Not much to say here, to be honest...

I just gotta warn that you can expect a lot of updates this month. I'm telling AT LEAST three, as opposed to my previous "an update each month" schedule thanks to me procrastinating a lot. Simple reasoning is that I got myself the month off of work and am now just training and staying at home, so I can, by all means, write 9 chapters the entire month, seeing as how I can drop a chapter every two days and whatnot.

Considering that a Violet Evergarden episode has about 25 minutes of length, if I write 10 minutes a day, five minutes in the morning, and five in the night, then 15 more minutes in the following day, I can drop 9 chapters this month, or 3 chapters a week if I give myself a rest on Sundays. Not 12 since I can't write for a week, seeing as how me and my girlfriend will be out together, and I won't be writing for said week.

Regardless, hope you enjoy this chapter!

Y/N hummed at the warmth.

It was something he was used to, even back then when he COULD feel the warmth of the blood running down on his fingers previous to them becoming what they are. His emotionless face remained as usual, glaring down at the open body that laid in front of him, calmly running his fingers along its ribcage, down the middle, past each rib, as he took a closer look at their structure, calmly noting all of it in his small notepad.

He noted everything there was to note, just as he was instructed. The man's gender, his apparent age, and the cause of death, which couldn't be more obvious thanks to the wound in his head that became much larger in his nape. Calmly taking the time to glance at everything he could, Y/N would add more to the sketch of a human body that he had made in his notepad, calmly drawing veins all over the figure's body.

He would soon glance forward, noting the girl approaching him with the saw in her hand, and putting it aside. Calmly tapping her hands together, she would glance at Y/N and, as neither soldiers wore their uniforms, the girl instead wore her white apron, and her equally-colored gloves. She'd raise an eyebrow at seeing Y/N noting down everything he could, including, in extreme detail, the temperature of his inner body.

Chiara: ["... What are you doing?"]

Y/N: ["You told me to note everything I could, so I did"]

Y/N extended his notepad to the girl, who would gently take it with a confused expression. Flipping through it, her eyes slowly widened more and more after they had narrowed for it. There, she saw the notes of, quite literally, everything. From the man's temperature, his skin shape, a perfect drawing recreation of various human bodies, noting where there were veins, bones and their shapes, and all nerves.

It went as far as Y/N slowly coming to a conclusion of many things with a "learning" method. Disproving why certain things happened until he reached a conclusion based on his previous findings. The girl flipped through the entire thing until she reached its end, where there was a large text of the man's date and hour of death, purely based on how much blood he lost, as well as on the temperature of the outside and inside.

Chiara: ["You noted... ALL of this?"]

Y/N: ["Yes"]

Chiara: ["Ok wow, that's pretty impressive, I'm not gonna lie... But I did note one thing"] Chiara said, turning the notepad to Y/N, and gently tapping the middle of his drawing '["This is not where the lungs are located, they are a bit to the side, here, take a look"]

She instructed the boy to glance down, which he did as commanded. Reaching forward, Chiara would take her saw, and make quick work of the man's rib cage, removing most of it with all but one single slide on each rib. Calmly removing the main body of the bones, she'd point towards the lungs of the man, humming as she noted their color, which prompted her to take a closer look at it, and nod her head.

Chiara: ["Smoker. Possibly been doing it ever since he was a child"]

Y/N: ["How come you reach such a conclusion on looks alone?"]

Chiara: ["Well, one of the many toxins in a cigarette is called "sticky tar". After years of smoking, it builds up inside the lungs and causes them to become black in color"] The girl gently tapped the man's lungs with her fingers, which caused them to almost break down at her touch ["Light" smokers, per-se, take about one year to develop diseases, and this guy? Oh boy, this guy's lungs are darker than a Black Templar's armor"]

Y/N: ["I see. So smoking in excess causes your lungs to deteriorate"] Y/N would nod, gently noting it all down as Chiara spoke ["As such, inhaling the smoke of the cigarette, even if not directly smoking it, may also cause such diseases"]

Chiara: ["... You didn't get my joke?"]

Y/N: ["I did. It simply wasn't comical"]

Chiara brought her hand to where her heart was located and clutched it while also gripping the metal table in which the man laid dead. Y/N would remain unbothered, noting down everything he could, even ripping off the page of his previous drawing before drawing a new one, which closely-resembled the exact figure, but with the lungs on the correct place, as well as much more details than his previous drawing.

All thanks to him having a clearer access to the man's organs on the inside, which Y/N used to copy into his drawing. He even drew the blackened lungs, noting the date in which his autopsy and study alongside Chiara was performed. Designating this man as "The Lung" so that he wouldn't lose himself in the many other bodies that he knew he would study, Y/N would turn up to face Chiara who had recovered herself.

Chiara: ["Other signs indicating of his smoking habits is this"] She said, tapping a bald spot on the man's head ["His hair looks is quite evident, I must say"]

Y/N: ["How come something that attack the lungs also cause hair loss?"]

Chiara: ["Simply put, a little thing called "Vasoconstriction", the narrowing, constriction, of blood vessels by small muscles in their walls"] Chiara calmly explained, grasping the man's head and turning to the side as Y/N noted down while she was speaking ["When blood vessels constrict, blood flow is slowed or blocked. It comes by forming DNA adducts, free radical damage to hair follicle, by enhancing senescence and hormonal effects"]

Y/N: ["Is there anything that cigarettes DON'T affect?"]

Chiara: ["Very little things. Smoking, especially long term, will fuck you up real bad, just take this guy for example"] Chiara shrugged, which prompted Y/N to hum while he would go back to noting things in his notepad ["Smokers are also, on average, skinnier than nonsmokers. Nicotine suppresses appetite"]

Y/N: ["I once met a smoker while traveling here. He seemed like the complete opposite of what you described. Dare I say, he looked as tall as a Primarch"] Y/N would note, gently taking a few more notes before he closely inspected the man's lungs, as well as his weight, before going back to writing ["He seemed as physically-capable as one as well, his calves were the size of my head, if not larger than that"]

Chiara: ["Sounds like a true monster, quite ferocious, like a lion"]

Y/N: ["To me he seemed more... Like a saint"]

Chiara: ["A... Saint's Lion?"]

Y/N: ["That sounds stupid"]

Chiara: ["Regardless, what does this thing indicate to you?"]

Y/N glanced down where Chiara was pointing, which went from noting the man's wrinkled, dull, and gray, traveling up to his eyes which were darkened with clear signs of a lack of sleep. She soon traveled to the man's liver, which looked disgusted. Bloated, and losing most of its red color, taking a green tone that Y/N had observed in other bodies, by either studying, or removing said livers. Long story, don't ask.

Then, when her finger gently came into contact with it, Y/N also noted the stomach, which seemed to have been punctured by something. An Ulcer, that much he knew quite well, but now how it was linked to Chiara's question. But most of all was the man's body, which, save for a few areas, took a color of yellow, the same with the area in the man's eyes that should have been white, but instead, were in this yellow tone.

Y/N: ["I fail to see any connection"]

Chiara: ["These are all problems related to long-term drinking, save for his lack of sleep"] Chiara would turn to face the man's eyes once again, as Y/N got ready to write ["He was a soldier, that much we know... So, after his initial retirement that, pop quiz, came from what?"]

Y/N: ["The leg injury which you explained to me first"] Y/N spoke, glancing up towards Chiara who nodded ["So that means he was put back in deployment?"]

Chiara: ["Even if he was in no condition, correctly. However, his first time around war left him with severe mental scars, PTSD, if you will"] The girl continued to explain, which prompted the man to nod along while scribbling down the girl's words ["It led him to drinking and smoking, which explains the symptoms that we found"]

Y/N: ["And such PTSD also caused the lack of sleep, evident by the darkened area around his eyes"] Y/N hummed, nodding his head as he gently wrote it all down in a fast manner ["So, in other words, this man began smoking at a young age, was drafted to war..."] Y/N began to write as he spoke along, clearly noting the man's story ["When he came back, he lacked sleep thanks to his PTSD, and began drinking because of it"] Y/N nodded along, soon stopping to write, and turning to face Chiara once again ["And then he went back into war, where I shot him, and here we are?"]

Chiara: ["Precisely! That's it, you're learning quite fast, aren't ya?"] Chiara smirked, nodding her head with a proud look, gently ruffling Y/N's hair ["That's a good boy right there, eh? Should we continue with the autopsy?"]

Y/N: ["I am still not sure if said autopsy is legal"]

Chiara: ["To be fair, when has the Empire ever cared about morality?"] Chiara shrugged with an uncaring expression clear on her face ["We kinda just... Take things, do we not?"]

Y/N: ["We are not Blood Ravens"]

The quiet was usual for them.

Not like they spoke too much to begin with, but with one another, as opposed to what some would expect of people who were so close, they remained quiet. The girl, sitting in a spot that the taller man had offered her, would lay her head against the side of his waist, keeping both of her eyes closed. In the meantime, the boy remained with both arms crossed on top of the zipline cart's sides, glancing over the horizon.

Seeing the sun rise right behind them both for the past couple of minutes, he remained unmoving, quiet, and unbothered by the looks that he had received thanks to his horrendous appearance. Something that he was more than used to, but something that he was also used to ignoring and not paying attention to, let alone when it came down to random people such as the ones that stood all around him.

