Chapter 3
Lucy Gray Baird
Lucy Gray searched through her box of mementos. Among other things, there were Covey dresses, including her mother's dress and the one thing of Coriolanus's that she owned. A dried white rose, which she kept in its own box. Roses reminded her of Coriolanus, especially of their first meeting.
She sighed. This wasn't especially easy for her. Neither for Isa nor for herself."I'm back!" Lucy Gray called in the direction of the chairs. But there were only the chairs. Without Isa. "Isa? Isa!" But she got no answer. That was the moment when Lucy Gray panicked. Isa was gone. Tomorrow was the reaping. She had to find Isa. Quickly.
Isadora Coral Baird
The grass beneath her shoes was soft and bright green. Various flowers bloomed in bright colours. Isa would have loved to stop and look at them more closely. But there was no time for that. Her Ma would certainly be looking for her, so Isa had to be quick.Very quick.
There were only a few snags. Some pretty serious snags.Because first of all, she didn't even know where she was supposed to go. Out of the forest somehow. Then she didn't even know where her father was or what his name was. He had to look like her, but there must have been some people with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Isa realised that her plan to run away hadn't been very well considered. In fact, she didn't know what to do at all. If she had a suspicion, how could she identify him? She couldn't ask: Hey, we don't know each other, but you could be my Pa. Do you know Lucy Gray? No, that wasn't an option. She was also thinking a little too optimistically. But there were times when you simply had to do that. However, Isa didn't really know what to do if she bumped into other people. Well, she could worry about that later.Isadora Coral stopped. She had certainly been walking for a good half hour now. She decided to change direction a little to the right. Then she continued on.
Coriolanus Snow
Shane's words ran through his mind. A relationship? Was she serious? Sure, she was smart and pretty, with her bronze skin and dark brown hair and eyes, you had to give her that. Her mother also had a great influence on Panem, she didn't come from a poor family. However, her threat left him no peace. To what extent should he regret it? He had money, a job, soon a better one once the old Gaul was out of the way. Then the realisation hit him cold. The thing with Sejanus. Who would want a man at the top who had betrayed his own friend? Nobody. Shane would tell. It had been her weapon all along, she had just been waiting for the right moment.
"Damn it!" Coriolanus went back into the corridor to his phone."Shane? Yes, it's me. That's right, I've been thinking about it. A relationship could be good for both of us. All right. No, definitely not! What? Why don't we wait until then, don't be so hasty. See you tomorrow then." Then he hung up. Now he had to sit down.Good, he was now dating Shane.
What advantages did that bring him? Well, for one thing, it made a more social impression on Panem, he wasn't betrayed by her and she also had money and influence. The disadvantages? No love, plus she was a competitor and she wanted to make it public as soon as possible. No thanks, he could do without the drama.
He lowered his head to the tabletop. The Hunger Games had priority. After that, he could take care of his personal problems. These games simply had to be a success so that he could kill Gaul. And then he would finally gain the power of the head gamemaker.
Isadora Coral Baird
It was getting dark, but there was no good place to spend the night. Isa could feel it cooling down. The safest place from the animals was up a tree. So she climbed a stable-looking tree to try and find a reasonably comfortable sleeping position. Unfortunately without success. I wonder what she would find tomorrow? The paths were a little flatter by now, which meant that people were passing by more often.Isadora Coral tore off some of the bottom of her now dirty dress. She jumped down from the tree and picked up two of the small pieces of coal scattered on the ground. She climbed back up with them.
Dear Ma, if you find this, I'm fine.I want to find Pa to get to know him. But I'll be back, I promise. I'm sorry I just disappeared. But since you are familiar with it, I'm sure it's not that bad.Isadora Coral
There, that's it. Isa tied the message to one of the branches. Now her mum knew. She would manage somehow. Somehow. Without a plan.
