i. asgardian vodka hits different

"Come on, Salvatore! My grandmother can run faster than that! And she's dead!" Mia yelled as she watched the vampire run across the field.

Stefan rolled his forest-green eyes as he held up his middle finger earning a chuckle from the human.

"Do you want a detention?" She yelled from across the field clearly amused.

The vampire only rolled his eyes as he ran up to her before chucking his sweat towel at her head. Mia quickly dodged it, smirking as she stared up at him, "Too slow, Salvawhore."

The Avenger had been in Mystic Falls for a little over a year now. She left right after the fall of Sokovia. She and Peitro had been close and after seeing him die, she couldn't handle it. So, she packed her bags and moved to Mystic Falls, Virginia.

Mia chose to become a football coach at the local high school. It was an easy job and it kept her busy. It was an added plus that she got to make fun of teenage boys who thought they were better than everyone else.

Sure, she could have lived off of Tony's credit cards, but Mia liked to do things on her own. She hated owing people or being in debt to them. She always had, it's one of the reasons why she never accepted gifts.

Yeah, never accepting gifts did not go over well with her new friend Wanda Maximoff. God, did that woman love giving gifts. They eventually compromised, Wanda would make Mia food and Mia would train her in the many martial arts she knew.

"If you keep calling me that, you'll get fired, Mia," Stefan warned as he sat down on the bench beside her, taking a sip of his water as he did so.

"Do you really think anyone else wants this job? They'd have to deal with dumb and dumber," She spoke as she gestured to Matt and Tyler, the town's local morons.

Stefan chuckled. She was right.

After a few minutes of comfortable silence, he broke it by asking, "Are you coming to the masquerade ball tonight? We could use your expertise to take Katherine down."

Mia shrugged, holding in a laugh as she watched Tyler get tackled by one of his teammates. "I don't know. Peter and I were gonna have a movie night."

"Please?"

He was using his puppy eyes. It was one of her few weaknesses, "Fine. But I don't kill anyone, remember?"

He immediately nodded. He knew how she felt about killing. Ever since she accidentally killed a civilian, she barely even touched her guns. Instead, she used her fists and the occasional tranq dart.

"Will Elena be there?" She asked as she set up a few cones for their running exercises.

"Ric's going to keep her home. It's too dangerous for her to be there," He explained as he handed her one of the fluorescent orange cones. "You think you could let me out of practice early?"

Mia chuckled, "Not a chance."

Mia was lying completely spread out on one of the couches in the boarding house as she talked to Peter through a hologram. Across from her, Damon and Stefan spoke to Alaric about their weapon choices.

The Avenger didn't overly care about their supernatural drama but she liked Stefan so she went along with it. Stefan had saved her from a tomb vampire and since then, they were the best of friends.

"You're cancelling our movie night? For him?" Peter asked, his voice full of sass as he walked through the compound before settling in the communal kitchen.

"Not cancelling, just postponing. Besides, you can hang out with raccoon eyes and magic fingers."

Peter scoffed, "Buck and Wands? He has terrible taste and she will try to braid my hair again. You know how badly that went last time. I'm still trying to grow out my hair!"

"Well you could come here but you'd have to deal with Stefan and Damon."

"On second thought, I'll deal with Wanda pulling out all my hair."

They could hear Stefan scoff from the other side of the room before yelling, "I'm not that bad, Peter!"

"Go back to eating Bambi!" Peter yelled back as he munched on a bowl of fruit loops.

Mia glanced at him curiously, "Did you steal Loki's fruit loops? Dude, he's gonna kill you."

The boy stopped mid-chew, "These were Loki's?"

Stefan chuckled, "I hope he kills you!"

"I hope Mia stakes you!"

The Avenger sighed, "God, you two are insufferable. Tell Tasha to protect you. We all know Loki's scared of her."

"Mama Spider? Yeah, I'm scared of her too. Last night she was cleaning her nails with a knife!"

"I thought everyone did that," Mia pondered as she threw a blanket over her legs. The Salvatores apparently didn't know what electricity was and kept their home below zero for funsies.

"Nope. Just you two."

"And I don't scare you?"

"Oh no, you terrify me. But you're also my only friend so..."

Mia chuckled as she glanced at the time. It was 7 pm. "Mmm better get to bed, Parker. Don't want Aunt May yelling at Tony again."

"I'm not a kid! I don't have a bedtime," He whined which only made Mia laugh, "You're fifteen. You're by definition a kid."