The bright light of the sun which washed away the anger brought memories of Y/N standing still, down and beneath the warm and soothing hair, with the droplets falling gently down on the terrain. Washing away the sorrow and all the stains of time. All of that he remembered, but there was no memory, and he knew that he was only dry inside. There, slowly, in the mud and sinking deeper into a peaceful life.

And it came like a flood of pain.

It poured down on him, and it didn't let up until the end was here. It came through the darkest day, in his final hours, and it never rested until the clouds were clear. It never rested, not for a single moment, until it found that his dreams had disappeared, letting the mercury rise on up until it boiled in his blood. He swore he'd tear all the seams until it became undone. He takes it all, in and out, saving it all for that fight.

The vast amount of nothingness to both sides, front, and back, left him thinking, wondering, all while he remained not speaking. With the time that seemed to go in a flash thanks to the boy lost in his own thoughts, he felt the cart shaking a bit, which prompted him to note how they had now arrived at the concrete station, with the zipline coming to an end, which prompted Violet to quickly stand up from her seat.

Y/N opened the small door for her, allowing Violet to go through first. Calmly following the girl, who wore a dark-blue vest covering most of her body and face thanks to the cold of the top mountains. Y/N himself didn't mind the cold, not like he could feel it for the most part anyways, and even if he could, Krieg had made sure that, come hell or the ice age itself, any of their soldiers would be unbothered by their surroundings.

Violet was the one by his side, though Y/N's mere appearance wasn't enough to show how he didn't fit, his various medals that he wore made it all even more obvious, let alone the one of Krieg that spoke for itself. He seemed as out of place as usual, especially since most people around him were women, from all sorts of looks and different countries in the world, with their respective attires showing that much.

The men were few and far-in-between.

Boy: ["Hey, Leon! Look!"]

As the sun rose through the distant mountains, peeking over them with its massive rays of light appearing all around the place, it reflected the light off of a young boy's spyglass. He looked through the various women with an excited face, peeking through one of the windows in a gigantic building that was towering over in the distance, and said boy was clearly unconcerned for his own safety or being discreet.

Boy: ["Women from all across the continent are headed our way!"]

Leon: ["They are just ghostwriters"]

The man behind him spoke, turning around to show himself to be a young man who is short compared to his co-workers. He wears thin-framed glasses that he has over his fussy-looking almond eyes. His long hair is a rare sea-green color. He spoke with an unbothered tone, clearly not showing any sort of interest. He, alongside the other man, spoke from a darkened room that had barely any light save for the sun.

Boy: ["I think you mean Auto Memoir Dolls, am I right?"] He turned around with a smug look present in his face ["Beautiful women who write beautiful prose for their clients alone!"]

Leon: ["Hmph. They're dolled up for one reason: It's a profession full of women who hope to one day marry into money"] The dark-haired man spoke without any clear interest on his voice, walking out of the room ["If called upon, these women will really go anywhere in the world ot hawk their so-called ghostwriting skills... I can't believe how much I despised this profession"] He thought with himself, walking away with his head held high, but with a pensive face ["I was even taken back by it, dare I say"]

Leon thought while glancing out into the distance. There, high in the mountains in that place he was so familiar with, many other places connected with various bridges and paths, which two other figures found themselves walking around. Y/N glanced around the place for a moment as Violet checked the instructions and address she was given. It was a new place, so it's quite clear they were a bit puzzled still.

Let alone the fact that it was so high in the mountains, connecting various other places with bridges carved into stone, and other many paths. Y/N would hum as he and Leon glanced at one another, Y/N far in the distance, looking up at the man with long hair that could barely see the discernable figure of the two. Without any words or actions, the latter walked away, leaving Y/N to comment out loud for him and Violet.

Y/N: ["Seems like we're in for quite the work today, Ms. Violet"]

It was familiar, and strange at the same time.

Y/N was used to places like this. Huge buildings filled with people, the difference is that, regardless of gender, they'd be wearing their uniforms, and covering their faces with the gas masks that Krieg was so famous for. Y/N would, for the most part, be the one in the front, giving them the briefing of whatever target they should throw themselves at in the battle of attrition that Krieg was also notorious for using.

Sure, the buildings were usually barracks under a sky that was darkened by the endless smoke of thousands of factories building their weapons, and the chattering would be covered by the sound of the machines outside, as opposed to this luxurious building of white marble that covered what would be an entire block in a normal city. Let alone with its five different floors and hundreds of various different books.

And yeah, the men would be paying attention to his instructions as opposed to eyeing the women, otherwise Y/N would have gouged their eyes out as he did a few times. Hell, even when he was in the sitting crowd, alongside his group of grenadiers, he would be listening closely and not drooling over women like the others in this place were. Y/N wondered a simple, reasonable question: "The fuck is wrong with them?"

Girl: ["Violet! Y/N!"]

The familiar voice called out for them both, which prompted them to turn around and face the two girls that had approached them. Back from the school, Bluebell, the girl with short, light-brown hair, and Iberis, the girl who's shoulder-length black hair was tied into two buns while a few fringes fell over her face and by the side of their head. Y/N would turn around, calmly nodding his head towards them both with a calm hum.

Y/N: ["Ms. Bluebell, Ms. Iberis..."]

Violet: ["Luculia..."]

Luculia: ["The letters that you ghostwrote for the Princess of Drossel were simply phenomenal, Violet"] The girl spoke with a wide smile and a happy expression present on her face ["From what I heard, Y/N even helped to coerce the prince into writing his letters himself, too!"]

Iberis: ["They really were! I read them all over the news articles!"} Iberis spoke with a wide smile showing on her face ["I'm proud to count you among my acquaintances"]

Bluebell: ["... Hey, what's wrong?"]

The girl asked, noting how Violet's eyes slowly dropped, as Y/N turned to face the blonde-haired girl at his side. Luculia and Iberis also noted how Violet seemed to be rather saddened by their words, which caught them off-guard. Did they say something wrong? They did say something that they weren't supposed to? It wasn't clear, so, of course, they decided to ask, which prompted Luculia to chirp up about the problem.

Luculia: ["You seem rather... Down"]

Luculia: ["Pfft... Violet.."]

Luculia let out a small smile, taken back, but happy about seeing her friend like that. She understood what the girl was trying to do, and she was quite glad to see such a thing. However, their moment of sweet reunion was short-lived thanks to a man speaking up from above, prompting every single man and woman in the place to turn and face him. Y/N took a small second to note the man's strange appearance.

He was a short, round man who was clearly over the common weight. With short, light-blonde hair cut in a bowl cut, with two fringes on each side of his head, the man also sported a thick mustache, wearing a dark-green robe with an equally-colored hat on the top of his head. Calmly turning around to face him, Y/N would look up at the man, remaining with his usual pose of keeping both hands inside his pockets at all times. He remained as such, hearing as the man introduced himself and spoke up.

Le Verrier: ["I'm Le Verrier, chief of the Shaher Astronomy HQ here in Justitia Observatory"]

With the man's introduction out of the way, every single person, save for Y/N, took action. Though they were all similar aside from, again, the young Kriegsman and someone else, they were all done in perfect unison. All girls grasping the sides of their dresses and bowing down, with Y/N and the other figure by his side crossing an arm over their chest, and bowing their chests forward, and then their heads down.

Dolls: ["it's a pleasure to meet you, sir"]

Aside from a short, spiky brown hair, there wasn't much that Y/N could catch of the other man's appearance, but something stood out to him, something about his pose, and movements. With all of them doing that at once, all men, save for Lion, seemed quite surprised and embarrassed, a blush spreading across their faces, as La Verrier himself also seemed quite taken back by it, coughing and clearing his throat after.

Le Vierre: ["Our Shaher Astronomy HQ, as you can see, also has a library housing astronomy literature from all eras and places"] Spreading his arms open, the man spoke with pride thanks to the gigantic library that covered all floors ["Our Manuscript Department spends each day keeping every book in tip-top shape, and if any get worn out, they make a fresh copy for preservation"] Smirking with an excited expression, the older gentleman grasped his fists together ["It is a highly important task. Now, if that were the only work we faced, they could handle it all themselves. However!"] His serious expression making its way back into the man's face features, he narrowed his eyes ["Last mont we received a great number of extremely-rare, but poorly-maintained books"] Every single Doll watched with close eyes, as would Y/N, were it not for him turning to face the other man ["Some of them threatened to crumble into dust if you so much turned a single page. We have over 160 people here in total today! Eighty of you Auto Memoir Dolls"] La Verrier extended his left arm to the side where the Dolls were, all of them paying close attention to his words ["And eighty men from the Manuscript Department. You will form pairs with one member of each side, dictate the contents of the books, and write new copies"] His eyes narrowed into a serious expression yet once more, prompting him to glare towards every single person in the room ["These books are irreplaceable and are of great worth to us and many generations to come, so your assistance is greatly appreciated!"]

The man's words were done, Y/N and the other man faced themselves. They both seemed quite interested in one another. The man's large structure, and well-built body, accompanied by many scars around his arms, and even a couple of them on his face, only made him more intimidating. That, alongside the glare that his cold, golden-colored eyes let out, only made him more interesting to Y/N.

Equally, the man also found Y/N to be quite unique, why shouldn't, or wouldn't, he, after all? Just a mere glance at Y/N would tell everything there is. The various badges around his chest, and his many scars were obvious what he was, or what happened. And as La Verrier called for the name to make pairs, Y/N and the man remained sharing glances. In a way, that man kinda reminded Y/N of that massive man he met.

