act three, chapter one: summer recap
*:ο½₯οΎβ§*:ο½₯οΎ
If you would ask fifteen-year-old Buffy Sommers what her favourite time of the year was, the answer would either be summer or Christmas. Summer was a time to be free and to do whatever you wanted. And Christmas was just cozy. A time you could spend with your family and the Christmas movies naturally.
In the summer, you could take a quick trip with your friends to the beach and there was no one who would stop you from doing so. There could be a party going on and Buffy Sommers and Caroline Forbes were probably the people behind it.
It was a true time of happiness and no one could stop her from being happy for those full two months. It was eight weeks of relief, knowing that you didn't have a deadline for a stupid English report or a History test to study for.
But the last two years' summers had not been as much happiness as she could've hoped for or as she had expected them to be.
Last year it had been Miranda's and Grayson's car crash, where she and Elena had been the only survivors, losing two of the most important persons in their life, and this year it was a infuriating dog named Niklaus Mikaelson, or as he requested her to call him: Nik.
His behaviour has changed a lot over the last few weeks. At least his behaviour towards his mate. He was still an ass to Stefan Salvatore, making the poor vampire do all of his dirty work: killing people - which let up to people getting beheaded most of the time -, torturing people because for some reason it was more amusing for the hybrid to see the Salvatore do it rather than doing it himself.
Over the summer Buffy and Stefan had grown much closer too. Stefan and her had always been good friends and stuff like that, but there was something about spending so much time together that made it impossible for Stefan to hide how much this entire trip with Klaus to search for a pack was killing him from the inside out.
So Buffy had become like a second Lexi to him. Nonetheless whatever she did, Buffy could not seem to get Klaus to leave her alone. Everywhere she went, the Original was following her, getting called a lap dog from time to time.
Somehow he thought she would ever forgive him For killing her sister. Elena was still alive, but Klaus couldn't know that. And Buffy was still mad at him for performing the ritual anyway, no matter how many times she pleaded with him to not do it.
And now, she just had to ask him something and with a snap of her fingers he would deliver it for her. Buffy Summers had never spent so much money - Klaus' money - in the total of five weeks. She didn't see him complaining about her spending his money anyway. So by the time she returned back to Mystic Falls with Stefan, which the girl hoped would be soon, the Summers girl was sure she would have to ask Alaric or Mason to put another wardrobe in her room.
She would ask her mother, but she knew if the two of them were going to put a wardrobe together, probably one thing would go wrong after another. She had once accidentally dropped a wooden plate on her mother's foot and her mom had once by accident almost nailed Buffy's finger to the wall because she was trying to tell Jeremy to put out his cigarette. In other words, total chaos.
Klaus had, from time to time, also brought up the whole soulmate bound. He had even shared a few of his favourite memories of him and his siblings, carefully leaving out all the parts of Esther and Mikael.
And Buffy had to admit, the way he spoke about how he used to protect his little sister Rebekah from the storm, making her little figures out of wood to calm her down, made her open up to him a little more even though she didn't want to.
But just like her and Stefan had grown closer, you couldn't spend a month with someone without at least learning a thing or two why they are the way they are.
She did think it was sweet that Klaus had offered her one of the only two remaining free rooms of the hotel from the first night on the road. She knew Klaus wasn't going to let her share one with Stefan - and he definitely wasn't going to since it was a room with only one bed - but he also knew that after everything he had done to her for the past week back then, she wasn't planning on sharing a room with him.
So he and Stefan ended up sharing a room and not even five minutes after Buffy had disappeared into her room, on the phone with her best friend Caroline, telling her all about the horrible trip here, Klaus had shoved Stefan out of the room, telling the Salvatore ripper that he should be lucky he wasn't pushing him out of the window, sixty floors down.
However, peace was interrupted not even an hour later. Buffy repeatedly knocked on the door, waiting for one of the two to open and when someone finally did, it was Stefan.
"Buffy, what's wrong?" The Salvatore asked worriedly when he saw the blonde's frustrated look back to the room two doors further.
At the mention of Buffy's name, Klaus' head appeared around the corner, but before the hybrid could join them, like he wanted to, Buffy had already dragged Stefan with her to her own room.
