16. dodds jr.

Sonny and Jocelyn were going to arrive at Amanda's baby shower late. The timing was a bit behind schedule for them both. They wanted to go together but with him seeing his mother in Staten island and then Jocelyn taking care of Pedro until Alex was done with work, it was until late afternoon when they finally found the time and gone together.

Sonny waited for Jocelyn to get ready, one thing about her as she had been in his life was that she says shes ready but really she just got out of bed and will need almost an hour to get ready. He sat on her couch, watching TV as she scrambled to find something to wear and do her makeup.

He hears the heels hit the wood floor, walking back and forth and then coming close. He turns to see Jocelyn wearing a nice light pink dress, long and flowy. She tucks her hair behind her ear as she gets her purse ready.

"Okay, im ready." She smiles and lets out a little breather. "Wait!" She runs back to grab the present. "Now i am."

"Lets go before Rollins doesn't let us in." They left the apartment and head over to the party. They both walked in, looking for Amanda with their gifts in hand. Olivia turned to see her two detectives arriving. She had to tell Jocelyn the news about the sargent position.

"Dont you look good." Fin said as he sees Jocelyn making her way to him. She raised her shoulders and smiles. "Its weird to see you out of work attire."

"Hey guys, thanks for you coming." Amanda says as she hugs Jocelyn and Sonny.

"Sorry we are late."

"Dont worry about it, you guys are here." Then an older woman walks up to Sonny, ignoring Jocelyn.

"And what is this charming young man?" She ran her hand over his arm.

"Sonny Carisi, ma'am." He shakes her hand Jocelyn bites on her lip, trying not to smile. "Can't forget Jocelyn Peña." Sonny steps away from the spotlight and now gives it to her. "A face that pretty can't be ignored." Jocelyn starts to turn red. In front of Rollins and Fin? He is bold. She elbowed him to pipe it down.

"Hi Ma'am, nice to meet you." She shakes her hand as well. As Rollins mom was focused on Carisi, Jocelyn and Rollins spoke on about where the gifts went and she heads to drop her off at the table.

"Jo, hi." Olivia comes from behind with Noah. Jocelyn smiles and squints.

"Hey!" And she looks at the baby. "Hi mister! Don't you look handsome today." She asked to carry Noah, Liv hands her the baby boy and was trying to put the words together for the detective in front of her. "You look way better than the guys i dated." Liv laughs with them.

"Hey, uh can i speak with you for a second?" Jocelyn doesn't stop smiling. She nods snd lets Liv carry on. "I have word on your possible spot for sargent and i want to say im sorry." Jocelyn's smile faded. But she was top, top 3, again. "Dodds, he wanted that his son to take the spot." Son? Oh of course he chose his son. Jocelyn rocks Noah, trying to not let this get to her. "I really am sorry Jo, i tried to let him realize how good you would be and he just-"

"I guess it's just not meant to be." Jocelyn forced a smile, showing to her lieutenant that it was fine. "I did what I could and well." She just shrugs. Liv was honestly devastated. She really wanted Jocelyn to be one since she transferred. They was Ethan spoke about her. She knew the ropes of taking action, standing in for major things. Thats who Liv wanted. "May his son be a great sargent." Sonny comes up, he had a glass of champagne for Jocelyn.

"Hey Liv." He gave her a smile. "What we talking about?" Jocelyn just smiled again. Smiling through the pain.

"I will you guys to it, i think Mister Noah needs his nap time." Jocelyn hands over the baby back to Liv and she leaves. Jocelyn took the glass from Sonny, chugging it.

"You alright?" He pulls her to him.

"Where did you get these? I need more." She looks around the room.

"How about you tell me?" He stops her from drinking away her problem. "What did Liv say?" Jocelyn sighs, placing the glass down and looks away from him. Embarrassing enough to complain about something to a guy she just started seeing, especially the SAME guy that works with her.

"We have a new sargent." Sonny's eyes widen, smiling at her and then immediately frowning when he saw the look on her face. "Its not me." She grins her teeth.

"Wait what? How come?"

"Dodds." She just shakes. "You know, being shot on my first day of being sargent and Dodds saying no, its a sign that maybe its not meant for me."

"Dont say that." He placed his hand on her arm. "There will be another chance."

"You're right." She knew Sonny meant to say good things but to be honest, the only way for her to get to be a sargent is either move to another unit, wait for this guy to step down. One, she will not be leaving SVU, and two, Dodds son will not be stepping down anytime soon.

Peña pours herself a cup of coffee as she watched Dodds and little Dodds chatting it up in the front. She was a bit salty. She didn't want to pull what Amaro did to her and she isn't that type of person to do that. But again, still salty. Fin sat at the table watching her, watching them.