And, as time flew by, and their glares remained the same, cold, and emotionless, the other man would turn around to Bluebell gently hugging his arm, and glancing up at him. He'd plant a gentle kiss on the top of her head, instantly letting Y/N know that they were close, if not dating. However, that was all shut-down when he noticed a glow that gently sparkled his eyes, the reflection of light being unbothered to him.

Even if, again and again, went over both of his eyes, all of it coming from the gem. The white-clear diamond in the rings that stood on both Bluebell's and the mysterious man's fingers, meaning that they were beyond dating, and they seemed extremely happy too, even if the man's face remained unmoving. Y/N looked at him, up and down, and even at his dog tags, confirming his suspicion that this man was a soldier.

Le Vierre: ["Next, Leon Stephanotis, and Ms. Violet Evergarden from C.H. Postal"]

The boy, glancing up at the ceiling, clearly displeased, would turn his eyes away from the girl that walked up alongside the Kriegsman. Stopping in front of the boy, he remained with both eyes away from her, glancing all over the place save for Violet or Y/N. With their rhythmic steps echoing through the place thanks to their respective boots, the two of them soon approached Leon, who's eyes slowly darted to them.

Violet: ["It is a pleasure to meet you. If a client requests it, we shall go anywhere"] Violet introduced herself with her common greeting, gently grasping the sides of her dress and bowing down ["Representing C.H. Postal's Auto Memoir Doll's Service..."]

Violet: ["I am Violet Evergarden"]

Leon's eyes widened and he gasped in shock upon noticing the two figures in front of him. Starstruck by the doll-like girl in front of him, and the demonic-like man that stood by her side, towering both over the girl, and Leon himself. His emotionless glare that many would confuse with anger and hatred focusing completely on Leon, who's eyes trembled in surprise of what he was witnessing right in front of him.

Noticing the way that he was looking at Violet, Y/N's eyes narrowed slightly. And as the blonde-haired girl crouched down, picking up her coat and her briefcase, Y/N's eyes seemed to only intensify their glare. By the side, Bluebell glanced up at her husband who let out a small chuckle, much to her evident shock thanks to her eyes going wide and a loud gasp escaping from her mouth, and the man smirking.

All the while, he watched. Leon, glancing up at Y/N quickly, would note the fierce glow in his blue-colored eyes that seemed to send shivers down his spine. In his irises he saw the countless years of various that Y/N was fighting, and the countless Kingdoms that he had helped reduce to dust. For a moment he froze, being snapped out of his shock once Violet had turned towards Y/N, and her voice would echo in his ears.

Violet: ["... Doctor?"]

Y/N: ["...! Yes, Ms. Violet? Is there something I may help with?"] The man asked, keeping both hands in his pockets, as usual ["I believe that it is best if we keep on moving, am I right?"]

Le Vierre: ["Excuse me, sir. But I fear that I have only heard of Ms. Evergarden"] The old gentleman spoke, glancing up at the towering Kriegsman ["May I enquire as to what is your purpose here?"]

Y/N: ["... I'm Dr. Y/N L/N. I oversee Violet's condition and her post-war injuries"] At the mention of the girl, some whispers appeared throughout the crowd ["I am also an employee of C.H. Postal, and am a Doll myself, and I oversee Ms. Violet's job... But"] Y/N reached for his coat, gently pulling it to the side for a moment ["You will address me as Y/N L/N, Commissar of of the 993rd Death Korps Infantry Regiment"]

Dropping his coat, Y/N walked away without another word, prompting Violet to follow him, uncaring for the various whispers that had come throughout the room as he walked away without a care in the world. Quickly, Leon followed behind them both after being stunned. Bluebell instantly glanced up to her husband who hummed, narrowing his eyes and crossing his arms, nodding as he glanced down at the girl.

Man: ["... Bingo"]

He guided them both through the claustrophobic grey-colored corridors that reminded Y/N of the dead, boring colors he was used to seeing back home. Not helped by the fact that his glass mask was kept on 100% of the time, and the glasses on the eyes that were tinted would make even live colors seem dull and lackluster. A sight that was, to him, not welcome not one bit, even if he held no grudges at Krieg.

Being instructed to wait, Y/N gently took Violet's briefcase that she passed to him as Leon left the room. Setting it on the table of the equally-claustrophobic room, the boy took Violet's typewriter out of it, and gently put it on the table, closing her briefcase, and putting it aside, with her dark-blue coat on top of it. Calmly pulling a chair for Violet, who sat down with a nod to show her thanks towards her companion.

It didn't take long for the silence to reign over the room, though it also didn't take as long for Leon to push the door open with his shoulders. Though Y/N stepped forward to help, alongside Violet standing up to also aid the young boy, he quickly shut them down, telling them both to remain sitting. Putting aside their apologies, he sat one of the books on the table, and with extreme care, slowly took the cover and opened it.

Leon: ["We'll go with this book, written in a common classical language"] The boy with long hair spoke, glancing down at the first page ["It begins with records of a sighting of Alley's Comet 400 years ago"]

Y/N: ["The periodic event every 200 years?"]

Leeon: ["Correct. We estimate that it'll be visible from this observatory soon"] Leon slowly turned to glare over Violet, which did evoke Y/N's fingers gripping his own biceps even tighter as his arms remained crossed ["Just so you know, I dictate very quickly. If you cannot keep up, then you'll be of-"] He shut his mouth instantly once Violet removed her gloves, gently waving her fingers around, with Y/N gently inspecting them ["No... Use... ?"]

Violet: ["I am perfectly aware"]

Y/N: ["Do keep in mind that her top speed was over 200 characters per minute when she began her training"] Y/N spoke, pulling up a chair for himself so he sat down next to Violet, crossing his arms again ["Do not underestimate the teachings of Kriegsman, or the Dolls of C.H. Postal"]

Leon slowly glanced up with some sweat running down his face, and could anyone blame him? He was staring at the prettiest girl he ever laid his eyes on, and, at her side, was a man of Krieg, and if that wasn't enough, he looked ready to absolutely decimate anyone that he would even set his eyes on. The flaming rage that burned in his irises thanks to the years of war that he had been put through so many times.

Leon: ["A - Alright then! Let us see what you've got..."] Leon glanced down at the page, still feeling Y/N burn a hole through his skull with that glare ["An arrow of light in the great dark sky, its long tail slicing Barbarossa's neck in two. According to Ariadna, an astrologist, the arrow of light is an ill omen"] He read the book out loud as Violet continued to write, and Y/N's eyes slowly dulled themselves in thought ["Once its shining light passes, disease will abound, and the king's demise will rock the country"] He thought about that man, and why he seemed so equal to him. His posture, his glare, the fact that his eyes were always scanning all around, and he never seemed at ease ["Likewise, the arrow of light also pierce through Barbarossa, and it was almost like his body and soul were ripped apart..."]

Leon slowly glanced up towards Violet, who stopped writing the exact moment that he had stopped talking, showing how focused she was, as opposed to Y/N, who remained glancing at the ceiling. The girl would gently look forward towards Leon who found himself once again lost in admiration to her. However, he quickly snapped back to reality, and, forcing a confident and angry expression, began to talk again.

Leon: ["If Ariadna is to be believed, the arrow of light has appeared before. And it signifies The Fairy King, Reinhard, taking a wife of those fortunate enough to die beneath its light"] It was like if someone who was SLIGHTLY dangerous even so much breathed near him, that man would be ready to kill them on the spot... Why? ["The women become Reinhard's consorts, and the men become offerings for the celebration banquet"]

Again, Leon stopped talking, which prompted Violet to stop typing. Glancing up at her, he would quickly look down once again, which prompted his eyes to widen, but not in surprise, but rather, sadness. There, she saw the figure of a taller, more mature woman grasping a young child around her arms as the kid gently tugged her hair. His expression dropped from surprise to blank, as did his previously-serious voice.

Leon: ["As such, that parting is not a tragedy. In the fairy kingdom, a land of eternity, they will be bestowed new vessels, in which their soul will live on for all of time"] Y/N's breathing became a bit quicker as he struggled to find the answer. Why were they so similar to one another? He asked himself, again and again ["W - Well... I guess that you can keep up... "However, the deaths of those fortunate ones still cause panic among the populace. All who see the arrow of light..."]

The day went on and on with nothing changing except for the sun outside, or the occasional talk or steps heard in the corridor in front of the room that they both sat at. The three of them remained in there, with Violet typing away and not slowing down for even a mere moment as the sun went from one side of the mountains to the other, passing over the sky, and setting in the distant horizon that was so far away.

Y/N seemed like an immovable statue, merely glancing at the ceiling while never ceasing his thoughts about that mysterious, tall figure that he had seen before. Though he remained there, unmoving, Leon was still careful with him, for reasons that aren't too hard to understand, especially not when the man you're facing is a former soldier from Krieg, of all places. It's like having a demon itself sit in front of you.

Like one of Lucifer's own enforcers sat in the chair in front of you, glaring at your eyes at all times. Awaiting for a mere opportunity to drag you down to the worms that eat and who will not die, the fire that burns and that will not be quenched, and the loathsome to all mankind. As if, in the first opportunity that you gave him, you'd be done for, and you could kiss everything you've ever done one last final goodbye.

