1.1 | Summer Ends
──────────❝ 🌊 ❞──────────
Summer is the best time of the year, surfing the waves and soaking in the hot sun. It just so happened to be the Fox Twins' favourite time of the year, the two were different yet similar. The eldest of the two, Mckenzie Fox was a preppy girl with high intelligence and a pure love for surfing. And the youngest of the two, Rebecca Fox was more boyish and adored the waves though she didn't take it as serious as her older sister. Mack and Beca lived with their grandfather, Big Poppa who owned a little surf shop where their surfboards had been personally made by the older man.
Mack and Beca had a best friend they had met on the beach and that was Brady Derulo. Brady and Beca had met first when the younger Fox twin had gone to a local music store in search of a specific Twisted Sister vinyl but instead, she had been distracted when her favourite movie of all time, Wet Side Story began playing on the television. As she was singing along with the introduction song, Surf Crazy she had heard another voice singing along. Beca had turned her head to see the blonde teenager who had a dopey grin on his face and knew from that moment that she had met her platonic soulmate.
Beca then went on to bond with Brady over their shared love for the movie followed by Beca introducing Brady to her older twin sister, McKenzie. It was one singular look between the two and love bloomed like a flower in spring. Beca had been ecstatic about the new relationship that formed between Mack and Brady; and though she felt like a third wheel sometimes, they never made her feel unwelcomed. The trio had become almost inseparable, they would spend their days riding the waves, soaking under the hot summer sun and spending nights watching the stars or hanging out with Big Poppa.
However, summer doesn't last forever much to the dismay of Brady and Beca. And this summer especially was bound to end like no other. For you see, the ones who feel truly lost as the ones who need a true lesson in order to be found. Mack, a brilliant young girl with many opportunities ahead of her, and Brady, a youthful optimistic young boy with bright dreams, both may not realise it but they too are part of the lost souls that are yet to be truly found. And of course, let's not forget, Beca, a careless man's careful daughter with a heart of gold and wonder... well, she had a ride coming her way too. The three were bound to simply be swept away.

"Best day ever!" Brady exclaimed with his usual grin as he and the Fox twins walked down the sandy shore. "Yeah, it was pretty awesome, huh?" Mack replied to her boyfriend with a giggle. "Awesome? Surfing all day, us being together. Awesome wishes it was this awesome," Brady responded making Beca laugh. "Okay, B, I think we got the point," Beca said as she readjusted her surfboard, the creamy white board was unique in design as the top of it was decorated with the East Australian Current with turtles such as Crush from Finding Nemo due to the girls love of turtles and the movie itself.
"Either way, it was perfect," Brady spoke up after a moment of silence, the three taking it in until Mack seemed to frown. "Um, listen, Brady..." Mack was cut off by Brady who turned to her excitedly, "Ooh, did you hear about tomorrow?" Beca perked up at that, "Oh yeah! Forty foot waves, how insane is that?!" Brady nodded at his best friend, "There's a huge storm coming up from the North." Mack sighed, "A surf like that only happens here once every thirty years." Beca nodded in agreement with her older twin, the girl could only imagine what it would be like to surf a wave that big. "Can you imagine dropping in on a barrel that big though?" Beca asked the two of them.
"Summer's not over yet! Woo!" Brady cheered as they spotted Big Poppa's in the distance. "Come on, I'm starving," Mack told the two. "Race you to the house!" Brady and Beca spoke in unison before the two began running to the house. "I clearly won," Brady bragged as Beca put her board to the side. "No fair, you got longer legs!" Beca pouted as Brady patted her head, the girl scrunched up her nose before she moved to tackle Brady, the boy quickly dodging and rushing to the side. "Nope, not again! Last time, I was bruised for a week," Brady complained while Beca laughed. "First thing tomorrow, we hit the beach and that awesome surf," Brady said once Mack caught up to them.
"Brady... about tomorrow," Mack spoke, her smile faded which Beca had noticed for a split second before a familiar song caught her and Brady's attention. "W-w-wait. Hear that?" Brady asked before sharing a look with Beca, "No way! Hey!" The two rushed inside to see that Big Poppa was watching their favourite movie without them. "Hey, what's up, bro?" Big Poppa greeted Brady. "I can't believe you were watching this without us!" Beca exclaimed to her grandfather. "Now that you're here, I'm not," Big Poppa replied with a cheeky grin that made Beca laugh and shake her head. "Please tell me this isn't..." Mack trailed off.
"Wet Side Story!" Brady and Beca cheered together with grins. "Yeah, that," Mack said with a sigh. "Ah, 1962, surfers, bikers. Best movie ever made," Brady expressed with Beca nodding her head in agreement with him. "How can you three like this silliness? Especially you, grandpa," Mack asked the three of them. "Silliness? Mack, my dear, this movie defined an entire culture," Big Poppa defended the movie. "Exactly!" Brady exclaimed. "A surfer guy and a biker girl share a secret love while trying to unite the rivalling gangs as an evil real estate mogul tries to turn their hangout into a massive resort by building a weather machine which blows up creating a massive storm! Silliness? Really?" Brady asked with a raised brow.
"C'mon, Mackie, you gotta admit that it's pretty good! You just have a thing against musicals!" Beca expressed to her older twin sister. "Of course I do! It doesn't make any sense to randomly fall into a song and know the dance perfectly," Mack told her younger twin making Beca roll her eyes. "It's a scripted movie, of course they all know. And besides, why does breaking into song and dance not make sense but dragons and magic does to you?" Beca asked making Mack sigh and turn away, Beca smiling in victory over her mini win. "Well, can we watch it later? Because I really need to talk to you," Mack told Brady hopefully.
