He's trying to stay okay. He's trying because he's your best friend.

Asta used to be your favorite boy.

Asta used to make your day.

He's the one you used to think as you lie awake.

But not anymore. It's now all Yuno. Yuno replaced him on your heart but no, not as a best friend. Someone greater than that. Ever since you met Yuno on one accident wherein he got to save you from a villain, you two became close and eventually, the both of you fell for each other.

But you and Asta knew each other first. You, being a senior in the Black Bulls squad, were assigned to stay on Asta's side as he learned everything about being a Magic Knight and you two grew very close too, but you only see him as a little brother. No more, no less. But that's not the case for Asta. He likes, no, he loves you so much. Unfortunately, you're too oblivious to feel it.

After all, you promised to be on your best friend's side forever and support him in his dream.

"Earth to Asta please?"

You snapped your fingers in front of his face before he blinked twice, scratching the back of his head. He smiled sheepishly but deep down, he's nervous.

Today, you're going to visit the Capital to see your boyfriend yet Asta insisted to come with you. After all, he's Yuno's childhood friend and rival too.

"I-I'm sorry, Y/N-chan! I'm so hungry I spaced out."

"Oh? Don't worry! When we see Yuno, let's have a break at the cafeteria, okay?"

His heartache as you mentioned Yuno's name. "Sure."

You chirped happily, talking about different tales. Asta missed the moments like this. Being alone with you, spending time with you. He's trying his best to be okay, to put up a smile when you're looking at him. He should've stayed at the hideout. Right now, it's just a matter of seconds before he'll cry his lungs out.

He's hurting.

But looking at you, you're very happy. When you're with Yuno, you're smiling very genuinely. At least, you're okay. That's fine with him. You might not smile that much when you end up with him, that's what he thinks. He made up his mind, if you're happy, then he's happy too. It doesn't matter if he's hurting, as long as you're okay, he'll be okay too.

"Asta, are you feeling sick? You've been staring at your food for minutes already."

"I'm fine, Yuno," He forced a chuckle.

You tapped his shoulder before giving a genuine smile. You need to check upon him. You need to because you're his best friend, right?

"You sure? You can tell me if something's bothering you."

As if there's a switch inside him, he suddenly became energetic and full of life.

"Don't worry, Y/N-chan! I will be fine, promise!"

Seeing his enthusiasm, you chose to believe him. You cleared the atmosphere as you and Asta threw jokes at each other and then eventually pull pranks on Yuno which he didn't buy though, leaving everyone happy.

At least, for now. Asta's so sure he'll cry later. When he's alone. When you're not looking anymore.

Because he knew his position. He knew his role. Even though he still wants to be your favorite boy, he still wants to be the one that makes your day, he can't wait to be your number one and he'll always stay your biggest fan.

He's your best friend. Best friend.