Leon: ["Ugh... Let's call it a day"]

Violet: ["144, sir. You are an exemplary scribble"] Violet spoke, catching Leon's surprise, glancing down at a mount of papers in her hand ["We completed about three days worth of work in these past few hours"]

Leon: ["Oh, really..."]

Leon glanced away from Violet, dismissing her comment as if it was nothing, though anyone could see that he was clearly shaken and taken back by it. It didn't take too long for Leon to stand up, which prompted both former-soldiers to do the exact same thing. Gently taking Violet's briefcase into the table and opening it, Violet stored her typewriter away, closing the briefcase while Y/N took her blue coat into his hands.

Leon glanced at the two of them as he was about to leave the room, with a hand holding his sore and aching throat. He'd turn to face them both, seeing Y/N hold up the cloak as Violet slid her arms into the sleeves, fixing the piece of clothing on herself right after. In the meantime, Y/N buttoned up the cloak for her, from the first button all the way down to the last one, gently tucking Violet's hair into the collar.

After that, it didn't take too long for the three of them to walk back to the main saloon where they had first met all these hours ago. Stepping into the place, the three of them would note that everybody was already there, awaiting. Seeming to be the last ones to arrive, they all took their places, with Y/N glancing around the room, soon spotting the other soldier that he had thought about all throughout the entire day.

Le Vierre: ["You all have done great work today! We even have a pair who have made three days' worth of progress already"] The older man spoke, gently turning to face graph that showed the progress of all groups, where one stood clearly larger than the rest ["Please keep the excellent work for the remainder of the job, everyone!"]

It didn't take long for everyone to walk away in the next month, with Y/N and that tall man exchanging glances among each other before walking away in their respective pairs with their respective companions. Side-by-side, Violet walked away from the place, soon finding themselves standing somewhere under the starry sky, glancing up at the various glows of the endless stars that came and went out of the vision.

Y/N: ["Say, Ms. Evergarden, are you alright after all the work you did today?"]

Y/N asked, gently leaning on one of the various arches that formed a window with no glass to the outside world. Violet stood by his side, gently looking forward at him, as the man, who was now sitting, stood at eye-level with her. Her vision going past him, Violet would glance at the moon that stood bright in the distance, and would remain quiet for a few seconds. Not much later, her mouth opened, and she began to speak.

Violet: ["It isn't all that exhausting when compared to the travel. It is our job as Dolls to go anywhere, any time a client calls for us, right?"] Violet spoke with her expressionless face, glancing away from Y/N who continued to look at her ["Most of our years are spent on all kinds of travel, suitcase in hand"]

Y/N: ["Excuse me if the question is personal, Ms. Violet, but..."]

Y/N gently took Violet's hands in his own, glancing at them as they stood exposed without her gloves. Neither of them could feel anything on their palms, save for Y/N on spots that were few and far-between while most of his palm and hand was nothing but dead skin. Gently running his burnt thumbs through the back of the girl's hand, he would glance at her with his eyes seeming to shine in the moon alongside Violet's.

Y/N: ["Why is it that you still keep up with such a harsh job?"]

Violet: ["... My secondary reason it's it is a role I can fulfill. At first I thought of it as a mission, But..."] Violet soon turned to look down at Y/N's hand, gently turning her own hands up so that they palms met ["Now I believe that this work, whether it means expression the feelings and desires of our clients, or even taking in and transcribing the thoughts of authors from days long past..."] Gently closing her hands around Y/N's, Violet glanced at the boy with her soft expression never changing ["Is, in these and many other ways, a very special and wonderful thing... I ask myself..."] Violet faced past Y/N, once again staring up at the moon that stood shining proudly in the sky ["Am I really fit for such a wonderful position?"]

Y/N: ["... I wouldn't want to have anyone else by my side"]

Slowly reaching his arms forward, Y/N wrapped them around Violet, who gently stepped into the hug. Laying her head down against his shoulder, closing her eyes a little bit. Her arms also snaked around Y/N, her palms gently pressing against his back as she brought his chest against hers. His head laying to the side, on top of Violet's Y/N's eyes closed, and he let out a small exhale, as if he was extremely tired.

Violet: ["I also wouldn't want to travel with anyone else..."]

◁━━━━━━━━◈ - - - ◈━━━━━━━━▷

Violet: ["... What are you trying to say?"]

His eyes remained serious, and locked, as if he was really getting ready to rip the man in front of him. Hours had passed ever since he and Violet stood on that window under the night skies, now, they were back in the main lobby of the building. The thousands and thousands of books decorating the shelves with the beautiful white marble that covered the building all around reflecting the glorious shine of the sun.

Y/N and Violet remained side-by-side, with the taller of the duo crossing his arms. Unbeknownst to them, on the second floor, and right above them, Leon ran his hands through the various books of the place, as if he was looking for a specific one. However, his eyes snapped open once he heard the voice of the two Dolls he met the day before, as well as the voice of another mature man that spoke mockingly.

Man: ["We feel sorry for you having Leon as a partner"] One of the other researches of the observatory replied ["He has a real annoying personality, doesn't he?"]

Man 2: ["He's just an orphan who couldn't even work here if not for Shaher's donation funds"] The other man spoke, his arms also crossed as he shrugged, causing Leon, on the second floor, to clench his fists ["A lovely girl like you are wasted on him. Come with us when you're done with work"]

Violet: ["I'm an orphan too, and I haven't lived the kind of proper life you speak of"] Violet spoke with her tone being as calm and serene as usual ["I only learned how to read and write in the past few years too, when Y/N taught me"]

On the second floor, Leon's head dropped in a mixture of anger and dejection. His fists clenched even harder than before as he stared at the floor, his eyes trembling much like his shaking fists. Violet's expression left both men stunned, something that was made worse thanks to the Kriegsman in the group stepping forward, with his arms still crossed, glaring at both men that, albeit older, were just as tall as him.

Y/N: ["If one's birth and upbringing places a restriction on who they can speak to, then I still command a Death Korps squad"] Y/N's ragged, deep voice spoke once more as his eyes passed from one of the man to the other one ["And I also believe that means you two should stay away from us both..."]

Man: ["Well, it is different for you both, you know?"]

Man (2): ["Yeah, I mean, his mother-""]

Violet: ["Neither of us know what our parents even look like"]

Violet's words made Leon stop dead in his tracks just as he was going to walk away. His eyes snapping open once more with a quite loud gasp escaping from his mouth, he slowly turned around to look over the railings. Back on the first floor, Y/N's eyes narrowed even further as the two men in front of him looked with a mixture of confusion and frustration, mostly thanks to how they found both Dolls stubborn.

Man: ["Y - You're sticking up to him because you're his partner!"] The man on the front spoke up with some sweat running down his face ["... Ri - Right...?"]

Y/N: ["... No"]

Violet: ["I am merely stating the facts"]

Man (2): ["D - Dude, let's just go already..."] The younger of the duo spoke, tapping his partner's shoulder ["We really can't get through these two, I think we-"]

???: ["I would've executed you at this point"]

Y/N looked past them both to find that same mysterious figure. The much taller man who seemed like a Chapter Master compared to a child, glaring down at everyone. That black-haired man that Y/N once met so long ago on the train, almost looked exactly like this exact person. The features were strikingly similar, namely the scars, dog tags, and the fact that this man serves, or at least served, with the military.

Only this close that Y/N could notice it, and when he did, his eyes went slightly-wide and his mouth opened as if he wished to say something, but couldn't. On the man's shoulders were two pads made out of metal on each side. On the top stood the number 920th, and on the pad below was a golden patch with an I crossing a C. He stood there, glaring down at them both with a look similar to that of Y/N'S.

???: ["Bothering a bunch of children, what a pathetic display..."]

Up close, Y/N could now see more clearly the features of the man. His short, spiky hair that was brown in color, and his fair skin. He wore a simple black-colored shirt that had no particular design. Save for his camo pants and red-colored belt, there wasn't much that would stand up from the man's attire, but the same couldn't be said about his body features. Starting with his height, that seemed unnaturally gigantic.

His arms were as muscular as it could get, and his build was so athletic that one could say this man was but in his mid or late 20's. Y/N, however, knew much better than that, and noting the man's scars, present on his arms, and also on his face, with one of them crossing his nose, one on the cheek, a cut right above his eyebrow, and another injury on the other cheek, Y/N could tell this man fought many battles.

???: ["Why don't you come over here and bother me instead, huh?"]

Just as the two men that were bothering Y/N and Violet turned around, they were met with this behemoth who stood glaring over them like a predator eyeing its next meal. His glare remained the same, never once changing, or him even blinking for that matter. All that he did was remain there, looking down at them as if he was ready to rip their spine out of their mouth with nothing but his bare hands, and a lot of rage.

The two workers of the observatory glanced at each other for a moment before they simply turned on their heels and ran away past Y/N and Violet. The blonde girl turned to see them dash away while all Y/N did was remain staring up at the man, who's eyes slowly turned to face him. His expression dropped, seeming to contain no emotion as his eyes met Y/N's, who, for an instant, had all of those memories brought back.

Y/N: ["Officer, sir!"]

Violet turned to the side, stunned on seeing Y/N's feet collide with one another, and his posture shot up straight, much like his arm. It was raised perfectly in a single instant, with his hand to his forehead, perfectly aiming his palm down, and an arm behind his back, Y/N's expression turned into a fierce one, unlike the man who merely sighed, and slowly reached forward, pushing Y/N's hand down to the side of his body.

