in which a high school lock-in
becomes a massacre

or

nearly a hundred years ago, it's said that lakeside high school — which is 5 miles from any lake — was built on an ancient native american burial ground. they took apart what was left of it, and plopped an entire school right on top of it, like it was nothing, like the past didn't matter.

and the town's people talked. there was talk of ghosts having been woken up by the demolition and the rebuilding.

no one believed it, for the town crazy lady was the one who tried to warn them, she made signs, told her neighbors, spread the word, she tried, she really did but no one listened and they claimed them 'the rantings of a mad woman'.

but just a few months into the school year the crazy lady didn't seem so crazy.

ethel finley was found dead, her blood smeared down the hall, up the lockers, on the walls, and in a puddle she laid in. they first ruled it suicide, their had been no evidence of anther person, no fingerprints, no footprints, not dna, no witnesses.

but suicide seemed unlikely, ethel was the most popular girl in school, the head cheerleader, had stellar grades, a near perfect gpa, and a full ride to harvard university. even as her friends mourned her loss they only ever talked about how nice, kind, caring, and sweet she was.

after months of investigation, they had found no evidence that suggested something other then suicide.

her friends and peers knew she couldn't have, they didn't believe that she could have taken her own life, she hated pain, and hurting others. those teenagers needed answers and they didn't want to hear that ethel had killed herself, but the only other person who was willing to talk about the other possibilities was the crazy old lady. eleanor.

she told the kids all about the burial ground, the tribes that used to run the land, the ghost stories that had been passed down through her family. and they believed. they believe because ghosts were better than being told that the sweetest girl they knew had killed herself. so, they set out to prove it.

a small group had ventured into the school one dark rainy night, lucy, jack, robert, danny, and mary.

and to cover more ground they separated, but they never saw each other again, well, not in the way they remembered them. danny had been hung from the rafters, robert was suffocated with a plastic bag, but mary's body wasn't found.

there wasn't a body to find. mary made it out alive but she was no longer mary brant. she just looked like her but her mind had been changed, distorted, and she wasn't herself, no amount of therapy could fix that. then she just vanished, presumed to have run away.

lucy and jack –– who have made it out alive –– were taken and found dead in the forest just east of the school. the police were in a frenzy, they had all these deaths — these murders — but no suspects, no evidence as to who it was, and no way of ruling any of these a suicide.

that was just the beginning, every few years, a few kids would go missing from the campus, only to late the found dead.

but the killings had long since stopped, like they just quit. it had been nearly 50 years since the last killing or missing persons, and the town seemed to settle. the past was now just a rumor or a scary story to trick your kids into behaving, sometimes kids even used it for a good scary story to tell around a campfire. but no one believed it anymore, no one cared, and they just kept telling these stories as if it were a joke.

oh, but they were wrong.
they were so very wrong.

๋࣭⭑⚝ all romantic pairings are completely up to you, but i would like for lanie and drew to be enemies-to-lovers if possible and possibly a little carman and simon, opposites attract

๋࣭⭑⚝ characters will die!! whether it's early on or later in the book, over half of them should die ( you can choose who and when and how )

๋࣭⭑⚝ you can make this a ghost story or the killer could be an actual person, up to you. I never figured that part out

๋࣭⭑⚝ simon and jamie are brothers, but jamie was adopted

๋࣭⭑⚝ aria and carmen are sisters, aria is a cheerleader and carmen is a tom-boy

๋࣭⭑⚝ monique and scarlett are best friends

๋࣭⭑⚝ monique is the one the organizes the lock-in, she's very type-a, she like plans and schedules and being punctual

๋࣭⭑⚝ lanie and simon are best friends

๋࣭⭑⚝ andrew and augustus are brothers

๋࣭⭑⚝ lanie and tyler are brother and sister

๋࣭⭑⚝ felix and piper are best friends

๋࣭⭑⚝ cast can be changed or not included at all, this is just how i see the characters
