I comb through Steven's hair as I sit on his lap. The others in the basement don't think anything of it, but things are different between us.
And in a good way.
Caroline, the girl Fez liked that is now his girlfriend, draws a bag out of her pocket. "Okay, Fez. I got you some Valentine's conversation hearts."
"Oh, well, thank you, Caroline," Fez smiles. "'Be mine.' Okay. 'Sweetheart.' It really is. 'Kiss me.' Well, I'm not about to argue with candy."
She giggles as he pecks her on the lips.
"Fez?" Jackie sneers. "Is there one that says, 'Get a room'?"
"No, but there's one that says, 'Kiss my ass.'"
"Burn!" I chuckle.
"Sorry you had to hear that, Caroline."
"Oh, that's okay," she says politely. "I've got to get going, though. I'll see you tonight. Bye, guys!"
I wave to her kindly as she shuts the door behind her.
"Well, well, well," Fez chortles, leaning against Jackie's chair. "Look who has a lady." He casts a dismissive glance at her. "And to think, I was going to settle for you. Talk about dodging a bullet."
"Hey, check out this article in this magazine!" Kelso gasps, rushing forward to show Eric what he's talking about. "It's about astronauts. I want to do that someday."
"Michael, I think there's a prerequisite for being an astronaut," Jackie frowns. "You have to not be dumb."
"Uh-huh. Look, if they can send a monkey into space, they can send me."
"I don't know, monkeys are pretty smart," Steven shrugs.
I smack him lightly and he retorts by poking me.
"Knock it off," I huff.
A shiver goes down my spine as he rest his head over my shoulder, his breath fanning onto my neck.
"Fine, make fun," Michael grumbles. "When you see my shoe prints on the moon, what are you going to say?"
Eric unwraps a pop. "Probably, 'Hey, some monkey's wearing Kelso's shoes!'"
"Hey, astro-chimp," Steven taunts, "when you come back to Earth, if your parachute doesn't work, you could always use Donna's monstrous panties."
"What are you doing, looking at Donna's panties?" I ask curiously.
"Forman pantsed her in the driveway," he giggles.
"Eric!" I chide.
"I mean, you don't have granny panties. Your panties are actually very nice," Steven cheekily grins at me.
"If you don't shut up, I'll make out with Kelso again."
"Hyde, keep talking!" Michael says excitedly.
"Look, guys, none of that when Donna gets here, okay? I don't need her mad at me on Valentine's Day," Eric warns.
"Alright, Forman, relax," Steven sighs. "Wearing granny panties is a very sensitive issue that I don't find funny and refuse to exploit."
"Good."
As soon as Donna walks in, he tosses his comic book on the coffee table. "Hey, everybody, look, it's Granny Panties!"
Michael starts making his way over to me. "That's my cue."
I shoo him away and glare down at the boy below me. "Hyde," I scold.
"Ah, sorry, it's in my nature to burn. Granny Panties understands. Don't you, Granny Panties?"
"Okay, look, I didn't have anything else to wear!" Donna retorts. "It was laundry day."
Kelso giggles, "Wow, I didn't know they made laundry machines big enough for those panties."
"I didn't know your ass was big enough for me to put my foot in it," I snarl.
"It's fine, Ana," Donna chuckles.
"I am so, so, so sorry," Eric apologizes.
"I'm over it. Can we just forget about this and move on?"
"Really? Because when I saw your sweats around your ankles, I thought I was dead."
"Eric, I said I'm fine!"
"Oh my god. Oh my god, you are so cool! You are seriously, like, the coolest girl ever."
Jackie and I share a look. I've literally told Eric before. When a girl says she's fine, she is not fine.
Kelso beams at us. "Man, I'd be such a good astronaut."
♛
"Hey."
"Hey."
I let Hyde in and close the door behind him.
"Happy Valentine's Day," he grins, handing me a small bouquet of wildflowers.
"Right back at you," I smile, rising up onto my toes to give him a kiss.
I take the flowers and give him my gift, wrapped in a small parcel.
He opens it and raises his eyebrows. "You gave me... my own shirt?"
I shrug. "I stole it months ago, and I know it's one of your favorites, so... Enjoy?"
He chuckles and sets it on the table. "Thanks, Princess."
"Where'd you get these?" I question, placing his gift in a cup of water.
"Uh... at the... store."
I turn. "The store in the grass behind Eric's house?"
He rubs the back of his neck. "Yeah. Sorry."
"Don't apologize," I giggle. "I love them. Anyway, take a seat on the couch. What do you want to drink?"
"What do you have?"
A wicked grin spreads across my lips. "Everything."
He laughs. "Beer?"
"Got it. A beer for you, and a shot or two of tequila for me."
I bring the drinks over and sit next to him.
"Cheers?" he proposes.
"To what?"
"To your lack of granny panties."
I roll my eyes playfully, but clink my glass against his can and take a shot anyway. "Okay, Hyde, you won't be seeing any panties tonight if you keep it up."
He sets the can down and tilts my head so I'm facing him. "Oh, really?"
"Mhm," I hum.
He softly presses his warm lips against mine and I thread my fingers through his hair. I smile into the kiss as he lays me down onto the couch.
"I think," he says in between kisses while his hand trails down to my hips, "I'll have to strongly disagree."
"Shut up," I laugh, playing with the buttons on his shirt.
The front door swings open and he looks up at the intruder, hovering over me.