Penn: ["At ease, kid. I'm not an Officer anymore, I retired a decade ago"] The man sighed, slowly glancing down at him ["Designation's 5.535, but you can call me Penn Penta, or just Penn, whatever floats your boat"] The man looked down at him, and his expression slowly turned into a small smile ["Can't say I've ever expected to run into another Kriegsman... You're the guy who led the siege against Squad Leviathan, right?"]

Y/N: ["Yes, sir. If memory serves me right, you were the one who fought off against the Death Guard"] Y/N commented, keeping both arms behind his back and glancing up at the man ["I remember your efforts being cheered on throughout all of Krieg, sir"]

Penn: ["That was well-over two decades ago, kiddo... I'm not that sort of man anymore"] Penn's expressionless face returned just as a set of quick footsteps followed ["I'm now a husband, and a soon-to-be father..."] Bluebell stood in the distance, and one could hear her calling out for Penn, who turned to face her, before he turned around to look down at Y/N one more time ["Krieg, the war, the Imperium... I left all of it in the past. You should too"] Reaching his closed fist forward, Penn's knuckles met Y/N's, who gently fist-bumped him ["We should talk some more. Hope we can meet again soon"]

And so, without another word, the man walked away, leaving behind Y/N who remained as stunned as he was throughout their short conversation. Glancing at Penn who walked back to Bluebell who instantly brought the man into a tight hug, prompting Y/N to slowly drop both arms to his sides, oblivious to the sounds of footsteps walking down a letter and dropping to the ground not far away.

Violet: ["Sir, did you find the book that you were looking for?"]

Leon: ["... Yeah"]

Hearing the voice of both Violet and Leon made Y/N snap out of his trance-like state, and glance back towards Leon. He carried with him one of the hundreds-of-thousands books of the observatory's library, right under his arm. Shaking his head a bi, and instantly returning back to his usual emotionless glare, Y/N faced the young boy who shared a glance between them both, soon dropping his head and his eyes once again.

Y/N: ["Are you upset with something?"]

Leon: ["... Tsc! I'm not upset!"] He dismissed, glancing away for a moment ["This is just how I look"]

Violet: ["Should we get back to work, then?"] She questioned, her voice sounding as soft as it usually was ["It'll be lunchtime soon, so we might need to get some work done"]

Leon glanced at Violet, and then up at Y/N, noticing how they looked, and how their glares were so different, yet so similar. Leon figured that Y/N didn't look actually angered, but rather, just his lack of any sort of expression seeming to convey the look of hatred in his eyes. Now that he looked closer, and heard that surprise on Y/N's voice when dealing with the Kriegsman of a former higher-rank, it sounded... Weird.

At the same time that it was so different from Violet's soft, doll-like expression, when looking at them both, Leon could just see their differences reflected on their appearances, and nothing else. He slowly turned around with a sigh, remembering how the two in front of him looked so human, yet so far from one as well. Instead of pondering on it any further, he pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind.

Leon: ["... Yeah ..."]

◁━━━━━━━━◈ - - - ◈━━━━━━━━▷

Violet: ["Is everything alright? You seem... Saddened"]

Violet asked with her voice sounding no different than the blank tone it had. A complete contrast to the scenario around them both, Y/N stuck out like a sore thumb that had been bitten off. Hell, he looked as out of place as an Alpha Legion member in the middle of an Ultramarine chapter. It was like seeing a Black Templar screaming profanities about The Emperor. Or a Kriegsman that wasn't in the middle of a war!

... Oh wait ...

The two of them standing there by themselves, far away from anyone inside the observatory. The lunchroom, or the training room where Y/N had seen some people throwing around others, Judo, he had figured, Violet would glance up at the taller man. He sighed, allowing his hair to gently sway with the breeze that washed over him, the cold rays of the sun doing little-to-nothing to warm what skin he had left.

Y/N: ["I'm... Just thinking about what Officer Penn said, is all"] Y/N replied, glancing at Violet for a moment ["Abandoning war, Krieg... It sounds so... Strange"]

Violet: ["I imagine it is because you lived your entire life knowing only that, war"] Violet replied, which earned herself a silent but affirming nod from Y/N ["... I feel the same. Everything is so strange and unique to me. It's so strange to have other smells rather than..."]

Y/N: ["Gunpowder and dry blood on your hair? Yeah..."] Y/N remained glancing away, soon closing his eyes once more ["It's why I tend to avoid strong smells. They can sometimes be... Too overpowering"]

Violet: ["Such as the smell of the coffee and breakfast they make here?"] Once more, the Kriegsman's reply came with a silent shake of his head ["Is this why you wished to sit away from the lunchroom?"]

Y/N: ["And I also because when we're eating our guard is so low, it's harder to react to enemies... Which I know there are none here, but..."] Y/N just sighed once again, dropping his head into his open palms and remaining silent for a moment ["The thought of abandoning the only reason why I lived for is so weird. Knowing that this feeling which makes me feel so... Weak and defenseless, it may never go away"]

Violet: ["But you are not defenseless... I am here"]

Violet's words prompted Y/N to gently raise his head and to look at her as the girl looked up at him. Slowly setting her basket of food aside, she gently scooted over near the Kriegsman, and raised her two arms. Slowly inching forward, Y/N laid his chest against the girl's, wrapping his arms around her back just as she wrapped her own arms around his neck. Gently laying her head against the taller boy's shoulder.

Y/N: ["... Violet, would you like to stay here for a few more days?"] Y/N asked out of nowhere, gently pulling back from the hug ["The Alley's Comet, I mean. Something that happens once every two hundred years..."] Y/N gently glanced down at the girl, who remained quiet for a moment ["Something that we may never see in our lifetime... I think it may be quite a beautiful display"]

Violet: ["I would love to... But..."]

Violet's gentle gaze made Y/N's own drop ever-so-slightly thanks to how soft her expressions were, and how unique were her eyes. Y/N still wasn't use to it, that beautiful, vibrant and live color that was the complete opposite of the palette of grey, yellow and orange he was used to seeing. It was like he saw nothing but black his entire life, and now, he was face-to-face with a blaze that ignited out of nowhere.

Seeing that deep blue which reminded him of the sea, but not the one where the skies were grey, he had to jump from boat to boat, cutting and shooting anything in his path. It reminded him of their travels, how Violet's palm would feel soft against his face, and make him forget, even if just for a moment, that there wasn't going to be anyone in there that would attack them. For a moment, he could feel at peace.

Not even standing around Primarchs made him feel so safe.

Y/N fought alongside them before, but even in the middle of a war with one of those demi-gods around his side he couldn't feel as calm. And now, with one of Violet's hand clutching his own, and her other palm gently placed against his face, prompting him to gently drop his face a bit more onto it, glancing down at her face, it all made him feel so at peace. A feeling that erupted so out of nowhere, deep within his chest.

Violet: ["Only if I have you by my side..."]

[𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐀 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄 - 𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐘'𝐒 𝐁𝐀𝐑]

Penn: ["Say, kid, do you drink?"]

Penn glanced around the place alongside Y/N, who also took a moment to analyze the bar which he found himself at. Calmly looking around, he could note the various figures of many patrons, from all classes. The men who worked on the mines, with their faces darkened by the coal and dust, as well as the dust and dirt falling from their hairs and beards, but they didn't seem bothered, no one did. It was the opposite.

The men stood laughing and tapping their beer cups together, even though, to the side, stood a completely-different group. Men and women, men and men, and women and women, all dressed in their expensive dresses that Y/N would cost about as the entire place. With their expensive wines and cocktails, with their gentle laughs that seemed weak when compared to the miners' guttural laughs and loud howls.

Y/N: ["Sometimes. It's been a few months since my last sip of alcohol"]

Penn: ["Good. Means that I don't gotta worry about you just listening"]

Penn walked alongside Y/N, the two of them stopping by a table in the far end of the room. Penn pulled a chair for the young boy who allowed himself to sit, and take one more glance around the place. He'd noticed all the stares that he and Penn had gotten ever since they stopped at the door, but it didn't seem to bother him, not even Penn. To the tallre man, it was like these states never even existed to begin with.

Y/N noted how Penn's walk seemed so confident and uncaring that it was like he was a Primarch. Such confidence, way of walking and glare, at least, were just like the one Primarch Y/N met during his life oh so many years ago. His name now long forgotten by the Kriegsman, who found himself face-to-face with yet another soldier that came from the same hell-hole and god-forgotten kingdom that he had hailed from.

Y/N: ["But I fear that I never had a taste of proper alcohol"]

Penn: ["That is to be expected. You gotta learn how to order proper alcohol to receive it, anyways"] The man said with a shrug as a waiter approached them both, clearly nervous ["Whiskey, on the rocks. Touch of bitter, and an orange garnish"] With a quick nod, the waiter walked away.

Y/N: ["Sir, if you do not mind me asking, I would like to ask a question"]

Penn: ["Well, no problem, kid... What's on your mind?"]

