2. the new detective
Here was Jocelyn. A month later, Alex actually helped her get an apartment. Its a decent apartment, 3 rooms, a beautiful view of the city, the kitchen is really nice too. Maybe their mom is right, New York suits her. Look at her, Jocelyn in the big city. Something new, something to experience. She didn't mind at all. Their mother was happy for her, Yessica cried as she said her goodbyes and well as for Issac, it was just another day for him.
Jocelyn still had boxes in her new apartment, Mulder, her French bulldog, following behind. She sat on the floor organizing clothes and shoes. Mulder kept getting in the way, giving her slobbering kisses. She knew it was time to take a break.
"Come here Mulder!" She carried him, cradled him like a baby. He's been her best friend since the divorce, always by her side and such a goofball. "This is our home now. No more moving around. This is ours. All to ourselves. You like that yeah?" She scratched his head. "Good boy." She picked myself up, going upstairs to put away her suits for work, color coordinated. Her room was sorta unpacked, but need to work on it day by day.
Its was already 11 at night, still fixing things in the kitchen and her room. Mulder already is sleeping on his side of the bed. She made her way to the bed, setting her alarm for tomorrow.

Jocelyn woke up earlier than expected. Took Mulder for his walk, made a list for the dog taker and left him some food for the mean time.
"Ill be back before you know it." She tapped his nose. He gave her his famous kisses. She giggled and fell on the floor as he attacked her with more kisses. "Alright Mulder, I got to go, I love you." She got up to get her box for her new desk, head to the door, give him one last look and left.
The car ride was longer than expected and luckily she made it on time. There was a bunch of men and women coming in and out of the precinct. Here goes nothing. Jocelyn asked where Special Victims was, on the sixth floor, and headed to the elevator. She had her box of belongings, struggling to press the button. She look like a complete newbie as she walked into the precinct. Here it is, Special Victims Unit. The crowded room, phones buzzing, smell of coffee, it brought her back.
"Hi! Im looking for Sargent..." Jocelyn looked around for the paper in her bag, trying to juggle her stuff. "Olivia Benson." She smiled at the blonde woman standing in front of her.
"Shes right in there." She points at the office. Of course. Jocelyn gave her a warm smile and knocked on the door before going in.
"Sargent Olivia Benson?" She stands up, taking off her glasses.
"You must be Detective Jocelyn Peña." They shook hands. "Welcome to New York, hope the city is treating you good so far." Jocelyn preferred to step down from her title of Sargent. She felt like she wasn't ready to be one in a new unit so Jocelyn decided to be back in her old role. Maybe down the road she'll get the title back and be one here in SVU, we'll see.
"Thanks, no problem so far. Please, call me Jo, or whatever, I got so many nicknames I just go with the flow now." They both smiled.
"Well, Jo," She leans in as she sticks with a nickname she liked. "your Lieutenant, Ethan Lang, he speaks highly of you. All great things and he actually didn't want to let you go, but said that you'll do good here." Of course he did. "I was looking through your stuff and I gotta say, for an only girl in homicide." She chuckles.
"I take my job seriously. SVU will be a great fit. I wont let you down Sargent."
"Youll fit right in."
"Did Lang tell you about..." Jocelyn shrunk herself, going back to the horror. It took her weeks to finally process and let go what had happened with Nico. "My accident?"
"Yeah he did. Im very sorry to hear that. But you know here, we do get involved with children, men, women. I need to know that you can be okay with that, if you cant handle that, im afraid you are in for the wrong reasons." Jocelyn stood up straight.
"No! Im fine. I can do this. You have my word. It won't get in the way." Olivia smiles at her. Olivia can see good things from her.
"Alright!" She looks at the window behind her. "Your partner is Carisi, he's going to teach you the ropes. He is a new detective, hes been here for a while but hes good, maybe you guys can help each other. But don't get too comfortable, you might switch with Fin or Rollins some days me or Amaro." She understood, shaking her head. "Prefect. Let me introduce you to the squad." They both walked out and all eyes were on Jocelyn. "Everyone, this is our new detective, Jocelyn Peña, make her feel at home, try not to scare her away." She looks at everyone, warning them.
"Hi! You can call me Jo, JP, I don't really care." Jocelyn tries to be polite and respectful. She didn't want these people thinking shes some bitch.
"Amanda Rollins, nice to me ya." She shook hands, it was the same woman that she talked to earlier. She seems nice.
"Nick Amaro." He's Hispanic, she can tell by his voice and well, name.
"Odafin Tutuola, but you can call me Fin." The older man gives her a half smile. Lastly, there was a taller, lanky guy, slick back hair, dressed nice. This must be Carisi, her newly partner. He was on the phone and Jocelyn was just dumbfounded. She felt like in a cartoon when they found someone they fell in love, big heart eyes, tongue out. Rollins hits Carisi's arm, telling him to say hi. He puts down the phone and he stands up.
