I release a soft groan as the boy behind me kisses back up to my jawline. His hand rests on my bare waist as I pull the sheets back up to cover him. I reluctantly pull away from him and rise. At this point, I don't care about what he sees.

I clean up and throw on some underwear and an oversized hoodie, not bothering to put on my bra while he gets dressed.ย

"Just to double-check, you're completely fine with this just being a one-night stand?" he asks cautiously.

I smile, turning to him and kissing him. "Freddie, you've asked me that a hundred times tonight, and every time my answer has been 'yes'."

He slips his shirt on over his head. "Okay. Wait, shit. Sorry, do you have a cigarette?"

Never have I had such a polite hookup. I giggle softly. "Yeah."

I carry a pack of cigarettes with me at all times. Not for myself, as I don't smoke, but for any guy who might be cute and needs one. I lead Freddie down the stairs and outside, and hand him a lit stick.

He thanks me and I nod, waving goodbye to him as he drives off. I roll my neck, the weight of my tousled bun falling to each side. I let my long locks fall onto my shoulders and brush a hand through them.

My new phone, one of the gifts my father has given me for Hannukah, rings on the inside of my house. I toss the pack of cigs and lighter on the counter as I pick the device up.

"Volkov," I mumble through a mouthful of cookie.

"Anastasia?"

"Oh, hey, Donna. What's up?"

"The gang is going to a ski house over the weekend and I managed to convince Hyde to let us invite you. Do you want to come?"

"Sure."

"Cool. Come by Eric's tomorrow."

"Okay."

"Bye."

"Bye."

I plop the phone down and hoist myself into the counter. A week or two ago, I would have surprised myself by agreeing, but the little group of misfits has honestly grown on me. I have to keep up appearances at school, so I don't sit with them at lunch, but I often stop by the basement to hang out and occasionally get high.

After eating another five or so cookies, I realize that I should pack for the trip. I ignore the aching in my hips as I climb the stairs back up to my room. I rip the sheets off of the bed and shove them into the washing machine before finding a mixtape of mine to play. I move my waist and bop my head to the beat, having myself a little dance party as I collect things to take on the trip.ย

It takes me longer than it should, especially since I aim to wear the cutest winter outfits possible. Just because I'm going with my friends doesn't mean I can't look good. No- not friends. Best acquaintances.ย They've worked themselves up to Buddy's level. Strangely, I can't wait for the trip. I can tell there'll be some drama. There always is with those kinds of things.

I heft my duffel into the back of the Vista Cruiser and listen to Hyde (unsuccessfully) flirt with Donna. Poor guy.ย

We fit into the car quite nicely, the result of Kelso being kicked off of the trip for kissing Pam Macy. I sit between Eric and Jackie in the front while Fez, Donna, and Hyde lounge in the back.

Unfortunately, this arrangement gives Fez and Hyde a great view of my ass, but Jackie and I are the only ones small enough to comfortably sit on the Hump, and the former makes it clear that she wants the actual seat.

As night falls and Hyde rambles on about his various conspiracy theories, I try my best to keep my eyes open. Jackie keeps referencing the idea that she isn't missing Michael, which we all know isn't true.ย

Not long after her millionth reminder, the car swerves to the side and I'm knocked backward. When we skid to a halt, my feet are on the Hump and my butt is on the floor, effectively folding me in half.

I grunt as I grab the two knees closest to my head and lift myself onto the seat. I turn to face a wide-eyed Hyde. I notice that my hands have slid down to his thighs and I'm seated between his legs, veryย close to his crotch.

A flame of amusement dances in my eyes. "Hi."

He pushes me away begrudgingly as I laugh. Donna and Fez see the events unfold, but are soon distracted when Eric tries to put the car back into motion and fails.

"Oh great, we're stuck!" he growls.

We all pile out of the vehicle, except for Jackie.

"Look, my first snowball!" Fez exclaims, clutching a chunk of ice in his right hand. "I love snow so much, my fingers are numb with joy!"

"Fez, that's frostbite," I chuckle.

His face contorts into one of anger. "How rude! I hate your white man's winter!"

"Get in the car, Fez," Donna chuckles.

Hyde tosses the roadside emergency kit to Eric as they all smush back into the car.

Eric stares at the box in his hands blankly. "What am I supposed to do with this?"

I sift through it until I devise a plan. I find a pack of gum.

"Chew this," I say, holding a stick out to him.

"What?"

"Do you want my help or not?"

I pop a piece into my mouth and dig out a can and candle. I give him the can.

"Put it in the bottom."

He awkwardly does so. I find a rare container of hand sanitizer and throw it at him. I attach the candle to the gum and, with my trusty lighter, start a small fire on the wick.

As the candle heats the can, I press it against the snow to melt it. Afterward, I pour some kitty litter onto the ground for traction.

Eric laughs haughtily. "Who knew the great Anastasia Volkov was good with cars?"

I plop the bag of litter into his arms. "I'm not. I just have common sense."

