1.3 | The Seánce

A storm raged outside the Addams' home as Gomez and Morticia stood in the doorway. "It's a miserable night," Gomez said fondly. "I know, darling. Seánce weather," Morticia replied to him with a sigh of delight before turning towards the roof, "Children, we're starting. Put that antenna down." Wednesday and Pugsley were holding an antenna in the rain, laughing, hoping to get struck by lightening however, their parents interruption ruined their entertainment. They headed back into the home and Wednesday ran his fingers through his wet hair, his suit began to dry the moment he stepped back into the warm household.
Outside, a car pulled up to the Addams home and out stepped Tully, Margaret and Lillith. The teenager looked up at the home with a smile, she admired the shadows that lurked over the place along with the comfort that seemed to surround her. "Well, let's get this over with," Margaret spoke with an sigh of irritation, she had not been informed of the plan that Tully had devised with Abigail and Gordon. Lillith had limited knowledge herself, all she was told was that she had to stay with Fester and keep the family off of his back. If she was successful, her grandmother would sign the emancipation papers that would allow the seventeen year old early access to her inheritance; her escape from Abigail Craven.
"You go on ahead, I need to talk to my darling niece, Lillith," Tully said to Margaret who frowned slightly, when they had picked the teenager up, she had been stunned to learn about Tully's "niece" that she had not previously met. Though the girls kindness was something that Margaret adored, she was a great conversationalist and extremely polite too. Once Margaret left the two, Tully turned his head to the seventeen year old who looked up at him in boredom. "Okay, kid, remember the plan? If anyone asks, you're my niece and when Gordon and Mrs Craven show up, they're gonna pretend to be Fester and Dr Pinder-Schloss; no questions asked!" Tully expressed to her.
"Yeah, sure," Lillith replied, she just wanted to get this over with so she could get the money and run away from Abigail and her controlling ways. "Good. Be on your best behaviour," Tully warned her before they made their way towards the home, Lillith looked towards the graveyard and smiled at the sight of different gravestones leaving her curious. Perhaps during her stay, she could learn more about this comforting place. She had been so distracted by the graveyard that she had trailed behind Tully and Margaret out of view of the others standing within the foyer of the home.
Tully helped his wife with her coat, his attention turned to Wednesday who stood staring with a blank expression on his face. "Big night for you guys, eh, chief?" Tully questioned the boy who simply blinked his way with no words shared. "Hello, sweetheart," Margaret greeted before holding up her hand, "Could you?" Wednesday stepped forward and removed the family's finger trap from her slender fingers. "Oh, thank God," Margaret breathed out, she had been trapped all day. "Welcome, honoured guests," Morticia greeted as she walked down the stairs, her movements so fluid it looked as though she had glided down them.
The front door opened to reveal Lillith who was looking down with a slight frown, she hadn't wanted to dirty the floors as that was very disrespectful to do so. "And who is this?" Morticia asked Tully and Margaret. "Oh, this is our niece, Lillith. Her grandmother is out of town and I volunteered to watch over her," Tully answered the woman with the cover they had made. "Apologies for the wet floors," Lillith spoke as she looked up letting her wet hair fall out of her face, she smiled warmly towards Morticia. Lillith admired the woman as the lights seemed to surround her, the dark colour of her clothes were a relief to witness compared to the bright colour of her grandmother's clothing.
"It's not a problem, dear," Morticia assured the teen who nodded as the woman continued, "So glad you could join us. This is my eldest son, Wednesday." Lillith turned her eyes from Morticia to Wednesday, her bright blue eyes locked with his dark eyes that seemed to darken, it felt as though she was looking into a void but rather than feeling dread, she felt more alive than ever. Wednesday felt a strange warmth through him as he looked into the girls eyes, the bright colour would usually be too much for the boy but something about it was so captivating to him that he was certain that blue was his new favourite colour.