"Can you tell me what they're saying?" The Sommers-Saltzman girl asked when Klaus vamped into the room, both curious and annoyed, curious as to what Buffy was talking about and annoyed since he wasn't the person she had come to get.
"What do you mean?" Stefan frowned at her.
"I mean." Buffy spoke, pointing towards the wall that she didn't share with the boys' their room. "These two people were fighting like crazy not even two minutes ago, and I could practically hear a divorce happening. And now it's bloody quiet. I think he killed her." She spoke to Stefan, dragging her with her closer to the wall. "Can you tell if she's okay? Because if he did kill her, we should call the police or something?"
"Are you going to call the police everytime we murder someone this summer, my love?" Klaus asked from behind them, and Buffy raised her eyebrow as she turned around to look at the Mikaelson.
"Good to know that you're probably going on a killing spree tomorrow." The girl rolled her eyes, before looking back at her friend with expecting eyes. "And?"
"Yeah, she's not dead."
"Can you hear her breath?" Buffy asked worriedly, all the while she wished she could have supernatural hearing too. It would be awesome. She knew that listening in to conversations wasn't exactly the polite thing to do, but the girl had always been too curious to not listen. She had gotten that from her mom.
"Yes."
"Oh thank God!" Buffy let out a breath of relief. "Then what are they doing? She suddenly stopped yelling at him. Like literally the last thing she yelled at him was that he was a selfish, little manipulative jerk who only cared about himself, and then boom, silence." Buffy frowned, crossing her arms as she stared at the wall like it held all the answers she needed.
Stefan glanced at Klaus, who looked entirely too amused by the situation. "They're... talking now." Stefan said carefully.
"Talking?" Buffy repeated, her frown deepening. "What kind of talking? Like, 'let's work this out' talking, or 'if you don't leave, I'm calling the cops' talking?"
"More like... whispering," Stefan replied awkwardly, clearly uncomfortable with the task she'd given him.
Buffy narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "Whispering? Oh no. That's never good. Whispering means plotting. Or worseβmaking up. Ugh." She shuddered dramatically. "Can you still hear him? Is he apologizing, at least? Because that man cheated on her with her best friend. She should kill him."
Before Stefan could answer, Klaus stepped closer, leaning casually against the wall with a smirk. "Why are you so invested in this lovers' spat, sweetheart?"
Buffy shot him a glare. "Because if he did kill her, someone needs to do something about it, obviously. And if they're making up, I just wasted my time worrying. Either way, I'm invested now."
Stefan sighed. "They're fine, Buffy. She's laughing now."
Buffy's jaw dropped. "Laughing?! Are you kidding me? After all that yelling, she's laughing? What is wrong with people? He cheated on her? She should be throwing him out of the window!"
"Maybe you're not so different from me at all." Klaus quipped, his grin widening as Buffy turned her glare back to him.
"I am nothing like you!" Buffy snapped, pointing a finger at him.
"I just threatened to throw Stefan out of the window." Klaus spoke.
"Why would you want to do that?" Buffy spoke. "I would understand if it was the other way around, but Stefan's a sweetheart."
"You think so, love?" Klaus raised an eyebrow at her, thinking back about him and Stefan's time in the 20's.
Buffy groaned, turning to Stefan. "Why do I even bother with him?"
Stefan smirked faintly. "You tell me."
Buffy rolled her eyes, ignoring Klaus's amused expression as she headed for the door. "Whatever. I'm going to find something normal to do. Like binge-watch true crime documentaries."
"Fitting." Klaus murmured, earning himself another glare as Buffy left the room.
"Buffy, this is your room!" Stefan called after the girl, who was already halfway down the hallway.
"Right!" Buffy muttered under her breath, turning back around to her room, waiting by the door so that the two men could walk out. "Thanks Stefan." The blonde thanked him as he went back to their room.
"Goodnight love." Klaus spoke sincerely before following Stefan Salvatore.