"Yeah, and what are you? 30? You're like a fossil."

"I'm 22 you dick. Goodnight, spider boy."

"Night, slutty widow."

The hologram disappeared as Mia glanced up at the weapons laid out on the dining table, "Which one's mine?"

— — —

The blonde Avenger had been casually walking around the Lockwood estate before she was pulled into a bush.

She held up her fist, ready to punch whoever had grabbed her only to see Elena. "What the fuck, Elena?"

"What's going on, Mia?" The doppelganger demanded, still not letting go of the Avenger's arm.

"Well, everyone realized you were boring and chose to party without you."

Elena glared at her, "Tell me the truth."

Mia shrugged as a smirk made its way onto her face, "I was. You're really fucking boring. Now I'm gonna go get drunk, see you around, doppelwhore."

On her way to the open bar, she stopped by Bonnie and notified her of the doppelganger's presence before making herself a drink with the terrible selection of liquor the Lockwood had put out.

Eventually, she settled on making a jack and coke but instead of it being 1 part coke 2 parts jack, it was entirely jack with a smidge of coke. If she was going to stay here, she needed something strong.

She finishes it off by garnishing it with lemon before she walks back over to Bonnie who stood next to a bleeding Elena.

The witch looked at her, "Thank god. I need you to bandage her up."

Mia scoffed, "Do I look like a nurse?"

"No, but I've seen you fix a broken nose and fix a dislocated arm all in twenty minutes. I'll be back!"

The Avenger sighed before standing next to Elena who held her bleeding arm. "Come on. I have some bandages in my car."

As the two women walked away, Mia snuck a bottle of vodka out of her jacket. Mia had the doppelganger sit on the hood of her car before she poured some of the liquid on her arm, earning a hiss from the brunette.

"You owe me a bottle of vodka," Mia warned as she pulled out a bandage from her car before wrapping it around the wound. "You'll have to get stitches. I have a kit at my apartment."

Elena nodded as she hopped off the hood. She watched as the blonde put away the leftover bandages in her glovebox. Before she could say anything though, a man wrapped his arms around her waist as he pressed a rag to her mouth.

He pulled out a gun from his pants before shooting at Mia's stomach. Walking away, he threw Elena's body into his trunk only to be tackled by the bleeding Avenger.

"Who are you?" She demanded as she held him to the ground ignoring the throbbing pain in her stomach.

He didn't answer her. Instead, he bit into her neck.

She was weak from the bullet wound and with him taking even more of her blood, she passed out.

— — —

When Mia woke up she felt hands pushing down at her stomach. She grunted in pain as she opened her eyes.

"Doppelwhore? What are you doing?" She asked, her vision blurry as she stared at the brunette's blurry figure.

"Trying to stop you from bleeding out," Elena breathed out. She had never liked seeing blood and now her hands were practically dripping in it.

The Avenger sighed as her vision slowly returned to her, "Thank you. You uh you can let go now."

"But you'll bleed out," Elena argued, not wanting the blonde to die because of her. Even if she didn't like her, she didn't want Stefan's best friend to die.

"I won't. Besides, you're holding onto the wrong side. He shot me on the left side, not the right."

Elena glanced down and realized she was right. She was holding onto her non-wounded side.

"Check my pocket. My phone should be in there," Mia spoke as she laid her head down on a dusty, torn pillow.

"They took it when they put us in here."

The blonde sighed, "Did they take my watch too?"

Elena nodded.

"What about the vodka?"

The doppelganger reached her hands into Mia's jacket and successfully pulled out a small flask which earned a small smile. "Pour it on me."

With the blood washed away, Mia moved her hand to her back. The bullet hadn't gone all the way through. "Fuck," She whispered. "You might want to close your eyes, Elena."

The doppelganger did as told and for a few minutes, the only thing she could hear was Mia's grunts of pain and the dreadful sound of Mia's fingers digging around for the bullet. When she heard the metal clink against the floor, she opened her eyes once again.

"Aren't we supposed to fill you with gauze or something?" She asked, her breaths uneven as she stared at the blood.

Mia shook her head. "No. We would do that if it were on my shoulder. If we filled it, it would be pointless. The only thing we can do now is add pressure."

Elena watched as the blonde ripped off a piece of her shirt before holding it against the wound. "How's your arm?" She asked after a few moments.

She really wished she had Bruce with her to patch her up, or Cho. Cho, man she hadn't seen her in a while. Even Tony would be fine, sure he was shit at doing stitches but he could help her better than the others.

