;THREE.. a boring day at Hawkins High
The rest of the school day was a nightmare.
Loralie managed to make it back just in time to her next class, but her mind was elsewhere. Somewhere far away, in unicornland most likely. Whatever was in the joints she smoked this morning didn't mix well as she now had no idea where she was, what time it was or what was left, and what was right.
She and Maya tried to make themselves look normal, but since they were concentrating so hard on how they were sitting and breathing, they managed to look even worse. Now they were sitting in the worst class ever, math. The worst enemy of the two girls who had not a single understanding for anything that involved numbers. The only thing keeping Loralie from shoving the fucking phytagoras theorem down the teachers throat was the fact that this was her last class of the day.
Loralie sat in her usual seat in the corner with her chin in her palm. She was staring in front of herself with not a single thought in her head. She was counting the ticks of the clock to have some sense of time and how much longer she had to survive.
The teacher continued to explain the boring mathematical issues but she then caught sight of the girl not paying attention.
"Loralie?" Her annoyingly high pitched voice cut through the silence in the room.
The brown haired girl immediately snapped her gaze over to the woman with wide eyes. "Yes, miss?"
"Could you repeat what I just said?" The woman asked with an unpleasant smile. "It shouldn't be a problem if you were paying attention."
Fuck, Loralie thought. Her brown eyes darted across the classroom in which all the eyes were now focusing right on her. She began picking at the skin by her nails, a nervous tick that she had.
"Uh..." Loralie mumbled as she tried to think of the answer.
The teacher narrowed her eyes at her student. "Well? We don't have all day, Loralie."
The brown haired girl glanced back at the clock which showed that there was only ten more minutes left of the class. If she distracted the teacher then she could most likely escape. Everyone knew how bad she was at math so why even bother teaching her anything, right?
"Miss, have I ever told you how much I appreciate you?" Loralie began as she tilted her chin up to meet the eyes of her teacher.
The woman looked a bit taken aback from that random statement. "Sorry?"
"Everyone knows how bad I am at this subject, yet you have never given up on me." The brown haired girl smiled.
Every other student in the class furrowed their eyebrows, not understanding where this sudden compliment was coming from. Some watched in interest but some were annoyed that the lesson was being interrupted.
"Well, I think everyone should be given a chance to learn..." She began to say.
Loralie drowned her long speech out as her eyes focused on something else behind her instead after a familiar chill ran along her spine. Her breath was caught in her throat when she saw the shadow of a large figure creeping through the crack at the bottom of the door leading to the hallway.
It kept growing and growing in size until it suddenly stopped. Loralie could feel her heart hammering in her chest while she tried to calm her breathing.
It's not real, it's not real, it's not real.
The teenager continued to stare until she felt a drip of something on her forehead. It made her flinch as she felt it slowly roll down from her skin. Then there was another and another. She brought her finger up to touch it and once she brought it to her face she could see that the substance was red. A crimson red.
Loralie let out a shaky sigh as she debated if she should look up or not. Realising that this could be useful in the future and this most likely was something that she experienced before she tilted her head up towards the fluorescent lights.
"...I don't care that you zone out but please, try and pay attention the nex--"
A horrified scream tore through the mouth of Loralie and cut the teacher off from her rambling. The teenagers face was filled with genuine terror as she fell back in her chair to the floor. She continued staring above her, she couldn't look away.
Loralie didn't even wait for the reactions of the others or what they would think, she grabbed her stuff in a frenzy and darted straight out of the classroom and did not look back.
The door slammed shut behind her and the room was filled with awkward silence. The students looked amongst themselves in confusion. The math teacher herself was shook to the core from the scream that was still echoing in all of their ears.
"What was that about?" A teenage girl whispered to the people next to her.
Another just shrugged as a response. "You know her, she was probably high on who knows what again. Hallucinating and shit."
"Looney Lola!" A boy laughed and the others followed.
Just then the bell rang signalling the end of the day but the room still sat in their places for a few seconds. The teacher cleared her throat before announcing their dismissal and then all of them finally began gathering their things and pooring out into the hallway.
The brown haired girl was pushing through the crowd with her face drained of any colour. She was trying to escape the building as quickly as she could. Anywhere she looked she could still see it, it was everywhere.
Many gave her weird looks as she pushed past the sea of students. She kept repeating "sorry" as she ran towards the door which led outside to the car park. This was a weird day. She already had two visions in the span of a few hours, both of which she had no idea what it meant.
