𝟷.𝟺 | Escaping The Drugstore
Upon Lee, Carley and Glenn's return from the motel, the group had become fairly restless and so Lee got to work alongside Hayden to find their way into the pharmacy section for the pills Larry needed. The two men joined Doug in the front section of the store, across the street Lee had spotted the undead remains of his brother trapped under a pole. "That one will have the key," Lee informed the two men. "Are you sure?" Doug questioned him. "Yeah, I found this photo inside," Lee expressed as he held out the torn photo to Doug who nodded. "Whats the plan?" Hayden asked Lee knowing that it was the man's brother.
"Get over there and get the key," Lee answered him as he looked around before using the axe he picked up at the motor inn to break off the lock on the gate. Doug used the remote control Lee gave him and was able to program the controller to the TVs across the street in a store. Hayden reaches out and grabbed a brick before throwing it at the glads window where the static sounds of the the televisions could be heard, allowing the Walkers attention to turn towards it in hopes of finding food. As they were distracted, Lee makes his way over to the body of hus brother; he takes a moment of silence before putting his brother to rest.
With the keys in hand, Lee rushes back over to the other two men as some Walkers took notice of him. They head back into the store and Lee approaches Lily, "I've got the keys." She stood up from beside Larry, "Great! God, you're amazing!" Lee smiled with pride as the two headed through the office and towards the pharmacy door. Lee inserted the key into the lock, unlocking the door before opening it causing an alarm to ring out. "Ah shit..." Lee growls as he and Lily run into the pharmacy and looked through the shelves, Hayden rushed in with a bag and began shoving whatever he could into it as Lily searched for the specific pills she needed for her father.
Panic had ensured within the store, Naya stayed by Clement who held her hand and the two rushed closer to Katjaa and Duck who were also panicked as Walkers pressed against the front doors of the store. "Duck, c'mon baby, time to go," Katjaa told her son as Carley grabbed her gun looking at Naya, "Stay near me until your dad comes." The blonde girl nodded and stood by her. "I'm gonna get the truck pulled up 'round back!" Kenny shouts to everyone. "By my jeep! We'll have the space," Hayden added. "Do it fast! I've got to get my dad out of here!" Lily said frantically. "I don't plan of dilly-dallying!" Kenny shouts at the woman.
"Honey, take Duck into the office and barricade the living hell out of the door behind me," Kenny instructed his wife. She nods and then Kenny turns to Glenn, "Glenn, when you hear me honking in the alley, start getting people out of here." Glenn nodded, "You got it!" Glenn begins to run off prepared to do as Kenny instructed. "Doug, Carley, Hayden and Lee, you guys make sure our defences stay up til then," Kenny ordered, the four of them nodding at his command. "And Lee, I better take that axe in case I run into any of them on the way to my truck," Kenny said and Lee tosses him the axe.
"Guys, that doors not locked anymore," Doug informed the others as the outside gates opened allowing Walkers to approach the door. "Stay with Clement, Moo," Hayden ordered his daughter, she nodded and rushed over to the boy, grabbing his hand in one of her own while pulling out her pocket knife and holding it in the other. Lee, Doug and Hayden held the door shut as Carley stood ready to fire if she needed too, there were a few times a walker busted the door open but the three men were quick to hold the barricade. "Clement! Naya! Can either of you look for something to stick in-between the handles?!" Lee asked them.
The two kids worked fast searching for something when Clement had an idea, he rushed into the office and grabbed the item he had thought of. "I found something!" Clement cheered before holding out the cane that belonged to Lee's father, Lee took it and shoved it between the handle. Doug and Hayden were struggling to hold the window barricades from caving in under the pressure of dead weight. Suddenly, the weight became too much and Lee was quick to help Hayden which unfortunately lead to Doug being pulled through the window and eaten by Walkers. Naya's eyes were wide as she watched, Clement gasped before pulling Naya away from the sight.
"Let's go!" Kenny shouts as he bursts back into the store, Hayden rushed over to Naya and grabbed her hand. "C'mon Moo, it's time to leave," Hayden told her before leading her out into the office and towards the jeep, the girl climbed into the passenger seat and pulled her stuffed cow into her arms. Meanwhile, Lee heard Clement's shriek as a Walker grabbed his leg, the older man runs over and started stomping on the Walkers head until it let go of Clement's ankle. The two make their way towards the back door but as Lee reaches it, Larry stood in the way not allowing Lee through. "You're not coming with us, you son of a bitch!" Larry shouted before punching Lee in the face.