She remembered the one time she got shot on the battlefield and Thor gave her a pop tart. Tasted great but she did almost die.

If it weren't for Natasha showing up, she'd have bled out in the middle of nowhere in Serbia.

"It's fine. It stopped bleeding a while ago," Elena answered quietly, absentmindedly holding onto her bandaged arm.

"Did you see the kidnappers? Anyone you know?"

"They're vampires. Old ones too, I think. I've never met them before though. They were talking about some guy named Elijah."

The floor creaked as a woman walked inside the room.

Elena straightened up as she looked toward the woman, "Why are we here?"

"You keep asking me questions like I'm gonna answer them."

"Why won't you?"

"That's another one," The woman spoke as she leaned against a wall.

"You got us, okay? It's not like we can go anywhere. The least you can do is tell us what you want."

"I personally want nothing. I'm just a delivery service. How's your stomach?" She asked, turning her head to face the blonde who was laying on the couch, sweat dripping down her forehead.

Mia looked like death. Probably because she was dying. "Just peachy, Mrs. Fedex. Did your guy really have to shoot me?"

"We all know you wouldn't go down without a fight," The vampire spoke with a smirk.

Elena glanced at the pair in confusion. "Delivery to who? Elijah?"

The vampire glanced back at the brunette, "Two points to the eavesdropper."

"Who is he? Is he a vampire?"

"He's one of the vampires, the Originals."

Mia glanced at her, "What? Like the first vampires?"

The woman nodded, "Precisely. And how do you know about them? Haven't the Salvatores been teaching you your vampire history?"

The Avenger shrugged, "I have old friends. And the Salvatores clearly know nothing. They're both imbeciles."

Elena glanced at the blonde before looking back at the vampire, "You know Stefan and Damon?"

"I know of them. A hundred years back, a friend of mine tried to set me up with Stefan. She said he was one of the good ones. I'm more of a sucker for the bad boys though but I digress."

"Who are the Originals?"

"Trevor and I have been running for 500 years. We're tired, we want it over. We're using you to negotiate ourselves out of an old mess."

"But why us?"

The vampire sighed, "Because you're a Petrova Doppelgänger. You're the key to breaking the curse. And blondie was collateral damage. She'll be Elijah's lunch."

Mia sighed. Perfect. Fucking fantastic. This is exactly how she wanted to spend her Tuesday morning. She should have stayed in New York or even taken up Loki's offer on taking her to Asgard.

"The curse? The sun and the moon curse?"

"Oh, you do know your history. I was beginning to think blondie was the only one with a brain."

Elena scoffed at the woman's comment, "What do you mean I'm the key? The moonstone is what breaks the curse."

"No, the moonstone is what binds the curse. The sacrifice is what breaks it," She answered as she walked over to Mia and glanced at her wound.

"The sacrifice?"

"The blood of the doppelgänger. You're the doppelgänger. Which means, in order to break the curse you're the one who has to die."

Elena stood up, "Tell me more."

A man chuckled as he walked inside the room, "Captivity has made her pushy, eh Rose? What do you want to know, doppelicious?"

"Who were you running from?"

Mia sighed. They had already answered this two times before.

"The Originals," Trevor answered, his eyes on Mia's blood covered hands.

"Yeah, she said that. What does that mean?"

"The first family, the old world. Rose and I pissed them off."

Rose scoffed at his words.

"Correction, I pissed them off, Rose had my back and for over half a millennium, they wanted us dead."

Mia smirked as she stared at him, "What did you do?"

"He made the same mistake countless others did: he trusted Katerina Petrova."

Elena breathed out, "Katherine."

"The one and only, the first Petrova Doppelganger."

They were wrong, even Mia knew that. Clearly, no one reads legends.

"I helped her escape her fate and now I've, sorry, we've been marked ever since," Trevor told them, still not taking his eyes off of Mia. He was hungry and her blood was very tempting.

"Which is why we're not gonna make the same mistake again," Rose spoke before she and Trevor left the room.

The two women stayed silent after that. Elena had moved to sit back on the couch only to hear the sounds of paper rustling beneath her. She quickly sat up before grabbing the paper. A relieved look appeared on her face as she read the note before showing it to Mia.

'Stefan and Damon are coming for you. -B'  The note read. Mia sighed, great, the wonder twins.

— — —

"He's here! This was a mistake," They heard Trevor shout as he ran back into the room where Elena and Mia were.