Loralie grabbed at the strap of her bag on her shoulder to keep herself anchored to reality. She had to go home, and then once the sun sets she will go to the trailer park. There was no way she was going to survive this week sober. She already lost the high she was on before this vision, she was too aware of everything now.
"Hey, girl!" Maya waved as she leaned against to hood of her best friends car.
Loralie struggled to pull her keys our of her pocket due to the speed she was trying to leave with. Once she did she ripped the door open, threw her bag into the bag seat and sat down into the leather seat behind the wheel.
The curly haired girl who was left outside still had her hand up in a frozen wave as she pulled her lips into a thin line. "Nevermind then."
Maya opened the passenger door and slowly sat inside the mustang. She continued giving side glances at her friend who was sitting there with her hands on the wheel with an iron grip.
"Are you okay?" She asked Loralie who still hasn't said anything.
The brown haired girl hummed and turned the key to ignite the engine which erupted into a loud rumbling. "Ready to go?"
"Sure..." Her best friend answered drawing her brows together in confusion.
Loralie wasted no time and pulled out of her usual space. She was going the speed limit but it felt much more slower than what it actually was. Maya was utterly confused from the way she was acting since she seemed perfectly fine this morning and during the other classes they had together.
The brown haired girl had all her attention on the road but her gaze still held a slight hint of fear. Her hands were holding onto the steering wheel as if her life depended on it and Maya wouldn't be surprised if it would have dents in it by the time she gets home.
"Okay, what the hell happened?" Maya asked once again but this time with a determined tone lacing her voice.
"I told you it's nothing." The other teenager answered. "Nothing at all..."
The curly haired blonde glared at her, not believing the lie for a second. "You seemed fine until maths, I wasn't there to see what happened, so what happened?"
"I zoned out and then the teacher asked me to repeat what she said but I couldn't and then she humiliated me in front of the class." Loralie replied with a grumble.
It wasn't exactly the truth but it wasn't entirely a lie either. There was no way that Maya would believe her. Nobody knows about her weird visions except for her parents and her old friends, who were all the dead except for one.
"That bitch." The blonde exclaimed in anger, this time believing what her friend said. "She's not even old but her boobs are already sagging down to hell."
That made Loralie crack a small smile but she decided to steer her mind and the conversation away from what happened a few minutes before. "I talked to Eddie Munson today."
"Oh, and?" Maya wiggled her eyebrows with a smirk on her face.
"No, god no, don't even say anything! It's nothing like that." Loralie gave her friend a glance as she pulled into another road. "I just asked him for, you know, stuff... so I'm meeting with him tonight."
The blonde snickered and grabbed her bag once they came to a stop in front of her house. "Yeah, yeah, tell me the details tomorrow. If you get something then I am expecting you to share it with me though!"
"Only if you give me some money!" The brown haired girl yelled after her but Maya closed the door on her.
Loralie sighed and watched as her best friend walked inside before pulling away and driving back home. This was already such a weird day, thankfully it was a friday and there was only two more weeks to go until spring break.
She couldn't wait for some piece of mind and not to be surrounded by buffoons.
As she sat there in silence with the small hum of the radio on she began thinking once again. This was not normal, it was definitely not normal. The only time she had such bad visions and so many was when the incident happened. She, and her parents, thought that after moving away from her original home her dreams would come to a halt. They did stop for a while but then one day before the dissapearance of Will Byers she had one after another but then it stopped once again.
She never told anyone that she foresaw his vanishing, and the strange fire in the starcourt mall. Whatever it was in Hawkins, it seemed to have awakened these visions in her more and now they were beginning to get worse and worse than anytime before.
Something felt off, and it was bothering Loralie that she couldn't figure out what it was.
Once she saw the familiar two floor brick house she pulled into the driveway. Loralie quickly took a tissue and poured some makeup remover she kept in her car on it. She had to take the blue eyeshadow off before her parents saw, unless she wanted to be given a long talk again.
Grabbing her bag and after locking her car she walked over to the door and opened it to reveal the familiar home. She kicked her shoes off but then remembered and quickly placed them neatly by the others.
"I'm home!" Loralie shouted out into the silent house.
No answer.
"Hello?" She yelled again but there was nothing even close to a reply.
Loralie furrowed her eyebrows before walking into the kitchen. She looked around for any sign of where her mother and father may be but the only thing that caught her eye was the bright yellow paper on the fridge. The teen walked over and tore it off from the piece of furniture.
