"I'm not saying don't date the guy. I'm just saying take it slow," Bonnie says towards Elena as the three girls get out of Bonnie's car at the high school.

"You were the one who said to go for it," Elena reminds her making Evelyn nod at that.

"Now I'm saying take it slow," Bonnie tells Elena as Evelyn looks between the two girls.

"Why the about-face?" Elena questions Bonnie as Evelyn tilts her head. Bonnie definitely had the about-face on.

"It's not an about-face. You're single for the first time in your entire high school career. It's the perfect time to play the field," Bonnie says making Elena and Evelyn share a look at that trying not to laugh.

"Oh, because I'm so that girl. Seriously, what are you not saying?" Elena questions her best friend.

"It's stupid," Bonnie says with a sigh making Elena and Evelyn share a look as they step in front of the Bennett making her look at them.

"Bonnie...," the two cousins say simultaneously making the Bennett stare at them.

"That is still creepy when you both do that," Bonnie tells them as Evelyn winks at her making Elena grab her shoulders.

"Spit it out," Elena tells the girl making Evelyn smile softly at Bonnie nodding her head as Bonnie sighs.

"I accidentally touched Stefan. And I got a really bad feeling," Bonnie admits making Evelyn tilt her head at her.

"Is that it? Bonnie," Elena says shaking her head making Bonnie stare at her.

"It was bad bad!" Bonnie tells her making Elena stare at her.

"Is this the whole witch mojo thing again?" Elena questions as Bonnie tenses slightly.

"You know what? I'm just concerned. This is me expressing concern about my best friend's new boyfriend," Bonnie says as Evelyn watches her clearly noticing that lie.

"And I love you for it, I do. But I feel good. It's been a hard year, and I'm starting to kind of feel like things are getting back to normal again. And you know what? Stefan is a big part of that," Elena admits making Bonnie nod at her.

"But-," Evelyn says making Elena and Bonnie turn to her staring at the strawberry blonde.

"If Bonnie has a bad feeling we need to honor it, Lena. Best friend code and stuff like that," Evelyn says as she loops an arm through Bonnie's as the two stare at Elena who nods at them.

"You're right Evie. I'm sorry Bonnie," Elena says making Bonnie smile at her as she squeezes Evelyn's hand who smiles at her as the three head towards the school.

"You know what I think we need a girls' night. All of us including Care. We watch a movie, eat a bunch of ice cream, make brownies, and eat pizza! Oh or Chinese!" Evelyn says making Bonnie and Elena laugh at her.

"Sounds good to me," Elena says shrugging as Bonnie nods.

"We haven't had one in forever," Bonnie comments as Evelyn smiles nodding just as someone walks towards them.

"Good morning, Elena. Good morning, Evelyn. Good morning, Bonnie," Stefan says greeting the three girls making Bonnie look at him then Evelyn as Elena smiles at Stefan.

"Hey, um, I gotta find Caroline. She's not answering her phone. So I'll see you guys later," Bonnie says before she leaves as Evelyn watches her leave.

"Bonnie, wait...," Elena says before sighing once Bonnie doesn't turn back around.

"She doesn't like me very much," Stefan comments making Evelyn nod.

"Not really," Evelyn smiles making Stefan chuckle as Elena hits her cousin's arm who shrugs at her.

"She doesn't know you. She's my best friend. She's just looking out for me. But when she does, she will love you," Elena comments smiling as Evelyn shrugs.

"Maybe," Evelyn says making Elena huff at her as Evelyn smiles.

"Here's what we're going to do. Are you free tonight?" Elena questions Stefan who smiles as he nods.

"Yes," Stefan tells her. 

"Perfect. Dinner, my house. 8:00. You, me, Evelyn, and Bonnie. You two will spend some quality time and she'll get to see what a great guy you are. Mission accomplished," Elena says making Evelyn stare at her as Stefan nods.

"Wait who said I was coming? I could have plans," Evelyn comments making Elena and Stefan look towards the strawberry blonde.

"Do you?" Elena questions her cousin who pauses at that.

"Well...no! But that's not the point," Evelyn says making Stefan laugh as Elena shakes her head at her just as Evelyn catches something out of the corner of her eye. Tyler throws a football straight towards Stefan, who has his back towards him.

