ACT II CHAPTER 13
( i get drunk on jealousy )
EVELYN MANE IS THE FIRST VICTOR IN HISTORY TO GAIN A SCORE OF TWELVE. No one has achieved it before. Katniss and Peeta gained a twelve also, but Evelyn's was announced first.
The blonde woman was confused as to why she scored high. Until she realised it was a tactic to get other Tributes to try and kill her first. Eliminate the threat.
Currently, Eve was getting her make-up finished off by the normal prep team. Angelina brushed out her hair, although there's not a single tangle insight. Evelyn thinks she finds comfort in it because of how long and wavy the blonde is.
A large television screen in front played Cashmere and Gloss talking with Caesar while she got her dress fitted into, "You two made The Games a family affair." The host spoke, "You became everyone's brother and sister. I don't know how we're going to let you go."
"We're not going by choice." Gloss told, the audience sighing in response and Cashmere began crying.
"So sweet. So sweet." The purple haired man muttered then turned to the sister, "Are you all right, dear?"
Cashmere sobbed even more, "I'm sorry. I just can't stop crying!"
Evelyn scoffed, rolling her eyes at the pair, "Does anybody actually believe this shit?" she asked Ezra who was tending to her jewellery.
"Apparently, everyone." He nodded towards Angelina who was sniffing away and Raven who had water running down her caked face. "You, my dear, are done!"
Evelyn smiled to the man before giving herself a look in the mirror. Her dress was sleeveless. White with silver stars and tiny circles scattering it. It shimmered in the lighting, making her stand out gorgeously. The clothing ended at her knees and the chest area was a v-shape.
Her hair had been pinned half up with a silver star clip, and the rest down. Rhinestones sat underneath her eyes and the eyeshadow matched the colours: a glittery grey. The heals on her feet were a simple white.
The jewellery consisted of dangling chain earrings which ended with a small star. Evelyn desperately wanted to wear her golden necklace and blue bracelet, but Ezra informed her it didn't match.
Eve turned to face her stylist, "Thank you, Ez." the pair grinned at one another before she left to find Finnick.
Passing Zane and Haymitch who were pointing and laughing at the crowd's choice of outfits, she couldn't help but shake her head while discretely smirking.
Finnick was next to Johanna speaking about whatever, when he saw the girl of his dreams in the corner of his eye heading their way, "My god." His voice was caught in his throat.
He ceased any conversation with Johanna, which confused her and made her turn around. The confusion replaced with a light smirk when she saw Evelyn.
"Don't you look hot!" Johanna exclaimed as the blonde now stood next to them.
Evelyn blushed slightly with a short chuckle, "See you're stylist is sticking with trees." She humoured, gaining a sarcastic eye roll and a laugh off Jo.
Finnick was still speechless... until Johanna laughed at him and Evelyn turned to him with the warmest smile. The woman dressed as a tree walked off, leaving the pair alone.
"You look beautiful." He grinned, looking her up and down. Nervousness swirled inside his stomach. Tonight, he'd be telling the whole of Panem his love for Evelyn, even if he doesn't mention her name.
Looking down for a second then facing him again, she replied, "Thank you. It's nice to see you wearing actual clothes." The duo laughed.
Finnick smirked, "Don't complain. You know you loved it, star." he gave her a wink before a name was called out.
"Now, the time has come for someone we've been desperately waiting to hear from. The one and only Golden Boy, Finnick Odair!" Caesar roared out to everyone.
Finnick walked onto the stage, greeting everyone with waves and his smirk. The howling and high pitched voices were almost deafening.
The presenter and interviewee shook hands, the microphone being swapped between them. "Finnick, Finnick, Finnick." Caesar began, "I understand that you have a message for somebody out there. A special somebody. Can we hear it?"
In that moment, Evelyn felt her heart drop. The person she's helplessly in love with, already has someone. But who? She wondered, and why wouldn't he tell her? The blonde woman's mended soul slowly cracked.
