𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩.

As the sun was rising Evelyn Sommers stretched on her cousin's front porch dressed in a pair of black high-waisted leggings and a white tight sports bra with tennis shoes.

Eve decided to begin running four months ago and slowly started building up her endurance. After her aunt and uncle passed Eve read somewhere that exercise in general was therapeutic for the mind.

It either gave your mind a break from the stress or allowed you time to work through it. The former was true for the strawberry blonde most of the time.

Running allowed Eve to free herself from the pain her memories caused. Not just memories regarding her aunt and her uncle but also her parents as well.

Eve tried to get Jeremy to come with her but he pushed her off the bed and then pulled the covers over his head which meant no in Jeremy's language.

Placing her earphones into her ears Eve starts her workout playlist before starting a timer on her Apple Watch which is set for when she needs to return to get ready for school.   

With that, the redhead youngest Sommers begins her run around Mystic Falls losing herself in the burn of her muscles, her lungs expanding, endorphins soaring.

Hearing her timer go off Evelyn stops before resting her hands on her knees as she takes a few deep breaths.

"Are you dying?" A voice asks making Evelyn scream as she jumps up looking at someone she has never seen before.

"Are you an idiot?! Who sneaks up on someone?!" Evelyn demands placing her hand over her chest as she takes deep breaths as the man smirks at her.

"I would say I'm sorry but your reaction," the man tells her making Evelyn glare at him annoyed.

"And on that note," Evelyn huffs as she walks past him heading home.

"Damon," he calls out making Evelyn look over her shoulder while she continues to walk.

"Okay," Evelyn says as she continues while Damon watches her go with a smile on his face before wiping it off.

After showering and running behind again Evelyn throws on a pair of dark blue jeans along with a white top and a pair of brown booties before running out of her room before stopping.

"Uhm Mom why do you look like a boozy housewife?" Evelyn questions her Mom who had her hair down looking in a mirror. Jenna looks at her daughter with a playful glare while Elena laughs leaning against her door.

"Up it is I guess," Jenna states putting her hair up as Evelyn smiles at her and Elena.

"Why are you all dressed up? Ooh is there coffee?" Evelyn questions hurrying down the stairs as Elena follows her.

"Jeremy's parent-teacher conference," Jenna tells the two as Evelyn hands Elena a mug of coffee while she puts some creamer in hers.

"Where is Jeremy?" Elena asks her aunt who walks down the stairs looking at the two with a smile.

"He left early. Something about getting to wood shop early to finish a birdhouse," Jenna tells them making Evelyn and Elena share a look at that as Jenna watches them.

"There is no wood shop, is there?" Jenna questions after a pause.

"No," Elena and Evelyn tell her with a shake of their heads.

"Yeah," Jenna says sighing making Evelyn hand her a cup of coffee.

"Drink some coffee Mom it'll make everything better," Evelyn tells her kissing her cheek before finishing her coffee in one gulp as she grabs her bag.

"But we do have to go! Ready Lena?" Evelyn questions as she sits the mugs in the sink.

"Yes let's go," Elena says kissing Jenna's cheek as they head towards the door.

"Bye girl!" Jenna calls as she takes a sip of her coffee. Her sister was right everything felt better after that.

In the hallway, Evelyn stood at her locker getting all her books just as someone came up behind her tapping her shoulder.

Evelyn turns around before smiling at the cup of coffee.

"Oh coffee! Is this mine?!" Evelyn questions looking up and finally noticing who held it up to her.

"Thought it would be an apology for almost making you drop yours," Stefan says making Evelyn laugh as she takes it from.

"Thank you, Stefan," Evelyn tells him as she shuts her locker and the two begin walking down the hallway.

"How's Mystic Falls treating you?" Evelyn asks him as Stefan shrugs at that.

"It's been good so far just hoping it gets better," Stefan tells her as Evelyn nods at him smiling before pausing.

"Do you have a brother?" Evelyn asks Stefan who pauses at that looking at Evelyn who shakes her head at him.

