vi. bombs and pop tarts
"Do you think he'd like a collar?" Mia asked as she and Stefan walked inside a pet shop.
It had been a month since she left Mystic Falls with the two supernaturals.
If she were being honest, she had actually enjoyed her time with the hybrid. She had only left three times during their trip, and each time Nik had been restless.
It annoyed Stefan greatly. He was always pacing, coming up with theories about her death when she didn't call him back right away.
Two Weeks Earlier
"Nik, I'm a little busy," Mia told him as she punched a man in the throat.
"You didn't answer my call," He said in a nervous tone as he heard gunshots go off in the distance.
"Like I said-" She grunted as a man punched her in the stomach, "I'm a little busy."
He could hear another round of gunshots before Mia yelled, "Suka!"
"Are you alright?" He asked nervously.
"Just a graze. You're beginning to make me think you care," She teased as she stabbed a man in the chest.
"You got blood on my vest! I like this vest!" She shouted at a man as she strangled him with her thighs.
"I told you she was fine," She heard Stefan say on the other line.
Mia grinned as the man went unconscious before she stood, glancing at the bodies that lined the floor. "Have some faith, Niklaus. I just got a new record."
"And what would that be?" The hybrid asked in a curious tone, his nerves slowly disappearing when the gunshots disappeared.
"I took out thirty men in 40 seconds. That's 1.3 seconds per each man," She told him with a grin as she wiped some blood off her chin.
Stefan grabbed the phone out of the blonde man's hand, "And we're both very proud, but please come back soon. I can't deal with his pacing any longer."
Present
The vampire glanced down at the red collar in her hand, "It depends on who gives it to him. If it were me, I'd end up dead. If it were you- If it were you he'd probably wear it."
Mia grinned, Stefan was right, he would wear the collar for her.
She wanted to give the hybrid a gift, partly because his birthday was coming up but also as a thank you.
When he learned how she felt around the sounds of screams and death, he had given her a custom made pair of headphones to drown out the noise.
He had also helped her with her fear of killing people after she confided in him one night due to a nightmare.
"Why are you even getting him a birthday gift? How do you even know his birthday in the first place?"
"I searched it up on our database and then confirmed with Loki. And everyone deserves a gift on their birthday, Stefan, even Nik."
She glanced around the shop before sighing, he wouldn't like any of this.
"Didn't he say he had a lot of stolen art in museums?" Stefan asked as they exited the shop.
Mia's eyes sparkled, "Yes! I'll be back in two days, Stef. Don't tell him where I went."
"I don't think Tony will appreciate you stealing his card again, Mia."
"Who said anything about Tony's money?" She asked with a smirk as she recalled the painting the hybrid missed most.
"Y- You're not-"
She patted his shoulder, "Tell Nik I'm on a mission."

Not even a day later, Mia met the two supernaturals in Chicago.
Had she robbed a museum? Maybe. Did she get the painting? Yes.
But as she liked to say, a win is a win.
She glanced down at her phone as she read the directions Stefan had sent her. Apparently, they were at a bar with a witch.
Mia glanced up at the sign which read 'Gloria's Bar' before entering. She immediately spotted Klaus and Stefan who sat on the bar stools as a witch did a spell.
She smiled at them as she walked over. Klaus immediately pulled her into his arms when she got close enough.
She chuckled as he buried his nose in her neck, "Hi, Nik."
"I missed you, Deyja."
He reluctantly pulled away when Stefan coughed, "Keep it pg, you two," He told them as he embraced the blonde girl.
"How was it?"
She grinned, "I got it."
"Niklaus! Ni- Oh?" A soft feminine voice spoke from behind them.
Mia quickly turned and noticed a beautiful blonde woman and an attractive brunette male.
The boy grinned as he walked towards her, taking her hand in his as he placed a kiss on it, "Kol Mikaelson. What's your name, darling?"
