WITH ONE STEP AHEAD OF THE OTHER, you drag your heels and urged your body forward to the front of the school gates, where you and Hitoshi agreed to meet. Wearing a faint smile on your lips, swinging your hands a bit to the beat of your soles hitting the ground, you thought of the many plans you had made beforehand that you and Hitoshi could do while training.
Marathons, swimming, maybe even weight lighting? Heck, maybe you could even make time so both of you would get the chance to fight each other. Granted it wouldn't be that fair because Hitoshi doesn't have a quirk that helps in that aspect, but hey, that's going to be where you come to play to help him learn. Either way, you knew that you'd both have fun at the end of the day. A day could never go wrong with your best friend.
Like the distracted bitch you were, with your head so deep into your thoughts, you clumsily tripped on a stubborn pebble on the concrete, causing you to trip and ultimately fall flat onto your face. Admittedly a bit embarrassed, you groggily picked yourself up and patted yourself down, praying to the lords that nobody had seen the horrendous stunt you'd just pulled. As you glanced back up, your eyes widened seeing a huge mass of around thirty to forty people, crowding in front of the school gates.
Due to your curiosity, you shrugged before strolling towards the crowd to see what's causing the commotion. "Hitoshi wouldn't mind if I'm a little bit late, right?" you thought. "I'm only a few steps away from the gates anyways."
Hefting yourself up onto the tip of your toes, you pouted in annoyance as the countless number of shoulders and heads appeared, seemingly mocking the lack of height of yours. Taking a desperate little hop, your eyes widened at the sight of the familiar purple tuft of hair waving in the center of the huge mob of people. A gut-wrenching feeling began tumbling, eating away at your stomach, and your pulse began thrusting vigorously against your rib cage. "Holy shit, no way," you muttered.
Immediately, almost urgently, you elbowed a few people to your side in an attempt to push your way through to the front of the crowd, saying an apology every once in a while. Though still a bit confused, you kind of had an overall idea of what is to come.
Hitoshi had always been someone who gets easily picked on. His purple, gravity-defying hair is quite out of the ordinary, his personality makes it difficult for him to blend in and merge with the others, and his quirk gives others a false sense of insecurity due to typical stereotypes.
There have been so many instances where students came up to you and asked you why and how you were able to be so close to "someone like him", as they would put it. It always angered and upset you when people say that, and every time you try to explain, they would reply with the same thing over and over again like a broken record--
"He's obviously going to be a villain, I mean, come on, his quirk literally screams 'I'm a villain.'."
"He might just be using you as a shield, what if he secretly hates you?"
"How can you be so confident that he wouldn't be a villain, maybe he's just acting right now."
"I think you should stay away from him, he might be plotting something."
"He's just using you."
And here's where your argument comes in. How can someone who watches twenty or even more cat videos in one day be plotting about anything, but getting more cats every time he passes a pet shop? Since when were you determined as a villain simply because of a quirk you were born with? Knowing Hitoshi on a personal level for three years had made your opinions set straight.
I mean yeah, if you were to hear this without having to have known him for that long, you might've listened and gone along with the rumors like everyone else had, but its that amount of time that allowed you to understand not to judge people by their cover.
Hitoshi is an incredibly humble, honest, and genuine person. Everything from his softness of those beautiful violet eyes, to his soothing, deep almost rough voice, completely contradicts what they said. He's super-mindful over his words, he rarely speaks without carefully filtering through them. He's also super hardworking, and dare you say, probably more hardworking than you are. The only thing concerning about him that you could think of is his lack of trust and over obsession over cats.
Just as you stepped into view, you were just able to witness two unfamiliar classmates push the sleep-deprived boy into the ground. With a deep grunt, his pale face was smashed into the ground and pulled back up with a tug of his floofy locks. Your heart ached immensely, seeing Hitoshi wince and grunt with pain.
You knew there were people bullying him, but you never knew it would get down so bad. You had seen the faint footprint imprinted behind his back earlier that day, but you desperately denied that anyone in this school would go as far as to physically hurt him.
"Wouldn't they know not to bully a friend of a high-status student?" you wondered. "Are the people here that stupid? Or are they just asking for punishment."
Frozen, you stood shocked as one of the boys leaned down to stare at Hitoshi's face. "Hah, who do you think you are, villain." he spat. "Sticking close to a hero's daughter, you think that would get you away huh?"
Hitoshi clicked his tongue in response and calmly glared back at the classmate. The boy loosened his hold on Hitoshi's hair, which lead him to fall back onto the ground with a solid thud. Just as Hitoshi was about to hold himself back up, the boy stopped him by proceeding to stomp onto Hitoshi's hand. Hitoshi clenched his teeth tight, a few tears began pooling under his tired eyes though he desperately tried to hold them in.
"Look at you now," the boy mocked. "Without her, you're nothing. Defenseless, weak, what a nuisance."
Your eyes narrowed in utter disgust and you clicked your tongue in annoyance. "This boy is really asking for it." you thought, watching your friend curl his dirtied hands, grasping and curling into a firm fist.
You thought it was about time for you to step in and teach the boy a little lesson, however, just as you were moving your body towards the scene, Hitoshi's opened his mouth to speak.
"And look at you, always boasting about being a hero..." he started. "Would a hero really be bullying their classmate?"