Y/N: ["You are quite the famous soldier in the Death Korps, a lot of us have heard of your feats"] Y/N started, his tone slowly getting lower, raspy, and his eyes narrowing in suspicion ["But... You didn't retire, did you? Your status in our troops don't say that"]

Penn: ["They say I was killed in action"]

The man replied while lighting himself a cigarette. Calmly bringing it to his lips and taking a drag out of it before exhaling the smoke. It didn't take too long after that for the waiter to quickly drop by and place their orders on the table, prompting Penn to take his drink into his hand, and bring it to his mouth while holding his cigarette between his index and middle finger, taking a long sip out of his whiskey.

Penn: ["Truth is, I ran away after the fight. I was the only one remaining..."] Penn said, wiping his mouth with his wrist ["There was nothing, no one, not a living thing in sight... So I ran. I ran like never before"]

Y/N: ["You were an Officer, sir. You were the highest-ranking, and are considered a hero, you even fought side-by-side with the Ultramarines"] Y/N replied, not sounding curious, or angry. In fact, he didn't sound like anything, his voice was blank, expressionless ["Roboute Guilliman himself gave you praise from what I hear. You were treated as a hero for holding so long"]

Penn: ["Fuck Rowboat Girlyman. And, you know-"]

???: ["Perhaps there is other things to life rather than war"]

The familiar voice sent shivers down Y/N's spine as he held his breath. His eyes shooting open and his mouth agape, he would slowly turn around to be met with a waistline. Slowly traveling his eyes upwards, they met the man's dark face, the countless scars throughout his face and the large smirk on his face. His dark-colored hair gently falling on one of his eyes, with the same attire that he wore when they met.

???: ["You know, such as love, or alcoholism!"]

His gigantic size that could even reach the roof of the place was enough to garther attention. Pulling himself a chair as he sat down, clearly being much taller than the sort of person that the chair could hold, the man kicked back and threw both legs on top of the table. Taking a long swing from the bottle of whiskey that he held in his hand. Noticing Y/N's expression, Penn glanced at the man, and then to the boy.

Penn: ["You know him?"]

Lion: ["You can call me Lion. It's how most people called me, other than "Wolf Soldier", but that's an old nickname"] Lion waved his hand in a dismissive manner as he would shoot Penn a smirk ["What's the problem? We're three retired soldiers drinking together, are we not?"]

Y/N: ["... We met years ago when I first began to work with the Lamenters Chapter of Marines, I met him in my travels"] Y/N explained, still looking starstruck as Lion brought to his lips one of those strong cigarettes Y/N tasted so long ago ["It's been quite a while. And yet, you haven't changed one bit... Aside from a few new scars"]

Lion: ["These babies right here? Hah! You bet your FUCKING ass that I got new ones, kiddo"] Lion tapped his own arms, flexing them a bit, looking at it as if he was some sort of work of art ["Ain't it all so pretty? Y'know, most of these are almost a decade old now?"]

Penn: ["Oh, really? Well, then, where are you from?"] Penn asked, taking one more sip of his drink ["Who knows, perhaps we already met in battle before"]

Lion: ["If we had, then you wouldn't remember me because you'd be dead"] The mysterious man laughed, his deep voice echoing through the place ["I retired from wars years ago, I was already tortured enough, don't need new scars from bullets or stab wounds"]

Y/N: ["Are you also a deserter?"]

Lion: ["Eh? Watch your mouth, enfant! I never abandon others!"] He said with an annoyed tone, which soon dropped to one of sorrow ["If anything... Others who tend to abandon me... Bah! Who cares!"] He swung the bottle up, drinking all of it in a single, quick go ["We're here to drink and have a good time, are we not! So fuck that sorrow bullshit!"]

Penn: ["Ah, I see, you're quite drunk already. How interesting, I figured that for such a tall figure, it would take more to make you drunk"] Penn hummed, tapping his jaw for a moment in thought before looking up at Lion ["Well, what of it, then? Why is it that you're here, Mr. "Lion"]

Lion: ["Simple, my friend, simple. I'm just a man on his 30's who's got nothing better to do"] He laughed loudly, soon smirking towards Y/N and Penn with a large, cocky grin ["And, y'know, it would take three times this bar with three times as strong alcohol to get me even tipsy!"]

Y/N: ["If you were one of my soldiers, I probably would've shot you already"] Y/N commented, taking a sip from his drink, and humming ["If anything, I doubt there is a reason why we were all brought to this place together"]

Lion: ["Tell me, fils... Do you believe in Destiny?"]

Y/N froze at the man's words. His smirk, his eyes and how they seemed to glow with their distinctive color of red on one side, and green on the other. The fact that he seemed so smug, like he was some sort of deity that could speak to mortals however he wished. His large smirk which left little to imagination thanks to how wide it was, paired with how he looked between Penn and Y/n, awaiting for the boy's answer.

Y/N: ["No. It implies that I cannot take my history into my own hands, and shape it"]

Lion: ["Ha! I knew it, kiddo, you're a fucking smart one! Hell yeah!"] He smacked his hand into the table with a laugh, which caused the entire place to shake ["Now, what you both say we ditch the boring soldier talk, and drink the night away, eh?"]

Y/N and Penn glanced between each other, and then back at the behemoth of a man who had his arms spread with a bottle on each hand that he took from The Emperor-knows-where. With a shrug, Penn would take one more sip of his whiskey before raising his cup to Lion, who poured him some more. Y/N, glancing down at his glass, would remain still for a moment before he sighed, also raising it slowly.

It didn't take long for them to end up on mad ramblings, laughing so loudly that the voice of others would be overpowered by theirs. With their faces red, Lion and Penn would remain side-by-side, drinking bottles and bottles that they may or may not have forgotten to pay as they stumbled outside. And, to be fair, if you saw two behemoths of men full of scars, and drunk out of their asses, would you charge them? Yeah.

Y/N followed them not much later, feeling drowsy and with his eyes heavy, finding himself to have some problems walking. He knew that he was drunk, and yet, he didn't seem to really mind. His training, so extensive and long ago, seemed to have withered down thanks to how easy he got himself drunk after just a few bottles. With nothing better to do, he just followed the two other soldiers who often almost fell.

And not on their faces, but rather, down the fucking mountain where they were. They stumbled back and forth, and the night seemed to go away as the trio walked around. Soon, they found themselves sitting on one of the many mountains, facing away the distant night and the moon that was slowly peeking through the mountains, sitting together facing the vast ocean that stood to the opposite side of the land.

The silence, which was occasionally broken by Lion or Penn smoking their cigarettes and drinking from their bottles, brought with itself a small breeze. Feeling this cold, Y/N would glance down at his hand, where he picked the Lamenters' Chapter badge. Looking at it, and allowing the memories to flow, he cursed himself for being drunk, and so much more emotional and prone to reactions that he couldn't control.

He would close his eyes and let the memories pour into his mind, fearing that emotions would be the last of his concerns. Y/N's eyes trembled a bit as he clenched his teeth, trying to take his mind away from their smiles, their laughs, and then, their tears and screams. That is, until he felt a powerful, heavy hand on his shoulder. Glancing up, he noted Lion looking down at him, calmly nodding his head.

He didn't have his smirk no longer, and instead, had a serious, and saddened face. Seeing his red-and-green eyes, Y/N could feel nothing but himself. His mouth opened a bit in shock, as if it was like he was looking at a mirror whenever he saw the man's eyes. Tears welled up in his eyes as he turned to face Penn. A single tear rolled down his cheek. He felt his throat closing up. Tears began streaming down his face.

Lion: ["... It reminds you two of a song, doesn't it?"]

Penn: ["I guess... The three of us lost important people after all"]

Y/N: ["... May I...?"]

Nostalgia is often compared to something simpler, or times that are better, but it was the opposite, and at the same time, the same for the three soldiers. Flicking his cigarette away, and exhaling the smoke through his lips, Lion's face dropped into one of thought, and sorrow, as did Penn's once the Kriegsman adult had dropped his bottle. The two of them soon glanced down towards Y/N, who nodded his head.

Sniffling between words, Y/N gained himself a nod from both Penn and Lion, who remained by his side, just glancing into the distance and the emptiness of the ocean, without any sort of expression on their faces. With a shaky exhale, and equally unstable inhale as he took air into his lungs, Y/N wiped some tears from his face. Clearing his throat, ignoring the nausea, Y/N's voice escaped from clogged throat.

Y/N: ["Oh, I bid farewell to the port and the land~♪"]

https://youtu.be/WVkD4lgXTEU

Lion: ["And I paddle away to brave Enciel's white sands~♪"]

Penn: ["To search for my long ago-forgotten friends~♪"]

Y/N / Penn / Lion: ["To search for the place I hear all sailors end~♪"]

Their minds were all but gone at this point, all of them focused on nothing but the song, and worse of all, the memories. How much it stung, and how much they wished they didn't have to go through it, but should, at least, follow on. Constantly asking themselves if the living people around them would mourn their departure much like they are mourning theirs. This is not what their friends, long gone or not, would want.

Lion: ["As the souls of the dead fill the space of my mind~♪"]

Y/N: ["I'll search without sleeping 'til peace I can find~♪"]

Penn: ["I fear not the weather, I fear not the sea~♪"]

Lion: ["I remember the fallen, do they think of me~?"]

Y/N / Penn / Lion: ["When their bones in the ocean forever will be~"]

Though unfamiliar with one another, these three shared the same aches and hurtful memories. The bittersweet memories of their smirks, whoever they were, back when they were still around, or when times were simpler, and different. The memories that plagued their minds, and aching memories that will never forget, no matter where. Something that they shared, even if they were strangers until a while ago.

