Dakota's Point of View
I grabbed the last box out of my Dad's car, "I'm gonna miss you mija!" He beamed pulling me into an awkward hug since I was still holding a box.
"I'm gonna miss you too," I smiled.
"You sure you don't need help unpacking anything?" He asked as she held my shoulders.
"I'm sure," I had to keep reassuring him that I'd be alright.
He hugged me one last time, "You better text and call your brothers, they're gonna miss you a lot." And I nodded before he got in his car, and driving off, far from Oregon to my home in Seattle, Washington.
I carried the last box to my dorm. I sighed, I already missed my brothers, Sean and Daniel. I never thought I'd be missing them this much.
I placed the box on my bed and began unpacking. I started with my clothes. After unpacking two boxes worth of all my clothes, I lied back on my bed, tired. Maybe I should check out around Blackwell? It was only nine o'clock.
I left the dormitories and began walking towards the school itself. Once I walked in, I saw a girl with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes.
"Hey, you're new aren't you?" She asked.
"Yeah," I nodded my head.
"I'm Amelie Prescott," She said. "I can help you find your classes if you need. It's Monday. Do you have any classes today?."
"Sure yeah," I nodded. "I think I need to get my schedule from Principal Wells though. But I don't remember having any classes today, I think today is just for me to settle in a bit."
"Here, when you walk through this main entrance, take the door on your right, there's secretaries in there. Ask them for your schedule. Trust me if you don't have to talk to Wells, just don't."
"Alright," I smiled. "By the way I'm Dakota Diaz."
"Dakota.." She said slowly listening to my name. "Cute! Get your schedule then I'll show you around a bit."
I went into the main building, then in the room on my right.
"Hi my name is Dakota Diaz," I started. "I'm new and need my schedule."
Just as I said that, the door opened labeled Principal flung open and out came an angry boy with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes, he looked so similar to Amelie.
"Nathan get back in here!" Someone yelled from in the room, who I'm assuming is Principal Wells.
"Hey you," Nathan said coming up to me. "You're the new girl?" I nodded my head. "Get the fuck out this shithole while you can." Then he stormed past me and out the room.
The principal stood in the doorframe, "Sorry about him," Principal Wells apologized.
I shrugged, "Well if anything, this will be quite the story time for my little brothers back at home."
Principal Wells laughed, "Nice to meet you Dakota Diaz. I hate that it has to be under very odd circumstances. Blackwell normally doesn't have this much chaos. I hope you can put this aside and won't allow it to form such an opinion on your young impressionable self."
"Trust me, no judgement coming from here," I smiled.
The secretary at the desk handed me my schedule, "Here you are," She said.
"I can set someone up to give you a tour and show you around if you aren't too busy," Principal Wells offered.
"I already have someone," I said kindly while Wells fashioned a confused look on his face. "Amelie Prescott."
"Ah, Amelie," Principal Wells nodded slowly. "She's a good one.. for the most part. Good luck Dakota. If you need anything, don't hesitate, you know where to find me."
I nodded my head and walked out of the building. Amelie was arguing with Nathan. When she saw me she whispered something to him and he fixed himself, easing his facial expression and straightening out his jacket.
"Hey Dakota," Amelie started. "Get your schedule alright?"
"Yeah, something like that," I said smiling and looking over to Nathan. Nathan snickered back to me with a sarcastic face.
"Well, this is my twin brother Nathan," Amelie said.
"Hey," He said lowly barely showing a facial expression.
"And Nathan, this is Dakota Diaz, she's the new girl."
"I'm a science major," I smiled.
"I'm a literature major," Amelie said. "And Nathan is a photography major."
"Cool," I smiled. "I used to be into a photography. But I'm sure whatever little pictures I took won't compare to someone's who majors in it."
"Yeah," Nathan nodded. "Probably not."
My eyes widened for a second, I was taken aback by the sudden attitude. Although it seemed like he might've just been having a bad day with Principal Wells.
"Excuse us," Amelie said pushed past Nathan, grabbing my hand, and walking us into the main entrance. "Sorry about him.. he's been a little.. on edge lately.."
"It's fine," I shrugged as I followed her down a hallway filled with classes.
