┊ ➶ ❁۪ ｡˚ May was born to two second generation korean Americans living in New Orleans. Growing up in the French Quarter, the oldest neighborhood in New Orleans engulfed with myths and voodoo shops, May's childhood fears were the old merchant ladies that stink eyed her on the street and offered her tarot readings. May developed a deep fascination and respect for the occult that she still maintains today. Even since she was little Maybel was clear what she was going to do for a living, she wanted to be singer and a performer. May was so unshakable in her ambitions that at age 14, against her parents wishes she flew to South Korea to train under YG. May trained for six long years, and in 2016 she was put on the lineup for YG's hot new girl group BLACKPINK . A few months before debut though, YG took her out of the lineup because she was, quote " Not pretty enough for Blackpink". After that May decided to leave the company, and became mythical after having a fight with YG on the company's parking lot. YG came to talk her into staying, telling her she was too old for the market and would never be accepted any where else, May responded to this with " What you think is irrelevant "

May has a very controlled image. An unbreakable image, full of strength and coolness. May doesn't really feel comfortable stepping out of this persona she has built for herself. Blessed with a naturally standoffish independent personality ,May is often unintentionally driving people away. Unfortunately because of this, few people end up sticking round long enough to understand May's wholesome sweetness, loyalty and quirky dark humor. May doesn't open up herself that easily as she is scared of caring for people who will hurt her, but for those she does let in May has a lot of warm hugs and snarky remarks.

May is an confident introvert, she doesn't need people company or praise and prides herself in always having inner strength and assuredness . May honestly kind of like a plant, just give her water and let her be in her corner. Unfortunately this causes people often see her as a fountain to dump their problems into, as May's deadpanned face and unsettling quietness make her a great listener. 🍿 -— May dated Winner's Mino for 4 years, they're old friends and only ended the relationship because May joined the survival show. They still talk a lot and still hangout normally

🍿—- May was a very famous trainee while in YG, she was a backup dancer for WINNER, IKON and PSY

🍿— May earned her nickname " Maybelicious " after a predebut video of her dancing to Fergalicious on a trainee showcase went viral.

🍿—- May's only friend was BongCha during the survival show and she's the member she's the closest with. If it wasn't for her friendship with Bongcha ,viewers would never have seen her crackhead antics and teasing nature, so it actually helped her stay on the programme.

🍿— May doesn't regret leaving home sor early, she said that she had been itching to work, train and perform long before she auditioned and she really doesn't see how being a normal highschooler could beat what she thought at the time to be " Korean Voice Hogwarts"
