Dakota's Point of View

I woke up to my phone going off, text after text.

Private Number: Come to my dorm, let's go to the diner.

So what now? Are we dating or something? I rolled out of bed and got dressed before leaving my dorm. I spotted Nathan's sister in the hallway talking to Dana and Juliet.

"Oh hey Dakota!" Dana called. "What's going on? Where you going? To see your new boo, Nathan?"

"Too many questions," I laughed.

"Nathan as in Nathan Prescott?" Juliet said.

"Yeah!" Dana said. "I saw Nathan sneaking out of her room last night."

"Oh my god are you okay?" Amelie asked.

"Uhh.. yeah?" I asked. "Why?"

"Wait so you wanted to hang out with him?" Amelie asked concerned.

"Yeah," I said. "Wait, why? Should I not have?"

"Wait isn't that your brother?" Juliet asked Amelie. "Why are you acting so strange about your own brother?"

"I don't know," Amelie said. "Never mind."

"Okay well.. I'm gonna go.. bye guys," I said and waved goodbye.

They all said bye but Amelie kept her eyes on me as I walked away, it was as if she was studying me, with a face, confusion written all over.

I ignored her and continued to walk to Nathan's dorm. I hoped he was still happy after last night. His moods seem to switch pretty often. But I understand him, and why he is the way he is. I can't help but want to fix him.

I knocked on his door, he opened it, "Hey, I wanna go to the diner with you."

I smiled, "Why?"

"I owe you," He said. "For cheering me up last night. So let's go get some brunch."

"Alright," I said as he walked out his dorm, shutting the door behind him.

He grabbed my hand and tangled our fingers together, looking back at me with a smirk. He's proudly holding my hand around campus? He doesn't seem like the type.

We walked to the parking lot and got into his truck, ready to go to the dinner.

"How's you sleep last night?" He asked me as he started the engine of the truck.

"Good," I said. "Definitely not bad."

"Yeah me too," He said. "I haven't had good sleep in so long."

I turned my head to look at him, his eyes were so focused on the road, "Stop looking at me."

"I'm not," I said turning my head.

"Mhm," He said pulling into the parking lot of the diner.

We got out the truck and walked into the dinner, the smell of bacon filled the air.

"Hey Frank," Nathan said to some guy who I'm assuming is Frank.

"Who's that?" Frank asked motioning his chin to me. "That your chick?"

Nathan shook his head, "No, just my friend."

I knew it was too good to be true, was he just starting to get embarrassed of me?

Frank responded, "Hit me up if you need anything else."

Anything else? What has Nathan gotten off this guy? Maybe just weed. This dude look hella shady though.

"Go sit," Nathan said. "I'm gonna use the bathroom."

I nodded my head and sat down in a booth. I tapped my fingers on the table, waiting for Nathan to return.

An employee with brunette hair came up to me and placed down two menus, "I'll be back in just a few moments hun."

Nathan returned from the bathroom, and sat across from me, "What are you thinking of getting?"

"I don't know," I answered keeping my eyes on the menu.

"What's your problem?" He asked.

"Nothing," I shook my head still not looking up at him.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you Dakota," He said in a serious tone, he never really calls me Dakota unless he's getting upset, otherwise he'd just call me Seattle.

I didn't answer him though, I kept my eyes plastered to the menu. My eyes scanned all the available dishes, it all sounded so good but I was unsure of what I exactly wanted right now.

"Dakota," He whisper-yelled raising his voice.

I looked up at him, "What Nathan?"

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" He asked, his face was turning red.

"Calm down Nathan, please," I said looking around us.

He let out a deep breathe of air, sighing as he focused his eyes on his menu.

"You just confuse me," I said to him.

"How?" He asked looking up at me.

"I don't know, you just act one way, and then switch up the next moment."

"Stop being so fucking vague," He said.

I rolled my eyes, "Forget about it."

He opened his mouth and went to say something but was cut off by the waitress, "Sorry to interrupt you guys, are you ready to order?"

I nodded, Nathan stayed quiet.

"Drinks?"

"I'll have a coke," Nathan said with some attitude causing me to shoot him a look.

"Just a water," I answered respectfully.

"And to eat?"

"I'll just have have a cheeseburger," Nathan ordered.

"I'll have the same," I said as she looked at me.

"Okay, give it fifteen to twenty minutes," She said collecting our menus and walking away.

"As you were saying.." He started.

"I don't know," I shrugged my shoulders. "I just thought there was something but I guess not."

He looked at me and raised his eyebrows, "You and I?"

"I don't know.." I trailed off. "That was dumb of me I guess, sorry."

He stayed quiet while we waited our food. I guess I hoping for some sort of reassurance of what I hoped was a budding relationship. How could I be so naive?

When the food came out we ate in silence, I was starting to get impatient with him. Sure I haven't known him for a long time, that's for sure. But he was the one who tried to hook up with me in the first place.

I finished my food, and waited for him to finish his. I could feel his leg twitching beneath the table as it kept rubbing against mine in rapid and irregular pattern.

"Let's go," He ordered as he left money on the table and stood up from the booth.

He was heading towards the door when it opened, and in came Max. The girls who saved Kate. But she was also the girl who had it out for Nathan for reasons, I didn't quite understand.

"Move you dyke," He said pushing past her.

She flinched as he grabbed my wrist and dragged me past her. Angry at him, I tore my wrist from his grip.

"What the fuck Dakota?"

"Just shut up," I said as I shoved him away from me. "You bitch."

"Excuse me?" He asked.

"You're just so fucking indecisive," I cried out as I kept shoving him further and further from me.

"Dakota stop!" He yelled at me. "Get in the fucking truck."

He went over to the passenger side of the truck and opened the door, "Get. In. Now." He grit his teeth together.

"No."

"Dakota."

"Why do you think you can fucking tell me what to do?" I asked him. "There's been so many red flags with you, and I've been ignoring every single one. And nothing good has come out of it."

"Fine," He said slamming the door closed. "Suit yourself you whore."

He got into his truck and drove away leaving me standing in the parking lot all alone.