"Hello, Wednesday. I'm Lillith," Lillith introduced politely, she held out her hand to Wednesday for him to grasp in his own. Wednesday was silent as he looked from her eyes to her hand, he reached out cautiously before taking her hand in his own. The warmth of her hand was a welcoming feeling to his natural cold skin, however, the tingle that seared through his body caused him to withdraw his hand. Lillith tilted her head, she felt a strange tingle through her arm but nothing like the shock that Wednesday himself had felt. "Well, seen as everyone is here, let's get started," Morticia spoke with a devious smirk having witnessed the zing between the teens.
Lillith moved to remove her raincoat when she felt someone step up behind her and assist her in removing the heavy coat. She looked over her shoulder and once again, she found herself looking back into the comforting void. "Thank you, Wednesday," Lillith said to him politely, he stared a her a moment longer before passing the coat off to Lurch. He slightly motioned his head, Lillith understood instantly and walked ahead of him towards the direction that everyone else had gone. Wednesday, walking behind Lillith, had done a once over on the teen who wore high-waisted black jeans, a red and black striped sweater and some leather boots.

In the seánce room, Lurch was playing the organ as everyone sat around the table; Lillith sat between Morticia and Wednesday. "Sing, O' spirits. Harken all souls. Every year on this date, we offer a clarion call to Fester Addams," Morticia recited in an elegant tone. Pugsley, who was on Wednesday's right, slowly raised a cleaver intending to harm his older brother. "Stop it," Wednesday commanded, the deep rasp of his tone had echoed through Lillith's head hearing his voice for the first time. She shivered slightly as a distant feeling in her body seemed to desire the sound again. "Pugsley," Gomez playfully scolded, he reached his hand out for the cleaver.
Puglsey giggled and handed it over, Lillith smirked slightly at the sight as she could remember the time her grandmother caught her with a machete, the woman had taken the weapon away from her and punished her with no food for two days. "Kids," Gomez chuckled while Tully and Margaret looked at the man with wide eyes. "From generations to generations, our beacon to the beyond. All close eyes and join hands," Morticia closed her eyes and took Lillith's hand in hers. Lillith held her hand out to Wednesday, the boy glanced at it before looking away, he then slowly interlaced their fingers together.
Wednesday had only held one other girls hand back when he was only six years old, she had been the only girl he had a crush on but she had rejected him claiming he was just a freak. Holding Lillith's hand was nothing like that girl, it was warm and comforting in a way that he usually only felt when he was in his room reading one of his many favourite books. And for Lillith, she felt something other than the numb presence she had dealt with since the day she had lost her parents. Despite his hand feeling cold against her own, it was a cold she felt comforted by.
Across the table, Margaret grabbed Grandmama's hand in hers. "Ow! What a grip! Ow!" Grandmama cried out and slipped her arm away but her hand was still in Margaret's grip, "Oh, my hand! She's got my hand!" Margaret shrieked and attempted to shake Thing out of her grip, the mystery hand held on tight. Lillith watched in awe as she chuckled softly, the sight was greatly amusing and she had never seen something as crazy as this before. Wednesday, hearing her sweet chuckle, looked towards her with a raised eyebrow as he had been so used to the intolerable screams and shrieks upon the reveal of Thing but not Lillith, she was definitely amused.
Finally shrugging off the appendage, Margaret was wide eyed and clearly uncomfortable. "Okay, pumpkin, sit down. Join the fun," Tully said when Margaret moved to leave, he pulled her back and encouraged her to sit down. "Mama, you should know better," Morticia softly scolded her mother before turning to the hand, "Thing, you're a handful." Thing bowed slightly before crawling across the table until he stopped in front of Lillith who smiled and leaned down to the hand. "Pleasure to meet you, Thing," Lillith spoke before she placed a gentle kiss on Things thumb knuckle, the hand tinged red from his blush before he scurried away.
"Wednesday," Morticia had smiled at the kindness of the girl. "Let us ransom you from the power of the grave. Tonight, O' death, let us be your plague," Wednesday continued for his mother. "Mama," Morticia passed the seánce lead to Grandmama who spoke, "Fester Addams, ceoli couris, ferimani bo. . . I feel that he is near. Fester Addams, gather your strength and knock three times." For a moment, it was silent until three loud bangs sounded through the air, startling Lillith who hadn't been expecting it which made Wednesday smirk at her as the girl tightened her grip on his hand. "Sorry," Lillith whispered as she went to loosen her hold, Wednesday mistaken it for her letting go and tightening his own grip.