Y/N: ["Plot a course to the night to a place I once knew~♪"]

Penn: ["To a place where my hope died along with my crew~♪"]

Lion: ["So I swallow my grief and face life's final test~♪"]

Y/N / Penn / Lion: ["To find promise of peace and the solace of rest~♪"]

Y/N remembered that same warmth on his chest that he felt oh so long and that he had nearly-forgotten. The white marble that was almost as shiny as their teeth, or how the fire by the fireplace was as warm as their welcoming smiles, and their wide grins. How they welcomed him with wide arms, and how their stares felt different, completely opposite to what Y/N was used to seeing and feeling from others.

Penn: ["As the songs of the dead fill the space of my ears~♪"]

Lion: ["Their laughter like children, their beckoning cheers~♪"]

Y/N: ["My heart longs to join them, sing songs of the sea~♪"]

Penn: ["I remember the fallen, do they think of me~?"]

Y/N / Penn / Lion: ["When their bones in the ocean forever will be~♪"]

Her light-wine colored hair with equally-tinged eyes made his heart hurt. Her large smile and her glasses brought memories that he wished to forget but, as much as he tried, Lion could never forget her smile. So long used to people stabbing him, kicking him, leaving him, only to have someone show him all the kindness in the world, and again, disappear. Though not the last one, she was the one that hurt the most.

Y/N ["As the souls of the dead fill the space of my eyes~♪"]

Lion: ["And my boat listed over and tried to capsize~♪"]

Penn: ["I'm this far from drowning, this far from the sea~♪"]

Y/N: ["I remember the living, do they think of me~?"]

Y/N / Penn / Lion: ["When my bones in the ocean forever will be~♪"]

Remembering their eyes staring at him as the life vanished from their eyes made a tear escape from Penn's eye. Remembering how he ran, and ran, never to be seen again, and how he left them all behind, claiming to be a hero when he was, in fact, little more than a coward that took all the credit, and abandoning his friends and fellow soldiers to die. Someone who never deserved all of the glory and status.

Y/N: ["Now that I'm staring down at the darkest abyss...~♪"]

Lion: ["I'm not sure what I want, but I don't think it's this~♪"]

Penn: ["As my comrades call to stand fast and forge on~♪"]

Y/N: / Penn / Lion: ["I make sail for the dawn 'til the darkness has gone~♪"]

To these men, it really didn't matter. Have they met twenty minutes ago? Two hours ago? Two decades ago? They couldn't care less, as their minds remained blank, singing along to the melody that made all three of them share tears that escaped from their eyes. All facing forward with their saddened, and sorrow-filled expressions. The ache in their chest, and forcing their mouths to sing even with their clogged throats.

Y/N: ["As the souls of the dead live for'er in my mind~♪"]

Penn: ["As I live all the years that they left me behind~♪"]

Lion: ["I'll stay on the shore but still gaze at the sea~♪"]

Penn: ["I remember the fallen and they think of me~♪"]

Y/N / Penn / Lion: ["For our souls in the ocean together will be~♪"]

Forcing their voices to sing out loud in respect, anger, and sadness, all of it for their fallen comrades, who each other didn't know who was, all of them, singing along. A common pain, and a guilt that brought these three together. They were so different, and yet, so similar, that it looked almost like a trio of older brothers taking care of the youngest one. And slowly, the three of them glanced up at the moon that was rising.

Lion / Penn: ["I remember the fallen and they think of me~♪"]

Y/N: ["For our souls in the ocean together will be~♪"]

Y/N: ["Here, Ms. Violet... Take it"]

Y/N calmly put down his coat around Violet's body to cover her, even though she already had her dark-blue coat covering her body. She glanced up at him, and gently tugged on the Kriegsman's trench coat, pulling it closer to herself as Y/N gently sat at her side, glancing up at the starry skies, but focusing on the brightest of them all, with a purely-white-glowing middle, and a light-blue tail that was also glowing around.

At the moment, during the night, they both stood staring at the skies while the other workers of the observatory stood glancing from the inside. Just the two of them, sitting there on the edge of the roof to look up, with the gentle breeze that shook Y/N's hair, as well as his trench coat around Violet's body, who hugged herself and the trenchcoat as if she was wrapped around a comfy, fluffy, black-colored blanket.

Looking up, she was met with the sight of Y/N, wearing nothing but his black tank-top, and no signs of his medals, gently offering to her a cup full of soup. Gently taking it on her hands, even if it was not, it's not like she could feel it. It's also why Y/N just kinda took it into his hands like that, it's not like it would end up with him burnt worse than he already has been anyways. And so, he gently sat down at Violet's side.

Y/N: ["... It's beautiful, isn't it?"]

Violet: ["Indeed it is... It brings back memories, no?"]

Y/N: ["Not very pleasant ones, I fear"]

The many stars brought him back to that day, the way that the fierce-red parted the skies followed by the orange and what came next. The little that remained of his skin felt shivers run through it, as did his spine while he clenched his fists shut. The way that the fire burned around him, his hurried steps and the sweat that ran down his body. His eyes remained blank, never showing any sort of emotion even now.

However, it all washed away like sand in the ocean when Y/N felt a gentle hand on top of what little skin that his hand had left. Slowly glancing to the side thanks to the cold metal wrapping around his hand, he would be met with Violet looking up to him. Her wide, blue-colored eyes meeting with his narrowed, emotionless ones. Gently, the girl scooted over, raising her arm, and wrapping part of his trenchcoat around his body.

Violet: ["It reminds me of something else, though"]

Y/N: ["I thought that you had long forgotten about that..."]

Violet: ["I could never. Not even if I wanted to"]

Y/N glanced up at the skies one more time. This time around, the various stars reminded him of something else completely. The shock on the eyes of the soldiers when the Death Korps marched into the scene, Y/N keeping both hands in his back as he approached Gilbert, glaring at his eyes with the dead, empty looks of his gas mask. On that same night, where, on Y/N's side, stood nothing but smoke and death behind.

By the older man's side, the young girl stood, looking up at the Commissar who shot her a glance. The same stars that shined on that night, very likely the same ones that were blessing them with their light now. The same night that their eyes, even if Y/N's were hidden, made contact for the time, and the first time that they met. It prompted Y/N to sigh, gently squeezing Violet's hand into his own, glancing up at the skies still.

Violet: ["Are you thinking of something, Dr?"]

Y/N: ["I always think of too many things, Ms. Violet..."]

Violet: ["Are you thinking of good things, or bad things?"]

Y/N's eyes gently trailed down back to the dirt that stood so far away back in the mountains. The breeze seeming to increase, the boy reached for the pockets of his pants, gently taking something into his hand, and bringing it out. Slowly unwrapping his fingers from it, as if he was denying himself from seeing the medal, his eyes continued to glance away from the soft metal that he could barely feel in his palms.

He thought about them. About everyone, and their smiles, how they welcomed him with wide, caring smirks and open arms. The painful feeling arising from the center of his chest and making its way to his throat, which was forced to make a gagging sound. It took Violet's attention. Feeling the stinging, wet sensation, he couldn't feel the tears down his face after they began to fall, but he knew that they were there.

Y/N: ["A bad thing that came for a good thing"]

Violet: ["... Would you perhaps like to talk about it?"]

Y/N: ["I would rather if we didn't do that"]

Y/N's minds wandered back to those two older men that he drank with. Penn, and the other mysterious figure who never gave himself a name. But it was impossible to forget him. His massive height, and his build that seemed like he could punch an entire mountain out of existence, or crush rocks with his bare hands. The smirk that he had, alongside all sorts of scars that went from his fingertips up to his very face.

He remembered their voices, the three of them, facing the sea barely half an hour before Y/N found himself in this place. The tears still falling from his eyes, Y/N would raise his other hand, and gently clean them with his knuckles while also clutching the medal tightly in his hand. Still refusing to look at it, Y/N took a deep breath before slowly glancing at his palm, running his thumper over the bleeding metal heart.

Y/N: ["Violet... May I ask you a question?"]

Violet: ["You can ask me anything, sir. You know that"]

Y/N: ["Yesterday night you told me the second reason why you're in this job..."]

Before Y/N could finish his question, Violet hummed and her eyes continued to look up. Glancing down at her, Y/N noted her eyes, and how they were softly shaking. The gentle tremble in them as Violet seemed to ponder his question. There, under the gentle light of the moon, Y/N noted how the sky was reflected on Violet's eyes, so much so that it seemed like he was staring up at the star rather than down at her eyes.

Y/N felt Violet squeezing his hand a bit together, the soft, and far-in-between tissues of skin that remained were gently aching, but nothing that could truly hurt him. Y/N could see it in her eyes how, for a moment, she seemed scared, as if Y/N was going to disappear, poof right out of existence. Or worse yet, one day, walk away and they'd never see each other ever again. As if he was going to, one day, abandon her.

Violet: ["You're the first reason, Y/N..."]

Y/N: ["And... Why me?"]

Violet: ["You're important to me..."]

Violet's head gently dropped against his shoulder, with Y/N's eyes mimicking her movements, and also moving down to stare at their hands together. Slowly laying his head to the side, he laid it on top of Violet's head, and gently closed his eyes. Though the breeze was cold, it couldn't match the warmth of their bodies, as well as Y/N's trench coat that was covering them both. But as Y/N closed his eyes, the only thing he could hear was Violet's soft breathing, which caused his eyes to slowly feel heavy.

