Thea wandered away from the fire not long after Minho had left. She was tired of the little drunkards cat-calling her and she wasn't welcome in the few games that were going on, so that left only Thea to entertain herself. That was fine. She was the most capable for any job anyway.

Alby and Newt were still in the Homestead trying to figure out sleeping arrangements, whatever that meant- couldn't she just sleep in one of the hammocks like everybody else? She wasn't scared of a few little boys, she could handle herself- so she steered clear of the building. Thea didn't need to be lectured any more than she already had. Her first day of... well her first day that she could recall had turned out to be uneventful and incredibly boring. Those two, being the cause of it, would not contribute to anything save making it worse.

She'd never admit that she couldn't remember any of the rest of her life. No, she didn't need the Gladers teasing her about that. She didn't need to give away her weakness. It'd come back to her. She was sure of it. At least she knew for a surety that she hadn't been in the Glade before. The boys wouldn't have acted the way they had if that were the case.

Thea stepped over a snoring lump of a boy and kicked his glass aside. Stupid boy. Stupid drinking.

She spread her arms out, drawing them through the air in a slow circle as she searched the Glade like a hawk circling its prey. What she was searching for, she hadn't decided, but nothing caught her eye. The boredom was eating her up inside like a virus devouring her mind bit by bit. She needed to do something! Feel something!

Heavy shadows fell upon her, put there by the thick slabs of stone that separated the Glade from whatever lay beyond. Thea's shoulders tweaked up as if to say 'why not?' Nothing would cure her boredom like an adventure. Exploring beyond the walls would be fun, especially as the moon rose over the horizon to dance with the stars that didn't look quite right to Thea, though she couldn't place why.

She glanced around, daring anyone to resist her, and took a step towards the opening in the wall. When none came, she took another and another and another.

The ivy trellaced down the upright slabs, occasionally sliced into pieces by markings that could only come from a machete. Eighteen inches, she guessed. How she could tell was as much a mystery to her as the rest of her life.

Thea's fingers brushed through the green tendrils and met the cold stone beneath as she walked. It had to be a giant maze. What else would a random series of passageways be? Maybe she could make it to the exit and get back to her old life. Whatever that was.

The boys may not have been able to, but seeing as she was the only girl around here, the only logical reason as to why was that they'd all escaped already. Thea was nothing if not smart and she had no doubt in her abilities.

The ground trembled beneath Thea's feet. She froze, her face draining of color, and her ears were molested by the violent shriek of metal on metal. Her head whipped around and back down the passageway she'd traveled through.

"What in the- DO YOU MIND?" She muttered to herself at first, but, assuming some Gladers were making a racket to bug her, she shouted the last bit into the empty air. Her voice was drowned out by the noise. Why did it always come down to her taking matters into her own hands?

Her long, stomping strides left streaks of frustration in her wake. Thea was appalled at the audacity. Who gave the world the right to bother her? Why couldn't she just live her life without interruption? She rolled her eyes. They would get stuck forever in a loop if she did it too much, she recalled being told, but she couldn't put a face to the words.

Thea turned the corner of the passage to where the opening was, prepared to give an earful to whoever was on the other side rubbing metal together or however they made the noise, but no one was there. The giant slabs of stone rumbled and slid together, closing the gap that she'd passed through. It wasn't just an opening. It was a door. And it was closing.

"Gibson!" Someone yelled in the distance. "What are you doing? Get back here now! Quickly!"

She saw the black haired boy shoot up from his seat and frantically trip over other Gladers in his rush to get to her. What was his problem? The boy had made clear Thea's standing in his eyes and it wasn't good. Why did it matter what she did? She could sleep out here. That would only solve Newt and Alby's issue with the sleeping arrangements. So long as the doors didn't open again in the middle of the night, she'd be perfectly safe from any nosy boys.

As the other Gladers turned at Minho's outburst and started shouting to her as well, that's when Thea felt something was wrong. She glanced over her shoulder back through the Maze and focused her attention on the Gladers once more.

"What? What's going on?" Even Thea, queen of masking her fear, couldn't disguise the tremble in her voice. All the panic was getting to her. Was she supposed to know what was going on? Or was the answer to that locked away in her memory as well?

Minho's figure grew bigger as he approached the Doors in desperation. "Trust me!" He shouted through his panting. Thea had to admit, he was fast. "You do not want to be out there! Come back and we'll explain!"

"Don't tell me what to do!" She shouted right back. Her teeth ground together in harmony with the closing doors. If that shank thought he could make Thea do anything, he was dead wrong. She turned on her heel and started walking further into the Maze.

"GIBSON! I'm serious! Come back! It's dangerous!"

Minho was now at a stand still, right outside the walls. If he wanted her back to the Glade so badly, why was he so scared to cross the line?

"MAKE ME!"