Before Evelyn could warn him, Stefan quickly turns around, catches the ball, and throws it right back to Tyler as Tyler and Matt watch in shock and Evelyn and Elena laugh.

"That was awesome! Do you think you could do it again? But this time hit him in the face as a record it?" Evelyn questions excitedly making Stefan shake his head at her as Evelyn looks at him heartbroken.

Evelyn doodles in her notebook as she sits in history class beside Bonnie. Looking towards the Bennett Evelyn looks confused as she sees Bonnie writing three different numbers in her book. "8", "14", "22".

"World War II ended in...Anyone got anything? Miss Juan? 1945," Tanner questions as one of the students.

"Psst. FYI...Our team sucks. They could use you," Elena tells Stefan trying to whisper but failing horribly.

"Can't, I'm a loner," Stefan tells her making Elena shake her head as she looks behind her towards her cousin.

"Evie. Tell him," Elena says towards Evelyn making her hum as Evelyn looks up towards the two.

"Oh definitely Elena's right," Evelyn tells Stefan before looking at Elena.

"What am I agreeing with?" Evelyn questions Elena who shakes her head as she smiles.

"Our football team sucks," Elena tells her cousin who pauses before immediately nodding.

"They do. We don't even win our own homecomings. We suck that bad," Evelyn tells Stefan who chuckles at her while Elena smiles brightly at her cousin.

"Miss Gilbert?" Tanner questions making Elena and Evelyn look towards Tanner.

"Hmm?" Elena questions making Tanner look angry.

"Elena. Pearl Harbor?" Tanner questions the brunette as Elena looks wide-eyed not knowing.

"December 7, 1941," Stefan tells Tanner as Elena smiles at him.

"Thank you, Miss Gilbert," Tanner says with a glare making everyone laugh.

"Anytime," Stefan says with a smile.

"Very well. The fall of the Berlin Wall?" Tanner questions.

"1989. I'm good with dates, sir," Stefan tells Tanner making Tanner glare at him.

"Are you? How good? Keep it to the year. Civil Rights Act," Tanner says as he starts walking towards Stefan.

"1964," Stefan tells him right away.
"John F. Kennedy assassination."
"1963."

"Martin Luther King."
"68."

"Lincoln."
"1865."
"Roe vs. Wade."
"1973."

"Brown vs. Board."
"1954," Stefan says as everyone bounces their eyes back and forth between the two.

"The Battle of Gettysburg."
"1863."
"Korean War."
"1950 to 1953."

"Ha! It ended in '52," Tanner said with a happy expression making everyone sigh.

"Uh, actually, sir, it was '53," Stefan says as Evelyn pulls her phone out and starts to look it up.

"Look it up, somebody. Quickly," Tanner yells as Baylee smirks at her phone.

"It was 19...53, Tanner," Evelyn says with a smirk towards Tanner making him glare at her as the bell rings.

"That was amazing," Evelyn tells Stefan as she shakes his shoulders smiling brightly as someone calls her name.

"Evelyn Sommers!" Caroline exclaims making the strawberry blonde stare wide-eyed.

"Uhm I gotta go!" Evelyn says as she rushes out of the room making Caroline huff as she runs after her.

"You can't run from me, Eve! You've been avoiding me! And you are doing it! Eve! Evie! Evelyn!" Caroline exclaims as she chases Evelyn through the high school hallways as people just look on not knowing what to say.

"No! You can't force me! Caroline Forbes! Let me go!" Evelyn says as she holds onto the locker room door as Caroline tries to pull her out.

"It's just cheerleading practice! You are doing this! Evelyn!" Caroline says making Evelyn shake her head.

"Nope! No! I can't do this! I'm a terrible cheerleader! I don't like exercise," Evelyn says as Caroline stares at her.

"You run every morning," Caroline tells her making Evelyn stare for a moment and it was just enough for Caroline to pull her out.

"Ha! I gotcha you," Caroline says smiling big as Evelyn huffs at her annoyed.

"Now let me see. Do a twirl," Caroline says spinning her finger as Evelyn glares at her making Caroline huff.

"Fine," Evelyn says rolling her eyes as she twirls in the Mystic Falls High cheerleading uniform with her hair in a high pony with a red bow in it.

"Aww! You look amazing! I'm a miracle worker!" Caroline says clapping as Evelyn glares at her.