The next morning was a disaster. A big one. The two vampires had spent more than two full hours trying to get the Sommers-Saltzman girl to wake up, but everytime they asked her if she could just stand up, the girl just muttered 'assholes' or 'dicks' under her breath, before turning around, happily continuing to sleep in the comfortable hotel bed.
Not even opening the curtains of the hotel room worked, it just pissed her off even more. Buffy's hand had reached for something on her nightstand, not knowing what it was, and had thrown it at Klaus' head, who of course caught it without too much trouble.
"Buffy." Klaus sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose as he held up the object she'd thrownβa TV remote. "You're lucky I'm in a forgiving mood this morning. Not everyone gets away with calling me an 'asshole.'"
Buffy groaned, pulling the blankets over her head. "Forgiving mood, my ass. Go away, Klaus. It's too early for your drama."
Stefan crossed his arms, leaning against the wall. "It's almost noon, Buffy. We've got plans, remember?"
"Murder can wait." Came her muffled reply from under the covers. "Sleep is sacred."
Klaus smirked, exchanging a look with Stefan. "Sacred or not, you've tested our patience long enough. Either you get up, or I'll carry you out of this bed myself."
The threat was enough to make Buffy peek out from under the blankets, her hair was a mess around her face. She glared at Klaus. "You wouldn't dare."
Klaus raised an eyebrow, his expression practically daring her to challenge him. "Try me, love."
Without missing a beat, Buffy flopped back onto the pillows and shut her eyes again. "Fine. But if you do, I'm calling HR on you for inappropriate vampire behavior."
Stefan chuckled quietly, shaking his head. "HR doesn't exist for vampires, Buffy."
"It will when I'm done with his ass." Buffy muttered, pulling the blankets tighter around her.
Klaus, clearly amused, leaned down to her level, his voice low and smooth. "You have five seconds to get out of that bed, love."
But even after those seconds, the girl made no movement to get out of bed.
"Fine." Klaus muttered, pulling the blankets off the girl, making Buffy let out a loud gasp, before Klaus placed his hand around her waist and pulled her out of bed with one swift movement.
Buffy let out an indignant yelp as Klaus effortlessly lifted her off the bed, her hands flailing for a moment before landing on his shoulders. "What the hell, Klaus?! Put me down!"
"Not until you stop behaving like a petulant child, love." Klaus said smoothly as he held the girl up in bridal style, a smug grin plastered across his face as he carried her toward the center of the room.
Stefan stood off to the side, arms crossed, clearly enjoying the show. "This is the most entertaining morning I've had in a while."
Buffy glared at Stefan. "You're supposed to be the reasonable one! Do something!"
Stefan shrugged. "You're the one who threw a remote at his head. I'm staying out of this one."
Buffy huffed and turned her fiery gaze back to Klaus. "You do realize this is kidnapping, right? And highly illegal."
Klaus chuckled, entirely unfazed. "I'm fairly certain the law doesn't apply to me, sweetheart. Besides, you weren't cooperating. Drastic measures were required."
Buffy narrowed her eyes, a dangerous glint in them. "Put. Me. Down. Or I swear, Klaus, you'll regret it."
"Will I?" Klaus teased, his tone dripping with amusement.
Without warning, Buffy reached up and yanked on his hair, making him wince. He quickly set her down, his hands instinctively going to smooth his now-mussed locks. "That was entirely unnecessary!"
Buffy smirked, crossing her arms. "So was dragging me out of bed, but here we are." And not even a second later, she trudged toward the bathroom, pointing a finger at him as she walked. "You're on my list, Klaus. My very long list of people I'm plotting revenge against."
Klaus chuckled as she disappeared into the bathroom, turning to Stefan with a satisfied grin. "She's delightful, isn't she?" He turned his gaze back towards Buffy, who just made her way into the bathroom, slamming the door shut behind her, with an adoring look in his eyes. It was easier to be kinder and more the way he wanted to behave to get Buffy to except the soulmate bound, now that they weren't in Mystic Falls anymore, where he had to be the big bad hybrid.
Stefan just shook his head, laughing softly. "You're lucky she didn't stab you with something. She did once with Damon for trying to kill her father."
"There's always tomorrow." Klaus replied, completely unbothered.