"Dominick Carisi." He sticks out his hand. her heart started to pound out of her chest as he spoke. "You can call me Sonny." He had this thick accent. She does a thing for accents, but this one, wow, this one takes the cake.
"Jocelyn Peña." They kept shaking hands. She left like she was in high school all over again.
"Jocelyn." He said again. Its a pretty name he thought. He has these nice blue eyes, a beautiful smile. He looks like he's been sculptured by gods or something because she haven't seen anyone this good looking. Jensen wasn't even close. They heard a cough and let go of each other.
"Jocelyn, your desk is in front of Carisi's." Sonny showed her the way and bowed at her desk. She thanked him, sliding into her desk. She felt exposed, it wasn't like the ones back home, their desks had walls, separating from each other, minding their own business, but Sonny can see what shes doing and she can see what he's doing.
"So, Peña, what did you use to do?" Fin walks up with Amanda and Nick.
"Oh, I was in homicide back in LA." She nodded.
"You know, I actually worked in homicide for a couple of years. You got the guts." Sonny says to her, They all seem nice. She can tell that this will work out. He gives her good vibes. "Homicide buddies." He puts out his fist for a fist bump. Jocelyn takes it.
"Homicide? Wow." Nick scuffs.
"I bet you were good at the job." Amanda nudges her.
"Yeah I was. But im here now."
"Why did you leave?" Carisi asks. "If you dont mind me asking."
"Sorry about him, he's the new guy." Nick laughs it off.
"Oh, its fine. I didn't get fired or had a huge scandal, I just..." She takes a deep breath. "Something happened to me back in LA, my lieutenant wanted me to do something new, and heard that you guys needed help."
"Well, sorry for whatever happened to you back home. You're here now, and trust me, you will be fine. Welcome to the squad." Fin smiles and everyone went back to their desk. Jocelyn sets up hers, putting a frame of Mulder and her, who wouldn't put a picture of their best pal. She stuffed her bag in the small drawer, some notebooks and pens as well.
"You're lucky you came today, usually we're busy." Sonny leans closer to the desk to talk to Jocelyn.
"But not a fan of paperwork though." She squinted her eyes. Carisi just chuckles lightly and looks at her before he went back to his papers. There wasn't a lot of talking between the squad, they just kept to themselves. She just did some paperwork for Olivia, resting her chin on her hand as wrote cursively. Time went by fast, and shes just waiting for her to say the word so she can get back home and listen to some music with some wine.
"Alright guys, go home. I'll see you all tomorrow morning." Olivia said as she made her way to the elevator. Home here they go. Everyone had smiled, getting their belongs. Just as Jocelyn was about to get up, her phone rang and it was Yessica.
"Hello?" Her heart started sunk. Why would she call Jocelyn? Was something wrong?
"Hi!" She said so happily. "Question, what time do you get out of work?"
"Uhh..." She didnt like this one bit. What was she up to now? "Im just heading home. Why?" Her end went silent. Jocelyn knew that she did something. "Oh no, what did you do?" She sunk back into her desk chair.
"What! Nothing!" There was silence again. Its just sound of her voice. Shes up to no good. "You got a date tonight at 9, at a bar. I sent you your username and password so you can check him out." Jocelyn's phone vibrated, just got her text.
"What! Yessica!" Jocelyn is going to kill her.
"Its been months! Give it a shot!"
"I hate you." Jocelyn mumbled through the phone.
"I know you love me. Be careful!" She then hangs up. Wonderful. How nice. The four detectives faced Jocelyn as she grabbed her bag, hanging it over her shoulders.
"Hey Peña, Carisi and Rollins and I are going out for drinks, wanna come?" Nick said as they all walked to the elevator.
"Thats nice guys but I can't. Uh maybe next time? I'll buy." She didn't want anyone know about her personal life. She just thought the more they know about her, the more possible things they can use against her. Shes not saying them, but people in general. Shes a very private person, like to keep to herself, maybe with some time she'll start to open up to them. They do seem like nice people.
"I'll hold you to that." Carisi smiles and the three left. Jocelyn stood behind, collecting her thought on how her little sister pulled her into this bullshit. She got to her car still thinking, planning on what to wear. She got to her apartment, sighing throwing her things to the side and running to her room. Clothes were thrown, shoes were flying everywhere. She went with something simple, She means its a bar, she's not gonna show up in a dress, not her style.
Jocelyn was meeting this guy at a bar a few blocks from her place named Rockys. She had a few minutes to herself so she went to sign in that stupid dating app and looked at who shes meeting. Well, his name is Kevin, works for some big company, likes dogs and likes to take walks. God shes crossing her fingers he ain't one of those showoffs asshats that go on and on about how the work in this billions of millions dollars company. She hates them with a passion.