"Crap! Is that the time? I'm so late! Get changed and meet us on the field for practice!" Caroline says as she runs out as Evelyn watches her go with a huff before spotting someone leaning against the bleachers watching the football team practice.

"Thinking about it?" Evelyn questions as she walks towards Stefan who looks towards her and immediately looks wide-eyed.

"Caroline," Evelyn tells him shaking her head making Stefan laugh as he shakes his head.

"You should," Evelyn says pointing towards the team as Stefan sighs looking back out.

"I don't know. I like the loner thing," Stefan says making Evelyn chuckle.

"You can still be a loner but make sure our team wins. Because they truly suck," Evelyn said making Stefan laugh as he shakes his head.

"Just think about it. You never know you might like it," Evelyn tells him before she spins around to walk away.

"Like cheerleading?" Stefan questions after her as Evelyn chuckles shaking her head.

"The uniform is growing on me," Evelyn calls over her shoulder as she walks away heading towards the field where everyone was practicing. 

Suddenly a 1969 Chevy Camaro Convertible pulls up and one of the cheerleaders on the team gets out kissing the one driving in classic car.

"Who is that?" Caroline asks making Evelyn jump as she looms back towards Caroline and then back towards the car.

"I don't know," Evelyn says as Bonnie and Elena come towards them.

"That's Damon Salvatore," Elena says as the four girls tilt their heads finally seeing the driver who smirks at them.

"Salvatore?" Caroline and Bonnie question as Evelyn and Elena nod.

"Stefan's older brother," Evelyn adds making Caroline and Bonnie look towards her.

"He's staring at you," Caroline whispers to Evelyn who looks towards Damon who smirks at her making her roll her eyes at him as she shoots him a bird. Damon chuckles before he drives away as Evelyn turns around looking towards the girls.

"Practice?" Evelyn questions making the three smile as they nod heading over towards the other girls.

"Let's get started," Caroline claps as everyone gets in formation.

Jenna laughs as Evelyn groans laying her head on the table at the grill.

"It's not funny!" Evelyn groans again making Jenna laugh even harder.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry sweetie I'm just-you pulled a muscle trying to do a hurkle since you tried to try out as a cheerleader when you hated gymnastics. And refused to do it when Miranda begged," Jenna says laughing even harder making Evelyn huff as she throws a napkin at her Mom.

"Caroline forced me!" Evelyn responds before she begins laughing making Jenna laugh with her.

"Mom!" Evelyn responds as Jenna shakes her head making Evelyn begin laughing as the two Sommers just lose themselves in this small moment.

Using her keys Evelyn opens the doors to the front door as she rubs her thigh mumbling about cheerleading being literal hell on earth when she turns her head noticing a living room full of people.

"Uhm-," Evelyn says wide-eyed seeing Elena, Stefan, Bonnie, Damon, and the cheerleader girl she never got the name of all in a tense silence as they stare at Evelyn.

"-you know what I think I forgot something...somewhere," Evelyn says pointing to the door as she spins around to leave and as she opens the door someone grabs her arm spinning her around and pulling her closer to the stairs.

"Where were you?" Elena questions making Evelyn shrug at her.

"I had dinner with Mom after having to go to the doctor," Evelyn says making Elena pull back to look Evelyn up and down.

"What? Why? What happened?" Elena questions as she looks her cousin over making Evelyn slap her hands away.

"I'm fine I just pulled a muscle at practice," Evelyn says making Elena tilt her head as she stares at her.

"Caroline made me try to do that hurkle and I pulled something. It hurt!" Evelyn whispers shouts making Elena stare at her for a moment before she begins laughing making Evelyn look at her in disbelief before slapping her cousin's arm.

"It's not funny. Stop laughing!" Evelyn says making Elena laugh harder as Evelyn huffs at her as she stares at her cousin for a moment before she begins laughing as well. The two are leaning into each other holding the other up as they laugh harder and harder.

"Uhm not to interrupt," Bonnie says coming closer to the two making the two look towards Bonnie who was staring at the two trying not to laugh.

"Sorry Bons," Elena says as Evelyn leans into the girl who shakes her head at the two.

"What are you even laughing at?" Bonnie questions the two as Evelyn shakes her head and Elena begins laughing again.

"Come on you two," Bonnie says pulling the two towards the living room.

