044 | Time Travel?

"Barry? Haylee?" Cisco's voice came through the comms as Barry and Haylee walked over to the impact crater. "Barry, what happened out there?" Dr Wells asked as Haylee frowned with glassy eyes as she looked down at the crater. "We're okay," Barry told them as he rested his hand on Haylee's shoulder. "Oh, God. The nuclear explosion. There's no telling how much radiation they were exposed to," Caitlin exclaimed before looking to the screens. "Wait, the Geiger counter in their suits... it's reading less than one milliard," Caitlin told them. "But that's normal," Haylee told them.

"There's no radiation," Dr Wells told them, Haylee grabbed Barry's hand and dragged him down into the crater. "Did it work? Did you separate them?" Cisco asked as he, Caitlin and Dr Wells leaned in closer. "I don't know," Barry replied. "Ronnie?" Haylee called as she walked closer to them. "Tell me your name," Haylee told him. "Ronnie Raymond," Ronnie spoke with a smile, Haylee laughed happily before hugging him. "Welcome back, Ronnie," Haylee cheered. "Uh, pardon me," Martin spoke gaining their attention to his torn clothing.

"Obviously, I need a change of clothes," Martin told them as Haylee hugged him, the older man was startled but he hugged her back. "Nice to see you in the flash again, Professor Stein," Barry told the older man as Haylee assisted him out of the crater. "We're coming home, all of us," Barry told the team back at the Cortex. Haylee smiled at Barry who grabbed a hold of Professor Stein, Haylee grabbing Ronnie before they sped back to Star Labs in a flash.

Haylee stood with Barry as Caitlin and Ronnie reunited, the couple had their arms around each other with smiles on their faces. "Ronnie Raymond," Cisco spoke with a smile before the two hugged each other. "I missed you so much, man. I shouldn't have locked you in there," Cisco told Ronnie, guilt flooding his expression. "Hey... don't," Ronnie told Cisco who moved to stand by Haylee and Barry. "Welcome back, Mr Raymond," Dr Wells spoke before shaking Ronnie's hand. "Dr Wells. Caitlin told me what happened to you. I'm so sorry," Ronnie told him.

"I'm responsible for putting myself in this chair. You are responsible for my still being alive... thank you," Dr Wells said with a small smile. "You said you'd bring him back, and you did. Thank you," Caitlin said to Dr Wells as she linked her arm with Ronnie's. "You're welcome," Dr Wells replied. "Excuse me? Are we all planning to sing Kumbaya next?" Martin asked making Haylee chuckle softly. "Professor Stein, I presume," Dr Wells spoke as he looked to the older man.

"Harrison Wells. Do you have somewhere I can freshen up and get a chance of clothes?" Martin asked them. "Of course. Right this way, Professor," Cisco instructed Martin before they made their way out of the room. "So Ronnie... You ready to let Caitlin do some precautionary tests before never letting you out of her sight again?" Haylee asked with a teasing smile that made Dr Wells and Barry laugh. "I'm sure if it gets overbearing, you'll save the day," Ronnie told Haylee who rolled her eyes and walked past them. "You're a hero, it's your job," Ronnie called out.

"I may be powerful but there is no way I'd go up against Caitlin, she is scary when she needs to be," Haylee called back before pulling out her phone. "Hey, Jesse, what's going on?" Haylee asked once she was clear from prying ears. "Remember when you and Cisco made the contraption to catch Reverse-Flash?" Jesse asked her. "Uh, yeah. Why?" Haylee asked him with furrowed brows. "Reverse-Flash got away with the Tachyon device... Which is needed to make a Quantum Splicer that Dr Wells suddenly had..." Jesse explained.

Haylee's breath hitched as those pieces came together, her instincts screamed at her and she needed to be able to supply full evidence for her theory; Harrison Wells has to be Reverse-Flash. "All right. Don't say anything to anyone, that includes Joe. Anyone knowing this could be at risk until we have all the evidence we need," Haylee sternly told her brother. "Okay. You're calling the shots. Also, good work with Firestorm. See you later," Jesse hung up leaving Haylee standing in the corridor trying to understand Harrison Wells' motives.

