I sat at the dining table, eating the mozzarella in front of me with skepticism, glaring at him the whole time. Mitsugaya had been visiting us for a week already, calmly sipping his tea across from me. I ate another piece of mozzarella, and he suddenly looked at me with his red eyes, which only fueled my glare.
My father, seated to my left, sighed, "Is something on your mind, Miura?"
I glanced sideways at him and leaned back in my chair, crossing my arms over my chest.
"May I ask why our dear guest has stayed so long?"
Mitsugaya grinned and looked at me more intensely. My father placed the napkin on the table.
"He's a valuable guest," he said, smiling at me, but the smile seemed toxic.
A sense of unease began to grow within me, feeling like I couldn't breathe, surrounded by dangerous energy, as if something bad were about to happen.
My grip on my arms tightened as I struggled to regain control. Thankfully, Kaya entered and went to take the plates.
She noticed something was wrong with me and quickly smiled, "Miura, my dear, could you help me for a moment? You know I can't reach that rice in the kitchen."
I was so relieved. I immediately stood up, trembling slightly, and went out with her. I noticed Mitsugaya's gaze. Hopefully, he didn't notice anything.
Once outside, she hugged me and cupped my face in her hands, her eyes filled with concern as she asked, "Miura, sweetheart, what's wrong?"
I took her hand, smiled at her, and kissed her forehead.
"Everything's fine, but thank you for getting me out of there."
Kaya really is like a second mother to me. She's always been there for me in difficult times.
Have I thanked her enough?
I let go of her, hearing her call my name worriedly as I walked away quickly, grateful for the fresh air. I left the estate, leaning against the door and promising myself to buy Kaya a big gift.
My phone rang, and I answered, "Shoki?"
She laughed, "Could you please bring me some cigarettes? My stash is empty, and come visit me right away."
I looked around dumbly, "Cigarettes again?"
She softened her voice, "Pretty please?"
I sighed, "Okay, I'll be at your place in 15 minutes."
I sighed again, hung up, and made my way to the café. He was there again with his stupid grin.
"Miuraaaaaa, long time no see, what do you want?"
I rolled my eyes, "Give me the entire box of cigarette packs."
He blinked a few times, "Wait, since when do you smoke?"
I got annoyed, "Not for me, for Shoko."
He reacted like a turtle again, "Okaaayyy."
He fetched a box that looked like a moving box. I took it and headed toward the medical area. I opened the door and entered her area, surrounded by a laboratory. She was sitting at the table, surrounded by Nanami, Gojo, and Geto.
She spread her arms, "Surprise!"
I chuckled lightly and placed the box on the floor, "Are we having a cigarette party?"
I ignored the fact that just next door was the morgue where, months ago, some of us lay dead. I forced a smile and sat down at the table between Gojo and Geto, opposite Shoko and Nanami.
She lit up a cigarette right away.
Gojo leaned forward on the table to look at me, "Hey, Miura, you look annoyed."
I looked at him, surprised, "What? Why do you think that?"
He grinned, "I know you."
I sighed, "That Mitsugaya is still with us."
His eyes widened, "He's been staying overnight at your place?"
I nodded.
He looked at me seriously, "You're going to stay somewhere else."
Geto nudged me and murmured in my ear, "I don't know how you managed it, but he's jealous..."
I looked at Geto, shocked, almost shouting, "Jealous?"
I covered my mouth with my hand, and Shoko, Nanami, and Geto laughed.
I looked at Gojo, who blushed slightly and cleared his throat, "Yeah, I am."
I looked at him, surprised, "You admit it?"
He raised his eyebrows, and Shoko chimed in from the side, "You still haven't figured it out, huh?"
I looked at her, confused, "Huh, what do you mean?"
Gojo sighed, "Never mind."
I became more interested, "Hey, spill it!"
Geto stuck out his tongue.
Gojo laughed