Evelyn sits down between Elena and Bonnie with Stefan beside Elena and Damon right across from the strawberry blonde making the girl roll her eyes at him as she scoffs not so quietly.

"Evie," Damon greets making Evelyn glare at him.

"No," Evelyn says in a complete sentence making Damon smirk as Elena hands Evelyn a plate.

"They brought pie. Eat," Elena says making Evelyn stare at her and then scrunching her nose as she looks down at the pie.

"No. It might be poison," Evelyn mutters placing the plate back on the counter making Bonnie chuckle as Stefan smiles at the girl.

"Stefan, I cannot believe that Mr. Tanner let you on the team. Tyler must be seething. But good for you. Go for it," the cheerleader who Bonnie whispers to tell me her name is Lisa says as Evelyn looks towards Stefan.

"You made the team?" Evelyn's questions surprised making Stefan stare at her.

"You were the one who encouraged me to join," Stefan reminds her as Evelyn waves him off.

"Yeah, but I didn't think you would actually get on the team. I just don't want to crush your little heart," Evelyn tells him trying not to laugh as Stefan chuckles shaking his head.

"That's what I always tell him. You have to engage. You can't just sit there and wait for life to come to you. You have to go get it," Damon says making Stefan's chuckles stop as Evelyn scrunches her nose at the man.

"Yeah, Elena and Evelyn weren't so lucky today. It's only because you both missed summer camp. God, I don't know how you're both ever going to learn the routines," Lisa says shaking her head as Elena tenses up and Evelyn stares at her confused.

"I'll work with them. They'll get it," Bonnie says sending the cousins reassuring smiles.

"I guess we can put them in the back," Lisa says absentmindedly as Evelyn leans forward.

"Whatever your name is I didn't know you could control anything. I thought it was up to Caroline. You know the captain. The one who put both of us on the team," Evelyn says with a sweet smile as Lisa just opens her mouth but nothing comes out.

"Thought so," Evelyn says as she leans both with a roll of her eyes.

"You know, you don't seem like the cheerleader type, Evelyn, or even you Elena," Damon says staring at the cousins.

"Oh, it's just 'cause Elena's parents died. Yeah, I mean, they're just totally going through a blah phase. They used to be way more fun. Especially Evelyn, the stories about her. And I say that with complete sensitivity," Lisa says making Elena tense up as Bonnie places a hand on Evelyn to stop her from standing up.

"Bonnie Elena why don't you two take these to the kitchen," Evelyn says handing the plates to the two with a small smile making Elena and Bonnie share a look before taking them.

"I'll be right there," Evelyn says smiling at the two as they walk away and once they round the table Evelyn's smile drops and she turns towards Lis and Damon.

"Get the hell out of my house," Evelyn says in a calm voice as she stares at Lisa who just stares at her wide-eyed as Stefan and Damon watch.

"Evie-," Lisa begins to say with a laugh as Evelyn holds up her hand stopping her.

"Do not call me that," Evelyn tells her as she stares at Lisa who gulps.

"You do not get to come into my house talk about my cousin and my dead aunt and uncle and think you can. Now get out before I throw you out by your fake hair extensions," Evelyn says calmly as Lisa just stares at her.

"-this isn't your house," Lisa says making a smile appear on Evelyn's face as she goes to stand up making Stefan grab her arm as Damon stands up with Lisa.

"Why don't you go wait by the car?" Damon says leading Lisa out as Stefan pulls Evelyn down who huffs.

"I get it now," Stefan says making Evelyn look towards him.

"What?" Evelyn questions with a huff as Stefan smiles at her.

"Why people are so scared of you? I truly thought you were about to jump across the coffee table to get to her," Stefan says as he begins laughing making Evelyn stare at him for a moment before she begins laughing as well.

"I was," Evelyn says laughing even harder making Stefan laugh even harder too shaking his head.

After she finished laughing Evelyn went to relieve Elena and Bonnie. Telling the Bennett good night as Elena went to see Stefan.

As Evelyn leaned down to put a bowl in the dishwasher as someone walked into the kitchen.

"One more," Damon says making Evelyn turn to him as he takes the cup from his hand but it slips out of her hands and Damon quickly catches it putting the glass cup in the top of the dishwasher.

