Dakota's Point of View

I was walking back to my dorm, shaking. Why the fuck is Nathan Prescott so rude? I thought I might've broken into his shell. Maybe I did and he realized so he had to put his front back up.

I opened the door to the dormitories, there stood two girls, one with a low brown ponytail and another with a low side bun.

"Hey!" The first girl called. "You're Dakota! Right? I'm Dana Ward!"

"And I'm Juliet Watson," The other one smiled in a more calm tone.

"Hey," I smiled.

"I heard about Nathan wanting you in The Vortex Club. You gonna join?" Asked Juliet.

"Yeah, probably not," I said thinking of me spitting in Nathan's face.

"Girl! Come on! I know Victoria can be a bitch but it's not all that bad. We're not all stuck up!" Dana said, this girl was so cheery and enthusiastic.

"I'll see," I said.

"Here, let me get your phone number!" Dana said.

I passed her my phone and she put in both her phone number and Juliet's. I then told them my phone number into their phone.

"Okay, see you tomorrow," I said walking away waving, they both waved back.

I entered my dorm room. I realized I left my backpack at Nathan's room since I was in such a rush to get out of there. At that thought, my phone vibrated. Was Dana texting me already?

Private Number: Dakota it was just a bad high

Why is Nathan texting me from a Private number? How'd he get my number anyways? I decided to ignore him, which led to my phone buzzing over and over again.

Private Number: Dakota I'm sorry
Private Number: Dakota??
Private Number: You left your bag here want me to drop it off?
Private Number: Or you can come get it
Private Number: I'm trying to be nice just fucking answer me.

I didn't know whether or not to text him back. But ultimately, I decided to.

Me: It's fine, I can come get it.

I got up, what if this is a trap? Maybe he actually is creepy and scary? He definitely have some issues though.

I started walking back to his dorm, "Leaving so soon new girl?" I heard Dana say as I walked passed her room.

I decided to ignore her, she wasn't being mean, I just wanted to get to Nathan's dorm quick. Once I got there, I didn't bother knocking on the door, I just opened it. This time, Nathan was wearing a shirt.

"Dakota," He said. "I-I'm sorry. It was just a bad high. And also, I've never met a girl on Blackwell who-"

"Wouldn't let you fuck?" I asked.

He nodded then put his head in hands, "Yeah."

"We both weren't in our sober state of mind," I said. "I still feel a little lightheaded."

"Yeah, you're right, me too."

I reached down by the foot of his bed and grabbed my backpack. As I lifted my backpack up he grabbed my wrist, not too tight though.

"Listen Dakota, we just met and for some reason, I'm fucking caving in for you," He said. "Ask any prick on this campus and they'll confirm that I'm hella not soft. At all."

"So what you're saying is..?"

"I don't know," He said. "I've never done shit like this before."

"Like what?" I asked slinging my backpack over my shoulder as he released his grip on me.

"Y'know like us?" He asked.

"What about us?"

"Don't play dumb," He said crossing his arms and tilting his head.

"Okay, I think you're cool too," I said reaching for the doorknob.

"No it's more than just thinking each other is cool. It-It's-"

"So what you're trying to say is Nathan Prescott, photography prodigy, the richest yet most understood boy, wants to figure me out?"

He nodded, "Don't get ahead of yourself Seattle, I'm not in love with you."

"Okay," I said nodding sitting on his couch. "What do you wanna understand?"

"Why Blackwell?" He asked. "There's schools in Washington and other schools in Oregon. Why Blackwell?"

"I got a scholarship to here," I laughed. "My family isn't rich."

"What do your parents do? Well, your dad."

"When my mom split, I didn't know why. Turns out she went to New York to become a poet. But she failed, and I'm glad. My dad is a car mechanic," I said. "I know, not fancy like your folks."

"I don't care," He said. "What abo-"

He was interrupted by a loud bang on his door, "What the fuck?" He said angrily swinging the door open.

"Yo! Girl's dormitories!" Some guy said.

"What?" I asked.

"Oh shit, new girl," He laughed and winked at Nathan. "Anyways, it's Kate Marsh?"

Nathan looked at my confused but then motioned me to follow him. Everyone was practically running to the girls' dormitories. When we got there, there she was, standing up on the roof.

"Is that Kate Marsh?" I asked Nathan.

He nodded his head, not saying a word.

"Oh shit," I said covering my eyes as she took a step closer to the edge.

Behind Kate was the girl who spilled the paint on Victoria yesterday. Was she trying to help Kate?

"Of course, Max being a fucking superhero," Nathan said angrily through gritted teeth.

Eventually, after a few moments that felt like hours, Kate fell into the arms of Max. That Max girl saved her, totally cool.

There was security heading over, EMTs, and even Principal Wells.

"Nathan, in my office now," Principal Wells ordered from behind us.

Nathan angrily stomped away but Principal Wells stayed standing where he was, "Stay away from that boy," He said. "I don't want you to end up like other girls he was associated with." Then he pointed to Kate Marsh. "Like that one." Principal Wells then walked away leaving me confused, had Nathan have something to do with Kate Marsh attempting suicide?

Confused, I walked into my dorm, still shaken up by Kate Marsh. Sure, I didn't know her. But it was still so painful to see almost happen. What if Max wasn't up there in time?

My phone buzzed, it was from the same private number, Nathan.

Private Number: That dyke bitch Max got me suspended. Dumb bitch.

Me: Calm down Nathan, it's probably a misunderstanding?

Private Number: No because at my party last week, Kate was there and got drunk as fuck kissing a bunch of guys. It was filmed and uploaded and that's why she's so "depressed" or whatever she is. That Jesus whore did it to herself. But because it was MY party, I'm responsible. I'm not a fucking babysitter. Was I supposed to babysit everyone there and make sure nobody kissed anyone?

Me: Come see me

I sat on my bed just waiting for Nathan to show. Then, there was a knock at my door, "Come in," I said.

Nathan walked into my room, he seemed so upset.

"Come here," I said scooting over so there was room for him.

I opened my arms and he came between them as I held him.

"What did I do?" He asked upset and crying.

"Nothing Nathan, you did nothing, this isn't your fault," I repeated.

"You don't know that," He sniffled. "I haven't been a good person."

"It's okay Nathan," I said holding him. "She didn't jump, she will be okay."