Klaus rolled his eyes, "This is Mia. Before you say anything, shut up."
The two glared at him before looking back at the blonde Avenger. Rebekah smiled softly as she moved closer, "Rebekah. It's nice to meet Nik's only friend."
Mia smiled as she repressed a laugh, "I knew I was your only friend, Nik."
The hybrid rolled his eyes, "I have friends. Stefan's my friend."
Stefan shook his head almost immediately, "Definitely not."
Mia glanced at the two new Mikaelsons before sitting next to Stefan, "Who's the girl?" She asked, pointing to a woman who was chanting across the room.
"Owner of the bar and one of Klaus's witches," He explained. "Are you bleeding?" He asked after a minute.
Mia glanced down. She wasn't. It was the security guard's blood. "No... Collateral damage," She told him with a small smile as she watched the witch pour salt on a table.
Gloria glanced up at the pair, "What are you?" She asked as she watched Mia.
The Avenger glanced at her, "Abominable snowman, but uh, it's more of a winter time thing. You know, seasonal."
Kol smirked at her words. He liked her already.
"Sarcasm isn't appreciated here, honey."
Mia frowned. Witches were bitches, "I'm 144 pounds of pale skin and fragile bone. Sarcasm is my only defence."
Stefan and Klaus smirked at her words. They were the only ones who knew how much of a lie she was telling.
If they didn't know any better, they'd believe her. Her heart hadn't even skipped a beat.
She sighed, breathing out deeply as she jumped off the bar stool. "I'm getting lunch. I'll meet you at your creepy warehouse."
Though Kol and Rebekah wanted to follow her, they were stopped by Klaus.
— — —
"Did you seriously commit grand larceny?" Tony asked through the earpiece she had in her ear.
She grinned as a large pizza was placed in front of her, "Yeah. It was for a good cause though."
"Is that 'good cause' your new boyfriend?" She could practically see his smirk as he asked the question.
"He's not my boyfriend, Tony."
"Sure, kid. Sure. Good thing you were slick though, you don't even show up on the footage."
"I hacked the cameras before I went inside," She told him in a hushed tone before stuffing her face with a large piece of the delicacy.
Tony grinned, "That's my girl."
A bang sounded from his lab before he groaned in pain. Mia chuckled, "Did you hit your hammer against your thumb again?"
"Maybe," He grunted out as he held onto his thumb tightly.
Mia chuckled as she packed up her leftover pizza. She was planning on sharing it with Stefan later that evening.
"I'm gonna head back. I'll talk to you soon?" She asked as she walked out of the pizza parlour, holding Elijah's coat against her tightly.
"Of course, kid."
By the time Mia had gotten back to the warehouse it was dark out. She could smell the blood before she even walked inside.
She sighed as she walked over the body of what appeared to be a sorority girl.
It wasn't until she reached Stefan's body that she got angry. His neck was clearly snapped and his tongue was sticking out, touching the dirt covered floor.
It was almost comical.
"Suka," She muttered under her breath as she lifted the vampire onto one of the couches in the room.
Not even a minute later, the three Originals joined her.
She turned to face them with an annoyed look, "Who killed him?"
Kol and Rebekah immediately pointed at Klaus who had an exasperated look on his face. "Snitches," He muttered as he watched her pull out a gun.
"Love-" He stared only for a bullet to shoot through his shoulder.
"That was for killing my best friend," She told him before shooting him once more in his thigh, "And that... that was for fun."
She smiled as she walked towards him, helping him stand, "I got you something."
He grunted as his wounds healed, "And what would that be, love?"
Mia let him go before running over to the couch and grabbing the painting she had hidden behind it before holding it in front of him. "Happy birthday!"
Kol and Rebekah grinned as they watched their soulmate happily hold up a painting that was half the size of her body.
The hybrid stared at her with wide eyes, "How'd you get this?" He asked as his finger trailed over the brush strokes he had made over 300 years before.