Rose grabbed onto his arms, "No, I told you I would get us out of this. You have to trust me."

"No! He wants me dead, Rose!" Trevor exclaimed with a frightened look.

"He wants her more."

"I can't do this. You give her to him, he'll have mercy on you but I need to get out of here."

"Hey! What are we?"

Trevor sighed, "We're family, forever."

A knock sounded from the door. Mia sighed as she glanced around the room. This was a shitty place to die. They could have at least put her outside.

"You're scared," Elena mused as she watched the vampires.

Ignoring her, Rose looked at Trevor, "Stay here with them and don't make a sound."

Mia could hear a door squeak open as Rose left the room.

She glanced over at Elena. The girl was shaking. Mia exhaled before pulling off her jacket and setting it on the brunette's shoulders. "If I die, take care of that coat for me. It's my favourite."

Elena nodded slowly as she pulled the black coat tighter around her. It gave her a small amount of comfort.

The Avenger glanced down at her half empty flask before holding it to her lips as she took a long swig. She didn't want to waste any. Who else would drink it?

It was the good stuff too. Straight from Asgard. She almost felt bad when she used it on her wound. Felt like a hate crime.

For her 21st birthday, Thor and Loki had brought her multiple bottles of the special vodka. They had diluted it slightly so she would be able to handle it.

Asgardians were weird but damn was their booze good. She remembered the one time she brought Thor out to lunch and he chucked his empty glass to the floor before yelling "Another!" at the poor waitress.

Long story short, they ended up getting kicked out of the small diner.

Elena glanced over at her, frowning slightly when she saw the girl holding the flask to her mouth as she chugged the glorious liquid. "You're trying to get drunk? Really, Mia?"

The Avenger shrugged, momentarily pulling the flask away, "I'm gonna die. Might as well do it drunk."

The floor creaked once again as Rose and a man entered the room. Mia didn't even justify them with a glance. To be fair, she could barely move at this point. She was focusing all her energy on holding the flask to her mouth.

Elena stood up as the male vampire sped towards them. Elijah, she presumed, almost shoved her out of the way before kneeling in front of Mia. "Hello there."

Mia glanced at him, pulling the now empty flask away from her lips before groggily muttering "Sup."

The vampire chuckled softly, his eyes staring into hers before moving to her stomach. "Who did this to you?" He asked, his voice at least three octaves deeper as he stared at her blood covered shirt.

She hummed, her eyes struggling to stay open, "Some dickhead. People have no manners these days."

He smiled slightly before biting into his wrist and pouring some of his blood into her flask before he handed it to her, "Drink this, Elskan."

She sighed but drank it nonetheless. She didn't feel like dying so she'd deal with the terrible taste.

After drinking the surprisingly good tasting blood, she stared up at him, "What does that mean? You calling me stupid in another language?"

He breathed out, a small smile on his face as he stared at her before shaking his head. He tore his eyes away from her before looking at Elena.

He could hardly smell the doppelganger over the strong scent of Mia's blood. "Human. It's impossible," He said as he glanced at her.

Mia's wound was slowly healing. It felt weird. She had only tasted vampire blood once and it tasted like the one time she got her tongue stuck on a metal pole in the winter time. Elijah's was different though, he tasted sweet.

Maybe it was like how if you drink a lot of pineapple and cranberry juice your cum tastes better? She debated asking him but decided against it. She had only just met him.

Maybe she'd ask Stefan. He had dealt with the majority of her odd and out of context questions.

"We have a long journey ahead of us. We should be going," Elijah spoke as he glanced at Rose.

"Please, don't let him take me," Elena pleaded only to be ignored by everyone.

Elijah glanced at Trevor as he walked towards him, "One last piece of business and we're done."

"I've waited so long for this day, Elijah. I'm truly, very sorry."

The Original smiled, "Oh no, your apologies are not necessary."

"Yes, yes it is. You trusted me with Katerina and I failed you."

"Oh yes, you are the guilty one and Rose aided you because she was loyal to you and that now I honor. Where was your loyalty?"

Trevor was practically on his knees as he begged Elijah for forgiveness. "I beg your forgiveness."

"So granted."

Trevor smiled gratefully only for Elijah to lift his arm and smack his head clean off his body.

Elena and Rose gasped while Mia just stared at his head. She could have done better. He had gotten blood everywhere.

"You...!" Rose trailed off as she stared at the body of her fallen friend.

