IT was the year 2012 and Eliza was finally free grom HYDRA's grasp. Her heart ached as her mind traveled to the successful day when she left her friend behind. She had travel from place to place, getting shelter from abandon buildings and vacant lots. for half a year she stayed in places that lacked residents and any animals, unable to take refuge with someone after being reported and HYDRA almost finding her.

Eliza laid on her bed in the penthouse her family owned, a large window being the only wall to her right. Music blasted out of her headphones as she wiggled on her soft sheets.

Even after being "home" for 5 months, the idea of sleeping in a proper bed was foreign to her and her body. Despite how the plush mattress would embrace her body her brain refused to let her rest.

Her eyes fluttered closed as the slow music lulled her sleep, her naturally tense body slowly relaxing as she fell into a state of quiet bliss. And as the song faded into the quiet everything faded, her nightmares, worries, paranoia, all gone.

Until the song changed into heavy metal.

She shot up with a squeak and ripped out her black earbuds, the loud words remaining audible in her lap. Eliza winced and rubbed her sensitive ears while pausing her new phone with slight struggle, not completely sure how to turn it off. With a sigh she dropped it onto her bed with a pop and stood to stretch her stiff neck and sore back.

"Everything will be fine."

"Okay. We have to sell the penthouse."

"No! We don't! That's-Thats-"

"What? An actual solution?" Elenore Bishop sneered. Eliza stiffened as her mother yelled, her voice perfectly clear.

"Maybe growing up in this place you got used to the idea that a solution will just fall out of the sky. But I won't." She glared. Her green eyes narrowed on Derek, his dark was now graying - most likely from stress and old age - ans morning outfit undone and wrinkled.

"You've got a daughter to think of!"

"Two daughters, Elenore! Two!" Derek Bishop shouted back.

While Elenore was his first love his daughters always came first, they were something he'd give his life for. He loved them more than himself and when Kate was born he vowed to himself that he'd protect her the way he could with Eliza.

Derek had always regretted taking the extra shift that day, he wished nothing more that he would have stayed home and spent time with her before she was taken.

From that day forth he never let Kate go to the park, believing Elenore when she said Eliza was kidnapped while she was getting ice cream.

Elenore didn't mind lying to her husband, because of a small inconvenience she got to keep the love of her life and get a new daughter. A chance to restart and ger the real love she wanted from a child.

Her biggest mistake was being young and in love, thinking everything would work out and she'd live a fairytale with a happily ever after. She hadn't planned to be 18 and pregnant, and after her parents threw her out everything was ruined.

She lost her parents, her collage scholarship, and her home over one accident. For that she detested the thing inside of her, almost deciding to get rid of it for good.

"Oh be quiet. Elizabeth is a grown adult that can take care of herself. Kate can't."

At the mention of her name the toy truck Kate used to listen in clattered to the floor. The parents looked up to the ceiling, letting out a sigh.

"Damn it." Elenore sighed.

"Do you want to?" Derek asked.

"Who are we kidding? You go." Elenore rolled her eyes and ran her hand threw her hair.

He walked away with a sigh and grunt. He watched his feet as he walked up the stairs and eventually got to Kate's door. Re raised his fist and went to knock when the door two down opened.

Eliza peered out and leaned against the door frame. He sighed and gave her a tired smile. Eliza waved and returned the gesture, I'm anything she seems more down than him. He hated the fact that she always seemed exhausted and scared, the two things he wanted to protect her from most.

She pushed off the wall and walked over. Derek lowered his hand and turned his head to her.

Her brown boots admitted no sound as she walked over to him, shoving her hand into her pockets.

She wore a long sleeved shirt. The black color made her look even prettier and covered the things she disliked about herself. The long sleeves ended at the right length and the thin turtle neck kept her warm without suffocating her.

Her brown knee high boots matched the soft fur coat she had left on her bed and her bottoms weas tucked underneath them.

"Still chaotic as ever, I see." Eliza grinned at her dad. He chuckled with a nod and stepped back.

Eliza smiled and knocked on the door. With a second of warning she walked in, looking at her sisters small figure. Her long hair was sprawled across her pillows and the dress she wore was hastily stuffed under her covers.

She rolled her eyes as Kate took quick and short breaths, faking slumber. She crept closer and waited behind her. After a few seconds Kate slowly opened her eyes and sat up with a proud smile.

Eliza suddenly grabbed her making Kate squeal. Her fingers tickled Kate's stomach. She loudly laughed as Eliza grinned, her face soon aching.

She soon stopped and sat beside her on the bed, Kate's chest heaving as she took heavy breaths. Derek watched them with a smile, crossing his arms and leaning against the door frame.

"You shouldn't eavesdropping." Derek lightly scolded, his happy expression never falling from his face. With a grin Eliza turned to Kate, "Yeah Katie, no ease dropping." She teased.

Derek chuckled as Kate pouted. Feeling a pair of eyes on her, she turned around. Her smile widened at her father's look, eyebrows raised and a matching grin.

Kate looked up bashfully, "Then how would I know what you're saying when I'm not there?"

"Yeah, she got that from me." Eliza grimace at her paranoid habit, slightly guilty.

"I don't know how to argue with that. How much did you hear?"

"I don't wanna move." Kate said as she twisted around. With a sigh Eliza moved behind her, grabbing the brush in her night stand and combing threw her hair to braid it.

"That much, huh?" Derek sat on the bed. "We don't have to."

"How do you know? Mommy said things just don't fall from the sky." Kate asked.

"Well, yeah. But there's always gonna be weather. Some people forget the one thing they can't control." Derek smiled. "The choices they make in the face of it." Kate smiled, a puff of breath falling from her mouth.