She smiled innocently, "I might have stolen it."
He chuckled softly as he pulled the painting out of her hands and set it on the ground before pulling her into a hug, "Thank you, Deyja."
Her face tinged red at the touch as she wrapped her arms around his waist. "You told me you hadn't celebrated your birthday since you were human. I wanted to make your 1020th special."
Kol glanced at her curiously, "How do you know when we were born, darling?"
"I have friends. Friends much older than you and your siblings," She explained, still holding onto the hybrid who seemed to refuse to let her go.
"Older than us?" Rebekah asked as she glared at her brother. She hadn't even been able to properly introduce herself to Mia and here he was, hogging her.
"She's friends with Thor and Loki," Klaus simply put it as he breathed in her scent.
Kol's eyes widened in interest. He had always loved reading legends about the gods as a child. "Really?"
Mia nodded as she pried herself out of Nik's tight hold, "I can introduce you one day if you'd like. Word of warning, Loki's a bit of a dick and Thor will force feed you pop tarts."
— — —
Mia was passed out in the backseat of a large truck Klaus had stolen. Her head was resting on Kol's thighs while her legs were on Rebekah's.
"I still don't see why we can't just tell her," Rebekah started as she stared down at their sleeping soulmate.
Klaus sighed as he stared at the road, "She hates soulmates, Rebekah. She told me it herself. If we suddenly told her she had four soulmates who also happened to be vampires, I don't think that would go over well."
He glanced back at his siblings through the mirror, "Even Elijah agreed to it."
"And where is Elijah? Oh right, he's stuck in a coffin. How does sweet little Mia feel about that?" Kol asked as he played with the blonde's hair, smiling slightly when she leaned into his touch.
"She- She doesn't know."
Rebekah scoffed, "Why am I not surprised."
Mia groaned, pushing her head further into Kol's legs as she held his hand to cover her eyes from the bright street lights, "Can you all shut the fuck up?"
Kol chuckled at her words. He glanced down at her, her grip on his hand was tight but soft in a way.
"Go back to sleep, darling."
His voice was soft as he spoke to her. It had almost surprised his siblings, they had never seen him look at someone with so much love.
As soon as her heart slowed they began talking once more. "Her life is dangerous enough as it is. She doesn't need distractions," Klaus continued.
"Why is her life so dangerous, Nik?"
"That's her secret to tell."
— — —
While Klaus and Rebekah chose to terrorize Elena and her friends at the high school, Kol had taken the sleeping Mia home.
Before he had left the high school, Klaus had pulled up directions on her watch which looked like something out of a sci-fi movie.
Now, standing in her doorway he sighed as he stared down at her, "Darling?... Darling, you need to wake up."
Mia groaned softly in her sleep as she cuddled further into his chest, "Come in," She whispered, still half asleep.
Kol smiled as he carried her inside. He looked through every door before he found her bedroom. Her room was simple, with plain white bedding and the occasional picture of people he didn't know.
There was no overhead lighting, only Christmas lights and lamps which left the room softly lit. Mia hated harsh lights, she had since she was younger.
"Goodnight, darling," He whispered in her ear after he pulled the covers over her body.
— — —
"She's not going to be awake yet," Klaus warned his siblings as they walked towards Mia's apartment.
Both Kol and Rebekah had insisted on seeing the blonde again. Klaus had already been told off for waking her up too early once before.
Mia Rutherford was very scary when she was angry.
However, when they reached her apartment, they were unpleasantly surprised to find that she wasn't even home.
Unlike his siblings who were stuck outside, Kol casually walked inside.
"She invited you in?" The hybrid asked in a jealous tone. He hadn't been invited in and he had met her much earlier than the others.
"She just likes me more, Nik," Kol answered with a smirk as he glanced at the finger paintings on the fridge. Did Mia have a small child?
Her living room had a case of lego sets as well. His cute nerd, he thought to himself.