"Sorry, that was rude. You just sort of look like this guy I met when I was running this morning," Evelyn says as she finally takes a sip of her coffee while Stefan watches her.

"This is delicious!" Evelyn exclaims making Stefan laugh at her shaking his head just as someone loops her arm with their's.

"There's my favorite strawberry blonde!" Caroline exclaims as she smiles at Evelyn and then at Stefan who smiles back at her.

"Sorry I need to steal her," Caroline tells Stefan pulling Evelyn away as the girl waves bye at him.

"Thanks, Steffie for the coffee!" Evelyn calls out as Caroline drags her away.

"Okay, so I need your help after school. I have hundreds of pamphlets to fold," Caroline tells Evelyn who nods at her.

"As long as food is involved I'm there," Evelyn tells Caroline who chuckles at her nodding her head.

"The Grill it is then!" Caroline exclaims as Evelyn shakes her head taking a sip of her coffee.

After school, Evelyn, Caroline, Bonnie, and Elena sat around a table at the Grill as they folded pamphlets for Comet.

"Well, I was talking to Grams, and she said the comet is a sign of impending doom. The last time it passed over Mystic Falls, there was lots of death. So much blood and carnage, it created a bed of paranormal activity," Bonnie says as Evelyn stares at her taking a sip of milkshake with a tilt of her head.

"Yeah, and then you poured Grams another shot and she told you about the aliens," Caroline says making Evelyn kick her with a look while Caroline rolls her eyes looming towards Elena.

"So then what?" Caroline asks Elena who shakes her head at her.

"So then nothing," Elena tells Caroline as she folds a pamphlet.

"You and Stefan talked all night? There was no sloppy first kiss or touchy-feely of any kind?" Caroline questions Elena's incident as Evelyn shakes her head.

"Nope. We didn't go there," Elena tells Caroline with a shrug.

"Not even a handshake? I mean, Elena, we are your friends. Ok? You are supposed to share the smut!" Caroline exclaims as Evelyn winkles her nose at that shaking her head.

"We just talked for hours," Elena tells Caroline with a hint of a smile on her face.

"OK, what is with the blockage? Just jump his bones already! Ok, it's easy. Boy likes girl, girl likes boy, sex!" Caroline says as Evelyn shakes her head at her.

"Profound," Elena says pointing at Caroline before she pauses then gets up making everyone look at her.

"Where are you going?" Bonnie asks Elena as she grabs her bag.

"Caroline's right. It is easy. If I sit here long enough, I'll end up talking myself out of it instead of doing what I started the day saying what I was going to do," Elena says as she smiles before grabbing Evelyn's arm as she grabs a fry pulling the strawberry blonde up.

"What? My fry!" Evelyn exclaims as Elena pulls making Evelyn pout as Bonnie and Caroline laugh at the two.

"I'm your ride and you're my excuse if I want to leave," Elena tells her cousin who stares at her.

"But what if I want to leave?" Evelyn questions getting into the car as Elena smiles at her.

"You love me too much," Elena says as Evelyn rolls her eyes at her with a smile on her face.

"I hate you," Evelyn mutters making Elena laugh as she pulls out of the parking spot.

"Wow," Evelyn says wide-eyed as she looks at the Salvatore Boarding House while Elena nods her head.

The two girls get out of the car and walk toward the front door. Elena knocks on the door and the two watch as it opens.

Elena walks in pulling Evelyn with her who looks at the door creeped out.

"Elena this is how horror movies start," Evelyn whispers shouts as Elena shakes her head at her.

"Stefan? Stefan?" Elena calls out as a crow flies into the house.

"What the hell?!" Evelyn yells ducking as she turns around bumping into something almost falling as an arm wraps around her waist.

"Are you always this clumsy or just around me?" A familiar voice questions making Evelyn look up at him.

"Mr.Creepier should have known you would be in this horror movie in the making," Evelyn says rolling her eyes as Damon smiles at her.

"Uhm you know each other?" Elena questions as Evelyn steps back from Damon with a huff.

"I ran into him while I was running this morning," Evelyn tells Evelyn who nods at her slowly confused.