"Don't, Rose, now that you are free." He walked back over to the couch before helping Mia to her feet. He noticed her torn shirt and quickly pulled off his jacket before wrapping it around her shoulders.

His touch was so gentle she could hardly feel it. She smiled slightly at the gesture. The small act sent his heart racing.

"Come."

Elena shook her head, "No, what about the moonstone?"

Mia sighed, she had to mention it.

"What do you know about the moonstone?" He asked, his eyes moving away from Mia.

"I know that you need it and I know where it is."

When she didn't continue he stared at her, "Yes?"

"I can help you get it."

"Tell me where it is," He demanded only for Elena to shake her head, "It doesn't work that way."

Elijah looked at her, amusement twinkling in his deep brown eyes, "Are you negotiating with me?"

"It's the first I've heard of it," Rose spoke up from behind them.

Elijah stepped away from Mia and stood in front of the doppelganger. His pupils moved oddly as he stared into her eyes. He scoffed after a moment, "What is this vervain doing around your neck?"

His hand came up to rip the necklace from her neck before holding her in place, "Tell me where the moonstone is."

With no other choice, Elena answered, "In the tomb, underneath the church ruins."

"What is it doing there?"

"It's with Katherine."

"Interesting."

A window shattering could be heard from the main entrance, "What is that?" Elijah asked as he moved closer to Mia.

"I don't know," Rose answered shakily.

"Who else is in this house?"

"I don't know."

He grabbed Elena before throwing her into Rose's arms as they walked into the entryway. He set Mia next to a wall, "Stay here. Do not move," He ordered as vampires sped around the room.

"Rose."

The woman shook her head, "I don't know who it is."

"Up here!" Stefan's voice shouted from the floor above. Elijah sped up the stairs only to see no one.

"Down here," Damon spoke from the floor below. They were playing with him and it only pissed him off.

A stake made its way into his hand. He didn't even grunt as he pulled out the small wooden object. He glanced down the stairway only to see Mia, Elena and Rose had disappeared.

Mia stared up into a familiar pair of green eyes. Across from her, Damon held onto Elena and Rose. Stefan sent her a small smile as he held his finger up to his lips.

"Excuse me. To whom it may concern, you're making a great mistake if you think that you can beat me. You can't. Do you hear that?" They heard the Original yell out as he broke a wooden coat rack in half.

"I repeat, you cannot beat me. So I want the girls, I'm gonna count to three or heads will roll. Do we understand each other?"

Elena slowly moved out of Damon's hold before standing at the top of the staircase, "I'll come with you, just please don't my friends, they just wanted to help me out."

"What game are you playing with me?" He asked as he sped towards her only to receive a vervain bomb in the face.

Before he could attack, a stake shot through his chest as Stefan rushed towards him, tackling him down the stairs.

Elijah stood up quickly, about to attack the vampire who was still on the ground only for Damon to stake him in the heart.

Mia sighed as she watched his skin turn grey, Rose running away as they were distracted.

"Just let her go," Elena muttered before Damon could run after her.

The Avenger watched as Elena ran into Stefan's awaiting arms.

She breathed out as she stared at Elijah's dead body before glancing around the room. Rose had taken her phone and put it somewhere. She knew Tony would have her head if she lost this one.

She walked down the stairs, "I'll meet you at home. I gotta find my phone," She told Damon before walking further into the house.

It didn't take her long to find her devices. They had been neatly placed on a stack of books in what used to be the library.

She slipped her phone into her pocket before putting on her watch. As she walked out of the room, she silently sighed as she looked at Elijah's body. It felt wrong leaving him there but it's not like she had a shovel on her.

She stepped over his body before walking out of the house.

"Friday," She stared as she stood out on the open road.

"Yes Mrs. Rutherford?" The robotic voice asked.

"Protocol G-7, please."

"Of course," The AI answered before a motorbike slowly appeared from nanotech. She smiled as she watched the bike appear. It was one of her favourites.

"Oh, and can you tell Peter we're having a movie night tonight? He and I need to have girl talk," Mia asked as she sat comfortably on the bike.

"Mr. Parker has been informed. You have three messages from Mrs. Romanoff and one from Mrs. Maximoff. Would you like to hear them?"

Mia breathed in, the scent of Elijah's cologne filling her nose. Fuck he smelled good, she thought to herself as she did up his coat.

"I'll listen to them when I get home. Can you pull up directions to my apartment?"

"Of course."

A/N

Only Stefan and Damon know that Mia's an Avenger. The rest are clueless :)