She headed out of her apartment, passing by her neighbors who were just coming back from work or late night study sessions at the library. The streets were filled with people, chatting, smoking. She got to the pack bar, took a seat in a booth and waited and waited. There was music playing, people talking too loud and dancing. She listened to the music, jamming out to it by bopping her head slowly.
"Uh Jocelyn?" She snapped out of it. There was tall brunette man stood in front of her, he had drinks in his hands. "Its Kevin." The dating app, she forgot.
"Right! Yes! Kevin." She played off. He sat down and placed the drinks on the table. "Busy tonight huh?"
"Yeah. So Kevin, what you do for a living? I saw-"
"Oh I'm a accountant for-" he cuts her off. He kept going on and on about his lame job. Jocelyn just blocked him out. Yessina you did such a bad job. She will owe her for this. Kevin kept blabbering and she kept drinking. This had to be the worst.
On the other side of bar was Rollins, Amaro and Carisi. They all were having a good time, laughing. Carisi noticed the familiar brunette across the place. Its was Jocelyn. He noticed that she wasn't having a good time. Sonny wanted to save her.
"Is that Peña?" Rollins pointed out. Amaro turns and looks at her. "Should we save her? She looks miserable." Just as Rollins said that, Peña excuses herself to the bathroom, leaving her date. She went to the bathroom and then comes out, sneaks out and heads to the front. Rollins starts laughing at how jocelyn tried to get away from the date.
Jocelyn was already near her place, reaching in her pocket, grunting as she forgot her phone. She had left it on the table. Oh she messed up. She had to go back and face Kevin again. She sucks it up, storms into the bar again, the three co workers watched as she walked back into the bathroom and wait for about a second and heads back to her date that she intended to leave behind.
"Poor girl." Rollins couldn't stop looking. "At least she tried."
"Lets not say anything to her tomorrow. I bet she's embarrassed." Carisi drinks.
"I thought you snuck out." Kevin laughs. She joined with him with a fake one.
"I would never-." She knocked over the glasses and spilled her drink. Jocelyn held her hands over her mouth. Smooth JP smooth. "Oh my Im so sorry."
"You're good." Kevin cleaned it up. "Its fine." She hid herself with her hands, sighing. "Hey, first dates suck." He knocks his glass over. "They're hard and its just sucks ass." She looked at him, he smiles. She just bursted into a laugh and he joined.
"You're nice."
"You want another round? Maybe ill shut up about my job and we can talk about i don't know, favorite movies or songs." Not bad Kevin Hotchner, not bad.
"Sure." Kevin got up, ordered a few more drinks and they started to talk about moving to New York and how his friends and her sister made their dating profiles. They were up on the tipsy side but it was fun to talk to him. He wasn't as bad.
Carisi couldn't stop looking at the two, laughing. He thought, hey at least she's having a great time now. He liked the way she scrunches her nose and throws her head back as she smiles. He met her for a day and he wanted to make a move. It didn't seem right, seemed too childish to ask her out right away. This isn't college or high school anymore.
"So your sister told you today, she never said anything." Kevin brings back.
"Yeah, she just calls me when I'm at work and tells me that I'm meeting you here at 9." They both laughed. "Shes been wanting me to go out and-"
"Meet new people. I heard that one before." He raised his glass. "We need to get a life Jocelyn." They clinked their glasses together. She looked at her watch. It was already late and she knew that Olivia would have a case for them.
"Im gonna go." She clicked her tongue, drumming on the table.
"Is it what I said? I didn't-"
"No! Its just that its late and I gotta work tomorrow." He nods.
"Well, uh, it was nice meeting you Jocelyn." Kevin wasn't bad and what the hell, go for it.
"Do you want to drop me off?" She bit her nail. She hopes he got the message. Kevins eyes widen and he smirked.
"Uh sure." She reached out ber hand and he took it. He followed Jocelyn like a lost puppy. Rollins wasn't surprised, she actually bet that she and the date would go home with each other by the end of the night. Nick giving Rollins the drink he owed because he really thought Jocelyn would never do such a thing. Carisi on the other hand, he was antsy, nervous that she's going with him, only meeting him for a couple of hours. Its the job making him think of the things that could happen.
Jocelyn and Kevin got to the apartment, already trying to rip their clothes off each other. As they got to her door, Jocelyn kicked off her boots and led him to her room, closing the door behind him. Jocelyn tosses him to the bed and took off her shirt, tossing it away. This wasn't new, Jocelyn never really had time for a relationship when she worked, thats one of the reasons why her and Jensen never worked out, and one night stands were kinda the only option. She never saw it as bad, she was careful and she didn't care what other people say. Jocelyn didn't regret it either. Again, its part of living life.
"Can I be honest for a second?" Jocelyn breathes out as Kevin went down on her. He lifted his head up. "I did try to leave you." Kevin smirks.
"Yeah, I know." Kevin went back and Jocelyn gripped on his hair, rolling her head back. hey, honestly is the best policy.