Y/N's arm slowly wrapped around Violet after he calmly released the grip that her hand had on his. Bringing the two of them ever-so-close to one another, and allowing the night of the moon to shine upon them both. Slowly, Violet's eyes also closed, and the only thing that she could hear was Y/N's breathing. It was calm, slow, and peaceful, a complete contrast of when she looked in his eyes, or heard his voice.

Y/N: ["You're important to me as well, Violet..."]

Violet: ["And why is that?"]

Y/N: ["... Because you see me more than a just soldier behind the mask"]

Violet's eyes opened in a slow, and calming manner, as she glanced up towards the moon once more. Noticing how the comet parted the skies, she would slowly nudge Y/N with her head, prompting the boy to also open his eyes, and stare up. There, he saw something other than just the hundreds of beautiful stars. The comet's tail became larger, as did the pure bright-colored white that was inside of its body.

Slowly, Y/N stood up and walked a bit to the side, picking up the telescope that laid by their side all this time. He brought it to Violet, who gently took it into her hands, and put her right eye against it, staring up at the comet. Her other eyes seemed to open a bit wide in surprise, as did her mouth. Y/N, glancing up at it with his bare eyes, crouching at Violet's side, let out a small exhale, allowing himself to sit down again.

Violet: ["It's marvelous..."]

Y/N: ["Does it remind you of something, Violet?"]

Violet: ["It reminds me... That parting is not a tragedy"]

Y/N's eyes turned to face her, as the girl gently passed the telescope to Y/N, who, for a moment, looked at the comet. His eyes watering once again as he felt his grip loosen the exact moment that he glanced at the stars. His teeth clenching as did his with his hands to keep the steady grip on the telescope so that it wouldn't fall off of his hands. Instead, he'd continue to hear Violet speak, allowing the memories to flood his mind.

It didn't take long for him to see himself there once again. The white marble covering the walls, and their wide smiles that all spoke of years upon years of hope that were crushed, but never disappeared. How, much like the stars, they were endless, and even if they were to go out, more would appear, again, and again. Seeing it all up there, Y/N couldn't contain the tears from falling, and this time, he wouldn't.

Violet: ["In the fairy kingdom, a land of eternity..."]

Y/N: ["They will be bestowed new vessels..."]

The Kriegsman clutched the medal right against his heart, glancing down at the ground for some more moments before he took a deep breath. Exhaling as he stood up, glancing at the skies, he would feel the breeze move his hair back and forth, and wipe away the tears that were running down his face. His eyes wandering to his palm where he saw the medal of Lamenter Chapter, Y/N wiped the few tears remaining.

He would bring it up to his mouth, curling both hands around the badge, and laying his forehead against his closed fists. His teeth clenching before he would lower both hands, bringing the medal to his chest, putting it against the area of his heart as he would place it there. Running both hands through his face as he looked up, wiping away what little tears he had left, Y/N would feel his lips slowly parting into a smile.

Y/N: ["In which their souls will live on for all of time"]

Le Vierre: ["Thank you all so much! Take care on the way back!"]

Everyone began to walk away, with the Manuscript Department waving back to the Dolls who made their way out. Y/N remained back, watching as Violet walked alongside Bluebell, Luculia and Iberis. There, glancing at them from a small distance, the young Kriegsman would slowly glance up towards the man who had a cigarette lit on his lips. With a tired sigh, Penn ran a hand through his hair with closed eyes.

Y/N would also glance down, this time around, to Penn's ring that stood on his ring finger, then back to Bluebell. When he looked up again, the former Officer was looking down at Y/N, who remained looking up at him. Penn's eyes met Y/N's, which prompted the older Kriegsman to return his vision back to his wife, and the soon-to-be mother. Crossing his arms, Penn would merely nod his head with a small chuckle.

Penn: ["So... I guess this is goodbye, then?"]

Y/N: ["Perhaps just a "until I see you again", I would argue"] Y/N replied, glancing away into the distance still ["We may end up meeting again, perhaps somewhere under a starry sky"]

Penn: ["You know... Last night I learned that the world is actually qutie small. Running into another soldier, and another Kriegsman, too"] Penn let out a small smile, glancing down at Y/N for a moment, and remaining in silence for a few seconds ["It makes me realise that there may be other people like the three of us out there, don't you think?"]

Y/N: ["What do you mean? Like, other Y/N's?"]

Penn: ["Maybe. Other Y/N's, other Penn's, other unknown soldiers who look like they fought a fucking tiger barehanded"] Penn shrugged, closing his eyes and taking a drag from his cigarette before exhaling the smoke through his lips ["All I know is that maybe one day we may end up meeting other people like us"]

Penn followed Y/N's gaze, which had landed on Violet, seeing this, the taller man would let out a small laugh. Glancing at Bluebell, who remained talking with Violet, and a wide smile present on her and Luculia's face as Iberis waved away towards the other members of the Observatory. Y/N's eyes slowly drifted away, this time, back to the workers, where he saw Leon standing quite far away from his coworkers.

As if he felt the man's gaze, Leon turned around, in the distance, facing Y/N who stood not too far behind. With a nod of his head, Y/N gained a nod back from Leon after a few seconds of the boy looking stunned. Soon, Y/N's eyes drifted back to Violet, who, also as if she felt him, would turn around and look at Y/N. Though her gaze was expressionless, it was clear to note that she was quite happy with him.

Penn: ["You should tell her how you feel, kid"]

Y/N: ["I don't know what I feel, or how I feel, let alone how I should tell it to her"] Y/N replied, glancing down towards Violet that stood quite far ["But one day, I promise that I will. For you, me, Lion, and for everyone else"]

Penn: ["Good. Remember kid, the bones in the ocean still sing"] The man tapped Y/N's shoulder, calmly stretching his arms up ["Ugh~... Well, then. I should get going, Bluebell and I still need to go make my new documents"]

Y/N: ["I suppose that you still don't have quite an official name, yet? Weird, now that I think about it, neither do I..."] Y/N hummed in silence as he and Penn walked side-by--side, towards the trio of girls ["Perhaps I should need it for a passport. Intimidation may not work one day"]

Penn: ["As long as you're no longer Designation 9.672, all things work"] The man shrugged, but stopped walking, looking down at Y/N ["Do remember to live your life free, kiddo... No one can pin you down no more. Not even The Emperor"]

Penn walked past Y/N without another word, gently tapping his shoulder as a final goodbye. Walking towards Bluebell who ran towards the man, and tackled him into a hug which didn't even make Penn flinch. Watching as they both held hands and walked away, Y/N would note Iberis walking away from the scene as well, being walked away by the partner in which she was assigned during her time here.

Y/N continued to walk not much later, waving goodbye to Leon who looked at him and Violet with a small smile present on his face. And as he put both hands into his pockets, feeling the other medals, save for the Lamenters' badge that stood on his heart area, Y/N continued to walk, soon being followed by another set of steps. Walking down the various fleets of stairs down the mountain towards the cart.

He opened the small gate first, allowing Violet to walk in before he did. As he entered after her, Y/N closed the door to the cart, and slowly sat while facing the distance. It didn't take too long for the blonde girl to gently lay her head against the boy's shoulder, who glanced down at her. However, the familiar feeling of her hand on his came with the contrary, as he held Violet's hand before she could hold his first.

Violet: ["Are you thinking of something, sir?"]

Y/N: ["I'm always thinking of many things, Violet, but..."]

Y/N's eyes gently dropped as he closed them for a moment. All of the events of the past couple of months flashed before his eyes. So much changed so quickly that it seemed so hard to believe, but at the same time, he had to believe it. After all, he lived through said events, so could he deny them any longer? New ideals were formed, things were accepted, and the past was slowly being left behind by him.

A few moments later, as the cart of the railway began to go down into the distance, a trip that certainly would take hours until they touched ground again, Y/N glanced at Violet, who's eyes slowly traveled up to meet Y/N's. With a gentle gaze in his features, Y/N pulled the girl closer, glancing far into the distance where he would calm his mind after a deep breath-in, and a slow, but calm and gentle exhale through his lips.

Y/N: ["I'm now thinking about us"]

RIGHT BACK AT YA MOTHERFUCKERS!

So, a few things I'd like to address. First is Leon, who you might've been surprised to see not addressed much in this chapter. The reason for that is that in the original series, the work is about Violet learning more and becoming more human, as well as helping others become more human as well. However, this is a fanfiction, so, things ARE bound to change. I mean, if the inclusion of Warhammer 40.000 wasn't enough.

Well, the story as you might've noticed, will now be mostly-focused on Y/N helping Violet become more human while Violet also helps Y/N become more of a human character. We had a lot of reveals this chapter, as well as many other things that were bound and made to surprise you all, such as Penn, or even the man, the myth, the legend, himself. Lion, orrrr, as you might know him by another name and title...

"The Saint's Lion"
Y/N LN

How? Why? Well, that will be explained and explored further in the future. However, why am I doing it here? Well, that is simple. This is, by far, bound to be my least know book for a while, so a lot of people that read Saint's LIon aren't going to read this. The few of you that do read both series now know that something is going on behind the scenes. The others, however? Yeah, they are in for an even bigger surprise.