"And... done." Eliza warmly smiled as she tried the end of Kate's hair.

"What would you do in a hurricane?" Kate asked her father.

"The same thing I would do. Protect you." Eliza answered.

"Now. Why don't you go have some lunch with your mom, Eliza and I need to have a grown up conversation." Derek smiled as they exchanged a look.

"I'm a grown up!" Kate protested while dramatically crossing her arms.

"Sadly, not grown enough." Eliza patted Kate's back as she sighed. She nodded and ran away, almost like she was doing the walk of shame

They waited in silence before he spoke up, "How are you doing?" He warmly asked. With a sigh she stood up, wiping non-existent dirt off of her.

She stood as well as they both walked down the halls, conversing as they walked towards Derek's office.

"I'm getting better at control, now that I have emotions it's been harder but I'm holding it together.

Derek smiled in pity, barely able to look at her. Noticing his guilty look she frowned, "Hey, don't blame yourself. You couldn't have stopped this from happening."

Derek sighed and nodded, "Don't mean that I don't feel bad."

Eliza winced as she faced forwards, eyes flickering to him. "I don't need your pity."

Derek winced and shook his head, "No, I didn't mean it like that-"

"But you did." She cut him off. He sighed but didn't deny the statement.

She was happy that father cared for her and tried to help but other than his love he wasn't much of his help, even if it did sound harsh.

"Still can't sleep despite having an amazing bed. It's pretty shitty but..." She trailed off, blowing a raspberry.

Trauma and nightmares haunted her, when she slept and when she was awake. Her past kept her running and fear forced fight or flight actions.

She was finally free yet she was still trapped.

"I'm sure it'll get better." Her dad smiled.

"Yeah but Mom. She just... she doesn't help." Eliza took a deep breath half way through, holding her composer as her heart stung.

"She loves you, even if she doesn't show it." He reassured.

"She really doesn't, truth be told."

The lights flickered as he went to say something else. Her eyebrows furrowed as her lips pouted in confusion, Derek looking around as well.

"What was-" BOOM

Eliza yelled as the house shook, the blast almost making her topple over. Her dad grabbed her arm and pulled her upright, both of them looking at the window.

"What was that?" Eliza asked.

"I don't know." Derek muttered as walked closer. He peered out, looking both ways before turned back around.

"Maybe it's just construction, I heard they're renovating the lobby-" He was cut off when the building across from them exploded, a small puff of fire moving in the wind.

"Oh dear god." She whispered as her eyes grew wide, taking a small step back. Her heart picked up its pace and panic flowed through her.

"We've got to get out of here!" Derek called in shock. He took a step forward when another blast was set off.

Rubble and rock splattered everywhere as dust and fire covered the wall. Derek screamed as it inflamed his body, his torso burning with fire.

Eliza screamed and covered her mouth. Gut wrenching sounds left her father's mouth as he stumbled and crashed to the floor.

Before Eliza could help the roof above her crumbled and she dodged out of the way, just in time.

She fell to the ground as sobs left her mouth. She slowly set up as everything fell quiet. She looked up in shock and at her father.

His mouth was left hanging open and his once tan skin was now red and brown, melted and a perforation of holes.

She gagged as she looked at the clusters of them, almost throwing up. Blood was pooling under him as dust and debris covered his skin.

She cried as she looked into his wide eyes, his face still in a look of horror and pain. The tears he had shed were dried to his face and patches of his head was empty, some of his hair still burning.

She coughed as the smell of smoke flowed into her lungs, unable to take the sight much longer.

With one last look she stumbled up and raced away, tripping over her own feet at first. Adrenaline rush through her veins with the super serum.

She ran down the stairs, her curly hair bouncing behind her and fingers brushing the broken railing.

Even as she rushed away the image burned in her mind, but her body wouldn't allow more tears.

She gasped as a window close by shattered, the shards flying on her and grazing her skin, ripping her clothes.

As she noticed a head of brown she called out, "Kate!" She coughed, her hand covering her mouth from the rising smoke. She gripped the girls elbow and turned her around.

She had a look of awe on her face, here hair was messy and grime was smudged on her cheek.

"Kate what..." Eliza faltered as her gaze landed on the whole in the wall, soon noticing what was outside.

"Holey..." She trailed off as beems of blue light traveled in the air and alien-like creatures flew around.

And there in the middle of all the chaos stood the Stark Tower, the only remaining letters being A and K.

Her eyes scanned everything, taking note of one alien looking thing flying towards them. She grabbed Kate and pulled her to the side, shielding her with her own body. She raised her hand, ready to fight at all cost.

It let out a growl before combusting in front of her eyes. Her and Kate were shocked as a man in purple fought off the alien creatures. Each move was precise and accurate. He ran off the roof of the building before turning around and shooting an arrow. He held tight as he fell before he swung to a level underneath.

"Kate!" Elenore yelled, appearing out of nowhere and grabbing the youngest.

"We have to get out of here." Elenore cried as she glanced at the chaos outside. She grabbed Kate and pulled them away.

Eliza rushed after, gasping as she tripped over new rubble. Her head smacked the floor, throat wheezing as her lungs constricted.

She groaned and looked up, a line of red flowing down her head. As she leftes herself up the room behind her exploded, the song causing her ear to ring.

She screamed at the sound, falling back down. The tears she had withheld finally crashed down her face, her vision swirling and nausea filling her stomach.

"Come on." She groaned and pulled herself upright. She clung to the walls around her and her legs shook.

Now all she had to do was get out.