In about a half-hour, we're filing into the cozy log cabin.ย

"Alright, we made it!" Donna cheers.

I flick on the lights. "Yeah, and just in time. That storm was getting nasty."

Jackie wraps her arms around Eric and Donna. "Okay. There's only one bedroom. It was supposed to be for Michael and me. But since our love is," she whimpers softly, "dead, you two should take it."

"Wanna go check out our room?" Eric beams.

"Yeah!"

Hyde tries to stop them. "Weren't we going to- okay."

"Who said they were the only contenders left for the bedroom?" I whine.

"Princess, we're not going to let you have the bedroom all to yourself. It takes up too much space."

I wink. "Who said I'd be spending the night by myself?"

Fez's complaints about the cold quiet as his eyes gleam with hope. Jackie looks between the three of us, too upset about Kelso to have a real reaction.

Fez goes back to wailing about the winter.ย

"Fez, shut-" Hyde spots a bottle on the table. "Ooh, amaretto. This will warm you right up."

I snatch the bottle from his hands and take a swig before passing it to the boy on the floor. We sit on either side of Jackie on the couch. I move Fez so he's in between my legs and absentmindedly play with his hair.

It's shockingly soft, and I pick up the scent of citrus. He leans into my hands as he sips on the alcohol. "Yum, liquid candy," he giggles.

I smile. He reminds me of Buddy in a weird way. In the puppy way. Everyone is a puppy. I want some more amaretto. I gently pry the bottle from his grasp, gulp a bunch of it down, and pass it back.

"You two want to slow down there?" Hyde chortles.

"Nope." I offer a toothy grin. "I'm going to go take a shower."

"Can I come with you?" Fez begs.

I smack the top of his head and grab some stuff out of my bag, walking to the bathroom.ย

The hot shower is pleasant, calming. The water scorches my skin slightly, but it numbs any thoughts and lets me just... be.

I don't know how long I stay in the shower, but yelling pulls me away from the headspace I'm in. I tie my wet hair up and put my oversized hoodie from the night before back on. I open the door a crack to see what's going on.

Hyde and Donna stand in the middle of the main room, alone.

"God, Hyde, you can be such a jerk sometimes!" Donna spits.

"Aw, come on, I'm just goofin' around."

"No, you're not! Look, I'm up here with Eric, alright? Eric, get it? Not you."

"I know, okay? I know. Do you think I like hitting on my best friend's girlfriend? I don't. But look at you! I can't help it."

"Well, you better."

He grabs her waist and pushes his lips against hers. She jerks away from him and brings a hand across his face. He stands there in shock, rubbing his cheek as she storms off.

I decide that it's safe to come out and silently fold my dirty clothes into my bag. I can feel him watching me. I want to say something, anything, to break the silence, but I haven' the slightest clue what.

For fear of blabbing something stupid out, I sew my mouth shut.

"Spit it out, Princess," he mumbles.

"No."

"Whatever you want to say to me, say it."

"I don't want to say anything."

"Yes, you do!"

I straighten myself, spinning on my heel to face him. "I don't know whatย to say!"

"And what's that supposed to mean?"

"I mean that what you did was a shitty thing to do!"

He stands so close to me that I have to tilt my head up to look at him. "How do you know what I did?"

I falter. What am I supposed to tell him? That I was eavesdropping?

"You're a terrible spy." His expression is... nonexistent. I'm confused. He normally would've laughed at that.

Then he adds the punchline. "For a Russian."

For some reason, that sets me off. I fill with seething rage.ย

"Listen to me, Steven." His smirk drops slightly. "I don't care about what's going on with you and Donna, but I do know that you aren't supposed to kiss your best friend's girlfriend. Especiallyย after she tells you that she doesn't like you."

He stuffs his hands in his pockets and lets his head roll to the side, seemingly bored by the conversation.ย

He doesn't even have the decency to pay attention to me. I grab his chin with my hand and jerk it to the left so he's looking at me.

I drop my hand. "You are such a dick."

"What do you care?"

I don't hesitate in answering. I haven't realized how much I care about Eric and Donna until I say it out loud.ย

"They're my friends! My friends, Hyde. That's something I have never had. So forgive me if I get angry when you mess with them."

He fumes. "They are notย your friends. Friends are people who have been there for you, who care about you. They don't care about you. They only hang out with you because Kitty forces them to. I've known them for years, and let me tell you, they are not your friends."

I shrink away from him. He's not wrong. Why am I defending them? I don't have friends. It's a foreign concept, something that is alien to me. Who am I to call them my friends?

"I'm sorry," I utter coldly. "I guess you're right."

For a moment, I think I see a sign of remorse on his features, but then I remember that it's Hyde. Not the "friendly" Hyde. The "absolute dick of a person who couldn't give two shits about me" Hyde.

I stay silent when Jackie and Donna emerge from the bedroom and the rest of the boys, including Kelso, come back inside. I waste no time in finding a good corner to sleep in.

I spot another bottle of liquor, but I don't feel like drinking. Instead, I try to fall into a blissful slumber, to no avail.
