031 | The Yellow Blur

"I don't quite understand," Lavera AI spoke as Haylee searched her room desperately throwing clothing and random knick-knacks everything. "What's not to understand?!" Haylee practically shouted as she turned to look at Lavera. "BARRY ASKED ME OUT ON A DATE!?" Haylee screamed out before faceplanting the floor that was now covered in a layer of random clothes. "And?" Lavera asked with furrowed brows, from her readings on dates, it was a good thing.
"AND?!" Haylee glitched to her feet in front of Lavera, "I HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO WEAR?!" Haylee began hyperventilating before falling backwards, glitching halfway to land on her bed with her legs crossed. "I'm being dramatic, aren't I?" Haylee asked Lavera who smiled. "Yes, you are!" Felicity's voice came from the laptop reminding Haylee that she was on facetime. "Help me, Fifi. I have no idea what to wear," Haylee glitched to the seat in front of the laptop.
"You need to relax. I swear you are worse than me," Felicity teased while Diggle and Oliver trained in the background. "You'll look great in anything!" Oliver called out before swiping Diggle's legs making the man land on his back. "Kick spin, Digs!" Haylee called back, smiling as Diggle kicked out his legs as he spun onto his stomach knocking Oliver to the ground. "But seriously, I have no clue what to wear. He didn't specify if we were going somewhere fancy or casual and I don't want to overdress or underdress, you know?" Haylee rambled.
"All right!" Oliver dropped the two metal batons and walked over to the laptop, Haylee leaned back in her seat ignoring the thoughts about how attractive sweaty, shirtless Oliver is. "Go for nice casual, Lee. Or just ask for a hint regarding clothing," Oliver suggested. Haylee let out a slow breath, "It's natural to panic like this, right? I mean... With, uh, Him-" Haylee rolled her eyes in reference to Sebastian, "It was, I don't know, maybe I didn't see it going anywhere."
"Trust me, it's natural to panic when the person you actually like asks you out," Felicity told her in hopes to reassure her and helping her calm down. "Okay... I think I have an idea of what to wear but I'll ask him. Thank you," Haylee smiled as she leaned forward again. "We're always here for you, Lee," Diggle told her with a kind smile. "Also, we loved the gifts!" Felicity added as she held up the necklace Haylee bought her. "I'm glad!" Haylee cheered.
"The new arrows work well too," Oliver told her with a small smile as she let her hair flow over her shoulders, leaning back in her chair with a tired sigh. "Any luck on locating Sebastian Mitchell?" Haylee asked Oliver, the vigilante clenched his jaw. "Nothing so far but he won't be hidden forever," Diggle assured her. "Alright... Well, I should get ready for my date. Miss you all so damn much!" Haylee frowned. "We miss you too," Felicity replied instantly. "Now smile for us," Oliver told her, she complied and smiled softly.
"Love you guys!" Haylee told them, the three repeated the statement before Felicity hung up to let Haylee focus on her date. "I sensed some joy yet jealousy based on Oliver's posture," Lavera pointed out making Haylee sigh. "It will take time for us to fully move on, we've accepted that our paths have taken a fork in the road. He'll be fine once he realises that he's in love with Felicity and he moves past the whole "guys like us don't get the girl" philosophy he has going on," Haylee explained as she began to clean up.
"I guess you have a point," Lavera replied before she assisted Haylee in putting things back into place. "Cisco and I are still working on your AI body but if things go to plan, you'll be wandering around Star Labs in no time," Haylee told Lavera as she grabbed her phone. After sending a quick message to Barry about the style for the night, Haylee headed into her bathroom while Lavera returned to the laptop.
Barry let out a slow breath before knocking on Haylee's door, he had been beyond nervous when he asked her out on a date but when she agreed to it, he had left out a breath of relief. And as the door slowly opened to reveal Haylee in a nice navy blue lace A-line dress with long lace sleeves, it sat just above her knees but she had matched a leather jacket with it and some black ankle boots. She had her hair pinned up in an elegant bun with two loose strands framing her face that had light makeup.
She wore the necklace that Barry had given her along with the necklace that Oliver had given her, the charm hanging just below the Flash and Glitch charm, she wore the bracelet from E.T and another two bracelets rested by it. Barry was in awe of her, his breath hitched as she smiled up at him. "Y-You look beautiful," Barry complimented her, Haylee's cheeks tinted pink as she cleared her throat, "You look beautiful." Barry was wearing a nice grey-blue button-up shirt with some black jeans and his usual sneakers.
"Beautiful?" Barry asked her with an amused smile. "Yep. I said it, can't take it back. So accept it," Haylee told him as she closed the door behind her and stepped closer to Barry. "All right. I'm accepting it," Barry told her before holding out his arm for her. "Shall we?" Barry asked with a smile. "We shall," Haylee linked her arm with his only for him to smirk at her. "Bar-" Haylee's words were cut out by Barry grabbing her waist and speeding off with her.