"Although I never did get your name," Damon says holding Evelyn's hand as he goes to kiss it making Evelyn pull it away in disgust.

"I'm good thanks. Where's Stefan?" Evelyn questions Damon who smirks at her.

"What my cousin means is that we're sorry for barging in. The door was...open," Elena says looking towards the door which is now closed Evelyn shakes her head.

"Horror movie," Evelyn whispers shaking her head as Damon looks over Evelyn's shoulders to Elena.

"You must be Elena. I'm Damon, Stefan's brother," Damon tells Elena who nods at him slowly.

"He didn't tell me he had a brother," Elena says looking at Evelyn who shrugs at her.

"Well, Stefan's not one to brag. Please, come. I'm sure Stefan will be along any second," Damon says leading the two towards the living room. Elena and Evelyn look around before sharing a look.

"Wow," Evelyn mouths as Elena nods her head at her.

"This is your living room?" Elena questions Damon.

"Living room, parlor, Sotheby's auction. It's a little kitschy for my taste. I see why my brother's so smitten. It's about time. For a while there, I never thought he'd get over the last one. Nearly destroyed him," Damon tells her casually as Evelyn squints her eyes at him.

"The last one?" Elena questions gulping slightly.

"Yeah. Katherine, his girlfriend? Oh, you two haven't had the awkward exes conversation yet," Damon says acting as if it was embarrassing but the look in his eyes said a lot more.

"Nope," Elena tells him shaking her head.
"Oops. Well, I'm sure it'll come up now. Or maybe he didn't want to tell you because he didn't want you to think he was on the rebound. We all know how those relationships end," Damon tells Elena as he looks at Evelyn who just cross her arms over her chest.

"You say it like every relationship is doomed to end," Elena tells Damon who looks back at her.

"I'm a fatalist. Hello, Stefan," Damon says not taking his eyes off of Elena as Evelyn spins around seeing Stefan watching everything.

"Evelyn Elena. I didn't know you two were coming over," Stefan states as he stares at his brother.

"I know. I should have called, I just...," Elena says trailing off and looking towards Evelyn who shrugs at her.

"Testosterone," Evelyn mouths to Elena who bites her lips so she doesn't laugh.

"Oh, don't be silly. You're both welcome anytime. Aren't they, Stefan?" Damon says while Evelyn looks at him even more creeped out.

"You know, I should break out the family photo albums or some home movies. But...I have to warn you. He wasn't always such a looker," Damon says making Elena smile while Evelyn just looks between the two brothers.

"Thank you for stopping by, Evelyn Elena. Nice to see you both," Stefan says dismissing the two as Evelyn grabs Elena's arm.

"Yeah, I should probably go. It was nice to meet you, Damon," Elena says making Damon smile at her.

"Great meeting you, too, Elena," Damon says before looking at Evelyn with a smirk.

"Nice to meet you, Evelyn," Damon says as the girl rolls her eyes.

"Can't say the same," Evelyn says as she goes to walk out of the boarding house only to find Stefan blocking the way as he stares at Damon.

"Stefan....Stefan?" Elena calls twice before he finally Stefan moves and Evelyn and Elena leave.

Once out the door, the two share a look shaking their heads.

"Like I said testosterone," Evelyn tells Elena who laughs at her shaking her head.

Back at the Gilbert house, Evelyn sits on the counter eating some ice cream with Elena and Jenna around her eating some from the same pint.

"He's on the rebound and has raging family issues," Elena tells Jenna who looks at her.

"Well, at least it's an ex-girlfriend. Wait till you date a guy with mommy issues or cheating issues. Or amphetamine issues," Jenna says making Evelyn look at her disgusted.

"Eww Mom. Just eww," Evelyn says making Jenna laugh just as the door opens and Jeremy enters the house. Jenna looks at the two girls before heading towards the stairs.

"Jeremy? Jeremy, where were you?" Jenna calls out to him while Jeremy stops almost at the top.

"More stoner stories? Look, Jenna, I get it, you were cool. And so that's...that's cool," Jeremy says stoned.

