011 | Medical Issues

"You lied to us. How could you not tell us you're experiencing dizzy spells? We're your doctors," Caitlin reprimanded Barry as she walked around him. Barry was sitting on the bed in the Med lab within the Cortex where he was connected to a few machines. "God knows what's going on inside your body. Your cells are in a constant state of flux. You could be experiencing cardiopulmonary failure or a transient ischemic attack," Caitlin warned with a frown.

"Mini stroke," Dr Wells explained to Barry after receiving a confused glance from the speedster who was used to Haylee explaining medical terms. "Probably not," Dr Wells assured him when his eyes widened slightly. "You of people should know that in science, we share. We do not keep secrets," Caitlin spoke sternly before walking away from Barry with the tablet in her hand. "Wow... I haven't seen anyone make her that angry since Ronnie," Cisco pointed out.

Barry looked over to Caitlin before looking back at Cisco, "Ronnie was Caitlin's fiance? The one that died the night of the accelerator explosion?" Cisco nodded solemnly. "Yeah. He is... missed," Dr Wells spoke before letting out a breath. "Now... Let's figure out why this is happening to you," Dr Wells continued before they followed Cisco who had set up a treadmill that would work for Barry, it would allow them to locate the issue.

"You're sure about this, Cisco?" Barry asked him as he hesitantly looked at the treadmill. "Most home treadmills have a maximum speed of about 12 miles per hour. This one has been Cisco'ed. Trust me. It can handle your speed," Cisco explained. Barry stepped up onto the treadmill and began running, the three scientists watched the screens and Barry closely. "Heart rate, blood pressure, nerve conduction all normal," Caitlin spoke up. "For Barry," Dr Wells added.

"Caitlin. Look at the glucose levels," Dr Wells pointed out, Caitlin's eyes widening in realisation as she looked at the screens. After Barry passed out, sending him into the padded wall of cardboard boxes that Cisco had set up, he was sitting on the bed again. "I passed out again?" Barry asked Caitlin. "Total metabolic failure brought on by acute hypoglycemia," Caitlin explained to him. "I'm not eating enough. So an I.V bag and I'm good to go?" Barry asked.

"Try forty. Guess you were thirsty," Cisco pointed out, Barry turned his gaze to the empty bags with wide eyes causing him to nod slightly. "We're gonna need to fashion you a new diet based on your metabolic changes," Caitlin informed him as Cisco nodded along. "I've done a few calculations. You need to consume an amount equal to roughly 850 tacos," Cisco began to explain before his face lit up like a lightbulb went off, "Unless we're talking cheese and guac, which is like a whole other set of equations."

"For Mexican, I recommend Tito's," Another voice caught all four's attention. "On Bruckner Avenue? Best burrito in the city," Joe continued. "Detective West. What brings you to S.T.A.R Labs?" Dr Wells questioned the older man whose attention was on Barry. "When I couldn't find you at your lab, I started doing a little research. Turns out there's been reports of a red streak around the city, stopping muggers, rescuing people from burning buildings," Joe explained.

"You didn't tell him we were working together?" Dr Wells questioned Barry who had a slight glint of guilt in his eyes. "Joe, I can explain," Barry began but Joe shook his head. "You already have a job in law enforcement, Barry. I suggest you get back to it," Joe spoke sternly. "Mm-hmm," Caitlin made a sound of approval gaining Joe's attention. "Don't look at me. I'm on your side," Caitlin defended herself. "Detective, we all want what's best for Barry," Dr Wells spoke up.

"If you wanted what was best for Barry, you'd try to talk him out of this lunacy instead of encouraging him going out there risking his life," Joe replied to Dr Wells. "You saw a man control the weather. What are the police gonna do against someone like that?" Barry questioned. "Since the accelerator explosion we suspect there may be more like him," Barry continued but Joe wasn't having it. "And you're gonna do what? Catch them?" Joe asked noticing the four didn't back down from that.

"Are you insane? You think because you can run real fast that you're invincible? You're not! You're just a kid. My kid," Joe snapped but Barry instantly stepped forward. "I'm not your kid, Joe. And you're not my father. My father's sitting in Iron Heights. Wrongfully convicted. You were wrong about him. And you're wrong about this. Now I may not be able to help him, but if I can save someone from a burning building or stop some armed thieves, I'm gonna do it. And you can't stop me. So don't try," Barry snapped back causing Joe to falter.