"Who's he talking about?" Evelyn questioned Zane. The mentor noticed how her face dropped, yet he couldn't help but chuckle, "What?" She hastily spat.
"You're so oblivious." He shook his head and walked away.
What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Johanna joined her side and chocked back the laughter threatening to fall out her mouth, "You alright there princess?" She teased.
Evelyn sent her a glare before returning her view back to the screen with Finnick on it.
Finnick smiled, eyeing the camera with a soft gaze, "My love, you have my heart for all eternity and if... If I die in that arena, my last thought will be of your lips."
Jealousy took over her. An emotion she never thought she'd feel over him. It was clear by the scowl on her face that she was hurt, but when her name was called out, she didn't think anything else of it.
"She's our favourite female Victor, a shining Star in everyone's eyes... Evelyn Mane!"
The crowd roared and went more wild once Evelyn appeared. An award winning smile plastered on her face as she blew kisses and waved to everyone. A few people fainting caught her eye.
Reaching Caesar, they kissed each other cheek's, then began.
"Doesn't she look absolutely stunning everyone." Caesar spoke, the crowd cheering in response and a short chuckle from Eve. "I must say, we've missed you dearly and we'll be so sad... to see you go."
"Thank you, Caesar. And I'll miss you all too." Evelyn told. The crowd sighed at the thought of her possible death.
"How have you been since the last time I saw you?" He asked, and Evelyn couldn't help but think that question had something to do with her brother.
The blonde woman wanted to tear up at the thought of Ace, but she held her barrier up, "I've been really great." She lied, "My life back at District Four has been better than ever."
The audience voiced 'awe' sounds and there were a few whistles amongst them. Caesar sent her a warm smile as if her words touched his heart, "Now, I heard you have something to tell your little sister, Faye, is that correct?"
"Yes, see I didn't get to say goodbye to her." Evelyn frowned, "So I thought it'd be good to say it on here." People whimpered in front, suddenly sad.
Caesar nodded and held the microphone towards her. She looked at the closest camera dead in the eye.
Quietly clearing her throat, Evelyn began, "Hey, little Star. I know how hard this is for you, but I also know you're stronger than anyone else I've ever met. I love you so much and I miss you terribly. Remember, when you look up at the stars, I'll be looking at the same ones. You've already lost one sibling in the Games, I will make sure you don't lose another. I promise you."
Water began trickling down her cheeks, most of them were fake, but some were real by the thought of never seeing her sister again. But there was a rebellion in motion, she's adamant the two will be reunited.
Evelyn noticed the crowd sniffling and wiping their noses, some cried into their significant others shoulder and more weeped loudly.
Then, Capitolists screamed 'Cancel the Games!' out towards the host. Fear flashed across his now pale face.
"Well, it's been very lovely to have you." Caesar rushingly spoke, wiping away a drop of water that escaped his eyes. He held up her arm, "Evelyn Mane everyone! Star of the Capitol!"
As Evelyn walked back stage, she brushed away the tears and a smirk made its way across her lips. Finnick, who was ready to comfort her, looked stunned at how she managed to flip her emotions like that.
"What?" Eve blinked at him, Johanna and Zane.
Finnick shook his head, closing his gaping mouth, "Nothing." He smiled.
The duo from District Four stood on their podiums and were lifted to the back of the stage along with the other Tributes that were already interviewed. In a few seconds, it will be Johanna's turn.
"We have seen a lot of tears here tonight. But I see no tears in Johanna's eyes." He told the audience before facing Jo, "Johanna, you are angry. Tell me why."
The woman scoffed, rage and frustration clear on her expression, "Well, yes, I'm angry. You know, I'm getting totally screwed over here."
"Uh-huh."
"The deal was that if I win the Hunger Games, I get to live the rest of my life in peace. But now you want to kill me again." She chuckled humourlessly, turning to the crowd and cupping her hands around her mouth, "Well, you know what? Fuck that!