"Stoner stories?" Evelyn mouths to Elena who shrugs eating some more ice cream as they lean to watch what Jenna would do next.

"Oh, no, no, no!" Jenna exclaims as she throws an apple at Jeremy's head while Elena and Evelyn cover their laughs.

"Ow! Why? Why...why did you do that?" Jermey asks his aunt confused.

"Listen up! Quit ditching class or you're grounded. No discussion," Jenna tells Jermey who smirks at her.

"Parental authority, I like it. Sleep tight," Jeremy says as he nods walking up the steps toward his room with a smile on his face.

"That was amazing," Evelyn says holding the ice cream out to her Mom who sighs taking it.

"I am taking this and going to bed," Jenna says walking away as Evelyn pouts at the lost ice cream before looking at Elena.

"Want to make some brownies?" Evelyn asks cheerfully making Elena laugh as she nods.

The next night after the two girls ate an entire pan of brownies together while watching Twilight Elena and Evelyn now stood in the town square.

"Hey, I got some candles," Caroline says walking up to the two handing them candles.

"Thanks, Care," Evelyn says Caroline lights her candles, and then Evelyn lights Bonnie's.

Looking to find Elena to light her she sees her talking to Matt as she winces.

"Nope," Evelyn says spinning around as Caroline and Bonnie look at her confused before seeing what she saw.

"Agreed," Caroline and Bonnie say as they begin walking away chuckling slightly.

"So Bonnie you think impending doom is coming soon to Mystic Falls?" Evelyn asks her making Bonnie shake her head as Caroline laughs.

Inside the Grill, Evelyn sits next to Caroline and Elena with Bonnie beside her sipping a milkshake while they laugh at something Tyler just told them as Jeremy comes up to the table.

"Hey, has anyone seen Vicki?" Jeremy questions worriedly as Evelyn looks towards him.

"You're her stalker. You tell us," Tyler says making Evelyn glare at the boy and sigh at Jeremy.

"I can't find her," Jeremy tells them.
"She probably found somebody else to party with. Sorry, pill pusher, I guess you've been replaced," Tyler says as Evelyn and Elena look toward Jermey at that.

"What's with the pill pusher?" Elena asks both of them.

"Ask him," Tyler says gesturing towards Jermey who doesn't look at his sister or cousin.

"You wanna do this right now?" Jermey questions the boy.

"Are you dealing?" Elena demands her brother.

"She's never gonna go for you," Tyler tells Jermey.

"She already did. Over and over and over again," Jeremy says making Evelyn look at him disgusted.

"I'm sorry what? And how old is Vicki?" Evelyn demands angrily glaring at her baby cousin.

"You slept with Vicki Donovan? I mean, Vicki Donovan slept with you?" Caroline questions confused as Tyler shakes his head.

"You know what, how about all of you shut up and help me find my sister?" Matt questions angrily.

"We'll check the back," Bonnie says grabbing Caroline's arm who nods.

"I'll check the square," Matt says making Jermey nod.

"I'll come with you," Jeremy says making Evelyn shake her hand as she grabs Jermey by his shirt angrily.

"Oh, no, no, no. You are coming with us. So that's your game now, dealing?" Elena demands her brother with a glare as Evelyn stares at her baby cousin.

"I'm not dealing," Jeremy tells the two girls.
"Look, I'm sick of the tough love speech, Jer. It's clearly having no impact," Elena tells her brother.

"You and Jenna, between the two of you. Enough already!" Jermey demands annoyed as Evelyn watches.

"We can stop if you want. Send you to a therapist where you'll be forced to deal with it or to rehab where you'll sit in a group and tell some stranger how you let your life fall apart. Or you could talk to me," Elena pleads to her brother who shakes his head.

"I vote for none of the above," Jermey says storming off as Elena sighs making Evelyn stand up.

"Let me talk to him Lena," Evelyn tells Elena who nods at that while Evelyn runs after her baby cousin.

Seeing him heading out the door Evelyn grabs Jermey by the ear and twists it making him scream out.

"Evelyn!" Jermey yells as the strawberry blonde drags him towards the alley so no one can see them.