"No!!" Clement screamed as Larry began dragging the boy away from Lee, Hayden looked up to see Larry dragging the boy and rushed over to grab Clement from him. "Where's Lee?" Hayden asked but Larry stayed silent as he approached the truck and climbed into the back with his daughter. "I'll go!" Kenny volunteered while Hayden encouraged Clement to get into the jeep, the boy nodded and climbed in. Naya turned and climbed into the backseat with Clement, they grabbed each other's hands as Hayden got into the car, his fingers tapping on the wheel waiting for Kenny and Lee to come running out of the building.
Inside, Lee shakes his head in a daze when Kenny came in and raises his axe to hit the Walker that had been approaching Lee. "I'm not letting somebody else get eaten today," Kenny said as he holds his hand out to Lee, "Especially a good friend." Lee takes his hand and Kenny pulls him to his feet, the two men run through the back door and towards the cars; Kenny jumping into the driver's side of his truck with Lee jumped into the passenger side of Hayden's jeep. Both cars flew out of the alley and away from the building filled with Walkers, Lee pointed Hayden in the direction of the motor inn with Kenny following them.

At the Motor Inn, Clement and Naya were sitting on the hood of Hayden's jeep as the adults dragged Walker bodies out of the Inn, piling them up away from their potential living quarters. Glenn however, was listening to the radio from his own car focusing on any updates about Atlanta. Duck approached Clement and Naya and began rambling on and on about random things, Naya engaging in the conversation as Clement just listened to the two talk with enthusiasm and happiness despite what they had just witnessed. However, the joy fades once everyone hears screaming and gunshots happening down the road before suddenly stopping.
Lee and Hayden approached Glenn upon noticing the look in his eyes, the two men discussed with him what was happening in Atlanta before the younger of the three decided that he wanted to risk the dangers to find his friends. They wish him well on his travels and Glenn bids them all farewell as he gets into his car and drives away leaving them all behind; no idea if he survives or not. Lee walked over to Kenny, thanking him for saving him back at the Drugstore while Hayden checked on Carley to make sure the woman was alright after what happened to Doug who had saved her.
Lee spotted Clement sitting with Duck and Naya, the two talking while Clement simply listened to them. "Hey, Clem," Lee greeted the boy, the other two kids continued talking allowing Lee and Clement to talk amongst themselves. "I'm sorry, this isn't the best place for you kids," Lee expressed to Clement with a frown. "No, it's not that! I got grabbed again," Clement replied to him with a disappointed frown. "I was there though," Lee assured him. "I fell... and my walkie-talkie broke. Glenn had the other one," Clement inform Lee, his voice full of tears. "Aw, I'm sorry," Lee replied with an apologetic tone, he felt bad for the boy.
"Thanks," Clement whispered before taking in a steadying breath, "I know I need to be tough, I'm just sad. I know it doesn't make any sense but it's how I used to talk to my mom and dad and now they're gone. It's gone." A single tear fell down the boy's face and Lee could have sworn his heart broke a little at the sight, he'd do anything to make things easier for the boy in front of him; a reflection of himself if he was honest. "Maybe we can find another one?" Lee suggested but Clement shook his head as he spoke, "I'll just keep this one, I guess." Lee sent him a sad smile as Larry called him over.
"Let me go deal with this," Lee said to Clement as he stands and goes over to Larry as Naya interrupted Duck to hug Clement. "I'm sorry 'bout your walkie. I'll ask my daddy to see if we could fix it!" Naya encouraged, Clement smiled as he hugged her back. "Thanks, Nala," Clement replied making her giggle. "Did you just call me Nala?" Naya asked as she pulled out of the embrace. "Uh, yeah, like Nala from the Lion King," Clement told her, "It's my favourite movie." Naya grinned at that, "Mine too! You can be Simba!!" Clement smiled wide at that and nodded his head, "I'd like that!" Duck laughed before speaking, "And I'll be Timon!" The other two laughed and agreed.
A sudden noise in the distance caught everyone's attention, a helicopter in the distance made Hayden furrow his brows in concern. "I hope that's the sound of us winning this thing," Kenny shouts. "Me too!" Lily replied to him. "This Motor Inn is pretty damn dependable. We block off the entrances with some cars and keep someone on watch, and we could stay here til the military rolls through," Kenny suggested to the group of adults. "I actually agree with that plan," Lily told him. "Me too," Lee and Hayden agreed.
"We've got beds, we've got water and most importantly, we've got light. There are worse places to call home," Kenny expressed the group with a smile on his face. "Yeah, you're right," Lily said with a relieved smile on her face, "You know guys, I think its going to be okay." And suddenly, the power to the Motor Inn goes off plunging everyone into the darkness of the night. Naya shrieked and Clement pulled her into his arms protectively. "I've got you, Nala. I'll protect you," Clement promised, a promise that would burn as bright as the stars and something he'd hold onto until the very end of his own days; even if he's just a kid.
