❝Welcome me into your arms again. ❞
/ SHORT SUMMARY /
"If you will ever change, maybe...there's a chance that I would love you." He stated looking straight into her eyes. She looked at him and snorted. "I'm serious." He added.
Kay Lee Ray pressed her lips together. She refused to say anything. She didn't know why Damian Priest, of all people, followed her in the college university she miraculously got in.
There's a voice telling her the most obvious reason but she refuses to believe it.
There's no way!

"You know what? This is the third time, Kay Lee Ray," He scolded and she couldn't help but rolled her eyes.
"I never thought I'd get caught. I always thought if I hide it well, then no one will know." She brushed her hair behind her ear.
"People called you slut for three-timing, you turn from worse to worst." Damian Priest bluntly said to her face.
"Who cares about what they think? It doesn't matter to me." She retorted, staring at the dark sky.
"When are you going to take your life seriously?" Damian had no idea why had asked. It wasn't any of his business, to begin with.
He knows Kay Lee Ray since middle school, she got bullied a lot by the girls in her section. When she's in high school, she turned into a different leaf and started going out with boys without caring in the world. She pursued men who had a girlfriend, caused a lot of breakups in their batch, and didn't even regret a single bit of it.
She's the worst.
"I don't really know why you're here, lecturing me about the current scandal of the university which is obviously me," She chuckled. "But I'm glad you followed me all the way here." She mumbled the last part and yet Damian Priest heard it clearly. She stared at him, no smile or anything but Damian couldn't stand it and looked away.
"Why'd you decide to follow me?" Kay Lee Ray asked.
Damian Priest sighed then shook his head. "Why would I follow you when I lived here first. This is my hometown, besides our university is close to my house so I went for it. I need to move on with my life too."
Kay Lee Ray heard the last part but didn't pry. He must have had reasons, if he wanted to tell her, he would on his own. Besides, it's Damian Priest. He didn't want to encourage friendly chatter.
And yet a voice asked her, 'Then why is he here chatting with you?'
She was ready to go home. She turned to look at her friends, not far from them who keeps flirting and obviously drunk. The bill was paid for. She had no reason to stay. Tessa Blanchard could take care of herself; she didn't need a babysitter.
Besides, Kenny Omega is with her.
"Out of everyone in our batch, you have accomplished the most." Damian suddenly said.
"You meant my relationship record back in high school?"
Damian chuckled, "Obviously, not like you graduated with honors."
"I managed to graduate, that's all that matters." Kay Lee Ray brags which made Damian snorted.
"Wanna ditch them?"
Damian raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"You can't tell me you don't see it."
Damian snickered. This was a side of Kay Lee Ray he'll never get tired of. She's always been cheeky, the fact she wanted to take off and leave her friend behind, who was drunk was interesting. Then again, Kenny was with Tessa. It wasn't like he was going to do anything insane.
"Show me around the place, it's your hometown." Kay Lee Ray jumped to her feet and smiled at Damian.
It was only eight-thirty on a Saturday night. He couldn't use any type of excuse about places closing soon as they'd all be open for another four hours. For some reason, he agreed. He could have flat out refused and just went home. Whatever his reason for agreeing, he couldn't take it back cause that would be even more annoying to deal with. When he stood, he nodded toward the north.
For the first few minutes, they walked in silence until Kay Lee Ray ask something. She just never shuts up.
"Do you like it here?" She asked.
Damian never gave it much thought. It's his hometown but he doesn't have any special memories. Although he knew about every restaurant around and most of the bars because of his childhood friend, Isaiah Scott.
"It seems nice," Kay Lee Ray said, clasping the strap of her purse. "I want to know every corner of streets so if a bitch started going after my life, I know how to get away."
Damian looked at her, the corners of his mouth turning upwards.
She noticed him watching her. "What? Why are you smiling?"
"I'm not smiling," Damian said, shoving his hands in the pockets of his hoodie. She continued to stare at him, a look of smugness lingering. He sighed and kept his attention on the path ahead. "I expected you'd say something like that. It just reminded me how stupid you were in high school."
"Oh please, I was the best in high school!" Kay Lee Ray said, tapping Damian's shoulder lightly. "Until that Adam Cole rejected my kissable lips and that's where my misery started. All the boys I tried to pursue rejected me. How dare they rejected me? I'm KAY LEE RAY!"
Damian shrugged. "Maybe because you're the worse girl out there."
"Said the person who stole my list and gave it back at graduation."
Of course, Kay Lee Ray knows about the list. Damian Priest gave it back to her on their graduation day. It was a stupid list, full of men she dated and dumped. She played with their feelings and never took them seriously. Also names of men, she's targeting. What made Damian Priest mad was because his name's not on the list. Even Cameron Grimes name is in there and Pete Dunne. It's not like he wants his name in her list but he felt offended.
He was the one behind her rant. The reason why most guys rejected her wasn't because of Adam's rejection. No, it was because of him. He warned the men in the list, exposed Kay Lee Ray's secret, and they felt disgusted.
What drove him crazy was because of Austin Theory, his friend shows concern to Kay Lee Ray back then in high school despite knowing the list.