"What the hell?!" Jermey exclaims as Evelyn lets go and faces Jermey annoyed.

"You know Elena had her talk with you and Mom had her talk with you. Now it's my turn," Evelyn tells him as Jeremy shakes his head at her.

"I've watched you this summer and see it wasn't after everything happened that you started. You started drugs even before they died it just has gotten a lot worse now," Evelyn says as Jeremy stares at her before sitting down on steps while Evelyn watches him.

"What's going on Jer? Is it the people you're around? Is it grief? Just teenage rebellion? What? Because I'm sick of it. Your sick is sick of it. And my Mom is sick of it. So Jer I'm going to ask what the hell is wrong with you?" Evelyn demands as Jeremy watches her.

"Mom found out the night of the accident. She threatened to call Sheriff Forbes on me," Jeremy chuckles looking down as Evelyn watches him.

"And then she died. With Vicky, Eve with her it doesn't hurt as much," Jermey tells his cousin who sighs at him as she sits down beside him.

"That's called a bandaid Jer," Evelyn tells him making Jermey look towards her.

"And the thing about bandaids is that they can only last so long. Eventually, everything will bleed through or it will deteriorate. Sometimes it just won't stick anymore. Bandaids aren't a solution Jer and I get why you want to use them but it's just going to get you both hurt in the end," Evelyn says softly while Jeremy watches her.

"And also she's older than me. So eww!" Evelyn exclaims making Jermey laugh at her as they hear footsteps come closer to them.

The two look over their shoulders to see Elena standing there. Evelyn hits Jeremy's shoulder who sighs as he gets up.

"Sorry Lena," Jermey tells Elena who smiles at him as Jermey walks away. Evelyn gets up wiping the dirt off her butt as Elena sighs at her.

"You always could talk some sense into him," Elena tells Evelyn who shrugs.

"Both of you honestly," Evelyn jokes making Elena laugh at her.

"I'm going to head home," Elena says making Evelyn nod at her.

"Be careful," Evelyn tells her waving as Elena walks away Evelyn sighs at her heading back into the Grill.

Inside the Grill Evelyn, Caroline, and Bonnie sit at another table watching Vicki and Matt.

"Ugh, it's just so much drama. Ever notice how the druggies are the biggest attention whores?" Caroline questions making Bonnie and Evelyn nod at her.

"Yeah," Bonnie says just as Stefan walks up to the table.

"Excuse me. Hi," Stefan says making the three girls look at him.

"Hey Stefan," Evelyn says making him smile at her.
"Um, have you guys seen Elena?" Stefan questions looking pointedly at Evelyn.

"She went home," Evelyn tells Stefan who nods his head at that as Bonnie looks at him before grabbing a pen and a napkin.

"I'm gonna give you Elena's cell number and her email. She is big on texting, and you can tell her..."I said so"," Bonnie says as Evelyn and Caroline shake her head at her.

"Thank you," Stefan says smiling as Bonnie hands the napkin to him and as she does she touches Stefan's hand and freezes.

"You ok?" Stefan asks her worriedly as Bonnie snaps out of it with a terrified look on her face.

"What happened to you?" Bonnie questions making everyone stare at her. Bonnie shakes her head a moment later.

"That's so rude. I'm sorry. Excuse me," Bonnie says grabbing her stuff and rushing off.

"Yeah, she kind of wigs out. It's like her thing," Caroline tells Stefan who nods slowly at that making Evelyn sigh.

"I'm going to go check on her. Text me when you get home Care and have a good night Stefan," Evelyn says walking away as the two smile at her watching her go.

Stepping out of the Grill Evelyn looks around sighing not seeing Bonnie as she heads towards her car to head home.

"Evie!" A voice calls making her look over her shoulder and groan while rolling her eyes as she continues walking.

"Oh Evelyn," Damon says as he walks beside her while Evelyn heads towards her car.

"Goodbye thing," Evelyn says as she opens her car door. Damon smirks at her as Evelyn gets in her car locking the doors as she leaves the town square Damon watches her go with a smirk.