Haylee's eyes widened as she looked out at the city, Barry had taken her to the highest building in the city where he had set up a picnic and fairy lights with each of their favourite foods which happened to be Big Belly Burger and Mama Harper's - a store not too far from Jitters - infamous chocolate brownies. "This is amazing, Bar. I love it," Haylee told him as he wrapped his arms around her waist, the two of them looking out at the setting sun. "I thought you'd like something simple rather than fancy," Barry whispered into her ear.
"That was a very calculated guess, Barry Allen. A successful thought," Haylee complimented as she turned around in his arms, resting her arms around his shoulders. "I guess you know me better than I thought, huh?" Haylee asked him in a soft voice. "It's one of my best traits," Barry whispered to her as he leaned closer. "You're claiming that as one of your personality traits?" Haylee asked with a small smile. "Sure am," Barry spoke against her lips before pulling back.
"Hungry?" Barry asked as he walked away from her, a teasing smirk on his face as she stood there with her arms out before they dropped to her side. "Game on," Haylee whispered before glitching over to him. The two sat down on the blanket next to each other, they avoided any topics about metahumans, dark pasts or anything that revolved around their busy lives; they simply spoke about themselves and their dreams in the future.
After they had eaten, Barry cleaned up the mess with his speed before grabbing Haylee. They had decided on a moonlit walk by the ocean, the two were laughing and enjoying each other's presence happily. When Barry attempted to pull Haylee into a kiss, she glitched away from him which started a game of "Catch me if you can" - Barry used his speed to try and catch her as she glitched away from him until he finally caught her and pulled her into a passionate kiss.

"The witness described seeing a yellow blur," Joe explained grimly to Team (Glitch) Flash as they all stood around the Cortex in Star Labs the day after Barry and Haylee's date. "Just like the one that killed Barry's mother," Joe added as Haylee grabbed Barry's hand, interlocking their fingers. "Then we need to get cracking and stop this speed psycho," Cisco announced before shoving the end of a candy cane into his mouth before he looked back at everyone, "That- I wasn't trying to give him a name."
Haylee laughed softly at Cisco's minor panic before looking back at Barry who had been chewing on his free hands nail. "The crime scene at Mercury Labs was on a floor with highly secured vaults. And the witness said he was looking for something," Barry explained to the others. "Whatever it was, he wanted it badly enough to kill for it," Harrison sighed out as he looked up at Barry then at Joe. "Doctor, what do you know about this "Mercury Labs"?" Joe asked Harrison.
"Mercury was one of Star Labs' major competitors until... our little setback, and then it catapulted to the forefront, led by-" Harrison pressed a button on the small screen attached to his wheelchair, which pulled up a woman's profile on the larger screen for them all to see, "-Dr Christina McGee, brilliant but egocentric physicist. She also happens to want Haylee as a partner in Mercury Labs." Haylee shrugged as she rested her head on Barry's shoulder, "Still not interested."
"It says here, Dr McGee has secured half a billion dollars in private funding to develop, and I quote, 'prototypes for the technology of the future'," Cisco read out to everyone, Haylee scoffed to herself. "No offence to you, Dr Wells. But the last time we tried the whole "technology of the future" thing, it created metahumans," Haylee pointed out openly, Dr Wells nodded in agreement with a small smile. "Well, I'll be..." Harrison spoke as he looked to the screen, "Tina's messing with tachyons."
Joe's eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he looked to Barry and Haylee for a simpler explanation. "Superluminal particles," Haylee told him but by the look on his face, she assumed that didn't help at all. "So, what could someone do with one of those...?" Joe asked. "Tachyons," Haylee said for him receiving a thank you. "Well, I don't know," Harrison spoke with a frown settling on his lips, "Become invincible. If you could devise a matrix stable enough to harness their power, you could-" He looked to Barry.
"Travel faster than light," Haylee spoke up finishing Harrison's explanation. "He's gonna try to get them again," Barry pointed out, "We need to get what Mercury has and use it as a lure." Haylee let out a slow breath as her fingers lightly traced the bracelet on her wrist, Harrison noticed the action and had a small smile on his face. "He's exactly right. Cisco, Caitlin, Haylee," Dr Wells spoke up towards them, "Start engineering a trap."

"Hey Haylee," Caitlin approached Haylee leaving Cisco to the beginning schematics of their trap for the Yellow Blur. "Yeah?" Haylee looked up at Caitlin as she sat down next to her. "Um, so I was catching up on your blog - which I'm surprised you are still writing - and this story caught my eye... about a man whose head and hands burst into flames?" Caitlin stated. "The burning man?" Haylee asked with a sigh, "I haven't really updated that story in a while, but there are some reports that I could send you."
Caitlin smiled at Haylee, "That'd be great. Thank you." Haylee nodded before looking back at the contraption they were planning. "Also, what exactly is your's and Barry's relationship status right now?" Caitlin asked suddenly. "Uh, well... It was friends who kissed but now, I guess you could say we are dating considering the date we had yesterday but not officially boyfriend and girlfriend... God, I feel like I'm back in high school," Haylee and Caitlin laughed.
"It's good that you two are taking it slow, allowing yourselves to safely fall into a relationship in the middle of this metahuman chaos. It's healthier, you know?" Caitlin told her, Haylee smiled and nodded in agreement. "Yeah. It doesn't feel rushed and... It's helping me realise that those feelings I had for Barry when we were kids were still there, sort of... dormant," Haylee expressed to Caitlin openly.
"Alright, do tell. I need to know about this!" Caitlin cheered before the two got into a deep conversation about their separate childhoods, the two laughed and cried together as they worked on the trap with Cisco, the nickname genius joined their conversation and the three of them spent hours just talking like there was no tomorrow. Haylee felt at ease with them, Caitlin and Cisco were her brother and sister and nothing would ever change that.