Joe was quiet for a moment before nodding slowly, "You think you're so smart. All of you. But you don't know what you don't know. And I hope that you're clever enough to figure it out before somebody gets killed." They were all silent as Joe turned to walk away until his phone buzzed. He pulled it out and saw a message from Eddie, turning his head to Barry who furrowed his brows confused. "Barry... It's Haylee," Joe spoke slowly. Dr Wells, Caitlin and Cisco all faltered at the look on Joe's face but Barry instantly began to panic.

"Seriously, I'm fine. It barely even hurts," Haylee whined as her brother paced back and forth in her hospital room. Jesse had shown up to have dinner with Haylee when he found her passed out in her bathroom with blood flowing like a waterfall from her head. He freaked out at the sight and instantly called for an ambulance before calling Iris, the girl rushed into the hospital and was sitting on the chair by Haylee's bed.

"Haylee!?" Barry's voice caught her attention, she turned her gaze to the door where Barry and Joe walked into the room with Eddie. "I swear, it is not as bad as it looks," Haylee assured them noticing the panic on Joe and Barry's faces. "Not that bad!?" Jesse snapped before taking a deep breath, "Haylee... I found you laying on the floor of your bathroom with blood everywhere and who knows how long-" Haylee shushed him with an annoyed groan.

"I got it, J. But really, it had only been around three minutes," Haylee pointed out before closing her eyes, the brightness of the room was hurting her head. Though Barry's eyes furrowed when the lights in the room dimmed, Haylee opened her eyes as Iris' phone rang and like a sudden switch, the lights brightened again. "I understand, thank you," Iris hung up and smiled softly at Haylee. "I have to go but-" Iris began but Haylee smiled, "-I will call if I need you." Iris smiled before walking out.

Joe rested his hand on Jesse's shoulder to stop his pacing, "Jesse, I'm gonna shoot you if you continue to pace." Jesse nodded at him before sitting where Iris was before she left. Haylee giggled at Joe's words before he walked over to her and kissed the top of her head. "Are you certain you are okay?" Joe asked in need of reassurance. "I promise, I'm okay besides the fact that I can't sleep for a while," Haylee replied with a bright smile.

"As Iris said, if you need anything, just call. Alright?" Joe spoke sternly, Haylee nodding in response before he said a brief goodbye. Eddie left a soft kiss on Haylee's head before leaving the room after Joe, both of them needed at the station leaving Barry and Jesse in the room. "Hey Jesse, can you please get me some coffee? I'm gonna need it if I have to stay awake," Haylee asked her brother sweetly who nodded and headed out.

"Barry..." Haylee spoke noticing the far off look in his eyes. "Yeah?" Barry asked as he walked closer to the bed. "Are you alright? You seem kind of out of it and that's coming from me, I mean... Are you seriously okay?" Haylee asked in a tone he had only heard a few times from her and he knew that she was suspicious of him. "I'm fine," Barry spoke but Haylee shook her head. "Well, I noticed that Joe is mad at you. I noticed the far off look in your eyes that is only there when you think of your dad," Haylee continued.

"I also noticed the way you fiddled with your fingers the other day, the way you looked downcast and the small adorable crease that appeared on your forehead when Iris and Eddie were talking about their secretive relationship and you claimed to be getting used to keeping secrets, so be honest with me Barry... What's going on-" Haylee asked in a serious tone that she knew would get something out of him.

Barry looked down for a moment before moving around the room quickly, slowing down time as he groaned at himself. "You want to know what's happening. I'm fast now," Barry began as he zipped to the right side of Haylee's bed closer to her. "God, I just want to tell you. How I feel," Barry continued as he moved to the left side of the bed. "How you make me feel. But I can't," Barry finished off before moving back to the spot he was standing originally.

"-With you? You know I'm here for you, right?" Haylee finished off. "Here's your coffee," Jesse announced as he walked back into the room saving Barry from having to lie to Haylee's face. The three of them began talking about their childhood and the fun memories they all shared, Jesse noticing the looks of pure adoration that Barry sent Haylee's way when she laughed or spoke about her passion for science and journalism. Even Jesse knew they were good for each other.
