❝ She smiled sweetly, she said you can have mine. ❞
"Please, mom. I want it." The six-year-old little boy named Drew pleaded, dragging her mom's clothes to the ice cream truck that parked near the kiddie see-saw.
His mother sighed in defeat, "Alright, baby. But be sure to brush your teeth when we get home."
"Yes, mommy." A dimple on little Drew's face as he smiles, excitedly run to the truck.
"Oh my gosh! This kid! Wait for me, baby!" Approaching the vehicle, the mother said loudly, rummaging her shoulder bag to get her wallet.
"Here's your yummy strawberry ice cream with marshmallows." The middle-aged male vendor smiled, handing the ice cream to the blonde little girl, maybe around Drew's age, in front of the line.
"Thank you." She smiles so sweet, placing her polaroid picture of herself on the deck of the truck, eyes were glued on the ice cream, happily staring at it.
Her mother also smiled at the vendor and handed him the money.
"Don't forget to pick up your picture." The mother reminded her daughter in which the little girl nodded.
Behind the little girl, Drew was patiently waiting in the line. An excited wide smile formed on his lips as he couldn't wait to taste his favorite ice cream.
The little girl moved aside, making Drew step closer. "Um, can I have one ice cream?"
"Of course you can have, young man. What flavor do you want, sweetheart?" The vendor chuckled, as he couldn't contain himself to grin mesmerizing Drew's cute little innocent face.
"Strawberry, please." Little Drew excitedly muttered., eyes were glimmering with passion and excitement.
"I'm sorry to say this, young man. But we're out of a strawberry." The vendor frowned then he pointed the blonde little girl's ice cream on her hand, "That's the last one we got."
Drew looked at her ice cream and his wonderful smile fades away as his energetic presence got drained.
"Don't be sad. You could try the other flavors." The vendor encouraged him, trying to lighten up his mood.
Drew pouted, still staring at her ice cream. Strawberry is the only flavor Drew orders in an ice cream store or truck. He is a strawberry guy and you couldn't push him to the other chocolate or cheese flavor or change his preference in just like that.
The blonde little girl placed her sight on him with pity. She felt bad for the little boy. She felt bad for taking away his favorite flavor of ice cream. She was raised by generous, loving parents. There's no way she could just walk away, leaving the stranger with his unshed tears.
The little girl went closer to him, picked up his left hand, and let him hold her ice cream. "Here."
Confused little Drew knitted his eyebrows, eyes were blinking at the ice cream. He shook his head. "B-but it's yours. You can't share your food with strangers."
"Silly. I mean you can have mine." She smiled the sweetest.
From that moment, Drew's heart pumps so fast, hearing her beautiful voice, seeing her million-dollar smile, her kindness runs on his skin, as the soft breeze blew her curly blonde hair in the air.
He felt like the luckiest little boy on Earth. He could describe her as an angel. Because not all people can do the same as what she did.
"Really?" Drew asked, still can't believe her.
She nodded and move the ice cream to his chest. "Take it."
"But what about you?"
"I'm just gonna tell my mommy to buy me another one."
She smiled. "Eat well."
"Thank you, uhmm..."
Eat well.
Eat well.
Eat well.
Thirteen years have been passed and yet these two words keep rewinding in his head until now.
Staring at the area next to the rusty see-saw he used to ride on, Drew McIntyre, the little boy who let out tears when he didn't get his strawberry ice cream, is now a thirty-year-old guy, graduated with a bachelors degree in communication, currently working as Public relations specialist in an executive company.
Mesmerizing the view of the park, he smiled weakly. Wishin' he could see the little girl who gave her ice cream to him, his first crush, again.
So suddenly, he brings out something and stared at the picture hidden from his wallet. It was the picture of the sweet, kind, loving, warm-hearted, and a very generous blonde little girl.
"Thank you, uhmm..." Drew thanked her right away. The little girl was about to say her name when her mom suddenly called her telling her they need to go home already.
The girl runs to her mom and just like that, she vanished from his sight. Little Drew felt sad. He didn't even get her name.
When he placed the coins on the deck, his palm felt something. He picked it up and smiled. At least he got her picture.
After that day, little Drew couldn't help but think about the lovely blonde. Every night, he looks at her picture and promised himself that he will find his first crush when he gets a little older and will marry that girl someday.
But he didn't succeed. He didn't found her. After long years of searching, he isn't a robot tho, Drew gets tired and felt hopeless.
That's why he stopped looking for her.
The reason why he also stopped searching for her is that there's already a woman that owns his heart. You read it right. Drew's getting married next month to the woman he met during job interviews. The woman who made him feel complete again.
"Maybe we're not meant for each other." He mumbled and put the picture back on his wallet.
Some things are meant to happen, just not meant to be. Some things are meant to come into your life, just not meant to stay.
Leaving the memorable park, it's gonna be the last time he's doing that.
After the grand wedding, Drew's wife smiled seeing her husband is sleeping peacefully on the bed.
She tied her blonde hair up, blonde? Yeah. Drew married a blonde woman too and her name is Kelly. As you can see, Drew is really into blonde women. She went downstairs to cook something. After that, she went upstairs to get something on the table.
As she picked up her lotion, she accidentally shoved her husband's wallet to the floor. She kneeled to pick it up but then a picture suddenly fell sluggishly.
Kelly furrowed her brows seeing the blonde little girl's vintage picture. In a swift way, a lot of question boomed on her mind. Drew never showed this picture to her before.
"Good morning, honey." Drew greeted with his accent, coming out from the bathroom, slinging his face towel on his broad shoulders.
"There's a picture fell from your wallet and uhm...."
"Oh, that?" Drew approached his wife and hugged her from the back. "That was my first crush. I was six years old when I met her. She has a big heart. I mean she just gives me her strawberry ice cream that day."
"Then with that picture, I tried to find her but I stopped too. Also, I didn't get her name."
His wife turned around to him, "Because her mother called her saying they need to go home."
Drew knitted his brows in surprise and asked, "How did you know? Wow! You're such a great guesser, honey."
"I can't believe I married the guy I gave my strawberry ice cream to just to stop him from crying." Kelly chuckled in disbelief, touching his structured jawline.
Drew was speechless. He was surprised. He couldn't formulate a response. Who would have thought that he married his first crush without even knowing it?
"You know what, you should have told me about this sooner. You should have told me that the ice cream flavor you only eat before was strawberry..."
Drew pulled her closer to him and hugged Kelly tightly.
"Thank you, Kelly." He whispered.
"For what? For the ice cream?" She chuckled softly.
"For making me the happiest man alive from thirteen years ago until now."
