Poe Dameron x reader [1]
Panicking was second nature to me. Just like flying was to Poe. However, if he knew what I knew, I think he'd just about be in panic mode, too. In fact, if I wasn't scared stiff, I'd probably tell him right now just to see what his reaction would be. But then again, I'm not that brave.
There was the split for me and Poe, I suppose. He was always off on some adventure, flying to who knows where to fight who knows who. Always the soldier, always the hero. Not me, though. No, I was just a face in the crowd, a nobody in the background. Sometimes I still found myself surprised that he had chosen me, fallen for me.
Actually, it didn't make any sense. What was so special about me? I wasn't the prettiest nor the smartest. I had never done anything particularly interesting with my life or achieved any ounce of fame. I didn't even have a very interesting personality. In short? Well, yeah, there was that - I was short. But unless you found that appealing, that was all I had going for me.
Yet somehow, Poe did find me appealing - immensely so. So much so that we started dating not long after we met. And it had been bliss, knowing him and falling in love with him. He was everything high above me that I'd always daydreamed as a girl about. And yet...I still had an increasing amount of insecurity over his feelings for me.
This news, however, may change things. Although I'm not sure it's for the better...could be for the worse. Deliberating over this impending life-changing event as I chewed my lip, BB-8 rolled into the room, all whirls and beeps. A grin split my face. I may be biased but this seriously was the cutest droid I knew.
As the droid rolled over to me, beeps emitted from within and I laughed in response.
"Well, I highly doubt he'd appreciate you reporting that but you're right - I'm sure it was amusing to watch Chewbacca lose a game of Sabacc to a porg."
BB-8 seemed contemplative for a moment before eliciting three more beeps.
I sighed, shrugging my shoulders, "No, not yet. I mean, how am I really going to tell him? We've talked about having kids, sure. But sometime in the future - not in the middle of a war like this. I want to raise children but not in an Imperial-controlled galaxy,"
The next beep out of his circuits earned him a pointed glare as my dark hair fell around my face in a curtain.
"Yes, I'm well aware it's too late for that. Thank you so much for your support, BB-8..." I trailed off then with a deep sigh as I fell back onto the brightly-colored pillows on my bed, "I just don't know how he's going to take it. I mean, he's still so young to be tied down with a baby like this..."
Another beep and a whir and I nodded once more in response before he rolled out of the room, already late for another game of Sabacc. For a droid, BB-8 was insanely popular. Hauling myself out of bed, I wandered into the kitchen area only to find Finn sitting at a table by himself eating nausages and dustcrepes in an angry fashion. Greeting him, I sat down in the chair opposite before cracking a slight smile.
"You should know better than to bet against a porg, Finn. They're fiesty. How much exactly did you lose, anyway?" I arched an eyebrow.
Shooting me a sulky expression, he replied with a pout, "300 Imperial Credits,"
I gaped at him then laughed out loud, "I reiterate: you should know better than that."
Finn made a face once again before we fell into a comfortable silence as he offered me a dustcrepe and I took one gratefully. Biting into the savory tanginess of the roll-up, I let it melt on my tongue.
"So what's bothering you then?" my friend asked unexpectedly.
Startled, I stopped eating for a moment before returning to chewing. Hesitantly, I eyed Finn. I knew I could trust him. I'd known it ever since Poe introduced us. He had a friendly disposition and warm eyes. Besides, he had saved Poe's skin countless times. If that wasn't worthy of trust, what was? After swallowing, I let out a soft sigh along with the news I had been withholding.
Finn's reaction was a priceless rollercoaster: shock, anxiety, joy, followed by concern. We both knew exactly what this would mean - not only for myself and Poe but for all of the Rebel Alliance members on this ship. We would all be affected. Finn slowly let out a breath and arched his eyebrows once in surprise before shrugging.
"Well, that would explain why you just finished off the rest of my food then," he commented, pointedly glancing at the empty plate dusted with a few crumbs.
Blushing scarlet, I gingerly placed the half-eaten last bite of nausage back on the plate. Finn only rolled his eyes in a mocking manner before pushing it back towards me to finish.
"Are you going to keep it?" he asked me, tilting his head slightly as he spoke.
The question caught me off-guard. I suppose, unconsciously, the choice had already been decided. The possibility had never even occurred to me - not once this past week that I'd known. The truth is: any other time, I would have been overjoyed to discover I was pregnant. And with Poe of all people! But...doubts niggled at the back of my mind like maggots. What if Poe didn't want a baby? What if he left me? Just took off one night in his X-wing and never came back?
But as I looked back at Finn's questioning gaze, I knew my answer.
"Yes...yes, I am. I don't want to raise it alone but...if I have to, then I will. It's not the best timing, of course, but this is my baby. And a part of Poe...even if he doesn't want it,"
I had no idea the effect my words would have, spoken aloud in the otherwise quiet room. To my knowledge, the assault mission members wouldn't be returning for another couple of days. Who knew they would finish earlier than scheduled? Who knew Poe would choose that very moment to step into the kitchen after not finding me waiting in our apartment for him?
Yet as my eyes lifted to meet Finn's, they met Poe's instead and I sucked in a sharp breath at the thunderstruck expression plastered to his face. Taking one look at me and then Poe, Finn made an excuse to leave and practically raced out of the room. It was only me and my boyfriend then and finding myself unable to hold his gaze, I found an interesting stain on the table to look at.
His boots were loud in the silence as he made his way over to me before kneeling at my feet. Poe's hands were calloused but warm as he took mine in his own, squeezing gently to gain my attention. As my tear-filled eyes met his, the surprise remained but there was another emotion now: love. The enduring kind we had only found with each other.
And as he pressed a sweet kiss with his warm, soft lips to the back of my hand, I knew everything would be alright. I knew before the words even left his mouth.
"Why didn't you tell me I'm going to be a father?" his voice was soft and reassuring to my ears as I twined our fingers.
"I was scared you wouldn't want to be..." I admitted with a sniffle.
Standing up, he helped me up from the chair and gathered me to his chest. I couldn't help but to sigh. I always missed him when he left. I had been so lost in the panic I had let consume me about the changes that were coming, I hadn't stopped to think what it would mean to have him here with me again.
Poe left butterfly kisses in my hair that made me pull him closer, my fingers clinging to the loops of his flightsuit. His dark brown eyes were shimmering with unshed tears of his own when our gazes met.
"To your baby? Of course I want to be," he whispered, so close now that our noses touched and his ebony curls tickled my face, "No matter what's going on in this galaxy, nothing could ever change my mind about that."