"Eyeing them won't make him disappear." He finally says, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Im not staring." She finishes her pouring and looks away the window.

"Then im guessing your taking in his beauty or something." Jocelyn scuffs. Fin sets down his papers and looks at her. "Want to talk about it?"

"There's nothing to talk about."

"How you had the spot and Dodds swooped in and gave it to his eldest son, yeah, nothing." Fin really reminded her of Hank. Really. "Ill tell Liv you're riding with me today." He smiles and goes back to his papers.

"Whatever makes you happy Fin." She leaves the room.

"Play nice." He says as the doors closes. Jocelyn sat down at her desk as the Dodds men pass by. Rollins, Carisi and Fin saw the radiation that Jocelyn was giving them. Rollins pointed out how pissed she looked and had every right to be. Its a scary look. A look that none of them wanted her to give them. The couple of times they seen her mad is scary, but yet, they haven't seen her at her worse...

Rollins got a call, new case. Fin and Carisi got to go as Amanda stayed behind. As Sonny went to partner up with Jocelyn, Fin cuts him off.

"Sorry lover boy, she's with me today." Jocelyn gives him a little nod and follows Fin. Ouch.

When Liv and Dodds Jr here arrived, Jocelyn kinda stayed away, avoiding the confrontation between them. Not until shes over it. But she works with the guy, impossible. So when they got back to the station with their suspect, Anton, the guy who was touring with the victim, she finally got to meet this Dodds Jr.

"Hi, we haven't meet yet." He stands by her desk. Jocelyn slowly looks up at the tall man, leaning back at her chair. "Im the new Sargent, Mike Dodds-"

"I know who you are." She says. He quickly chuckles from the awkwardness.

"I pretty much met everyone and you are a very hard person to track down, it's like you are trying to hide from me. You are?" Jocelyn holds in her breath.

"Jocelyn Peña." The look on Mikes face dropped as he realized that this was the woman his dad kicked off to side so he can have this position. He really felt sorry for what his father did, like Liv and the others had said, she deserved it. And Jocelyn knew that he knew.

"Its a pleasure to meet you." He plays. He sticks his hand out for her to shake. Should she be petty and not take it? Or be a mature adult and take it? Mike realizes that she wasn't going to take it, so he closes his hand into a fist and pulls away from her desk. This is going to a tough fight.

As the wild night goes on, finding out Amandas sister Kim was back in the city, behind this mess, thanks to Carisi bringing her up to speed as they stayed with Slice in the ER.

"Poor Rollins." Jocelyn shakes her head. "And Kim's pulling her down."

"Family." They sat in the waiting room. Sonny glances at Jocelyn. "So you met Dodds huh?" She hums. "What you think? I think hes pretty good."

"Can we not talk about him?" She snapped. He just nods. Shes bothered. "Sorry, i shouldn't be mad." She apologizes quickly as she realizes how bitchy she responded.

"No its fine." They sat in silence for awhile. Jocelyn just bit her lip and not said anything after that.

After the whole court hearing, now soon to be trial for Kim, Amanda and her mom were having it in the hall. It was hard not to hear them. The team huddled around the corner was they argued. And as her mom left, Amanda started to pace, to breathe heavily. Something is wrong.

"Amanda?" Jocelyn heads to her. Amanda pinches her nose, walking away.

"Shes leaving now?"

"Yeah." She breathes out. "Yeah. She'll be back. I mean shes a drama queen." She pointed at the door she left in. "Where do you think Kim gets it from?" She starts to cough, wobbling around.

"Okay, Manda, you have to sit down." Jocelyn stands by her side, taking her arm. "Its the stress, so-" Then Amanda falls to Jocelyn's side, making everyone catching her. "We need to take her to the hospital." As Amanda puts a fight, she didn't win as Fin, Liv, Carisi and Peña dragged her out and took her to the hospital.

Jocelyn made it home, after a call from Fin saying that Rollins is fine. Great news and glad that she is doing well. Jocelyn had took a quick shower and sat on her couch watching Tv with some leftovers that Sonny had gave her from his moms house. As she watched, she grabbed her phone and makes a call.

"Hello?" She smiles as she heard Lang's voice on the other end.

"Lieutenant Lang, is this a good time?"

"Ahh Peña." He laughs. "Guys, its Peña!" He shouts to the team of men in front of him in the break room. They all shouted back hellos and traitor, jokingly. "How's the big city treating you?"

"Winter time is not my favorite time here but..." They kept talking about the jobs and how everything was going at their ends. But it was nice to hear them talk since the last they spoke was almost a year and a half ago. Lang and the team went on and on about the cases they got, making her miss that feeling back home.