"Kelso, man, what the hell?" he hisses.
I gently push him off of me and turn my attention to Michael, who stands at the doorway of my house, looking absolutely heartbroken.
"Laurie cheated on me," he croaks.
Hyde runs a hand through his curls. "Good to know. Can you go now?"
"No, no, it's okay," I frown. "We'll continue this later, Steven."
He reluctantly scoots over for Kelso to sit between us and rest his head on my shoulder.
"I was going to give her flowers and a card, you know, to show her how much I appreciated her, and I was about to open the door and some random guy came out..." he whimpers.
"It'll be okay, Mike," I soothe. "It's for the best. You deserve better than her."
"Man, I know I do! But I don't want someone better than her. I want her."
I bite my lip. "You're too good for her."
I can't think of what to say to him, and it freaks me out. Over his head, I successfully get Steven to figure out a way to comfort him.
"Kelso. Let's do a Circle. You'll feel a bit better," he suggests.
"Yeah that's a good idea."
"Okay," Michael nods, standing up.
I press one last kiss to Hyde's lips. "Thank you."
"Yeah, no problem," he shrugs. "You comin'?"
"No," I shake my head. "I'm going to go to Donna's. I'm sure Eric has messed something up and she needs to talk to someone."
"Okay. See you later tonight?"
I wink. "See you."
♛
My instincts were right.
Jackie has apparently already heard about the situation with Michael and Laurie. "Michael cheated on me with Laurie, and now Laurie cheated on him! There is a God, and He's on my side."
"Well, I'm glad you're happy," Donna grumbles. "My boyfriend's a giant baby. 'Ooh, underwear is so funny!'"
"You know what'll make you feel better? Let's go make mean jokes at Michael's expense."
"How would that make me feel better?"
"Because then I'd feel better, and I could cheer you up."
"On what planet did Eric think it was okay to pull down my pants?"
"Right?" I sigh. "Dumbass."
"There are some things that are private. For instance, every thing under my pants!"
"I agree," Jackie sneers. "Keep it to yourself."
"Why doesn't Eric understand that when I say I'm fine, I mean that I will be fine, so long as he kisses my ass for two weeks until I'm fine."
"I've told him time and time again that 'fine' doesn't really mean 'fine,' and he still can't process that," I scoff.
"He's, like, brain-damaged!"
"Look," Jackie huffs, stuffing a heart-shaped chocolate into her mouth, "he's just not a good boyfriend. You should dump him and then we can all move to Dallas and be weathergirls."
"Okay, no," I chuckle, "he's a good boyfriend, but he's Eric. He screws up, you know? I'm pissed at him, too, but at least he knows he made a mistake."
"You're right," Donna agrees. "I'm only going to be mad at him for a few more hours. Then I'll probably kick his ass."
"You know, I bet Michael expects me to feel sorry for him," Jackie rambles. "But I'll be like, 'Aw... Bite it, Casanova!'"
The boy in question opens the door and enters the kitchen. "Hey, guys."
"Hey, Michael, I heard what happened," Jackie beams.
"Yeah, me and Laurie are done."
"Oh my god, doesn't Eric look like a blow pop?" Donna giggles.
"Uh, yeah, sure."
"You're already done with Circle?" I frown.
"No, I just changed my mind. Uh, listen, Jackie, can we go somewhere and talk?"
She wrinkles her nose. "No! Anything you want to say to me can be said in front of Donna and Ana."
"Okay... What happened with me and Laurie got me thinking, and what she did was really a betrayal, and it hurt. So much."
"So you want me to feel sorry for you?"
"No! Don't feel sorry for me. I deserved this. After what I did to you? I don't know if you made the connection, but there are a lot of similarities between what Laurie did to me and what I did to you! Except, you and I were really in love. And you trusted me. Jackie, I let you down. And I'm sorry."
Donna and I look at each other and "aww" quietly.
"Wait, wait, wait. Are you just saying this so I'll give you Valentine's sex? Because this is a holy day, Michael. You should be ashamed of yourself!"
"No. I just said what I wanted to say, and I don't blame you if you never want to speak to me again. So, goodbye."
She watches him as he swiftly leaves.
"Jackie are you okay?" Donna asks.
"Yeah. Sure," she says unconvincingly. "I'm just... sitting here alone on Valentine's Day."
"We're here."
"Yeah, why are you here? You should be with Eric, Donna, who you love... for some reason."
Donna hesitates. "You're right. He's not a blow pop. He's a sweetie pie."
"So go be with him! Take it from someone who has loved and lost. Whatever he did isn't worth being alone on this holy day."
"Thanks, Jackie," the redhead smiles. "I'll see you guys later."
"And you!" Jackie wheels on me as soon as she leaves. "Aren't you fucking Hyde or something by now?"
I nearly choke on my piece of chocolate. "What?"
"Oh, sorry, making love," she corrects herself.
"No, we're not," I deny, clearly flustered.
She gasps. "Oh my god, you so are! When did you guys get back together? Did you go out today? Is that where you two were? Are you official? Did-"
"Jackie!" I hiss. "Please don't make a big deal out of it."
"Okay, okay," she giggles. "Who else knows?"
"I mean, I'd assume Kelso."
"You'd assume?"
"Yeah, he interrupted us when we-"
Big mistake.
"Give me the details!"
"Jackie, I don't think you want to-"
"I'm alone on Valentine's Day, now let me have my fun."