"Did you hear that?" Grandmama questioned the others. "Ask again, mama, quickly!" Morticia pleaded with a smile on her face. "By all means," Tully commented. "Ask, ask!" Gomez encouraged. "Fester Addams, I demand that you knock again," Grandmama demanded and once again, three loud knocks echoed throughout the large home. Gomez stood up from his seat, "He's at the door!" Thing immediately rushed out of the room and scurried to the front door. Once he reached it, he pulled it open to reveal Fester Addams standing there looking the same he had when he left all those years ago.

The whole family had rushed to the front door to see if it was truly Fester Addams standing there. Wednesday had trailed behind his family, unknowingly, he still held Lillith's hand tight within his own. "Fester?" Gomez whispered standing before his brother. "Gomez," Fester replied before Gomez walked up to his older brother and embraced him in a tight hug, kissing his cheek. It was then that Wednesday noticed that he was still holding Lillith's hand, his eyes trailed up her arm until he was making eye contact with her. Lillith stared back at him, she swallowed slowly as they slowly released each other's hands. Both were already missing the contact, a million questions burning through their minds.
From behind the brothers, Abigail Craven stepped forward looking more professional than she usually did. The sight of her prompted Lillith to move away from Wednesday and towards Tully and Margaret who had been watching from the doorway. Wednesday's frowned deepend as Lillith stepped away, her warmth replaced by cold. "Good evening," Abigail greeted with a German accent, "I am Doctor Pinder-Schloss." Lillith subtly rolled her eyes hearing the terrible accent, she couldn't believe that she had to be a part of this plan just so she could be free from her grandmother's control.

Everyone was now seated in the living room as Dr Pinder-Schloss explained Fester's story in her accent, "He was found in Miami, tangled in a tuna net. It was just last month during hurricane Helga. The sky was black like pitch, the waves. . . they were walls of doom. Can you imagine? They drag him from the ocean, from the very jaws of oblivion, I'm telling you. There were tests, so many tests. A complete psychological profile. At long last, the Florida Department of the Fish and the Game, they say, lo and behold, oh my, go tell it to the mountains, he is your brother!" Lillith was stunned by her grandmother's story, she couldn't believe that this was the plan the old bat had.
"Boom! They give hum to me at Human Services, and I am bringing him, after all these years, after who knows what heartache, after the naked and the dead, I am bringing him home to you," Dr Pinder-Schloss finished off making Lillith bite back a scoff and a laugh, she was actually embarrassed by the woman's faux character. "That's preposterous!" Margaret chimed in from where she sat beside Tully, "Isn't that the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard?" Lillith mentally agreed with the older woman but she had a feeling that Gomez would fall for it, not because he was a moron but because he missed his brother.
"It certainly is," Gomez spoke with a wide smile on his face, "Now you're back!" Tully smiled as well, "Yes, back. Back to share your joys, your sorrows. Hey, everything." Margaret looked from Fester to her husband, "Well, I just don't know." Tully distracted her by holding up the finger trap, "How does this work again?" Margaret scoffed at him, "An infant would understand." However, she had accidentally gotten her finger stuck once again. "Fester Addams. Home at last," Morticia spoke, she was delighted to have her brother-in-law back home with the family. "Well, at least for a week," Fester corrected quickly.
"A week? Don't be ridiculous. You're home," Gomez insisted. "Sorry, but I have to get back. Got a lot of things cooking up in the Bermuda Triangle," Fester replied to his brother with a small smile. "Oh, Gomez. The Bermuda Triangle," Morticia spoke with a fond gaze directed at her husband. "Devil's Island," Gomez smirked her way. "The Black Hole of Calcutta," Morticia said seductively. "Excuse us," Gomez started kissing his wife's hands. "Second honeymoon," Morticia explained to Dr Pinder-Schloss. Lillith smiled fondly at the romance between Morticia and Gomez, she had only ever wanted a love like that; a love like her parents. Wednesday took notice of it, he smiled slightly to himself seeing the look of envy and adoration of Lillith's face.