"Time travel," Dr Wells said in wonder but Haylee couldn't help the sceptical look that flashed through her gaze. "If the last five months have proven anything, it's that anything can exist, but to actually travel through time?" Barry stated with an unsure expression from his spot between Haylee and Cisco. "Well, the greatest minds in human history put their collective genius towards solving that puzzle," Dr wells answered Barry. "So. Is it possible?" Joe asked Harrison.

"Yes, it's possible," Dr Wells answered causing Joe's eyes to widen in response. "But problematic. Assuming you could create the conditions necessary to take that journey... well, that journey would then be fraught with potential pitfalls," Dr Wells explained though Joe was slowly lacking understanding of the explanation. "The Novikov principle of self-consistency, for example," Dr Wells continued. "Wait, the what now?" Joe asked. "If you travel back in time to change something, then you end up being the casual factor of that event," Barry explained.

"Like Terminator," Cisco and Haylee spoke in unison, the two high fived as Joe nodded in better understanding. "Or is time plastic? Is it mutable whereby any changes to the continuum could create an alternate timeline," Dr Wells pondered as Joe looked to Cisco and Haylee. "Back To The Future," The two nerds told him. "Oh... saw that one too," Joe told them as they fist-bumped. "Doc Brown. Tremendous picture," Dr Wells quoted. "Right. So what's the answer?" Joe asked Dr Wells.

"I might be a clever guy, Joe, but if you're asking me to give you a working theory on how to travel through time, I'm afraid I just can't do that," Dr Wells told Joe who nodded while Haylee sighed. "I know who we can talk to about this. I remember doing a thesis on time travel when I did a senior class with Professor Stein where I became listed as his best student," Haylee explained to them. "Ah, yes. I remember the... gossip shared among scientists upon that claim which is why you were so desired by so many companies," Dr Wells told her not noticing the subtle eye roll she sent his smug face.

Barry and Haylee headed to Martin Stein's home, the two were hand in hand as they approached the door, Barry rang the doorbell. "Barry? Haylee?" Clarissa inquired with a slightly concerned expression. "Mrs Stein, I'm sorry to bother you here, but is Professor Stein here right now?" Barry asked her as she smiled softly at the younger couple. "Well, after a year apart, I'm not letting him out of my sight," Clarissa told them. "I'd be the same way, Mrs Stein," Haylee told her as she lightly squeezed Barry's hand.

"Star Labs did quite a few tests on Martin, didn't they... and they said he was fine?" Clarissa asked though there was a worried glint in her eyes. "Yeah. Why, is something wrong?" Barry asked as Haylee furrowed her brows. "He just seems a little different is all," Clarissa told them with a small smile. "Different how?" Haylee asked. "He's been asking for pizza. Martin despises pizza," Clarissa told them. "But Ronnie doesn't..." Haylee whispered enough for Barry to hear her.

"Is that the delivery man? Oh, Mr Allen, Miss Brager. I suppose it's too much to hope you moonlight as a pizza boy. I am famished," Martin exclaimed with a friendly smile. "Okay," Barry shrugged before letting go of Haylee's hand and speeding off in a blur before returning with a pizza in his hands. "Oh, bravo! Please, come in," Martin cheered before the young couple followed the married couple inside the house.

"What can I do for the both of you?" Martin asked as he enjoyed a slice of pizza. "I-I needed to talk to you about a paper that you wrote twenty-five years ago for the Oxford University Press," Barry answered him as Haylee looked around the beautiful home. "I've written many papers for that publication. Could you be more specific about the subject matter?" Martin asked as he looked at the younger couple. "Time travel, Professor," Haylee replied instantly.