Kay Lee Ray crossed her arms. "Then again, you were the only one who was nice to me."
Damian glared. "Nice? I'm not fucking nice."
"You were," She laughed. "You saved me from the girls who bullied me in middle school. Come to think of it, I still haven't thanked you yet."
"That was ages ago so I have no recollection of it." A lie.
Kay Lee Ray smirked. "It doesn't change the fact that you helped me. I'll definitely thank you someday when I'm ready."
"You don't have to."
"Wait." Kay Lee Ray touched his arm for a brief second and faced him head-on. Her eyes locked with his and her lips pursed. She leaned forward, closing the gap between them. He could smell her perfume: peach with a hint of strawberry. As someone who keeps flirting with a bunch of idiots, she smells really good. "I will. If that day ever comes, take care of me."
Damian had two options, he could blow it off or he could stop their conversation and yet he found himself enjoying it. "If you will ever change, maybe...there's a chance that I would like you." He stated looking straight into her eyes. She looked at him and snorted. "I'm serious." He added.
Kay Lee Ray pressed her lips together. She refused to say anything. Damian Priest just indirectly confessed his feelings to her. Well sort of? There's a voice telling her that he's really serious but she refuses to believe it.
There's no way!
Damian tried to hold in his laugh, opting to just smile and shake his head. Kay Lee Ray laughed, bumping him with her shoulder before continuing down the sidewalk. They returned to a comfortable silence.
"Come on," Damian said.
Kay Lee Ray nodded and gestured for him to lead the way.

"Why are you so gloomy? Don't tell me you got attached to our batchmates? Ahaha, look at them crying just because we graduated." Damian mocked as he sits next to her.
"I'm going to do something stupid first so wait here." Kay Lee Ray announced as she stood up. Damian raised his brow but didn't bother to follow her.
Damian noticed how Kay Lee Ray behaves for the last three years in college. She never dated someone on their second year up until now, she focused on her studies which made Damian proud. He wonders what made the bitchy and flirty Kay Lee Ray changed her mind and stop the old habits. Not like he missed that part of her, he's just curious.
"What the fuck happened?" Damian asked after seeing Kay Lee Ray's swollen cheeks.
"Nothing, it doesn't matter."
"That's nothing! Who slapped you?" Damian furiously asked.
"Compare to the pain I brought back then, this is nothing." She mumbled sadly.
"What are you talking about?"
"I apologized to the women who wanted to kill me for stealing their boyfriends before. Five of them got mad and slapped me." She explained.
Damian Priest stared at her dumbfounded at what he heard.
"It actually hurts and the fact that this doesn't fix anything made me mad at myself. I was such a troublemaker flirt back then. Thinking about it makes my head hurts." She added.
"Why?"
"Huh?"
"Just like you said, nothing will change. You already hurt them, the pain was done. Why would you lower your pride, apologized, and let them beat you up? This isn't like you!" He shouted making Kay Lee Ray smiles.
"I can't believe it took me years to do this, realized what I've done, and felt guilty to the bones. I don't know what to do, I just don't want to regret more." She answered.
He didn't say anything. He didn't have anything to retort, to begin with. He knows deep down that she did the right thing. She learned from her mistakes and apologized for it. It didn't change the fact that she hurt a lot of people but this is a big step of her. Maybe, he just got mad because she got hurt.
Kay Lee Ray never got hurt physically in high school. No one dares to fight her because she'll attack first using her brain and not her fist.
This was the first time someone lays a finger on her.
Damian examined her for a moment and scoffed. "Idiot."
Kay Lee Ray shrugged, "If someone told me that the greatest Kay Lee Ray, years from now will bow her head and apologize...I'll never believe them."
"You're absolutely right."
"And oh, there's more stupid thing I'll do."
"And that is--"
Damian Priest didn't finish his sentence when he felt soft lips on his.
It was just a peck, not extreme and wild and not his first kiss but at that moment, he felt like he's in bliss.
After what she did, she took a deep breath before she speaks once again, "I've been playing with people's heart my whole life, never for once took someone seriously. You annoyed me on high school, messed up my plan and warned the men I'm targeting, I knew that you sabotaged me but I didn't take revenge on you."
She holds his hand before she continued, "I was surprised to see you in college and never would've thought that I, Kay Lee Ray enjoys someone's presence. It's not my style to date, I'm just a flirt, swaying people's feelings. Love is just a game. Some people spend a lifetime looking for love. How funny that I have love right here all of the time..."
"I tried to deny it because you're the only friend I have and I can't lose you...but fuck that shit! I'm willing to take the risk because all you ever bring me are joy and happiness. There's never a single day that boring, you turn my life around and taught me to be stronger, to be wiser, and to be braver."
Damian was about to speak when Kay Lee Ray cut him off, "I'm not done yet."
"Thank you for saving me then and for making me realize that life could be fun." She grinned at him and released her hold of his hand.
He closed the gap and hugged her tightly. "I'll take care of you, Kay Lee Ray." Damian simply replied.
Kay Lee Ray gleamed after hearing those words, "You remembered!" hugging him back in the process.
"I never forget."
