Rrrrring! Rrrrring!

I roll out of bed, ignoring the hands that grab at my waist to keep me down. I lift the phone to my ear.

"Hello?" I groan.

Arms wrap around my waist and sweet nothings are muttered into my ear. I push my newest one-night-stand away. "Jerry, give me a second," I hiss.

"...Anastasia?" the voice on the other end asks meekly.

I furrow my eyebrows. In pitch and accent, it sounds like Jackie. She's the only one who pronounces my name that way, but I've never heard her sound so submissive and scared.

"Jackie?"

"I need to talk to you."

I gesture to Jerry to get ready to leave as my concern grows. "What's wrong?"

"I'm... I'm pregnant."

I almost drop the phone. "Get to my house as fast as you can."

"Okay."

I slam the phone onto its pedestal. "Okay, listen," I sigh as I turn to the boy in my room. "Last night was great, but you really need to go now."

"Oh, Princess, what about another round first?"

I cringe at the name. That's Hyde's nickname for me. His platonicย name for me.ย And I don't like it being used in a sexual way.

"I said no. I'm sorry, but you have to go home."

He shrugs as if to say, "Your loss," and I watch him slip on his shirt and strut out of my house.

I fix up the sheets and get dressed, skidding down the stairs just as the bell rings. I open the door and Jackie immediately falls into my arms. She isn't crying or sobbing or saying anything, and that's what really worries me. She just stands there, clutching at my back and staring at the kitchen floor over my shoulder.

I pull away gently and close the door behind her and lead her to the couch. "What happened?"

"Well, you know how Michael and I have made love."

I nod.

Her teeth sink into her lips. "And I guess we weren't as careful as we should've been."

"You weren't on the pill?"

She shakes her head solemnly. I jot down the brand I use for my birth control pills. "Once this whole thing falls through, start taking these. Take one every day unless you're on your period. And if you're allergic to anything, make sure it's not in there."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome. Who else did you tell?"

"Just Eric, but I'm pretty sure he told Donna."

"It'll be okay. You'll get through this."

She pretends to brush it off. "Whatever. Let's go to the Hub. That's where everyone else is."

"Jackie-"

"Let's go to the Hub."

I only notice the lateness of my awaking when we step into the restaurant. It's nearly one in the afternoon, but I present an image of someone who hasn't slept the morning away.

I drown out the sounds of Fez's description of the dream, lost in thoughts of worry for Jackie. I jump when Donna storms in and stands right between Jackie and me.

"Hi," she says with a slight snap in her tone. "Uh, I have to go to the bathroom. Jackie? Anastasia?"

The girl's depressing composure disappears for a moment. "Oh my god!" She stands in excitement. "Donna, you have never asked me to go to the bathroom with you before."

"Yeah, it's a big day." I follow the two as they disappear into the ladies' room. I shut the door and lock it, waiting for what the redhead has to say.

"So... is it true?" she questions in a jittery fashion.

"Yes, Donna, it is true," Jackie confirms. "I am carrying Michael Kelso's child."

"Jackie, you're a sophomore. How could you be so stupid?"

"I'm a sophomore."

"Couldn't you have... you know, used something?"

"We did! It... it broke. God, this child is going to ruin my life!"

"Well, yeah!" Donna is slightly harsher at the moment, but I'm glad she is. I hadn't been in the right mindset earlier to yell, and the girl needs someone to ridicule her.

Jackie starts listing off what she deems the worst things about teen pregnancy are. "I mean, I'll have to wear flats, I'll gain weight, I'll be too fat to cheer."

"Not to mention the fact that you'll have a babyย to take care of."

The smaller girl wraps her arms around me and I hug her back. "What am I going to do?"

"Jackie, it's okay. We'll help you get past this. What does Kelso say about this?"

Her head shoots up from my shoulder, and I just barely dodge a hit to the jaw. "No! No, no, no, I cannot tell Michael. It's way too embarrassing."

This is going to blow up in her face. "Jackie, you had sex with him!" I retort.

"I know I did, but we didn't talk!"

"You have to tell him."

"Yeah," Donna exhales. "If you don't we will."

A grin spreads across the soon-to-be mother's face. "Thank you, Donna. Oh, thank you!" She jumps up and wraps her arms around her neck.

"Jackie, I don't want to tell him!"

She seems to debate staying for a moment until she dashes out the door.

Donna and I lean against the sink counter. "I can't believe she's pregnant."

"Me neither. I know stuff like this happens, but I thought she'd be a little more careful."

"Are you on the pill, Donna?"

She looks away sheepishly. "No."

"I gave my suggestion to Jackie. If you have something to write with, I can put it on your arm."

"Thanks."

I scribble it on her forearm and cap the pen before grabbing her hand to join Jackie. She stands in the doorway of the bathroom, staring down at an unconscious Kelso who is being slapped by Fez.

"I think he already knows."

Once he wakes up, he comes back to Eric's house with me.ย

"The mail's here," Eric announces as he strolls into the kitchen from the driveway.ย

Laurie leaps to snatch the envelopes. She sighs in relief, "Nothing!" and hands the papers to Kitty.