Martin put the pizza box down before leading the two into another room where he revealed a board of notes, evidence, information and more in regards to his theories. "These are just a few of the random thoughts I've had on the subject," Martin told them as Haylee looked at the board in awe. "Few?" Barry breathed out with wide eyes. "See, I believe that space-time is a free-flowing highway that intersects the physical world. We live in--in the moments between the on and off-ramps. Theoretically, to travel through time, one merely needs to find a way onto the highway," Martin explained to them.

"Okay, so--so you're saying that this is actually possible to... to travel into the future?" Barry asked him. "Undoubtedly," Martin replied instantly. "What about the past?" Barry asked next as Haylee grabbed his hand. "Yes," Martin told him before gazing off, "My own personal choice would be the Chicago World's Fair, 1893. I--I think Nicola Tesla and I would have some wonderful arguments. What about you?" Martin asked. "Would either of you be interested in taking a trip into history?" Martin asked them both.

"I think I already have. Professor, um..." Barry trailed off as Haylee tightened her grip on his hand in reassurance. "Fifteen years ago, my mom was murdered and we recently discovered some evidence that... I was there that night, and not just as a kid, but as an adult," Barry explained to the scientist who nodded. "That must be a side effect to your incredible speed. In some... future date, you actually move so fast that the resulting kinetic energy buildup smashes a hole in the space-time continuum!" Martin theorized with eyes of wonder.

"I don't believe your abilities work the same, Miss Brager. I believe that you are not... traditionally a speedster who moving at fast speeds may not work the same," Martin told her with a creased brow, the woman smiled at him before they both looked at Barry. "You seem disappointed by the prospect," Martin pointed out due to Barry's frown. "I mean, if I do somehow make it back there to that night, then... it means That I didn't save her. My destiny is to fail," Barry expressed causing the room to deflate.

Haylee noticed Martin's change in demeanour, his face paled as he rested his hand on his chest. "Professor?" Haylee asked as Clarissa approached him. "What's wrong?" Barry asked him. "I don't know, I... I feel terrified. My... my heart is racing," Martin told them before letting out a shaky breath. "I think... I think Ronald is in trouble," Martin explained. "How could you know that?" Barry asked. "Jitters. He needs help," Martin told the two. "Go!" Martin exclaimed before the two meta heroes sped out of the house.

Haylee and Barry showed up in their suits, the two of them worked together to take down the men standing behind General Eiling, blue and yellow lightning flashing within the alleyway. Haylee glitched to stand in front of Ronnie protectively glaring at the man standing there as Barry moved to stand by Ronnie. Eiling pulled a cube from behind his back and activated it before throwing it to the ground in front of Barry, Haylee protected Ronnie as sharp pine needles were inserted into Barry's body causing him to scream out.

Haylee's aura brightened at the sight as Ronnie moved away from the scene. "Stings, doesn't it? Had that one developed especially for you. Micro fragments attracted to kinetic energy," Eiling explained before looking to Haylee as electricity brightened and zapped stronger than before as her anger began to control her power. "Now you... You're new and powerful. I bet we could use you to power the city," Eiling taunted but the Glitch only scoffed before sending a wave of energy at the man which sent him flying back.

A van drove up to them and the door opened. "Get it!" Caitlin screamed out, Ronnie and Haylee grabbed Barry and moved him into the van as Eiling's man stood up. "See you soon Eiling," Haylee warned causing the man to glare at her as the door closed, the van taking off out of the alleyway. "Barr?" Haylee dropped down next to him and carefully began removing the fragments from his arms as they drove to Star Labs, her heart clenching at every scream that left his lips which only fueled her anger towards Eiling.

Author Note
I've never really liked Eiling, he is kinda annoying but Haylee needs someone to take her anger out on, right? lol

Also... I am genuinely shocked by how often I am updating this story. More shocked that the motivation has lasted this long, but I'm {hopefully} not gonna jinx myself and work on the next chapter! Enjoy <3
