WHAT THE HARRY POTTER UNIVERSE IS ABOUT

Harry Potter books are set in a magical world, where people can perform magic. The people who can perform magic are wizards and witches, while those who can't are called as Muggles. Muggles don't know wizards and witches exist. Once a wizard/witch turns 11, they go to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The special Hogwarts Express takes them to the school, from the platform 9 and 3/4. The platform lies between platform 9 and platform 10, which can only be accessed by wizards and witches.

The Hogwarts education is of seven years. In their first year, a child is sorted into a house by the Sorting Hat. The four houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Gryffindor has brave, loyal and courageous children, Hufflepuff has the hardworking, dedicated and helpful children, Ravenclaw has the witty, brainy and intelligent children, and Slytherin has the ambitious, cunning and resourceful children.

The sport played is called Quidditch.

There are other wizarding schools too, namely Beauxbatons and Durmstrangs.

Aurors are the dark wizard catchers. They are trained to investigate crimes related to the Dark Arts, and to apprehend or detain dark wizards.

The Ministry of Magic is the government of the Magical community of Britain.

Hogwarts is a boarding school. Different part of the school is for a different purpose. There are separate towers of each house, where the students stay. The dorms for boys and girls are separate in a tower, but they all have a Common Room. There is a Great Hall, which is like the main hall. There are four long tables for each house. This is where everyone has their meals. In the front of the hall there is one table, where all the professors sit.

The Express comes to a halt and all the parents help their children on the train, giving their last blessings, hugs and kisses. The children wave to their families, ready to encounter on another journey to the school, or for some of them, their first journey to the school. The smoke of the train fills the air and the everyone on the platform rushes each other to get on the train.

Y/n y/l/n, a sixth year ravenclaw student of the school gets on the train, seeing her parents wave at her. She smiles and waves back at them, before going in an empty compartment with her brown owl Ozwald. She sighs, slightly slumping in her seat, leaning her head against the window. Her gaze goes out to see the families bidding their children their final goodbyes, before letting them go on the train.

In a few minutes, y/n feels the train move forward. It begins moving slowly, the platform passing by, but then it begins to pick up speed. The platform rushes by, all the families whizzing by in a second. Y/n's eyes suddenly become droopy, and she slowly begins to close them, ready to take a nap before she reaches the school.

But the sound of her compartment door opening allows her to stay up and not even score a single minute of sleep. She looks up to see a boy, maybe her age, looking back at her. He has golden hair and green eyes and seems extremely tall.

"H-hi," he says.

"Hello," y/n greets back, sitting straight in her seat.

"Can I share this compartment with you? The others are filled so..." his voice begins to fade by the end of the statement. To his surpise, y/n nods at him and beckons him to come inside.

"Of course you can!" She chirps, "it was getting kinda lonely here." The boy smiles at her and enters inside with his own owl in a cage. It's a brown one, just like y/n's. "Your owl is so gorgeous," she begins, "what is it's name?"

"Her name's Eerin." The boy replies. "What about your owl?"

"Oh, my owl's name is Ozwald."

"Nice," he says, "oh, I'm Ruel and I'm a sixth year student."

"Hi Ruel, I'm y/n, and I'm a sixth year student too." Y/n lets out her hand, and Ruel clutches onto it softly and shakes their hands. "What house are you in?"

"Hufflepuff," Ruel replies, "what about you?"

Y/n sighs, "Mine's Ravenclaw. I really wished we were in the same houses."

"Me too," Ruel nods at her. "I don't know anyone here and you're the first friend I've made."

"Where are you from?" Y/n questions.

"I began studying in Durmstrangs first, but then my family decided to move me to Hogwarts. My two older sisters studied from here, and my parents thought that it would be better if I studied in Hogwarts too, so here I am." He chuckles, gesturing to himself. Y/n smiles at his gestures.

"You have two sisters?" She asks.

"Yeah, their names are Coco Van Dijk and Sylvie Van Dijk."

"Oh my god, you're a Van Dijk?!" Y/n screams, her eyes widened. Ruel nods at her, a small laugh escaping him.

"Yes I am."

Coco and Sylvie Van Dijk are two of the most important Aurors working at the Ministry of Magic. They both graduated from the school, coming first in their specific years, and then on to becoming aurors. They are the pride of the Hogwarts school, and almost everyone knows about them.

"I am nothing like them though," Ruel begins, looking out the window of their compartment, "they are intelligent witches, and are the best aurors of the Ministry of Magic. While I suck at magic. Everytime, everytime I try something there has to be something wrong happening. Either the potion I'm making is made entirely wrong, or the incantation I'm doing is wrong," He sighs, bringing his hand up to move through his hair, "I don't think I'll be able to live up to their legacy."

"Ruel," y/n begins, "you shouldn't underestimate yourself like that. You must be a great wizard; all you need is a little faith and hope in yourselves. If you ever need any sort of help, I am here. Even though it would have been a lot better if we were in the same houses, then our Common Room would've been the same. But it's okay though, we can meet up in the library and the Great Hall."

Ruel nods at her and both of them exchange glances among themselves, along with soft smiles. Both of them look out the window, watching green fields pass.

"I think I will go and change into my robes," y/n says, getting up. Ruel nods at her and she walks out of the compartment to the washroom on the train. While she is gone, Ruel busies himself with enjoying the view from the window. As he is looking out, he hears a voice.

"Anything from the trolley?"

He looks up to see an old lady rolling a trolley which has lots of food on it. He gets up from his seat and goes to the trolley to buy something to eat. Ruel decides on Chocolate Frogs and Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans. He pays for them and sits back in his seat, but not eating the food items, since he intends to eat them with y/n.

The compartment door opens and y/n comes and sits down in her robes. Her eyes go down to Ruel's hands which hold delicacies in them.

"You bought these?" She asks, motioning to the food items. Ruel nods. He moves his hand forward, and y/n picks up the box of beans and opens it. Her hand goes in the box to pull out a bean, before popping one in her mouth. She scrunches her nose up and her entire face distorts.

"Black pepper," she says, clicking her tongue against her teeth. Ruel giggles at her before pulling out a bean for himself. He puts it in his mouth and enjoys the sweet taste it provides.

"I got candy floss," he says.

"Seriously, I get black pepper and you get candy floss? That's not fair." Y/n crosses her arms in front of her chest and Ruel laughs again. He opens the Chocolate Frogs and hands one to y/n before it can hop away.

"Have this, it's chocolate."

She holds it and begins to eat it, enjoying the taste. Both of them continue having conversations and eating the delicacies, waiting for the train to reach at Hogwarts.

Maybe my first year in this school won't be as bad as I thought, Ruel smiles to himself.