"Hello, Mrs. and Mr. Forman. Hey, Laurie," I smile falsely. I don't have anything against them anymore, but I'm still drowsy.

"Sorry I was late. We were at the Hub," Eric excuses. "Then I had to drive everyone home and Kelso says-"

"Blah, blah. You're late," Red interrupts angrily. "Be responsible for your own actions."

"That's really easy for you to say, pal!" Kelso fumes, storming outside.

"That kid's on dope."

"Ana, why don't we go up to my room, so we can talk," Laurie insists.

I'm hot on her trail as she climbs up the stairs and into her bare bedroom.ย

"What's going on? Why are you home?" I interrogate while plopping onto her bed.

"I'm flunking out."

"What?"

"I'm flunking out of college, okay?" Her eyes widen. "You can not tell Eric."

"I won't, don't worry. For some reason, I trust you more than I should."

Her face takes on a new expression of interest as her lips curl into a devilish smirk. "What's up with Kelso?"

I shake my head violently. "No, Laurie, I can't tell you that."

She rolls her eyes. "Oh, come on. You just said you trusted me. And if you don't tell anyone about my grades, I won't tell anyone about this."

"Well... fine! Jackie's... pregnant."

She gasps. "No way! And Kelso's the father?"

"Yeah."

"That is such a shame. I was hoping to get with him before he left for college."

"That's kind of gross."

"But it's the truth."

I guard the door while Laurie melts the seal on her University of Wisconsin letter. Donna bursts in. "Hey, guys, is Eric around?"

"No, he's at the Hub," Laurie answers. "Anastasia, make sure you're watching the door well."

"What are you doing?" Donna queries.

"My grades. I have to change some Fs into Bs before Red sees them."

I peek into the living room. "Red and Kitty are watching Bonanza, you're fine. Do I have to stand here any longer?"

"Oh, fine, if you really want to leave me that much."

I send her a shit-eating grin and follow Donna as she exits.

"Hey, smart move going on the pill," Laurie calls before the girl can leave. "That was the best thing I ever did. Just wait 'til you get to college."

Donna shudders. "Bye."

I walk into the driveway with her. We're immediately stopped by Jackie zooming toward us. "Guys! Guys! Guess what?"

"You're having twins?"

"No! I'm not pregnant!"

"Oh my god," I mutter.ย

Donna sighs in relief as Jackie giggles.ย

"Jackie, thank god," I blubber as we envelop her in a hug.

"I can forget about this whole ugly thing and put it behind me and never ever-"

Donna grabs her shoulders. "I am not going to let you forget about this, alright? You got really, really lucky. And as your friends, we're not going to let you be stupid about this."

She smirks and looks down at her hands. "We're friends?"

"Shut up," I grumble, failing to hide a smile.

"Guys, I went on the pill," Donna announces.

"Oh my god... you are going to be so popular!"

I bump her lightly with my shoulder.

"Jackie, I didn't do it to be popular! I did it because I'm not going to get stuck in this dinky little town. When this era passes, I'll be able to do whatever I want. And so will you if you don't screw it up now."

"You're right," she nods. "We should probably go tell the guys."

We march off to the Hub, where we find Eric, Kelso, Fez, and Hyde sulking around and drinking Cokes.

"So, Eric. Can I talk to you alone?" Donna invites.

The boy stands to follow her. I sit down at the table while Jackie turns to face the group.ย

"Michael," she says, "I'm not pregnant."

He jumps out of his seat, cheering loudly.

"So you feel tons better, right?"

"Oh, yeah!"

"That is so great. 'Cause you know what? I'm breaking up with you."

My eyebrows raise in surprise. That was kind of badass. "Good for you, Jackie."

"What?" the boys snap in unison.

"Look, Michael, this whole experience has opened my eyes, and nothing will stand in the way of my dream of becoming a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader."

I smack Hyde's arm as he starts laughing quietly next to me. She strides out of the restaurant.

Kelso slowly takes his seat again. "Did she just break up with me?"

"Yup," Hyde chuckles.

"I am so sad for you," I mumble, trying to keep away the grin that threatens my composure.

"May I please have her number?" Fez beams.

"Oh, shut up," Michael wails. "Let's just go home."

I follow them to the bus stop.ย

"So, Donna's on the pill, huh?" Hyde smirks.

I know exactly what he's implying. "Yeah. And it's a good idea for her to do it, too. Of course, it doesn't mean that she'll be fooling around with every guy she meets, so I wouldn't get your hopes up."

This seems to cheer Kelso up slightly. "Burn!"

I smile to myself.ย

"Ouch. Aren't you also on the pill?" Hyde scoffs.

"I am."

"You fool around with every guy you meet."

"Double burn!" Kelso exclaims.

"Since I haven't touched you and don't intend to, I guess that implies you're not a guy?"

"Triple burn!"

Nobody tells him to be quiet for his happiness's sake, but Hyde turns sour.

"I'm a guy. Do you intend to touch me?" Fez pipes up.

I laugh. "Oh, shut up."

Yeah, okay, I didn't like this chapter but here it is. I'm sorry there wasn't a lot of Hyde here.

Anyways, feedback, comments, and votes are always appreciated, and I hope you guys have an amazing day or night!

Love you lots,

Lissy
