โ•ฐโ”ˆโžคโœง.* IN WHICH

Mary MacDonald needs to forget

๊’ฑเฟโ™ก หš.*เณƒ

So that was it then? Everything was gone?

Marlene was dead, Lily and James were dead, Sirius was in Azkaban for killing Peter, Alice and Frank couldn't form coherent sentences, Emmeline had dropped off the face of the Earth, Remus had closed all communication with anyone else and poor baby Harry was god knows where?ย

Was that how the Legacy of The Marauders- no their, all of their Legacy ended?

Just like that?

"I want you to wipe my memory." She told the lady on the counter.

"I'm sorry what?" The Lady asked, looking up at her, baffled.

Mary had stripped her apartment of everything that reminded her of them. She had gathered all their photographs and placed then into a red leather album, sent it to Hagrid because he would know best.

"Just send me to one of the leglimens you've got" Mary instructed the lady, who reluctantly sent her back, a token in hand.

"Hi, can I help you?" asked the Healer, looking confused as to what she was doing in his office.

"Yes, I want to to wipe- no, remove certain people from my memory."

The Healer grimaced. "Rough breakup?"

"No."

He raised a single eyebrow.

"I knew the Potters."

the inkwell clattered out of The Healers hand's shattering on the floor in a burst glass, dark liquid seeping out of it, forming a murky puddle around her feet.

Ink bled into the cotton on her heels as shards of glass made their way into her skin.

"Have a seat."

She carefully instructed The Healer what all she wanted gone. Just them. Just James and Lily and Sirius and Remus and Peter and Frank and Alice and Emmeline. She told him to confound her into not remembering her trip here.

The Healer simply nodded.

"Oblivia-"

Mary stumbled as someone walked past her on the street. What was she doing here? She chuckled to herself at her absentmindedness and decided to drop by the Leaky Cauldron on her way home.

Apparating directly into the bar, she tripped over an upturned chair, falling right into the startled arms of some good person.

"Are you alright miss?" he asked. She looked up and felt an odd rush of affection for him.

"Quite so. I don't believe we've met before?"

"We haven't. Reg Cattermole."

"Mary MacDonald."

[16 years later]

Mary sat under the glare of the toadlike lady in the Wizengamot. she had to keep herself from dropping onto the floor in a stream of tears.

She thought of Masie, Ellie and Alfred, scared, simpering at home. She thought of Reg, supposed to be by her side.

She gasped in shock as a thundering voice yelled "STUPEFY" and the toad fell to the floor. Once more, and Yaxely met the same fate.

"Harry!" yelled Mafalda. Harry? Thought Mary dimly as the dementors surged on her. surely not Harry Potter? For some odd reason The Boy Who Lived's name always seemed to stab her in the gut.

The chilling feeling of the dementors close in on her, as the same booming voice yelled "EXPECTO PATRONUM" and a sure sense of warmth overwhelmed her.

She looked up to see a stag cantering around. Somehow that stabbed her too. Suddenly Runcorn's face appeared before her.

โ€‹"You" she whispered, gazing into his face "But โ€“ but Reg said you were the one who submitted my name for questioning!

โ€‹"Did I" muttered Runcorn, tugging at the chains binding her arms, "Well, I've had a change of heart. Diffindo"ย

ย Nothing happened, the chains continued to dig into her arms.ย

"Hermione, how do I get rid of these chains " he asked. Hermione? who was that?

Mafalda answered with something Mary couldn't make out.

โ€‹"Hermione, we're surrounded by dementors!" Runcorn yelled.

โ€‹"I know that, Harry," once again, she wondered if he were Harry Potter, and once again his name sent a hot blade through her. "but if she wakes up and the locket's gone โ€“ I need to duplicate it โ€“ Geminio. โ€‹There... That should fool her... "

Mafalda came running downstairs. โ€‹"Let's see .๏ฟผ Relashio " The chains clinked and withdrew into the arms of the chairย

Confusion bled through Mary. โ€‹"I don't understand," she whispered.

Runcorn told her to leave, to go home and take her children and run. Mafalda tried to produce a patronus but struggled. Runcorn told her it was the only spell she struggled with. Mary wondered how the two even knew each other. They dragged her out with the other muggleborns, and told them all to run.

That's when Mary spotted Reg. She tried to reach for him, but he was talking to Runcorn. baffled she drew away.

Runcorn, Mafalda, and funnily enough Reginald dragged her and the other Muggleborns into a fireplaces.

"Mary?" shouted a painfully familiar voice.ย

Mary whirled around and saw, "Reg?" She looked to the other Reg.

"FUCK." Not Reg said, as the rest of the Ministry scrambled.

"I don't understand!" she told Not-Reg, who claimed he wasn't her husband and told her to go home.

Not waiting to see what happened, Real Reg grabbed her arm and pulled her into one of the fireplaces. But he wasn't fast enough.

The last thing Mary saw was a flood of memories she had once wiped away release into her brain. She saw James and Lily and Sirius and Remus and Peter and Frank and Alice and Emmeline. She saw who she used to be, and who she could have been.

She saw them all, and then she saw only darkness.

a/n: this was based off a headcanon i've had for a while, the one that i mentioned in the cave chapter, in which Mary MacDonald is actually Mary Cattermole, the woman Harry met in DH, but she didn't recognizeย Harry because she'd had her memory wiped.

honestly, i'm not sure if she actually dies in canon, but i feel like i wanted to add that for โœจangstโœจ lmao

anyway, hope you guys enjoyed that!ย

lots of love from anaย โ™ฅ