"You're welcome," Damon says making Evelyn scoff at him as she puts another dish in the dishwasher.

"I don't remember ever saying thank you," Evelyn says rolling her eyes as Damon smirks at her.

"You hate me don't you?"  Damon asks with a smirk as he leans against the counter and Evelyn scoffs.

"What makes you say that? Also, when are you leaving?" Evelyn questions making Damon laugh softly at her.

Evelyn rolls her eyes as she puts her hands back in the sink splashing water everywhere some landing on Damon's shirt and some on his face making Evelyn turn to him wide-eyed and immediately begin laughing.

Damon stares at her for a moment before he begins laughing as well and Evelyn hands him a rag still laughing.

"You have a good laugh. And you make Stefan smile, which is something I haven't seen in a very long time," Damon says making Evelyn stop laughing as she shakes her head at him.

"Stop it," Evelyn says making Damon look at her with a smirk on his face as Evelyn dries her hands and turns to Damon all amusement leaving her face.

"What?" Damon questions smirking at her as Evelyn rolls her eyes at him.

"I don't care about whatever competition or hate you and Stefan have for each other. But you aren't going to turn me and Elena against each other as well. You aren't going to put us in the middle of this family drama you too have. If that's your plan you can leave. Now," Evelyn says turning her back to Damon who just watched her.

"Goodnight Evelyn," Damon says as he walks away as Evelyn keeps her back to him the entire time.

"Goodnight," Evelyn whispers under her breath.

The next morning Evelyn stares at the cheerleading uniform laid out on her bed and then stares at the picture on her nightstand. It was a picture of both Evelyn and Elena in the middle with Jenna beside Elena and Miranda beside Evelyn. Elena was holding on the phone and smiling brightly as Evelyn leaned into her smiling just as happily as her.

It was taken last summer as the lake house. The four of them had a girls' day while Jermey and Grayson fished out on the lake.

The summer before everything fell apart.

With a sigh, Evelyn made a choice as she began getting dressed and once she made a decision Evelyn walked down the stairs and towards the kitchen.

Heading towards the fridge Evelyn opens the freezer and opens up the carton of ice cream. Grabbing a spoon Evelyn takes a bite of the spoonful of the chocolate goodness.

"You're not doing it either?" Elena questions coming into the kitchen making Evelyn turn to her and hand Elena the spoon as the two lean against the island.

"No. You too?" Evelyn questions staring at Elena who nods as Evelyn grabs another spoon. Elena smiles at her as they clink spoons before going back into the ice cream.

"Caroline is going to kill us," Elena says making Evelyn laugh as she nods.

"Oh definitely," Evelyn says as the two look towards each other and begin laughing as they shake their head eating another spoonful.

At the high school, Elena and Evelyn stand beside each other as Tanner begins his speech after the two were given a "talk" from Caroline regarding their choice in cheerleading.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait. Let's be honest here. In the past, we used to let other teams come into our town and roll right over us!" Tanner yells as boos were heard from the crowd as Evelyn and Elena laugh shaking their heads.

"But that is about to change," Tanner says as everyone cheers.

"We've got some great new talent tonight starting on the offense, and I'm gonna tell you right now, it has been a long time since I have seen a kid like this with hands like these. Let's give it up for Stefan Salvatore!" Tanner yells as everyone cheers loudly and Stefan's cheeks turn red.

"That has been waiting for us to put a check in the win column, I have only one thing to say to you...Your Timberwolves are hungry," Tanner yells out.

"Did you hear that?" Evelyn questions Elena who looks towards her and then nods making the two turn and walk away towards the back of the crowd only to watch Tyler punch Jeremy in the face.

"Tyler! Jeremy!" Evelyn calls out just as Stefan grabs Tyler's wrist.

"Hey, he's down! Enough!" Stefan tells Tyler who turns and punches Stefan, but sees that it has no effect on Stefan and begins to look scared.

"Jeremy no!" Evelyn calls out as Jeremy grabs a broken glass bottle and strikes at Tyler, who moves out of the way just as Evelyn was heading towards him making Jeremy cut Evelyn's hand instead.

"Jeremy, no!" Elena yells as Evelyn looks down at her bleeding hand.

"Tyler, knock it off! Stop!" Matt yells as he pulls Tyler back who stares at his baby cousin in horror.

