Everything about Genevieve de Portiers life seemed like something straight from a fairytale. Her father, figure 8's well-loved lawyer Robert de Portiers, was filthy rich, and provided his wife, Ella, and their two children Genevieve and Aster, with anything and everything they could ever need. Genevieve grew up with an expensive education, equally rich friends, and a life practically free of worries. Her family had moved to the Outerbanks when Genevieve was just 5 years old, and they were immediately integrated into Figure 8's lifestyle, including taking on the very rich Ward Cameron as a client. At the time, the Camerons had 2 children, the young Sarah, who was the same age as Gens younger brother Aster, and Rafe, their eldest, born just 3 weeks before Genevieve.

Rafe and Gen were fast friends, being of the same age and constantly being around each other due to their fathers; they grew up together. Gen was there when their younger sister Wheezie was born, Rafe was there when Gen's dad had an affair, Gen was there was Rafe's mom died, as much as he'd let her be there.

But as they grew up, their friendship wasn't always easy. Rafe was cold at times, trauma and grief treating him differently than it did his siblings. His dad half-hated him, his sister didn't like him and Wheezie, well, Wheezie loved her big brother. But the one person who never treated him differently, the one who was always there for him and never judged him; Gen.

Of course, feelings grew on both sides, how could they not? But neither of them ever acted on it, out of fear of ruining the friendship they both held so dearly.

After high school, her friendship with Rafe began to slowly sour. He got hooked on hard drugs and got dragged into his father's relentless greed for money and power.

Blinded by her love for Rafe, she willingly assists him in his dangerous escapades, ignoring his increasing abuse and growing mental instability.

All in the name of love, right?