Everyone let out gasps while Evelyn grinned greatly, stifling back her chuckles.
"And fuck everybody that had anything to do with it!" She stomped off stage fuelled with hatred for the Capitol.
"All right, then. One woman's opinion." Caesar sarcastically spoke, "Who's next?"
Time passed quickly and the District Twelve Victors were ready to be interviewed. The crowd began cheering as Katniss walked across the stage in a white dress, Evelyn assumed it was her wedding dress.
"Katniss Everdeen, you look fabulous. Doesn't she?" Caesar proudly announced, the audience clapped in response, "My, my! Whoo, whoo, whoo. Now, Katniss, this is a very big and very emotional night for all of us. Wouldn't you say?"
"Oh, don't go crying on me now, Caesar." She said jokingly.
He laughed, "I can't make any promises. You know me."
Katniss laughed as well, although Evelyn could tell it was fake, "You know I wouldn't believe you, even if you did."
All the people watching chuckled along with a wheezing host, "I love her! The Girl on Fire is so cheeky." A small pause meant the mood would be dimming, "But, Katniss, on a more serious note. I think we're all here a little disappointed, more than a little disappointed, that a certain wedding did not take place. Aren't we folks?"
The crowd made 'awe' sounds in agreement, "Alas. But am I correct in assuming that this is the gown that you would have worn on that day, yes or no?" He hovered the microphone towards her.
"Yes, President Snow thought everyone would want to see it."
"President Snow, as usual, was right." He chuckled, "Was he not, folks?" the audience cheered again, "I love it! I love it! Don't you love it, folks? It's incredible. It's so gorgeous. Will you do us the honour? Please? Please? Please?" Caesar held his arm out, gesturing for a twirl.
Katniss did just that. Sparks of fire set on the bottom, turning the white gown into a dark coloured theme. Katniss held her arms out, Mockingjay wings showing from behind the dress and flapped along her arms.
Evelyn was amazed by the design, she knew Cinna must've gone out of his way to do this. She also knows... this will be something Snow won't like.
Caesar stammered, "It's got feathers. It's like a bird. It's like a, um..."
"Like a Mockingjay." Katniss stated.
"Your stylist certainly has outdone himself this time, hasn't he? What theatricality! Cinna! Take a bow." He called out to the stylist. Cinna stood up waving and did one short bow.
Soon after, Peeta arrived on stage wearing a suit that matches his 'fiancé's' wedding dress.
"But, Peeta, the wedding, the marriage, never to be?"
He watched as the interviewee shook his head, "Well, actually, we got married. In secret." The audience gasped from this response.
"A secret wedding? All right. Do tell." Caesar said.
Peeta waited a moment to collect his words, "We... We want our love to be eternal."
"Of course." He nodded, the crowd sighing in adoration.
"You know, Katniss and I, we've been luckier than most. And I wouldn't have any regrets at all if it weren't... If..."
Hushed whispers echoed the stadium. Caesar knitted his eyebrows tighter curiously, "If it weren't for what? What?"
"If it weren't for the baby."
Evelyn's eyes widened as she faced Finnick who turned to look at her as well. They both shared a shocked look while others gasped.
Moments later, the madness came. People shouted and yelled, nearly all saying 'Call off The Games!'. Clamoured screams erupted into everyone's eardrums.
The blonde woman lingered her eyesight over to Katniss, noticing her shaken body and partially shocked face.
"All right. This is news! Let's find out more. Calm down. This is news to all of us. All right." The purple haired man attempted to calm the humans down.
Caesar whispered something into Peeta's ear, most likely telling him to join the others, and he did so before hugging his 'wife'.
All Victor's looked at one another, a smirk on Johanna's and Evelyn's face. Everyone held hands - Evelyn grasping Finnick's and Beetee's - and raised them highly. Proudly.
There was no backing out of the rebellion now.