"What the hell, Jeremy? Put your head up, you're bleeding," Elena yells as Jeremy tries to push her away.

"I'm fine!" Jermey tells her as Elena scoffs.
"Yeah, you smell fine," Elena says shaking her head.

"Just stop, ok?" Jeremy says looking out at Evelyn who was just in disbelief.

"Evie?" Stefan calls making her turn to him wide-eyed and a bit dizzy.

"I don't like blood," Evelyn tells Stefan who looks down at her hand and heads towards her.

"Let me see," Stefan says as he looks at Evelyn's hand who winces.

"Oh, my God, your hand," Elena exclaims heading towards her cousin. Elena looks at it as Stefan takes a napkin someone handed him.

"Is it deep? How bad is it?" Elena questions as Stefan looks at the cut.

"I think it just nicked her. I don't think you need stitches," Stefan says making Evelyn nod as Jermey and Tyler stand behind her.

"Is she okay?" Tyler questions making Elena glare at the two.

"No! She's bleeding," Elena retorts angrily as Evelyn sighs taking the napkin from Stefan pressing it into her hand.

"I have a first aid kit in my car. You should go. All of you. It's almost kick-off time, I'll see you after the game," Evelyn says shaking her head as she walks away as the group watches her go.

"Oh come on," Evelyn says holding her hand out of her car as she tries to open up the first aid kit and not get blood in her car.

"Need some help?" An amused voice questions making Evelyn jump and hit her head on the truck.

"Ouch!" Evelyn says as she goes to rub her head with her injured hand making her wince again as she turns to the amused voice.

"Don't you have other things to do than be a creep and hide in all the shadows?" Evelyn questions annoyed as she stares at Damon who smirks at her.

Evelyn rolls her eyes as she goes back to trying to open the first aid kit.

Damon watches her before reaching and opening the kit for her as Evelyn shakes her head.

"I had it," Evelyn mutters as she begins looking for alcohol wipes and some gauze.

"Need some help?" Damon's questions amused making Evelyn roll her eyes.

"Not from you," Evelyn tells him as she tries to open the alcohol wipes with one hand. Damon watches her as Evelyn huffs and hands it towards him.

Damon sits down beside the strawberry blonde in the truck of the car as he opens up the wipe and pulls it out before grabbing Evelyn's hand.

"I can do it," Evelyn says making Damon hum as he nods.

"I know," Damon says as he Evelyn winces as he cleans the blood off her hand. Once it is all cleaned up Damon leans closer and begins blowing on it before grabbing some Neosporin and a bandaid.

"Thank you," Evelyn mutters as Damon finishes up and up at the strawberry blonde for a moment before standing up.

"Evie," Damon says nodding as he walks away. Evelyn just sits there watching not knowing what to say or even do.

After the stranger encounter Evelyn decided to just leave the game and head home and take a shower. Dressed in her pajamas with a towel in her hand as she dries her hair.

"Are you okay?" A voice questions making Evelyn jump as she looks to see Jeremy sitting on her bed with his head down.

"I'm fine. It's just a small cut," Evelyn tells Jermey who nods still not looking up.

"It was my fault Jer, not yours. I jumped in front of Tyler and shouldn't have gotten in the middle," Evelyn says as she walks towards the end of the bed and sits down.

"You okay?" Evelyn questions hitting Jermey's shoulder who shrugs at her.

"Jermey," Evelyn says softly as he shakes his head making Evelyn turn to her and pull Jeremy towards her who immediately crumbles as Evelyn cradles him to her.

"Shush it's okay Jer. You're going to be okay," Evelyn whispers to him as Jermey just sobs clinging to her making Evelyn shush him as she kisses his head repeatedly.

With a book in her hands, Evelyn lay in her bed with Jeremy asleep beside her as her bedroom door was opened.

Evelyn looks up towards her door only to see Elena standing there with red eyes.

"What's wrong?" Evelyn questions as she pulls back her comforter making Elena rush towards it and immediately lie down beside her cousin.

"Tanner's dead. Something killed him," Elena says making Evelyn sigh as she pulls her to her.

"It was in the middle of town. What would do that?" Elena questions making Evelyn begin to run her finger through her hair.

"A monster," Evelyn says making Elena nod as she holds Evelyn tightly to her.

Not knowing that at this very moment a monster was listening to it all.
