirt not caring for the buttons that popped off his his rush.

rosalie stepped out of her dress, kicking it away before allowing her hands to slide to his jaw and pull him back in. james abbot was a drug and rosalie needed more. he was addicting.

james let on hand slip against her hip gripping it tightly as his other one undid his belt and then his pants.

he let the clothing fall into a pile as he gently lowered the two onto the sofa. their bodies fit together perfectly and their warm skin soon caused a glistening sweat to cover them both.

james' lips traveled her jaw, peppering small kisses causing rosalies head to turn up, giving him more room as she let out soft moans at the soft sensation.

she knew it was wrong she's she didn't care. shelby women were born to defy orders of men, and here she was — sleeping with someone she was forbid to ever have romances with.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

the sun shone brightly through the small window that was above the two. rosalies head was placed on james' bare chest and his arm was wrapped tightly against her wait forbidding her to move.

rosalie's eyes fluttered open, she blinked adjusting to the bright light. the girl reminisced in the warmth james' body emitted. her eyes flickered to the clock, six. she jumped up, chasing james to groan as he turned to his back, he opened his eyes groggily.

"morning" he grinned huskily.

"it's six! i'm going to be shot, thrown in the cut!" rosalie stressed as she quickly pulled on her dress.
turning around she grabbed his arm, "zip me up!" she ordered.

james laughed at her, before quickly pulling the zip up. when he was done rosalie bent down, slipping on a heel. she turned around and looked at the man who was covered by a small woven blanket.

"morning" she huffed, grabbing her satin shall and pulled it over her shoulders. james grabbed her wrist and pulled her down to him, placing a soft kiss against her lips.

she pecked his lips once again before standing up, and with a small smile she dashed from the small house and hurried down the cobbled streets with her head down.

when she finally reached the small home on watery lane she braced herself for a multitude of questions she was bound to be asked if anyone was up.

inhaling deeply, she opened the door. she quickly headed for the stairs before polly cleared her throat and pulled the newspaper that was covering her face down.

"and where were you?" the older woman quizzed, a disapproving tone laced her voice.

rosalie slowly turned around and looked at the woman, fear paralysed her yet she began to speak. "oh i ended up in connie's last night, i called in and she was quite upset over what these pricks were saying to her and we had tea... and whiskey, and i ended up falling asleep on her sofa" rosalie rambled, making sure to keep eye contact with polly the whole time.

the woman cocked her eyebrow, "so if i went and asked ms mace about this she would agree?"

"yes she would because it's the truth" rosalie confirmed, knowing everything she had just spoke was a lie.

polly merely nodded, using her hand to dismiss the girl — which rosalie used to escape up the stairs and headed straight into her room, where she found finn shelby fast asleep on top of her bed sheets.

the girl sighed, quietly slipping off her shoes before going over to the boy. she pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead before grabbing a blanket that was draped over the chair by her desk and placing it over the boy.

"god finn, always looking out for me, ay?"