He walked over to her kitchen once more and read her calendar, "It says here she has work. Do you know where she works, Nik?"
"You're not going to like it."
The three Mikaelsons had made their way to the high school and immediately heard Mia yelling at a teenage boy.
"Faster, Greenberg!" She yelled as one of the boys slowly ran across the football field before he fell to the ground.
Mia rolled her eyes but walked towards him, "Get your ass up," She told him, her accent thick as she did so.
Greenberg groaned as he stood up, "That's as fast as I can go, coach."
"You're saying you can't run faster than the lifeless corpse of my dead grandmother?" Mia asked sarcastically, causing the younger boy to sigh before starting his laps once more.
Mia grinned triumphantly as she walked back over to the side of the field where she met the three Mikaelsons, "Oh, great. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Good morning, love," Rebekah greeted her with a small hesitant smile. She was still unsure of how to approach the blonde human.
Mia smiled softly at the blonde woman, "Morning, Rebekah... Why are you three here?"
She glanced back at the field and watched as Matt Donovan fell into a puddle of mud. She chuckled as she watched the sight. She really did love her job.
She turned before wiping out the small number 6 on her board before writing 7 which earned confused looks from the Mikaelsons.
"Oh, I keep track of how many times Matt falls. It keeps me entertained."
She turned back and saw the smiles on their faces, "That reminds me. What did you do to Stefan last night? I had to run him over this morning because of how annoying he was acting."
"You can run him over but I can't snap his neck? That hardly seems fair, Deyja," The hybrid teased as he moved closer to her, ignoring his sibling's glares.
"Yes, but I'm his friend. I'm allowed to be a bitch to him. You- Well, you're you."
"You sound so displeased."
"Probably because I am. Can you leave? I'm busy," she asked as she re-tied her ponytail. It had partially fallen out due to her running laps earlier that morning with Stefan after she ran him over.
Kol smirked as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder, "You want us to leave? We just got here, darling."
The Avenger rolled her eyes but let him keep his arm on her. He was oddly warm and the wind was cold.
"Fine. Stay."
She stayed silent, ignoring their eyes that were so obviously on her as she checked her watch. Practice was almost over which meant she could go home soon.
"When does Elijah get back from Paris?" She asked after she dismissed the team.
The three siblings looked at each other awkwardly.
"Three weeks."
"Two months."
"Probably a decade."
Mia stared at them for a second before sighing as she went to pick up the cones. "I'm not even going to ask."
"That'd probably be best, love," Rebekah spoke softly as she handed her one of the fluorescent cones.
— — —
"So you three are just following me everywhere?" Mia asked as she walked inside her apartment, Kol following her while the other two were left outside.
"Pretty much," Kol answered as he held up one of the finger paintings, "Such an artist, darling."
Mia rolled her eyes as she took the picture out of his hands, "I didn't paint it, my brother did."
"You never told me you had a brother," She heard Klaus say from the door.
"Right, you didn't ask. Come in, Rebekah."
Rebekah grinned as she walked inside, ignoring Klaus's grunt. She immediately walked over to the case of lego structures, "What are these?"
Mia smiled, "That's another thing from my brother. We do a lego set every year on our birthdays and just for fun."
Klaus breathed out deeply, "Can I come in, love?"
The Avenger glanced at him before looking at the two vampires, "Should I let him in?"
"No," They spoke in sync earning a glare from their older brother. Mia shrugged, "Sorry, Nik. Two against one."
The hybrid rolled his eyes, "Please?"
Mia smiled, "Fine. Come in."
He smiled triumphantly as he walked inside her home, "Thank you."
The blonde only rolled her eyes but before she could say anything back her phone rang. She glanced down at the name before sighing, "I need to take this. Can you three not listen?"
The three nodded slowly. They were definitely going to listen.
She rolled her eyes once more before walking into the washroom and turning on the tap, "Hey, Thor."
"Woman of Widows! I have come to see you!"