It read: "A problem came up with the Boseman family again. We will be back tomorrow morning, don't burn the house down. Do your nightly prayer."
Typical. That family just can't stop bothering them. Ever since their daughter got traumatised in the same incident as Loralie they just can't seem to stop nagging them since their oh so innocent daughter, Gracie, accused her of bringing their friendgroup to their demise.
Loralie shrugged and placed the sticky note onto the counter. It didn’t bother her that she had the house all to herself usually, but now after all these dreams she couldn’t help but feel like there was constantly something in the corner of her eye.
The teen girl poured herself a glass of water before climbing the stairs to her room. She threw her bag into the corner where her desk stood and other pieces of crumbled up paper were usually thrown. She walked over to her radio and placed in a random cassette to fill the silence.
There was still a bit of time to spare before she could go to Eddie's place. He didn't specify a time so she decided to leave when the sun was setting so it would be dark by the time she go there. Meaning many would consider it to be night time.
So for the next hour or two Loralie decided to be a good student and quickly finished her homework, since she did not wish to spend another year in high-school. Alongside that she decided to pick a new outfit of choice, for no reason, she just had to urge to do so, and with her parents gone she could do her makeup in piece once again since she cleaned it off before. If only her parents told her about this earlier.
By the time Loralie was finished she realised that the sky was already turning into the purples and oranges that it did when the sun was setting. The teen girl grabbed her keys and her bag which she double checked if it had her money in it and sprinted down the stairs back to her car.
The mustang roared to life and she began driving along the roads of Hawkins. She never really came as far as the trailer park, her usual route was to Maya then to school and then back again. This was a new route to her that she only knew theoretically.
She passed many houses, shops and so on as she drove through the town. Once it began to seem a bit deserted she knew that the park couldn't be much further.
She was right.
The sign to the Forest Hills Trailer Park came into view. Loralie quickly signalled right before turning onto the dirt road leading into it. The only other person that she knew of that lived here was the red headed Mayfield girl, who she knew because of Dustin raving about her two years ago when he had a crush on her and because she accidentally hooked up with her adoptive, emphasis on adoptive, brother.
"I have the money, I look normal..." Loralie looked into her bag and into the mirror one last time before unbuckling herself. "Let's go!"
The brown haired girl ran her hand through her hair as she climbed out and locked her car. Her eyes darted across the slightly depressing looking homes of the people living here. It was definitely not something that she herself was used to seeing but she felt sorry for those whose only remaining choice was a trailer.
As she scanned the terrain the teen came to a realisation. Eddie never told her exactly which trailer he lived in.
"Well shit." Loralie cursed as she turned around once again as if she would magically know which one it was.
There were two options. Either she could scream his name and see which one he comes running out of or just walk around knocking on every trailer.
Loralie chose the second option. She didn't want to have another reason for the residents of the town to call her a weirdo.
"Where the fuck does this guy live?" She mumbled to herself as she walked past trailers upon trailers. "They all look the same, how does a drunk person even tell which is whose?!"
"I had someone almost come busting in thinking it was his trailer."
Loralie jumped in surprise and turned around to see none other than the Eddie Munson leaning against the door of a trailer. The trailer that was most likely his, the one that she was looking for like a headless chicken.
"Jesus, you scared me!" The teenage girl breathed out as she clutched at the collar of her shirt.
Eddie flashed his teeth in a grin as a small chuckle escaped his mouth. "Sorry. I saw you walking around and at first I wanted to see how long it took you to find mine but I started to feel bad."
"Are you serious?" Loralie looked at him with narrowed eyes.
The long haired boy shrugged, faking his innocence but continued to stand there with his arm supporting his weight.
"You know what, fuck you, you just lost a customer!" The girl flicked her hair as she turned to walk away.
Obviously she was just playing around. She never really spoke to Eddie before this but just by the few minutes they spent together today she thought he was pretty cool. Plus he had drugs, which always comes in handy.
"No, I said I was sorry!" He laughed from behind her. "I need your money."
Loralie halted in her steps and turned back to him with a small smile tugging at her lips. "What, so now you admit you only want my money? How rude."
Eddie gave her a playful glare before motioning to the trailer with his head. "So do you wanna come in?"
The brown haired girl rolled her eyes before walking back to the door of the trailer. She climbed the few steps and watched as Eddie stepped aside to let her inside before giving her a bow as if she were royalty.
The door the shut closed.
