Walking out from your crowded classroom, you step out into the hallway, clicking your leather shoes down towards your next class. Carefully carrying the stack of textbooks in your arms, you peeked out from behind the obstacle to try and get a sense of direction of where you're going.
A lot of things has been going on lately, it's now your third year of junior high, and you're getting more and more anxious about your capabilities. Truth be told, nothing much has changed about your skills. You could control your powers more and grow more variations of plants, but thats about it. The exam is coming up sooner than you expected, but from the call last night, your mother doesn't seem to have any expectations set for you either.
"As long as I think you can get recommended, you will." She paused, shifting her phone on her shoulders. " Trying to get in the school through the exam is comparing yourself to a bunch of thugs. They are rejects, and they can't be compared to an elite like you. Worst case scenario is getting beaten by another average school student, we can't risk that."
"But wouldn't it be more meaningful if I get in through hard work?" you asked.
"Getting in by recommendation is kind of like cheating the system, I don't want someone to think I got in because of you." you boldly added.
This is an important moment for you, as much as you know your mother knows more about you, you kind of want to set up your own morals. You want to prove yourself that you belong there, in U.A, because of your hard work and not just because you're related to someone that's already set in the career.
All the other students would be competing against each other just to get a spot in U.A, a prestigious school that guarantees the students to a spot as one of the top heroes in Japan. Your mother got in there through the entrance exam too, so she should have an idea where you're going at.
"Y/N, listen to me." she sighed. "Your quirk... to be blunt it's not that special."
ouch.
"Growing plants from your touch is probably one of the most basic, if not most unreliable quirk. It would've been better if you could grow them without the touch, but we can't do anything about that. Don't be selfish Y/N, this isn't all just about you—"
"But it is!" you argued. "You always, and I mean always connect everything I do back to you. Nobody actually cares, they don't always see me as a representation of you. I'm my own person."
"Shut up." your mother spat. "Shut the fuck up and listen to me. You don't even make any sense, do you hear me? Say something legit and understandable, something that holds more logic before speaking, you twat."
"How dare you speak to me out like that. Not everything is about your feelings? If you're going to go on about how you're your own person, save it because that shit is bullshit. I'm your mother Y/N, I birthed you from my womb. You're here because I'm here and decided to keep you for 9 months inside of me." her voice cracked.
"If you don't want to listen, just know. You at the very least owe me this. The fact that I even have to explain this to you hurts me. What the fuck did I do wrong while raising you?" she sniffled. "How could you even speak up to someone who has been giving you the money and place to stay in this world?"
Tears began welling up under your eyes, and honestly, you don't even know why. You haven't even noticed that you've been crying until a few drops splat on your math homework that you've been doing that previous night.
"I—I'm sorry." you croaked. "I didn't.. I didn't meant to come out that way, I—"
"Whatever," she sighed. "Guess that's what puberty does, mood swings."
You didn't answer.
"Anyways, I have some stuff to work on now. I'll be coming back a week before the exam, don't disappoint me."
"...all right." you weakly answered.
"Do your best, don't try your best. Anyways, I gotta go."

As you doze off from thinking back to the call, one of the books almost slip off from your grasp. You did one of those wibbly wobbly dances, attempting to balance the book back on the stack. However, despite your efforts, the book fell from the pile and dropped onto the floor.
'Stupid fucking books just won't stay in their place!' you thought.
Grunting, you scanned the hallway to see if someone would kindly offer to help out and place the book back into your pile. A purple tuft caught your eye almost immediately, and being the lazy bitch you are, instead of placing the book down to pick up the book, you called the boy over.
"Hitoshi!"
He peered over his shoulder and glanced towards your direction, after realizing it was you who called, he fully turned around and began his walk towards you. "What's up?" he asked after stopping a bit in-front of you, raising his eyebrows.
"Can you help me pick up that book? I dropped it and I can't reach it."
Sending out puppy dog eyes, you looked at Hitoshi, urging him to help you. Of course, he could never get away with anything with that look of yours, and therefore sighed before bending down to pick up the book. As he straightened his back, you couldn't help but spot a faint footprint imprinted behind his back.
Already anticipating that he'd drop the book back, you stretched out your arms out towards him a bit. However, instead of putting the book back into the pile, he took half of the stack and walked off. Confused, you tilted your head and called back to him. "Hitoshi? I need those books."
He halted a bit ahead of you, before sighing and tilting his head towards the end of the hallway. "You have history next, right? I'll carry these to the classroom for you."
"Thank you!" you beamed, hurrying a bit to stroll beside him.
"Hey, by the way, did you get into a fight?" you asked, albeit it be a bit hesitantly. "If it's personal just tell me, but if you ever need me to, I can kick their ass! Nobody will mess with my best friend."
"It's nothing much really." He sighed. "Just a bunch of delusional idiots." he murmered.
"Ah... I see."
You both stayed quiet throughout the whole walk to the classroom. While he trotted boringly beside you, you had been having a mental argument with yourself over whether or not you should ask but, you decided to take the leap of faith.
As you both got to the classroom and dropped off the book, you cleared your throat and tapped him on his shoulder. "Hey, Hitoshi?" you asked timidly. "What high school are going to be going for?"
You swung your hands behind your back and awkwardly fidget with your skirt, scooting your feet into an awkward shuffle. "It's our last year of junior high, if we were to be going to different schools, I want to make sure we at least hang out over the summer..."
As you trailed off, Hitoshi glanced down at your cute figure. A hint of blush blossomed on his face, but he kept quiet and placed a hand behind his neck. "I'm going to U.A."
As soon as you heard the word 'U.A' your whole demeanor turned a 180. Your eyes began to twinkle and a huge smile creeped up on your face. Excitedly, you began rolling your heels on the floor and lifting your fists up and down.
"OH MY GOD REALLY?!" you exclaimed. "ME TOO!?"
"And here I thought I would have to lose a best friend again and be alone again. We could still do our sleepovers and hangouts and movie nights and pool parties and omg I can still play with your poofy, fluffy silky, hair!?"
Sweatdropping at your rambles, he patted your head in an attempt to quiet you down. "Y/N... hush down a bit, people are watching—"
"AhH WE SHOULD TOTALLY TRAIN TOGETHER!?" you suggested, rather loudly may I add.
"We can start tomorrow if you want! Or even today!? How do you think about that, huh?" You urged, practically smushing your face into his.
He sighed. "Sure... how about tomorrow? I still have to tell my parents about it."
"Okay! Perfectly fine!"
DinG.
"Holy fuck, I gotta go." he cursed. "I'll see you outside of the gates. Same spot."
"Mkay! Bye!" you waved, he smiled back and speed-walked out of the classroom to his next class.
As he walked, he thought back to the interaction you both shared just a few seconds ago in the classroom. How you were so nervous to ask the simple question before beaming after hearing that he too, was going to the same hero school.
"She's going to U.A too, huh?" he smirked.
"Sweet."