"You're in Mystic Falls?"
"Yes! I am in a field!"
Mia chuckled, for someone so old, he spoke like a child on crack. "I'll come find you," She told him softly before hanging up and walking back out to the living room.
"I gotta go for a little bit. Are you three okay here?"
"Where are you going?" They all asked.
"To pick up a friend. Don't follow me."
Instead of listening they all stood up. She rolled her eyes before walking into her bedroom and coming back out with three pairs of handcuffs.
"I will use these if I need to. So sit your asses down and let me have ten minutes alone."
Kol smirked, "You can handcuff me any day, darling."
Mia chuckled softly, "Yes, but these ones electrocute you."
His smirk never left his face, "I can handle it."
"Don't follow me," She warned them as she put on Elijah's coat before walking out of the apartment.
Kol sighed as he sat back down on her couch, "What do we do now?"
— — —
Mia trudged through a small creek, cursing at how she was getting her favourite shoes dirty before she reached a small opening where Thor sat eating a pop tart.
He happily stood up once she came into his sight before pulling her into a bear hug. "My favourite mortal!"
The girl grinned widely as she held onto his wide shoulders as he lifted her off the ground. "My favourite god!"
"How have you been, sweet Mia? Loki has told me of your adventures with the Original vampires!"
"Really?" Mia asked with wide eyes. She hadn't expected Loki to tell him much of anything. If anything, she just expected Loki to call him a big oaf.
"Yes! Have they told you?"
Mia frowned, "Told me what?"
His blue eyes widened, "Um- About their love of pop tarts! Yes! They love the snack almost as much as I do!"
"What aren't you telling me?"
Thor had never once lied to her, so why was he now?
He looked down at her sadly as he placed her back on the ground, "I can't tell you, dear mortal."
"Why not?" She asked hesitantly, slightly nervous about his answer that had yet to come.
"Because you shouldn't find out from me, little one. You should find out from them."
Mia sighed, "They won't tell me anything though, Thor."
His large hands gripped her shoulders comfortingly, "In due time, young Mia. Now! Why don't you show me this tiny home the Man of Iron has told me all about."
"It's not that tiny," Mia grumbled as she led him back to her car.
The god hardly fit in the sports car but they made it work. Thor's upper body was sticking out of the window while his lower body was strapped in by the seat belt.
"The Man of Iron compared it to a shoebox! I didn't know mortals could live in such conditions."
Mia breathed out as she drove down a side street, her eyes watching for cops as she did so. They would definitely get arrested or fined if they got caught driving with Thor hanging out of the car.
Not long after they arrived at her 'shoebox' as Tony likes to call it. She expected the god to follow her but he didn't.
Instead, Thor was stuck.
Mia laughed loudly at the sight of the god hanging out of the door, flailing around slightly as he attempted to un-stuck himself.
"I can't get out, mortal!"
The blonde girl pulled out her phone and took a quick video before sending it to the official Avenger group chat.
Her phone blew up with notifications, all of the other Avengers making fun of the poor god who had still yet to get out.
"How do I get him out?" She asked after Tony called her through a hologram.
Tony was laughing his ass off, barely able to get out any words. "How- How'd he even get in there?"
"I shoved him in. It was either that or strap him to the roof," She explained as she thought of ways to get the man out.
"What if I blew it up?" She asked suddenly.
"What? The car?"
"No the building. Yeah, the car, dumbass."
Tony sighed, she just had to pick up his sass. "Unless you have a hundred pounds of butter, you better start saying your goodbyes."
Mia sighed as she stared at the car. She loved the car. "Will you get me a new one?"
"You do know you could afford 15 of them, right?"
"Yeah but it's more fun when you buy them."
Tony rolled his eyes through the small blue screen, "Fine."
Thor groaned as he stared at Mia, "How am I getting out?"
She stared at him awkwardly as she fiddled with her rings, "You're bomb proof, right?"
