Chapter 6

Isadora Coral Baird (Beffery)

"It tastes disgusting!" Isa grimaced. "Excuse me? You won't find food like this in any district!" "I can see why. Because it just doesn't taste good!"Isa jumped up from the table. "I'm going now." "We'll see about that," Lecan mumbled coldly. He seemed to see the annoyed look on her face. "I don't know what's going on in your head, but we're going to die in an arena soon. You might kill other kids. Other kids will kill you. That's just how the Hunger Games work." "Nobody kills anyone. That's nonsense. You shouldn't be so pessimistic." "District 12 hasn't had any winners yet! Besides, you'll have to kill, otherwise they'll kill you!" Lecan had also got up in the meantime."Hey, calm down for now. You can kill each other in the arena, but not here," Janine intervened. The peacekeeper sat there completely disinterested. Isa stared angrily at Lecan for a moment. Then she stormed into the next room and slammed the door loudly.
She didn't know what to do. If only she had never had the stupid idea of spontaneously looking for her dad! Now she seemed to have to play these strange hunger games that she still didn't fully understand. It was slowly getting dark outside, as Isa could see through the window above her bed. Hopefully her mum wasn't too worried. Her chances of finding her father diminished every second they travelled away from the station. Isa glanced at the alarm clock next to her uncomfortable bed. 1.30 a.m. already. How long had she been lying like this? Quite a long time, apparently.

Coriolanus Snow

"Not another prescription." Coriolanus took the almost full sheet of paper, crumpled it up and simply threw it behind him. He had to start from the beginning, Dr Gaul was quite fussy about crossed-out words because she couldn't stand them for some unknown reason. He realised that he could hardly see anything. Maybe he should switch on the light. But he would have to get up and that would take time, which he also needed for the assignment. After all, he was doing this work in addition to his regular work. However, he could barely manage to see the page.

Coriolanus heaved a sigh and stood up. He dragged himself to a light switch. When he touched it, he was dazzled by the light. I wonder what time it was? He didn't know. It wasn't important either. Not as important as Gaul's assignment. He could theoretically continue writing tomorrow evening, but he didn't have time. Something was there. He couldn't remember what it was.
He walked slowly back to the dining table. It was pretty messy, but strangely enough he didn't mind. Strange, otherwise it upset him. He would have preferred to just go to sleep. What did he want to write again? Then Coriolanus remembered. He wrote and wrote until his phone rang. Confused, he got up. He didn't actually have time for a phone call, he looked at his watch, half past two."Hello?" "Why are you answering the phone? It's far too early!" "Tigris, why are you calling? If it's about a new appointment, I can suggest the day after tomorrow." "As if I'm calling so early in the morning to make a new appointment. I'm calling because I'm worried. I don't know what's going on right now, but you have to reduce the stress or you'll destroy yourself." "I'm very good at deciding for myself when it's too much for me. I'm doing well. I know my limits." He hung up without waiting for an answer. Coriolanus didn't have time for that now.

Isadora Coral Baird (Beffery)

This time, Isa didn't wake up because she fell out of a tree. No, this time she fell out of bed."Awake already?" asked Lecan. "No, I usually sleep on the floor after I've fallen out of bed." Lecan didn't answer. Isa really tried to like him, but she found it difficult somehow. He meant it too kindly and she immediately became sarcastic."It's nearly eight o'clock, do you think there's breakfast yet?" "I don't know, but we can check." Lecan opened the door. The table was indeed already set. But there was no sign of Janine. When Lecan simply sat down, Isa decided to do the same.

"Tell me about yourself, Lecan." "Why should I? You appeared out of nowhere, not me." She looked at him curiously. Lecan sighed: "I have two little brothers. They're too young for Tesera stones, so I should actually go back home. They can't do it without me. But I won't survive. My family will starve." Lecan averted his eyes."I live with my mum, although I have lived in the forest. I didn't know that District 12 and the Hunger Games existed. Actually, I took off without thinking to find my father. You shouldn't be so pessimistic. Otherwise you won't make it." "You don't know your father? Apparently he comes from the richer part of 12, if you can even call it rich." "How do you know that?" "Your blonde hair. Most of the wealthier families have it. But your white-blonde is rather rare in 12, so it shouldn't be that hard to find your father.""Good morning, I see you've started without me. Very kind of you. We'll arrive in four hours." Neither Isa nor Lecan responded to Janine's greeting.

Tigris Snow

She couldn't get over the fact that Coriolanus had simply hung up on her. If he was already awake at this hour, or hadn't slept at all, it certainly wouldn't end well. Then he could forget about the job.She didn't know when he would tell her about his girlfriend. Shane Ralkio was enthusiastically telling people on every street corner. Did Coriolanus know that the relationship was slowly but surely becoming popular? But what he definitely didn't know was that the grand madam's condition was deteriorating dramatically. Her physical condition and Coriolanus' mental state. She had actually wanted to tell him about it when she was with him yesterday. But Tigris had preferred not to. It wouldn't have done him any good.