"That's Mr. Jefferson's room," She pointed to a black door. "Photography."
She showed me the rest of my classes, I was glad to finally be at a cool school.
"So where are you from?" Asked Amelie.
"Seattle," I responded.
"Rainy days, huh?" She laughed.
"You can say that again," I laughed with her.
"So those are your classes," She said. "Feeling confident about remembering tomorrow?"
"No clue," I laughed. "I sure will try though."
Amelie and I said our goodbyes and I walked back to my dorm.
"New girl!" I heard someone call.
I turned to her, it was a girl with short blonde hair wearing what appeared to be super expensive clothes.
"C'mere!" She called in her high pitched voice.
I went over to where she was sitting. She was sitting on cement steps that lead to the dorms.
"My names Victoria," She said. "You must be Dakota!"
"Yeah," I nodded slowly.
"A lot of people are talking about you," She said. "Listen, Nathan may think you're attractive enough to be in the club, but you're a science major. Don't get comfortable around the Vortex Club, we don't want you."
"I never wanted to partake in your stupid posse anyways," I said back.
"Amelie isn't even part of the club," Victoria said. "And she's Nathan's twin."
"Shut up Victoria," Nathan said walking over. "You sound like an idiot."
She scrunched up her smooth face, "Yeah right."
"Just let me get through to my dorm," I said. "Don't make this harder on yourself Victoria."
Nathan looked at me with a cocked eyebrow, his face surprised of my words.
"Where are you from anyways?" She says standing up off the stairs and getting in my face.
"Seattle," I said tilting my head.
"I heard Seattle's for pussies," She scoffed looking at her friends who laughed.
"Back up new girl!" A girl with short brown hair and bangs called.
I took a few step back, and then Victoria became drenched in white paint. Her expression immediately fell.
"Say cheese you Blackwell bitch," I smirked and took a picture of her with my phone.
I shoved passed her and went inside the dormitories, "Hey you can't do that!" I heard.
"Do what?" I turned around and there stood Nathan.
"Fuck with her," He said. "She holds hella power."
"I'm from Seattle," I said. "Nothing scares me."
I turned around and walked back to my dorm, leaving Nathan standing there in the doorway.
I walked into my room, moving whatever boxes I had remaining of miscellaneous junk off my bed to lie down and take a nap.

I sat on my bed and opened my laptop, opening Skype. I dialed my dad, waiting for the call to be answered.
"Mija!" My dad beamed. "How was your first day living on campus, so far away from your beloved padre?"
"Interesting," I laughed.
"Do you already have problems with somebody?" He asked, I remained quiet. "Dakota, you're better than that, you went away for a fresh start. No problems with anybody, or you might as well come to Seattle where you have problems here too."

"Dad, I'll be fine," I smiled. "How are the boys?"
"Good," He said nodding his head. "If you consider a broken leg good."
"Who did what?" I said laughing.
"Sean and Lyla were fooling around and.. I don't know I'm sure it was just a lie anyways."
"I miss being thirteen," I said sighing. "The world seemed so much — nicer."
"I know mija," My dad said with a weak smile. "But you're in good hands now."
"I hope so," I answered. "Where are the boys?"
My dad turned around, "Daniel! Sean! Your sister wants to talk to you!"
Sean and Daniel ran to the camera. Well, not Sean, he had crutches.
"How's the academy?" Sean asked excitedly.
I talked to my brothers for a little while longer before my father insisted that they go to bed for school tomorrow.
"Text me mija, if you need anything," My dad said.
"Thank you dad, I love you. Make sure Sean draws me a picture and mails it!"
"Of course, I love you too."
The line disconnected and I shut my laptop. I had just napped so I wasn't tired, but I should go to sleep since I have class tomorrow.
I check my schedule, my first class wasn't until eleven. I don't have to be in bed too early.
I decided for the rest of the night I would unpack some boxes while listening to music. I always listened to music that my dad liked.
After my mom left, he occupied himself by listening to music all the time. At least his coping mechanisms were good. Of course when my mom first left I was so young, Daniel was just as baby. But as I got to be around Sean's current age, the truth ate me alive and all I caused was trouble.
Hopefully Blackwell is a fresh start, away from the trouble I partook in back home.