"Just watch my favourite part when the two leads' eyes meet, and they're pulled apart by their rivalling gangs," Brady told her as Beca's eyes focused on Butchy everytime he appeared on the screen. They watched as Lela sang Fallin' For Ya, tripping off the stage and falling into Tanner's open arms, the two stared into each other's eyes falling completely in love. "Oh, this is my favourite part right here!" Beca exclaimed excitedly as Butchy pulled Lela away from Tanner. "Hey, get your salty soifer mitts off my baby sister!" Butchy snapped at Tanner. "Get your biker baby sister off our boaring buddy!" Seacat snapped back in response as he pulled Tanner back. "Oh yeah?" Butchy challenged.
"Come on. They really sing for no reason, they come out of the water and their hair is totally dry, the girls never surf as well as the boys, and they sing for no reason. I had to mention that one again, because even a second time, I don't get why!" Mack told them, her brow raised while Beca sighed knowing no matter what she said, Mack wouldn't change her mind. "But it's always summer, and everyone just sings and surfs," Brady replied, it wasn't the best reply but Beca nodded in agreement. "But really, the surfing looks fake. They'd drown on a real wave. Seriously, they sing in the ocean and never spit out water," Mack pointed out.
"It's a movie made in the sixities, Mack. It's entertaining and doesn't have to be realistic," Beca told her before frowning at the sight of the Fox Twins' Aunt Antoinette walking in. "Surprise!" Antoinette exclaimed leaving Mack stunned and Beca frowning deeply, she had a feeling that she knew why the woman was there and she knew that Brady wouldn't like it. "Well, aren't either of you going to give your Aunt Antoinette a hug?" Antoinette asked the twins, Mack was hesitant to do so while Beca shrunk in on herself not liking the woman. "Well, you are so... grown up. You look absolutely-- unacceptable!" Antoinette suddenly exclaimed.
"What?" The twins asked, one in uncertainty while the other in anger. "Not you, dear," Antoinette assured Mack before focusing on the earpiece she had. "Tell him the offer is unacceptable," Antoinette informed whomever was the unfortunate being on the other side of the phone call. "It's good to see you, McKenzie. You too, Rebecca," Antoinette told the two girls but it was clear her main focus was on the eldest of the two girls. "What are you doing here?" Beca asked the woman. "I thought you were coming tomorrow," Mack added with a frown however, Brady was watching the conversation at hand in confusion hoping for some kind of answers.
"Well, you thought wrong. We are leaving tomorrow. I hope you've packed," Antoinette told Mack before looking at Beca, "And I really hope you thought over my offer, dear. It'd be especially good for a girl like you." Beca scoffed and crossed her arms, turning her gaze away from the woman giving her the answer she didn't wish for. "Mack, what does she mean by leaving tomorrow?" Brady asked his girlfriend. "Uh, this is Brady," Mack introduced her Aunt to her boyfriend. "Brady, I am McKenzie and Rebecca's Aunt. I'm sure they've told you all about me," Antoinette bragged but Brady ignored the woman, repeating his prior question.
"Antoinette, welcome home," Big Poppa greeted his daughter. "Oh, hello, father," Antoinette greeted back doing an air kiss before backing from the man. "You know it's always good to have... have you back," Big Poppa told her but Beca knew the woman's distant behaviour was painful for the man who was loving and caring to everyone. "I see you're still making surfboards," Antoinette said to him before spotting the most famous board in the very shack, "Oh, don't tell me. You still have that." Beca looked over to see the legendary board that was a cream colour with a Hawaiian flower painted on it.
"Still have it?" Beca questioned in disbelief before saying, "We all grew up with the legends about this board. It's part of the family." She admired that board greatly and she fully believed in the legends. "Me, your grandfather, and his father, we each found our destiny on it," Big Poppa added with a fond soft smile. "There is only one way to find your destiny, McKenzie, Rebecca... and that is to... work hard for it," Antoinette told the twins. "Okay. All right, Mack," Brady was still stuck on his unanswered question, "What does she mean by leaving tomorrow?" Beca frowned as she and Mack shared a look, they knew that Brady would not take the news well.
"Brady, as of tomorrow, my niece will be attending the exclusive, overpriced, and did I mention exclusive, Dunwich Prepatory Academy. And Beca too if she agrees," Antoinette informed the teenage boy who looked as though his world was falling apart. "What?" Brady's voice was soft and broken. "Back East," Antoinette tried to elaborate for the boy. "Uh, Antoinette, we should talk about this, please," Big Poppa pleaded. "There is nothing to talk about. This has always been the deal. Isn't that right, McKenzie? Rebecca is a little more stubborn, of course, but I know she'll make the right choice," Antoinette stated firmly.
"Sure. It's just that, um... tomorrow there are these extreme conditions Beca and I have been waiting our entire lives to surf--" Mack was cut off by their Aunt Antoinette, "Surf? Oh, sweethearts. Your new lives begin tomorrow. Your endless summer has... come to an end." Beca looked around at everyone, her Aunt Antoinette's words struck her harder than she had expected it too. She knew her Aunt was right, she and Mack had never been split apart so the idea of them being so far apart from one another didn't sit right with her. But she didn't wish to leave Brady, he was her platonic soulmate. Summer really did feel like it was over as Beca stormed out of the room.
